I was looking into getting a set of these quite a few years ao, and about a week later I found a set in a dumpster, no power supply and the soundsticks themselves were split, I jerryrigged some power and hot glued the sticks back together and they worked!
For anyone that can't find the volume buttons, they're not buttons they're touch capacitive buttons on the bottom front of the speaker where the hole is, you will see two silver "furnishing," these are the volume buttons. You don't need to press them in, you just tap your finger on them. The knob on the back is for bass volume and power when pushed in.
Had the exact same speakers as you showed here. Was very satisfied with them for the most part. The upstairs room my PC was set up in was right over our kitchen downstairs. Every time I decided to play one of my PC games, my wife was IMMEDIATELY aware I was no longer "working". The base unit was on the floor and those base sounds would shake the walls downstairs. Down side: mine only lasted about 8 years. Power surge victim, I think (and, yes, they were behind a 3k joule protector)
Great story, thanks for sharing you fond memories of the speakers. And sorry about the power surge sending them to a early death. I've always had mine on a surge protector, but I'm not sure of what the spec's were on it. I hope I get another few good years out of them. And thanks for watching.
It's funny you mention Altec Lansing speakers, I found a set of those also in basement, but I didn't get a chance to test them to see if they still worked. That might be my next video, LOL
Awesome Blast from the Past!! I do wish the quality of products were still the same. USB has taken over everything anymore... That "plug" RCA male btw. They still sound awesome. A client of mine has one at his office desk. I tested it, it sounds great! Yes the knob is for the sub amp. They still make and sell those to the best of my knowledge. They are "of course" wireless now, BT... I must confess though, I was never crazy about the see-though look on those or the Apple see-through look. Great post Ron!
Wow Ron, that’s one nice looking see through sound system, 20 years old dang. How’s the sound from it? Hope all is going well with all the unpacking, Ron. Get some rest!
I have mine plugged in via USB, a USB hub as a matter of fact. And I've never had a issue with plugging in via USB. Sorry I couldn't be of any help to you, I hope you get it sorted out.
Do you mind doing short video about the components and the way of the hook up please. It would be very helpful for a lot of people. There is no info at all how to deal with that old setup of speakers. Thank you
Ive just been given this, and for the life of me cannot find where the speaker volume is, its not at the base of the speakers illustrated in the manual, sub-woofer lights up with a slight buzzing noise, but no sound comes out the speakers
@@RonaldBrown59 I tried turning the knob on the subwoofer it only adjust the bass, and I couldn't see any other volume knobs anywhere,I got in contact with Harman kardon but they just sent me a very basic setup manual for the wireless model, mine isn't wireless .🤷
@@noname1st139 I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you, and I'm away from home for awhile and don't have access to the speakers at this time. Have you tested them on a different computer to device?
@@RonaldBrown59 no worries my friend, I tried it in my phone's earphone socket and exactly the same, I'll have a look tomorrow, it's probably something really simple that i overlooked lol

So retro looking! Thanks for sharing, Ron.
I was still a young man when I first got these speakers. Thanks for watching Al.
I have these, loved them when I first saw them. Still have them hooked up on my wife’s computer. I picked up the Bluetooth Soundsticks as well.

What model are these? I found a pair of the speakers for $5 but don’t know which sub to try to get! Light blue base like these tho

It's on the right speaker, it's touch capacitive, two silver furnishings right below the right speaker hole.
pretty kewl !!
If I compare them to a JBL speaker it would be to a flip, charge, extreme?
They look very impresive, good review my friend.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching.
A friend of mine gave me this system because it stopped working. You think its worth trying to fix?
I would say no, because you can probably find something that sounds just as good or better at a very affordable price.
What version OS are you running?
This is first gen soundstick right? What year this speaker was made?
I can only tell you that I purchased these new around 1999, to go with my first iMac.
i just ordered some
nice video
