Yes, Finnish speakers understand most of this without any problems. It is like a relation between Swedish and Norwegian or something like it, the degree of mutual intelligibility is very high.
Such a beautiful Fino-Ugric language. And, what is precious to all those who will try or need to learn it is the fact that it's spelling seems to be utterly phonetic and the phonemes quite easy to reproduce! These are all wonderful traits in a language. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like karelian dialect of finnish language with russian words blended into it. A very interesting language indeed and fully intelligible for me as native finnish speaker.

It is frightening how much i can understand her as an Estonian compared to Finnish. Some of the words just seem to have some Russian accent/Language inspired endings. I think it is a mix of all three languages.
Forced assimilation is a very ugly crime that isn't talked about. Unfortunately I'm half Russian and I feel extremely bad about the fact that communists ever managed to take the power in Russia. During the Russian empire they also forcefully annexed Karelia and Finland to the empire unfortunately, but at least Finnish people had cultural autonomy. Karelia IS Finnish, culturally, ethnically. That needs to be respected, and the language needs to be preserved. During the communism era, the worst part of European history, they almost erased any local dialects or culture. Communists even tried to do the same thing in Latvia, replace the language, they tried to settle many Russian workers there. but thankfully Latvians managed to resist those plans And now many European countries hate Russia because of communism, and Russia now is healing from the time of the red evil. I just hope Europeans can become united again, all of our beautiful languages, dialects, culture, flourish In China they also suffered the same problem, where many local dialects and languages were erased and forcefully replaced by the government for Mandarin, so they could control the population with their censored and controlled information. they called it the "cultural revolution" in the 60's

Her phonemes - the actual sound of syllables and vowels - sound like _Russian,_ to my english-speaking ear. (Whereas Finnish phonemes do _not_ sound at all like Russian to me.) Is this because Russian has so influenced Tver speakers of Karelian??

Finnish, certainly. I don't hear much resemblance to Hungarian. Karelian has more Slavic consonants, no doubt because of Russian influence. Perhaps the "sh" "ch" "zh" and "ts" sounds remind you of Hungarian.

Btw as a hungarian I can hear this lady speaks with strong Russian accent as she pronounces these consonants just like in Russian. It would be interesting to have a hungarian who speaks finnish fluently and let her/him read karelian text.
I'm finnish. I'd say I can understand about 90-95% of what she's saying. There are some unfamiliar words that throw me off the wagon a bit, but for the most part it basically sounds like finnish spoken with a heavy russian accent with added russian sounds like the "sh" instead of a "s" for example which isn't used in finnish. Though before the WW2 when my grandma and her family used to live there, the karelian language apparently sounded a lot more like finnish phonetically which is why a lot of finns today aren't even aware that Karelian is considered it's own language cause we're used to only hearing the Karelian dialects of the finnish parts of Karelia that still sound like finnish and are just considered a few out of several finnish dialects. So a lot of finns have honestly forgotten about the russian part of Karelia and how much the language has evolved there over the years. But honestly it's very confusing and I feel like I'm not even educated enough on the subject despite being of Karelian heritage. Btw the level of intelligibility for finns in terms of Karelian probably also depends on where in finland you're from. Cause even though I'm from Helsinki, because of my background I'm more familiar with certain Karelian words/phrases that might not sound so familiar to someone from the north-west for e.g.
