Flashlight modding has a special place in my heart. I appreciate you sharing your project. You gotta link the tools you're using, affiliate links are fine. I honestly find mass produced lights that have no reason to be modded incredibly boring. They end up being shelf queens. We've seen the slow death of DIY hot rods. BLF designed lights have essentially died. Mass produced hot rods, aux led, boost drivers, titanium, copper, buzzwords, all kinds of different led configurations, new models coming out all the time. consumerism has gotten out of hand.
You make fine points. This video has links to another swap video where I show the tools and techniques better. I’m sorry I’ve never linked to Amazon, because most of the tools (like the hot plate and soldering station) come from AliExpress.
Yeah I'd like to see more temp options that indicate the expected lumens so people know when choosing. That would go a long way. I've seen some lights come in cw or nw here and there. I'd guess they don't sell as many of them is why they don't do it more. They should really try an enthusiast geared light to see how that sells
There has to be logistical reasons for olight to not use better LED. I have modded a few of them and high cri doesn’t seem to make them that much dimmer. They are such great hosts.
Two big reasons: 1) lumens sells lights to the public 2) more lumens can mean more candela. But as I demonstrated in this video, not always. But truthfully, if I had Cree XP-L HI 5700k emitters in there, it would be only slightly less than 5000lm, and far more candela than the ffl351a. So lumens does matter to candela.
I have a mate who has been working in lighting on movies and TV for about 30 years. Let’s just say he understands kelvin and CRI more than most. We were speaking about headlamps for working on tools or around the yard/camping etc. He just ordered a olight perun mini 2 in CW. I asked if he cared about the cri or kelvin on it and he said he was happy with it and it didn’t bother him at all. Moral to the story unless you are lighting up a set on a movie or maybe doing art via torch light. Why does the cri matter so much. When I work on my tools at work cri doesn’t change how I work or my happiness. I don’t make mistakes because the colour rendition isn’t 100% accurate. Why does everyone care so much??I understand it’s a hobby and a passion for perfection exists but I feel everyone just echos a common thought.
I think a lot of people infer that higher CRI means better tint, which is untrue. I however am very sensitive to above BBL light. Green beams don’t work for me.
The higher the cri value, the more comfortable you will be with that light. For example. Use a light with a very low cri value in the room where you read a book or watch a movie, you will observe problems such as headache, stinging eyes, watery eyes, feeling sleepy, fatigue, and exhaustion. Just as you see that your phone's camera flashes quickly and creates a flicker effect when you hold it up to the light, your brain perceives this and tries not to let you perceive it, and as a result, you will observe problems such as headache, stinging eyes, watery eyes, feeling sleepy, fatigue, and exhaustion. To prevent this, you should use lights that offer cri values of 80% and above, ideally 90-95. Even change the bulb you use in the toilet, your quality of life will start to increase immediately. I am also interested in photography and videography. The purpose of the lights in this area is not to create a flicker effect on the camera. As for the flashlight, I may use it for 30 seconds and put it back in my pocket, but even a low cri value on the flashlight will cause headaches. For this reason, I always pay attention to this issue.
Bright, efficient, low cri emitters have their place. Even in my collection. Especially for massive flooders. It’s only my edc that must be 3500-4000k and rosy.
Prowess to E07x Canon in one simple mod ;) Huh, the R9 only being 70 is interesting. Thought those would hit R9080. Gonna need someone to make a custom 5050 pcb for this to swap in some FFL505A
Hey Cheule, is there any chance you offer this emitter swap as a service? I love my prowess, but I tend to not use it as much as I would exactly because of those crappy emitters. I don’t have all of the necessary equipment to do it myself, but I’m interested how much it might cost to have someone do the swap for me. Thanks
@@cheule I’m sorry I may be RUclips illiterate ☺️ but I can’t seem to find your email on there. Does it need to be on a desktop version or can I find the it on mobile?
I agree that Red Green colorblind people won’t worry about above BBL emitters. However, if you have an eye for color, the Osram P9 is quite greenish. Use it next to a Nichia 519a and it’s obvious even to people that are untrained.
The prowess really should have had the seeker 4 pro dial for the brightness adjustment.
I love the new desk design and studio behind you!
You forgot to mention that sweet SF clip on that LM Toolworks 😂

Wish they just made it like this from the factory

Where's the fun in that?
Nichias 519 and FFL351 are inefficient indeed. But muggles blow their minds when they see high CRI neutral DUV for the first time.
Just bought this for 99 bucks! Hope I don't regret it.
It’s a very capable light. Great machining and anodizing too. Silky smooth.

I thought you had a lot of flashlights, until I saw your hat collection 😂
Guilty.
I’d buy one if it had better emitters from factory. It should also have the scroll wheel button thingy
That's a great EDC now.
💯
That thing is way too big to be an EDC unless you plan on holstering it everywhere.
Honestly. I've owned a few Olights and aside from the LED choice they are great lights. I really don't mind the emitters for what i use them for

Cree XPL Hi has high CRI and lumens leds (95)
Typically XP-L HI is not high cri. The nice tinted 5A4 4000ks are CRI 80. But that doesn’t bother me much because they look great.

Honestly it looks amazing. I doubt anyone would notice the r9 10 point variance. Remember, CRI 70 emitters are usually -50 r9!
Hi, great video. Have you ever tested Ledlenser? They do hi CRI across all their work series and use advance optics for spot and flood
You know, I haven’t. I’ve heard positive things about
I like the LM Tool Works implementation. Way ahead of that Olight camping/coal mining? light.
what about the marauder mini? still a compromise but nice
Hey, have you checked out the Wuben L1?
I have not. Right angle correct? For some reason my brain always avoids right angles.
@cheule It has a rotating head to suit different needs. It's not super floody or focused with the spot, but I really love it for it's size and price
Still holding out for one day the public understanding cri.. 😢
We can dream…

I have acebeam w35....My favoritter light its perfect👍
Dang. Nice video.
Would you consider selling that light or one like it with very similar mods?
Let’s talk. are you on Reddit for FB?

tons of people are color blind as hell so tint REALLY doesnt make meaningful difference. the prowess is not green at all

I own the prowess and it has a very green tint to my eye. I will be swapping emitters for this reason.
