I know they were at present arms but I don’t understand why the guidon let the colors touch the ground? Someone please explain that to me because here in the US it’s frowned upon.
In British custom flags or colours are "trailled" (ie laid on the ground) in salute to royalty, or the fallen. It represents the subordination of all national and local symbols to the crown, and, ultimately, to God. In this case HRH the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who was taking the salute as Captain General, Royal Marines. Incidentally, the officer carrying the colour is termed the ensign in the British forces, that being traditionally the job of the most junior officer in the regiment, who would usually be an ensign in rank (now superceded by 2nd Lt).
it is more than frowned upon in the United States. My understanding, though, is that, at a military funeral, the UK flag is buried with the deceased. That does not happen here either.

As a Boer, I wish this was played in 1899. We would have had so much respect for GB that we probably would've demanded ships back to Europe in exchange for our gold. In retrospect, no, we wouldn't. But we would have gone softer on General Buller's dandy's.
I guess if you had gone softer, or at least offered a fair fight like real men, there wouldn't have been any need for those charming holiday camps you loved so much.
@@AtheAetheling imagine saying “real men” while putting wives and kids in camps because your redcoats got shit on by farmers on horses.
That was unbelievable!

Noticed the British royals were saluting even during the Star Spangled Banner. Is this common? If so, why?
I'm not totally sure but it may be something like a sign of respect to another countries national anthem and traditions but I'm not too sure
One always salutes when a national anthem is played - a simple mark of respect.
the beginning gave me star wars vibes
