I use both extensively in my detailing business, but for different applications. TW S&S is tough to beat for general paint protection, especially for the money. It is a goto for production detailing. I reserve Moonlight for trim and tonneau covers, etc. Brian, I recall a while back you responded to a question about a dressing and it seems you said, "only Moonlight does what you are looking for" or something to that effect. That stuck in my head and tried Moonlight on trim and vinyl to my delight. But how long does it last? To keep an eye on a test, after doing a maintenance wash on my neighbor's Grand Cherokee, I used Moonlight on his textured black exterior trim. The wheel arch trim was done on June 14 and now we are four months in, the trim looks the same as it did on June 14, 2020. A water based product would not have lasted until the end of the month, and less if it rained. Moonlight is relatively expensive (especially now having to get it from a Canadian vendor, or via Korea on eBay. The latter being even more costly mostly due to shipping) and I use it on all trim for my higher value jobs. I view Moonlight as the perfect trim dressing between the water-based VRP, Perl, etc and IGL Trim which I use when doing a ceramic coating job. BTW, Gyeon Cancoat approximates Moonlight, but it does not quite have that oily nature of Moonlight, but it does work about as well and is easier to get. The US needs a proper TACSystem distributor. Supposedly, TAC is the originator of ceramic coatings but you would never know it from their PR, or lack thereof. Just ordered two bottles from Canada. There really is no substitute, at least how I use it.
I've been looking for a longer term protectant for my tonneau and I may have just found it. Been loving Perl on it but as you mention, virtually any water based product has limits to its longevity. I certainly didn't mind re-applying Perl once a month (less often if your vehicle is kept inside), as it's pretty cost effective given how much you can dilute it; but I've been sort of on the hunt for something that would last a couple of months. Will definitely keep Perl as my interior go-to product, but I might give Moonlight a go for exterior trim. Ever try it on tires? I assume it would work quite well if it's good on tonneaus but I wonder that being that it's not "designed" for tires it might sling a little perhaps. Or not?
I still have 4 bottles of seal and shine but will purchase moonlight when I need to purchase again. Thanks for the comparison. Love watching your videos!
How can the SS gloss go down? I’ve been using it in my dealerships for the last month and I’ve had more positive comments from the salesman, about how so much glossier the cars look than using the last Scholl SW30 spray wax I was using. Gloss meter needs a calibration I’d say.
Back in the early 2000’s I would use and sometimes still use Turtle Wax Synthetic Liquid Polish. It is in a clear bottle with a blue twist cap and came with a dark grey oval foam applicator. It is ok on the paint and will bead forever. The best application and my main use for me is on black trim. It works and lasts a very long time on faded black trim and side mirrors. It will bring back that deep black and will bead water forever. Then they changed the product and the bottle design and it was terrible for everything. I still have half the bottle left from 2006 and it still does the job very well without being greasy or leaving white residue. I’m going to try Turtle Wax Seal N Shine tomorrow on a white 2016 Toyota RAV4. There is going to be a lot of rain coming so I will also see how it repels dirt and the dirty water streaking from the door handles. I’m thinking the Seal N Shine might be the same product from 2006, just reworked to make the product a bit better. As I watch your videos on the product, it reminded me of experience I had with the older product, especially not being that glossy and when you wet the product it looks kind of oily under the water on the panel. Both very similar. Going to have to see if both products smell similar. Thank You for the video, great as always!
I like TW Seal n Shine I only had some problems with is streaking on my hood. I think it just to too hot that day, I corrected the streaking by applying a thin coat of Collinite 845. I love the look of Collinite the gloss is magnificent.
thanks for cutting to the chase and prepping off camera :) btw, I noticed in the heat test that the reflections of the lines in the ceiling got more distorted with the seal and shine. rewind to 7:47. great review as always !
I love Tac Systems Moonlight! Other than price point, moonlight is my winner. Plus why would I want to apply anything that makes my car less shiny? Especially after all the prep work! Moonlight Vs DPC Shield PLEASE!
Yes the loss of gloss was disturbing for TWS&S. I bought a bottle of TWS&S and now I don't really want to use it! I'm now looking at ceramic coating instead.
@@TheSwitzAutomotive first review I've seen where the gloss went down. I've seen some where they stay the same after a polish. Besides most cant tell the diffrence from the naked eye. But I completely understand your outlook though.
I have not experienced any gloss reduction to the naked eye with Seal and shine. I have used it on different vehicles and gloss in real world seems good. With that said I now use bead maker (it’s a high gloss product) as a drying aid after washing or a topper for Seal and shine and it’s the best of both worlds. Longevity and protection from Seal and shine and a boost in gloss and a drying aid after a wash with bead maker. It’s a heck of a combo.
With all the prep work and care taken it does not make sense to me to not want to improve the look of the paint work. Tac Systems Moonlight is not a expensive product. Moonlight is $45 . For what great results it produces , I do not feel it is very expensive at all!
The trick to Seal and Shine holding up a better shine is the second coat after it cures. I’ve done that and seen the shine and gloss stay the same for months but it definitely needs two coats but Moonlight isn’t to costly considering how little you use.
Enjoying the quick detailer series. First question, how much more glossy is 2 gloss units, objectively? 2nd question, how does 7 rounds of protection translate to real world abuse? Q3, how do you clean a car coated w/one of these if u don't want to spend all day removing tar splatter and bug guts yet you don't want to ruin the coating? Q5, does slickness make removing bug guts easier? Thanks Brian!
Just ordered Moonlight. What good is chemical resistance if It loses gloss? That should have been a -1 for seal and shine. Do a test with a base layer of Seal and Shine and top it with Moonlight or vice versa.
I can’t ignore the cost difference ,but that said for me gloss trumps durability and cost . I have both I use the moonlight for higher end cars and the turtle wax for folks where cost is a determine factor.
So, TW S&S topped with ICE Detail Spray to raise the gloss level...? This video is also a good tutorial for how to absolutely strip sealants and wax off the paint. Least one assume that a simple wipe down with a stripper will get the job done.
MaX83_ZA that’s the way to do it. I really enjoy Bead Maker. Recently, I used the Seal and Shine on the wheels. They get covered with brake dust even after mild street driving. I’ll see if it makes it any easier to clean them up.
I have a question I use multiple mits like you do I thought was great idea when I saw you do it would you wash your drying towels with wash mits all microfiber
Moonlight all day long. I put this on my mother in laws car in October, I live in Aberdeen Scotland, and the other day I had a look at it and it still looks great and it March, it’s not been cleaned since I did the car in October.
I keep likening the tests. Is this the first time gloss value goes down that much for SnS? I don't remember it, going down, just even or slightly up. Thanks for the news about the ET degreaser, give it a few months to see the different uses and applications, maybe let it dry on an old hood in the sun for weeks to see if it damages the paint, or compare it to SC or PP. 😎
In the future, can you maybe shoot the water up and let it land on the panel to simulate actual rain instead of high pressure that aids the water in flying off the panel?
There is no question that I would go for the shine and beading - Moonlight. Why would anyone want to go with a product that dulls the shine when we all clean our cars frequently?
I just started to watch the video, but what are the characteristics of each product when in contact with contaminants do they slide off easy or stay embedded in the paint?
Brian, you mentioned while doing the gloss test on the TW's ICE, that you expected it to drop. I find just the opposite when I apply the TW products, but I could clearly see it on the video when you started working the product, it looked as though it clouded over. Why did you expect that to happen? Also for me, the bottom line for the daily driver is protection and that comes in two forms, the first is how slippery the product is to prevent water drops and contaminants from adhering to the surface as well as the longevity of the product. Good test overall.
So what you saying is, If i want to do some paint correction on some swirls or scratched that has occurred lets say, 2 months after applying Tac sytems, Then I would have to wash it like 20 times before I can get the protection off and then only can I correct? as from what I understand, you need completely clear paintwork to correct?
I've asked this question on several other channels, and it seems I don't ever get an answer, or one that is very helpful. When you get a customer who applies these types of products on a normal basis, how would you tackle removing these products when you are going for a full paint correction? What would you use to remove the protection? I'm looking to get my vehicle paint corrected and I use Seal N Shine and or Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax.
I've probably said this before, but Seal N' Shine has amazing chemical resistance. However, mechanical durability is a different thing. Just staying on the car for time will also affect the protection. Sonax BSD has really good chemical resistance yet only lasts about 2 months on the car in real world conditions, where other products with less chemical resistance last much longer side by side. I wonder how much mechanical durability Seal n' Shine has - how long will it last on the car in real world conditions? I have some and I'm trying it out. It will be a few months I expect.
@@matiusteddyc.856 you would want something that is more resinous - real world coatings with real solids like Can Coat, Synergy Lite etc will have mechanical durability. The spray sealants, even ones that say they are ceramic (but in reality just have a very tiny amount of it) are typically too thin and the bond they create cannot be maintained for long enough to provide long term mechanical durability. It depends on how easy you want the application to be? With any product, the less you wash it, the longer it will last. The act of washing a car, using chemicals and then abrading the paint with wash mitts, weakens the chemical and mechanical durability of products much more than not washing it, particularly if the weather is good and the car isn’t covered with traffic film and road salt. That means, cars that are washed less, to a point, will have their protection last longer as their products mechanical durability will be increased.
That is the video I have been waiting for..Thanks Brian...Awesome video.! You have to give Turtle Wax Company a ton of props for putting out a product of that caliber and in that price range. With Moonlight be a light ceramic 25% si02, do you would think it would perform better than seal and shine (unknown si02 level) on a physical level ie - very light scratches or etchings like a traditional ceramic coating
is there a difference between water repellency and protection .. UV protection v important too. I find it amazing that these spray and rinse products and beat a genuine ceramic ... maybe turtle wax chemist should try with one ? if moon light could say double its durability to 12 months it would be amazing retail product
Brian a very impressive video once again! The durability and gloss readings of the Moonlight is very impressive. However for overall availability, plus the durability Factor, I give the overall final point to TW seal and shine. The overall rating winner for 2019!!! 😎
Brian I didn’t think seal n shine would hold up to moonlight but it did. Impressive! Either would be a good choice with moonlight definitely having more gloss and seal n shine with a slight advantage in protection and a bigger advantage in price.
You seem to get a lower gloss reading from the seal and shine when comparing to competitive products. I get an amazing shine, but my process is a bit different. I soak a microfiber pad with water, ring out enough to eliminate drip, put two squirts of product on the pad, spray a little water on the surface, and apply as usual followed by buffing. I find seal and shine to be a fairly heavy thick material that’s difficult to remove completely through direct buffing. Could your gloss drop be due to incomplete product removal.? My process addresses only shine and final finish. I have no idea how it would effect your extensive durability tests. My concern is for final finish only. Fair enough? Thanks for your great reviews.
Dear sir FANTATIC video again thanks for sharing.........i didnt understand why the TW droped down the gloss in the meter,in the first test?? i thought thta.they only way is to go ...up....!!!!hahhahaha
The use is a gloss meter is a useful, measurable way to compare products; however, I wonder how much of a value change the human eye can see. What I mean is, if product "A" raises the gloss from 90 to 94 GU, is it really noticeable? It is a great way to compare products - nice and measurable, but how much can an eye see? What I notice most is clarity of the paint: smooth and free of defects. Just a though. Great video again!
Can't go with either one. I can get Seal N' Shine at Walmart anytime I want (24/7). I can also work with it directly on the sun, which is important for me. It goes on every square inch of the exterior of my car. I do like the gloss and self-cleaning ability of Moonlight, but it is $50 and I need to order it online.
For about the same longevity, but higher gloss of Moonlight, I'd go for the Moonlight. I could do every car I own and probably a few neighbor's cars with one bottle of moonlight, so the extra cost is not too exorbitant. People mention the 1-2 of S&S topped with Ice Wax. I'm curious how Moonlight would look topped with the crazy gloss of Tac System's Shinee Wax
Should make a video of waxes that can be layered. For example, just the way Jescar sealant can be layers with Collinite . What other great sealants can be layers with a good Carnauba wax??
Thanks for the comparison review. I go for the moonlight with better gloss. That what we want for detailing. Most of us having few wax products. The cost diff is still acceptable. On the protection having consider the mud stain on car paint, the durability could be just the same.
With how little of Tac you use I would say even price is a draw. But I'm a gloss guy so I would go with Tac. I have no problem if I have to reaply a product once a week on my cars, I love the process.
I too would like to try TAC Moonlight for my personal cars and family. But after using the TW Seal & Shine on a nice red car of my friend a few weeks ago, TW is my best bet.
Thanks Brian for this video. Like many people I also was waiting for this type of video. My question to you is what would be the next step up in a ceramic coating that would definitely out last Seal and Shine and have the reflection that Moonlight has? QP 2.0 or something else?
Which product do you think gives better gloss? Moonlight or one step master? I've heard moonlight is more glossy but I've also seen one step master give 100+ gloss units in your video. Which is glossier?
@@justinreneau1983 I've seen Detailers offer Meguiars X-Press spray wax as the wax in thier wash and wax packages. I look at that as a huge lapse in integrity, X-press wax lasts a few days tops. Offer TW S&S, and I'll pay the up charge for a wax, and give them a shot at getting a good Google and Yelp review.
Anyone with a 93-97 camaro is freaking out over your spray bottle haha. Oh and I’ll still stick with seal and shine. After washing the car spray the turtle wax ice spray wax on top of the seal and shine before drying the car. Looks amazing after.
I feel like while TW is obviously a lot cheaper per bottle, you also use a fair bit more per application vs. TAC. So perhaps not as cut and dry as it seems. TW is still likely a little cheaper overall even with that taken into account but it's maybe it's not the wild difference it seems initially, especially when you factor in a) the drop in gloss vs a decent boost in gloss and b) the fact that you'd go through far less TAC over a given amount of time, so the bottle would last you much longer.
This was a fun and CLOSE match up. Moonlight...or Seal N Shine?

Lots and lots of products!!! Good job!!! Some of these products I never heard of.....but I like keeping my car clean so thank you.......
It would have been interesting to have seen a small portion of the panel with seal n shine on top of the moonlight or vice versa
Moonlight... it goes a long way. Thanks Brian
All your videos are incredible!..love em!!!
Seal and Shine! is.... The Winner. Wooooh!!!
Seal and Shine!! Can't beat it, especially considering price!
I love your passion about TurtleWax 😎
If you topped seal n shine with Ice Spray Wax would that help ramp up gloss??? SS wins for me
That's exactly how I did my car yesterday.
@@jamesstewart1794 How was the gloss?
I love the look of Collinite the gloss is magnificent.
thanks for cutting to the chase and prepping off camera :) btw, I noticed in the heat test that the reflections of the lines in the ceiling got more distorted with the seal and shine. rewind to 7:47. great review as always !
i liked that part lol
I love Tac Systems Moonlight! Other than price point, moonlight is my winner. Plus why would I want to apply anything that makes my car less shiny? Especially after all the prep work! Moonlight Vs DPC Shield PLEASE!
If you have a matte finish, why not?
It still amazes me that how a 10$ product (TW SNS) can beat a 50$ product (TAC ML).
Seal N Shine is one Rockstar of a product
I would take small bottle and mix them together I believe that I will see nice result
One is water based and the other is oil based. I don't think they can be mixed.
TAC is fantastic and will hold up just fine in normal conditions.
When are you gonna finish the gyeon can coat video? Why not put gyeon against seal n shine?
Can coat is its next contestant.
Seal and Shine aint no joke!! TAC ssems like some pretty good stuff tho.
MaX83_ZA ruclips.net/video/5V585l9si1k/видео.html
I got issues. 😂
Love these videos. Turtle Wax Spray and Shine is just bizzare :)
I have a question I use multiple mits like you do I thought was great idea when I saw you do it would you wash your drying towels with wash mits all microfiber
I’ll use TW on my travel trailer for protection as I’m not fanatical about shine. But, my truck needs shine and protection
It stays the same or slightly goes down depending on the panel.
Have you tried it against 303 Touchless Sealant which is just spray on & off?
Seal N Shine is on my Mind, I'd choose it every time.
Any suggestions what product with great mechanical durability?
Was waiting for this one!
Seal and Shine and put a coat of Bead Maker on for a little added gloss. Try it
That is the video I have been waiting for..Thanks Brian...Awesome video.! You have to give Turtle Wax Company a ton of props for putting out a product of that caliber and in that price range. I am very happy with Tac Moonlight and Gyeon Wet combo but may try the Turtle wax on the Harley... Keep up the great videos and the best damn detailing channel on RUclips!
Thanks for the support Chicago Mike!!
TAC with Gyeon is my favourite. So easy and the customer is blown away with this maintenance detail. I wish there was a cost effective Gyeon Wet Coat though...
@@pkerrin6067 since we manufacturer all of our own products, and many for other companies, we don't have inflate our costs or cut or ingredients to make up for having it done by someone else. I am please to hear you're enjoying the results and your customers
With Moonlight be a light ceramic 25% si02, do you would think it would perform better than seal and shine (unknown si02 level) on a physical level ie - very light scratches or etchings like a traditional ceramic coating
s&s has sio2 also
@@jusb1066 it does.
But i said "unknown level" if you read carefully
is there a difference between water repellency and protection .. UV protection v important too. I find it amazing that these spray and rinse products and beat a genuine ceramic ... maybe turtle wax chemist should try with one ? if moon light could say double its durability to 12 months it would be amazing retail product
That was a great battle ! I’m sticking with the turtle 🐢 , can’t beat that cost!
Why does the SnS always seem to drop in gloss? Makes my truck shine real nice...
For me seal and shine especially for the cost
Well I like the gloss Tac but the cost is a factor. I say Turtle wax
Is it possible to put seal & shine as a base. Allow to cure, then top with a ceramic product such as moonlight? Or would they not stack
Should make a video of waxes that can be layered. For example, just the way Jescar sealant can be layers with Collinite .
What other great sealants can be layers with a good Carnauba wax??
hi! what about Soft99 Fusso Coat 12M Black vs TAC System - Moonlight ?
Thanks for the comparison review. I go for the moonlight with better gloss. That what we want for detailing. Most of us having few wax products. The cost diff is still acceptable. On the protection having consider the mud stain on car paint, the durability could be just the same.
Seal and shine all day. Just started using it and love it compared to the overpriced ones I had previously got suckered into
Seal and shine every 6 months followed by wax and dry every week. Great combo.
I always used Seal & Shine, it is an amazing product for under $20!!
Brian, since Seal and Shine is so good, would you consider using it professionally?
I use it professionally..why wouldn't you? The ease of application and the profit margine is insane!
@@justinreneau1983 one stupid word, Image. That's the only reason most people have a problem with it
@@davidmorales7371 yeah that's stupid. Makes no sense at all
@@justinreneau1983 I've seen Detailers offer Meguiars X-Press spray wax as the wax in thier wash and wax packages. I look at that as a huge lapse in integrity, X-press wax lasts a few days tops. Offer TW S&S, and I'll pay the up charge for a wax, and give them a shot at getting a good Google and Yelp review.
Why would the gloss go down so much with the turtle wax?
Anyone with a 93-97 camaro is freaking out over your spray bottle haha. Oh and I’ll still stick with seal and shine. After washing the car spray the turtle wax ice spray wax on top of the seal and shine before drying the car. Looks amazing after.
Hi Brian. I have the TAC on mine. Is there anything you can 'top' it with to make it last longer? Or is some QD after each wash cycle enough?
I feel like while TW is obviously a lot cheaper per bottle, you also use a fair bit more per application vs. TAC. So perhaps not as cut and dry as it seems. TW is still likely a little cheaper overall even with that taken into account but it's maybe it's not the wild difference it seems initially, especially when you factor in a) the drop in gloss vs a decent boost in gloss and b) the fact that you'd go through far less TAC over a given amount of time, so the bottle would last you much longer.
What's your top pick from all your tests on products in this category?
Do you believe that turtle wax seal and shine needs to be cured?
Brian, I know you have a lot of these, thanks!
Brian seal N shine just need a topper for the gloss......................maybe Ice detail spray.............
Seal N Shine is the Winner in my opinion but having said that how do you get these products off when you want to
