I saw Gary Clark Jr. perform live for the first time as the opener for the Foo Fighters in Memphis TN... and also had the honor to see him again as the headliner at the MInglewood Hall in Memphis a few years later. Good stuff y'all!!
Word!!.Bro. He Sounds .like 'Gary Clark.Jr' To me.!! never any reason to try n make comparisons Just try &,Live/Enjoy 'It in the moment..!₩-----:-:-:;-;-;••••••
I saw him live in September, he swapped out his guitars for every song. I'd never seen anyone do that before. He's humble on stage, doesn't even stand in the spotlight, he let his band get the spotlights. He gave his opening act Jackie Venson an hour long set. He rocks hard and is a class act. If you get the opportunity to see him, do yourself a favor and go!
I used to catch him at the old Antone’s and the continental club all the time before he went global! Look at him go, I say! He’s awesome! And yes, very humble!
It don't get much more raw, crunchy, and gritty than this which is what I enjoy greatly! Went to a Kings of Leon concert in Columbus, OH. years ago and I really only went because Gary Clark Jr. opened for them lol. I stayed for a few Kings of Leon songs, just isn't the same!
Personally dont like comparing artists to anyone. While everyone is influenced by someone, every artist writes their own book. Every song, every lyric makes a chapter in that book. Just turn your headphones on, turn the world off, listen and enjoy. You like an artist for their particular skill set and explore from there. My 5 cents for what it's worth. Gary Clark is a huge talent.
Man... He sounds nothing like Hendrix. Unless you count the fuzz.. Gary Clark Jr sounds like old school met new school. Heavy riffs with blues soul. Give Gary props for keeping blues alive and interesting. Don't compare him to Hendrix because he plays blues.. no one will ever be Hendrix and no one will ever be Gary Clark Jr..
+Matthew Howe you can and should compare him to Hendrix. I'm a fellow lover of Gary's music the same as you brother, but he should be compared to the great Jimi Hendrix because he has that psychedelic style Jimi had. He is a combo of Jimi, Chuck Barry, Robert Johnson, and Eric Clapton. Don't be so nostalgic.
I like the whole song of course. But I can't help but get a little impatient knowing that at some point in the song Gary is going to tear the fabric of space and time and sear my synapses with his solo. I live for that shit man, brings me back to reality.
I too live for that visceral gut wrenching feeling that can only be brought by a master playing the electric guitar. It can detach you from space and time to a place where the only thing important is the music being created. This man, Gary Clark Jr, has the talent and heart to bring you into his world, and that's a rare gift.
He's his own talent, artist & man. Congrats to Gary Clark Jr. for being recognized by the Grammy's for what he's bringing. Black Keys are great at what they do. Gary is great at what he does. There isn't a competition, because Gary doesn't believe in it. Plus Gary & the Keys are rolling together so, they're not concerned with all that.
Just saw Gary at RFK on July 4th with the Foo Fighters. First time I ever saw him live. Very awesome guitar player and he really wowed the audience with a very cool sound dynamic. I must say it took me back many years to when a raw distorted guitar and a soulful voice said it all.
Tbh, this song is perfect for an alarm. The first three seconds of audio screeching induced a panicked scramble as you find your phone to turn of the alarm before the main guitar riff
Shared a couple of beers, a great conversation and a brotherly hug with him back in the day when he played The Continental Club here in Austin... Great to see how far he's come.
This is going to piss off some people, I've always been a huge Hendrix fan but truthfully Gary has taken the best of Hendrix and moved it to a new level. Even his personality is like Jimi - so humble and self-effacing, so sweet but then you take his ability to elevate blues in a Hendrix style of playing but with the voice so racked with soul that Jimi could only pray for. I honestly believe that Gary Clark Jr is Jimi Hendrix incarnate. Think about it folks: if muscle memory is real, an energy just changes form, why is it so hard to believe that talent like Jimi's couldn't come back to us?
I don't get why everyone makes this dude out to be a technical guitar virtuoso... he's got some cool riffs and style, and some catchy songs, but that's about it.
Been watching Gary since New Orleans. Love him. He is is own man and his own style. I remember Stevie 30 years ago doing Hendrix. Stevie went on to be amazing. So sad he is gone. Very happy we have Gary. So Happy we have someone that loves what we love and continues and keeps up the amazing nessss....
850 👎, seriously??? They're frickin' deaf!👂 So sad. Infinite 👍 for all of Gary Clark Jr's music, especially "NUMB". Sure glad I'm not deaf. Gary, You are an amazing artist! THANK YOU!👍👍👍👍👍
Although I have listened to this track many times, this is the first time for a long time I have looked at the comments to find 5years ago I left the last comment, I do hope that people have been watching this video because it not they will have been missing out on some incredible music and talent
Rock n roll will never die it gets wounded sometimes badly but she always makes a speedy recovery and comes back stronger than before especially if she had the blues
I cry when I hear this song... memories of breaking down at my lowest point. Girl bailed on me, chipping away at 35 year old linoleum flooring from my basement that flooded in the house I couldn't afford anymore. Crazy how close to the ragged fuckin edge you can be driven.. when you thought you found the bottom but it keeps goin' Well I'm numb.. Gary bridges the ethos of emotion to instrument better than most.
Kirk Blackadar I felt this numbness when I came home from work to my guy all moved out... I hope you feel better they say time heals all wounds but only time will tell take care

Lets not compare a musician to another, instead give this man some credit for keeping the rock scene alive in a scene that's now dominated by pop!!!!

Bet
good observations. I've seen him give Zapata the occasional solo too, you don't see many frontmen do that!
I used to catch him at the old Antone’s and the continental club all the time before he went global! Look at him go, I say! He’s awesome! And yes, very humble!
@@jprmac1 Zapata makes my big toe shoot up in my boot!

Gary is gonna bring blues back to the spotlight
Blues never left lol. And there's definitely better blues players.

Thank God for Gary Clark Jr, Derek Trucks and John Mayer Trio. May the Blues strike down today’s so-called music with a mighty blow.

Gary Clarke Junior is awesome and not emulating Hendrix...He is his own deal.
A great song done to perfection 😊
This is the problem with austin musicians we get spoiled and don't discover them for 10 years. This is top 5.. maybe top 2...this is amazing

His pain will have to grow deeper, then we will feel Hendricks. He is still young.
Tbh, this song is perfect for an alarm. The first three seconds of audio screeching induced a panicked scramble as you find your phone to turn of the alarm before the main guitar riff
Amazing talent! One of the best tunes I’ve heard in a long time! Must see live!!
fully agree!!! 💯
Fantastic!! So refreshing to hear good blues artists still rocking it.
Been following this guy for years. He is to the blues what Sturgill Simpson is to country music. A throwback with actual talent.
I'll have to look him up.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
As similar as a riff this is to Come Together, it doesn't block my enjoyment of this song for me.
Shared a couple of beers, a great conversation and a brotherly hug with him back in the day when he played The Continental Club here in Austin... Great to see how far he's come.
Giovanni Adrian God I wish I was living in Austin sometimes.. In Denmark you can't meet these kind of musicians..
To my ex wife, I loved her, married 18 years, first 10 were amazing, last felt like this.

Here thanks to JRE as well. LOVING this dude's sound
For all the young folks, this is what music sounds like, makes me think of another musician, the great Robin Trower

Joe Bonamassa, bro
I forgot to mention him, my bad.

I don't get why everyone makes this dude out to be a technical guitar virtuoso... he's got some cool riffs and style, and some catchy songs, but that's about it.

I am pretty sure I found a piece of my soul in that solo
La guitarra "sucia" de Gary está marcando tendencia y le da a su música un aire contestatario.
Gary is reinvigorating the blues.
The new blues....refreshing. Gary Clark Jr. I'm so glad I found your music.
This is a very unexpected blend but amazing. I love this song.
One part Beatles
One part Jimi
One part Lenny Kravitz
One part Black Keys.
Mix together

God Damn FIRE....
Accurate, Brother. When he started singing I thought of the black keys. Amazingly unique sound that invokes memories of other great artists.
No. Just no.

A bit of Come Together in that riff... but it's all good... love it. Fuck yeah!
a bit........
It's what it might've sounded like if Jimi joined the Beatles.
Stoner rock version of the Come Together riff? I really really need to do a record like this. Damn it.
And to think I didn't like this song at first. Now I can't get enough of the Genous that is Gary Clark Jr

Mike Truby More specifically, blues rock. The Black Angels are psychedelic rock though. A bit different
Dániel Dósa Stevie Ray Vaughan....Ry Cooder, etc
