I think your under rating the eos R. its effectively a 5d mk4. And its a fine camera its my go to camera. I also have the R6 but hardly ever use it. Its best suited for fast action. The R is better for video work but has a big 1.7 crop for 4k video. which can be a benefit as well as a disadvantage. As for image stabilisation its not really that important fast action requires a fast shutter speed. if your able to get away with long shutter speeds then stabilisation is a must. I find stabilisation on lenses more than good enough. Unless your on drugs and can not hold the camera steady. It takes time and skill to get good at holding a camera. I can get away with shutter speeds most can not. The reason for this is spent years practicing.

thanks for your constructive comment, as you can see I do not use the R system yet and would like to hear from more people that are using the cameras,

For my work during the day in good light my two 5d mk1s are still unshakeable. If I was to jump it would be the Canon RP not mentioned here. Brilliant camera

*Always nice listening to you, Richard!* I've tested and shot reviews on R, RP and R6 (among numerous DSLRs) and the only decent is really R6. R and RP being full frame and having DPAF + eye-detection AF still lack in ergonomics and build quality while offering not much new/better than semi-pro DSLRs (6D and 5D lines). And R6 is the beast all around (pretty expensive though)! Except for the very point you mentioned - lack of full eyesight dynamic range, which we get from optical viewfinder. Tony Northrup has long being talking of possible hybrid systems with flipping EVF\OVF to have the best of both worlds, but manufacturers don't go that way... Still for me personally 5D Classic (that was the reason to stick to this channel) has the best AWB\colours, depth and... kinda magic! If exposed correctly 99% JPEGs are awesome right away. So I keep mine forever and plan to switch 5DII for 6DII. In this course, it would be nice to hear your thoughts on 6D and 6DII.

`Hi Richard , I have had many canon camera , I moved from the 1D series to a 5Dmk3 ( which I used for many years ) , then I went to purchased a canon R thinking I could do without the second card .
Then I went back to the 1DX series love it and and always will , but I found I was struggling with the weight . So I now have the R6 with grip and love it , Its not a bad weight with the grip , but I have option to use it body only , it's tiny with a 40mm stm lens . I use it with the grip on when I shoot with the EF 70-200 2.8L is mk2 and I use it with an adaptor ,to me it's sharp and very quick , my bread and butter lens ,always has been . As I'm led to believe there will be no need to calibrate the lens and camera , as I have done before .
The tech is an eye opener Richard spend some of that money , enjoy yourself , by the way you can turn off the EVF and use normally .

Love your practical viewpoint on weddings - I started shooting weddings and events with medium and 35mm formats in 2000 and converted to digital with the 5d classic in 2005. Like you I shot with my 5d for years since there was no real demand from customers for anything better. With the increasing demand for video and hybrid coverage, I upgraded to two R6’s, a RF 28-70 and RF 70-200 and could not be happier. 20MP is plenty and 4k video is amazing.
Also, i use both single point AF and Eye AF by using custom button assignments to get the best of both. By default I use zone or Eye AF in AI servo mode, but I use the back button focus On to activate single AF point centered when I need to pick out single faces or points. I also map the FEL * button for Eye AF focus so I can instantly let the camera go auto AF. Between these choices I am ready for anything. This system has worked well and made my event coverage much more responsive and thorough.
