    Fantastic video! I have been thinking about the Warrior X4 but decided to pick up the Javelot in the sale. I've been having a little buyer's remorse because it seemed like I didn't have a real need for it. Your video got me excited about it. Your overhead view was absolutely convincing. Thanks for a great review.

  • @DJ_CRIZP
    @DJ_CRIZP 11 месяцев назад +15

    I think the X4 is still olight's thrower king. USB-C plus a lot more lumens. Plus, I like the more balanced beam profile. It seems like a more useful general use light with enough punch to cut through rain, fog, and light pollution. And there is no way I'm putting either of these in my pocket (I have a Warrior Mini 3 for that) so the slight increase in size is worth the trade off to me. Thanks for the comparison and informative video!

    • @DJ_CRIZP

      @@cheule yeah, it's all relative. I know some people who won't carry something larger than a AAA light, and some people who carry 21700 lights with 40mm heads. Personally, I always like to have a 18650 or 18350 powered light with a floody beam as my pocket EDC, and then some sort of 21700 thrower as my backpack light. So for throwers I generally don't prioritize size, but for 18650 flood lights I'm super picky about size. I guess it all depends on how big your pockets are. Lol

    I'm hoping my local Olight friend picks this up as I'd love to compare it against the On The Road M4 I was telling you about back in January. It's insanely compact for a 21700, also uses the L50, and has a standard USB-C port on it. I haven't taken an amperage reading yet but I think they could drive the L50 a bit harder, but as it is it has some decent throw.

    Honestly, I like the Mini hotspot more. Obviously, it’s not as bright, but it’s got a slightly bigger, more defined hotspot and, more importantly, the actual hotspot is flat instead of have a huge gradient of light.
    BTW, with Olight's proprietary battery, both the positive and negative terminals are on the same side, which is why other batteries aren't working. It's awful that they force proprietary consumables.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  11 месяцев назад +1

      I always try standard batteries as well, because sometimes the proprietary battery is only needed for charging, and the light will still operate without the proprietary cell.

    I have loved Olight flashlights for some time now especially the Javelot Mini. One of the issues i did have with it though was that the magnet on the bottom is actually quite strong and was picking up metal flakes from the ground (I work on cars alot) while it was holstered and was messing with the tailswitch by not allowing me to turn on the light and causing it to activate randomly at times. I would love to see a rubber protected switch on the tail in the future with them especially now that they are utilizing USB type C charging on more of their lights. Might pick this one up for my warehouse job though.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  11 месяцев назад

      The new tail switch design (which is employed on the Warrior nano and this new Javelot) is claimed to have better metal filing protection. But I can’t report on that directly.

    • @joemoore1382
      @joemoore1382 11 месяцев назад

      Well that's awesome if that's the case! Definitely shows that Olight is listening to customer feedback as that's one of the things that I informed them of.

    • @DJ_CRIZP
      @DJ_CRIZP 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@joemoore1382 I also work in industrial environments, and the old tail switches were terrible for picking up metal shavings and dust. The new, flater switch (introduced on the Warrior Mini 3 and has been on every tail switch light since then) is wayyyy better. It will still pick up metal stuff. However, it is much easier to clean, and also the shavings do not get stuck between the two contacts of the switch like they did on the old one. I don't have the Javelot, but it's the same switch as my WM3, and I've had no functional issues with mine. Yes, it's still a little irritating, but it no longer causes real problems for the switch. Hope this helps!

Great voice and now a face to the voice. Funny how no ui seems to be 100% perfect but this is pretty darn close. I saw your K75 in the throwers vid you did...I don't have an sbt90.2 in my collection and thinking of getting the k30-gt...I know it gets hot but just curious if you have anything to offer in support or critique of the k30. If not all good. Keep lighting our spirits with your great reviews. I could care less if you favour Olights or not. I care about the content, knowledge and enthusiasm you bring. ✌️

    • @cheule
      @cheule  11 месяцев назад

      These are encouraging words! Thank you! As far as SBT90.2 throwers are concerned, I still think the best two on the market are the K75 and the A1.
      The K75 is the best single emitter model, because it’s 90% as good as the mateminco MT90+, and 1/3 the size. The only single lights better are so heavy and unwieldy that they aren’t fun anymore.
      But if you want to go large, the Wuben A1 is crazy bright. Side by side with a GT94x, it still *slightly* brighter, but the runtimes of the A1 destroy the GT94x. I used to read the specs on the quad Sbt90.2 models and gain to see how much more impressive they could be over a single SBT90.2 model, but I was wrong. They’re “oh my….” Levels of brighter.

    Hello, I have a question. I'm now getting to know all the different flashlight options, I didn't imagine there were so many brands, I preferred to buy a North American brand, but when I saw that both Streamlight and Surefire make flashlights that don't seem to innovate as much and aren't extremely modest in terms of lumens and candelas I'm interested in Chinese brands.
    Like everyone else, I like to buy products that last a long time, in your experience which brands last the longest without showing defects? Which flashlights from which brands have you used for years and have not failed.

    Would love to see a head to head against the Nitecore MH25 Pro. The Nitecore has 3300 lumens, around the same candela ( throw )with all the modes. This is why I won't consider this new olight.
    Saying that I know the run times on the olight will be better as the lumens are less than half that of the Nitecore.
    Thoughts?

    • @cheule

      The MH25 Pro looks interesting! Being double the lumens and slightly less throw means the hotspot must be significantly larger than the Javelot. This is good or bad, depending on the application.

    I really like to see emitter innovation and the round die type shows promise with better beam uniformity and hotspot definition. However the SFT40's larger beamwidth and significantly brighter spill give it more practical use cases. This seems a lot like an Osram W1/W2 comparison, the same conclusions apply. Personally, im partial to trading ultimate narrow intensity for the still very solid throw with much wider beam of the SFT40, with more lumens. Luminus will soon release high CRI versions of the SFT40 in 4000K and 5000K. Now THATs an LED to die for!

    "it's not an expensive light", dude, it's 80 on sale, it's a great light that's overall worth the price but it's not cheap. And at that price decent tint is a must for me. I don't see any need for a circular emitter on a reflector light, it makes sense with lenses like in the Marauder Mini but the irregularity is completely unnoticeable in reflectors so what's the point in perfecting the beam pattern so much then haveing a nasty low-CRI green CW?

    I love the design of the new Javelot but think they missed the mark a little. The Javelin mini runs the full 1000 lumens for 6.5 minutes, whereas the new one turbo only lasts for 2 minutes before the step down. Shame really

    How does it compare to Marauder Mini in beam mode ? And the Warrior3S (many people seem to compare it to the 3S)

    • @kundetjenesten

      I gave my 3S to the mrs. I felt that it fell between alot of chairs so to speak, not very impressed personally and it is NOT a thrower by a long shot (pun intended).
      The specs between the Javelot and the Marauder mini would give the win to the Javelot, but with my eyes I can't say that it is a huge difference, both are really really good throwers.

    I brought the mini and it was a complete waste of money I wish I could return it as I don't even bother using it. I really think Olight is grasping at ideas these days, there's only so many variations of "flashlight's" they can make 🤷. I have plenty of Olight products but there just getting boring after the Marauder Mini which I love!

    • @kundetjenesten
      @kundetjenesten 10 месяцев назад +1

      100% agree! Never had the mini Javelot, but I felt the exact same way about my Warrior 3S: a waste of money. After picking up the Marauder mini and the Seeker 4 Pro, I gave the 3S to wifey. She only had a small key ring light and the 3S was a big upgrade from that at least.
      But yes, the Marauder mini does make everything else boring, or extremely expensive and cumbersome to lug around if you DO find something that is better.
      I'm still happy that I bought the Seeker though, it is a great light for work (commercial trucking night shift) where the Mm still is a bit bulkier and the one downside to it is the holster imho. I really wish they could have figured out a good plastic holster for it.

    Have they improved flashlights LED,s in the past 10 years ? I bought a couple flashlights a few years ago and they boldly claim huge brightness . Max setting only lasts a few useless seconds . Brightness before max still gets to hot . Instead of just push,push,push for so called amazing lumens these manufacturers need to focus on more efficient led bulbs . Did i hear right ? They forced only there 21700 cell to work in it ? Nope ,next… i actually prefer the x-4 from the review … liked the beam quite a bit better .

    • @cheule

      Current emitters are far brighter than what was available a decade ago. The SFT40 and round die in this Javelot are pretty incredible.

  • @roninkmh7625
    @roninkmh7625 6 месяцев назад

    At 3:56 I got really excited about it being a 21700 flashlight but it's really a PROPRIETARY 21700 that you can't even charge separately. I really thought that Olight has changed after so many years but no. My take is that you should say those important facts in the beginning as to not waste time to most of us who don't want proprietary stuff. Cause when someone says Olight and Nitecore I'd almost always sa no.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  6 месяцев назад +1

      You mentioned that “you cannot charge it separately,” and you absolutely can.
      I find their batteries being proprietary a non-issue for me, because of a few reasons:
      1) every Olight includes a cell, and they’re very high quality. I just don’t see wearing out one of these cells before the light would be ready to be replaced by something better.
      2) having both poles on the top end allows Olight to incorporate charging AND an eSwitch on the tail without the need for an extra signal tube inside the body. This means for slimmer designs in many cases.
      3) while this is more for Olight themselves, by making their batteries proprietary, they are able to better control the cells people use in their lights. Since Olight was sued several times over battery failures, which in each case was the result of off-brand non-Olight batteries, I can see why they would want to cover their backsides.
      I don’t expect you to agree with me, but those are my reasons for not making a fuss about their batteries.

    • @AmnesiaTanner
      @AmnesiaTanner 3 месяца назад

      @@cheuleI really appreciate your take on the proprietary cells. It certainly isn’t ideal, but I don’t get why so many people take issue with it. I have never burned through a cell in an Olight and after 500 cycles or so I think I can muster up the courage to buy a new cell haha.

      I strongly disagree that the SBT90.2 is better than the SFT40. Sure it is more lumens, but it’s less lumens per mm^2, less efficient, runs hotter, and less candela.
      The SFT40 is a better emitter for small throwers.

      The tint is quite green, especially on low modes. The Mini has a much more neutral tint for some reason. But it’s hard to argue with the throw the Javelot provides. As I mentioned ruined in the video, the human eye’s peak receptivity is 555nm, which is smack in the middle of green light.
