I opened for Gary Clark Jr a few years ago in Dublin Ireland... Gary was a gent, his band were so great to me.. But I have to say Dave his guitar tech went above and beyond... And absolute gentleman, he made me feel so comfortable, we talked gear and shot the shit.... Great to see him again... and I love Gary, his band and what he's doing ...!
I got the chance to meet Gary and his band a few months ago when he played here in Memphis. I saw him at the Foo Fighters' show in Memphis. When I saw him play at minglewood hall (this time he headlined)me gave me one of him pick and talked to me about guitars and music. He is an amazing guitarist.
Seems like everything Gary owns was a gift. He is obviously loved dearly by the ones he surrounds himself with. That is typically a sign of a good human being.
RUclips video comments.......lol. People criticizing Gary and his gear when he's playing arenas, touring with Foo, and marrying models. What are you guys doing? Buying overpriced Gibsons, staying in the pentatonic box, and drooling over girls you can't get at the local bar. Who's winning? Keep doing your think Gary! Great interview Premier Guitar!
+Daetwan Williams Damn, I love Gary, but I hate this kind of "argument". This is the same argument I always find whenever a "believer", a "directioner", a "rusher", etc. lands on a negative post about their idols. If you want to talk about Gary's music then you should talk about his music, and how it is important not only for you but for the entire genre... Because the things you just wrote are totally meaningless: Justin Bieber is doing the exact same things you described... Does it make him a better musician than Gary?, no, it doesn't. If you talk trash about Bieber and a "believer" throws this argument at you, would you say that it totally changed your mind or what you think Bieber's music means?, nope. Do you know who else is selling tickets, cd's, sleeping with models and choking on money?, Lil' Wayne... I hope you don't believe that makes him a great musician.
You should really do some research before reply to people's comments. You have no idea who in this music world are actual musicians and who aren't. It's ok to not like someone's music or their personality but I'd do research before I say they aren't musicians because the examples you gave tell me that you know nothing. You're stuck in one genre and judge other based on what you hear in the news. Again, do some research first
+Daetwan Williams Nope, your point is this: people who criticize Gary should realize he's playing arenas, hanging out with supermodels, etc. Right? So I said your point is lame, because Bieber also does that. And I also said that, while I love Gary's music, - I must say I'm a fan -, that poor argument you used to defend him from most likely metalheads doesn't mention his talent as a musician. That talent should be the one and only argument when you try to defend him.
My second and third guitars a Fender Player Telecaster and Epiphone Casino were both gifts I got for my birthday from my friends, I could never afford those guitars myself but they could, knowing that they bought those for me on 2 different occasions
Thanks for doing this series! It's great to see, what artists are using to create their sounds. I haven't found anything like Rig Rundown, anywhere else.....and it's appreciated. I hope next year is even better than this one!
Saw this dude come on stage once with the same $325.00 Epiphone hollow guitar I had in my collection and just killed it. Loved it because my cheaper price hollowbody Epiphone's and Ibanez's AF series with different smooth medium jazz gauge strings are my favorites.
I love that casino is his guitar of choice! I’ve played one for years and live they’re fun to play, if you can get it set just right, wow it’s like a wild animal, biting tone, great feedback, nice and light, comfortable neck!
Always loved casinos. Picked up his signature model a few years back also pushed me into Gary’s Music more and have most of his albums, great player and comes across as very humble.
you guys really investigate the artist's preferences, tastes and reveals what makes their tone so unique, in terms of equipment obviously. Thanks again and please keep doing it!
I l8ke the way he keeps the equipment simple and uses the few pedals to enhance rather than dominate his unique sound . Guitar tech has a perfect calm demeanor that helps a lot.
Gary Clark jr. about his guitars 2015: "I'm not messin' around." Rory Gallagher in the 90s: "Blues players don't mess around with the guitar, they hit the bloody thing."
I saw him play in 2013 for the first time. He played the red Chinese casino and it was a complete musicgasm. Not too much of the sg fan but I love whatever he plays!
I looked up this rig because I recently bought a Fender Excelsior amp; playing my Warmoth all mahogany LP with Gibson burstbucker 2's it really really sounded like GC Jr. Plugged straight in with the amp all the way up...of course.
I really love this guitar but I used a Strat on most of the "soulful funk groovy" songs in the album! The other guitars the SG is "kinda turning out to be one of my favorite guitars"....but I like to look at the 'black 'n' blue'.....do I really like the hollow bodies now???
Yeah man I noticed that too. A custom shop Strat and vintage Gibson SG both are worlds apart from an Epiphone. Not saying they are bad guitars but to me not the same level as the other too.
Premier Guitar can’t believe someone’s rhythm guitarist would be a prick about someone wanting to show off his gear and publicize him for thousands of people with minimal effort put in. Wow
Jimsy Ever notice big time guys find the best stuff i search second hand shops all the time to find crap. The man told me the other day "Man no one uses tube amps any more" Yea i guess so cash pawn America.
Still Supro just keep looking man youll find something. Ive picked up a 78' ibanez challenger (strat copy) for $70 and a pre-cbs 64' fender vibrochamp for $50. You just gotta keep lookin.
Uhh does the Flint have spring reverb? Thought it was a straight shot between three decades? I know you can change the decay and color, but its more for just tone and wetness.
people on here talking about gary using "just an epiphone" ...yeah he always used a vintage 60s epiphone, worth the same as a gibson.. blak and blu model is just his signature now. (same with james bay)
I wish I could hear from Gary's mouth what is "the perfect fuzz pedal/sound" in his mind. To me his fuzz sound was mindblowing when I first found his music. I even thought I should quit on my Big Muff and try to buy an Analogman, but then again he changes his fuzz constantly, so it's hard to know what he is using at the moment.
He didn't use this guitar for the song healing. He used a Gibson SG Les Paul with Humbuckers. Look it up. Gary Clark Jr. - The Healing (Live At Arlyn Studios)
What amplifier should I buy to make it sound as close as possible to garys sound? I have just bought a epiphone casino and now want to buy a amp. Also pedal, how much does it matter?
Sterkan93 If money’s not an issue, his actual amp is a Fender Vibro-King (saving to get one myself), and for the added fuzz, I’m a fan of the Walrus Audio Jupiter V2. Boss BluesDriver is also never a bad choice for overdrive.
Does anyone remember a black and white poster from the late 70s, early eights that had an old, old man playing an Epiphone where his secret to living well and long included playing an Epiphone?
I opened for Gary Clark Jr a few years ago in Dublin Ireland...

I forgot your name! You were awesome that night dude! Cheers for a great show!
+Clive Barnes love your playing man!
Clive Barnes i
That’s great to read. I’m just learning to play guitar. When I want to be entertained, I watch this guy.
Seems like everything Gary owns was a gift. He is obviously loved dearly by the ones he surrounds himself with. That is typically a sign of a good human being.
Or freeloader 😆

+Daetwan Williams I love how you totally ignored my point. Anyway, greetings.
+Gabo Palacios i think my point in my original point was what you missed. cheers to you
+Daetwan Williams Nope, your point is this: people who criticize Gary should realize he's playing arenas, hanging out with supermodels, etc. Right? I love that he plays Epiphone's.
Me too!🤘🎵🎶🤘 I love my , Epiphones!
Nick Valensi from The Strokes also uses an Epiphone
I love that I MYSELF play epiphone's :D ...one of the greatest guitars on world ;)
@@StricklandPropane3 hey, fellow strokes fan :) I really wish they'd rerelease his riviera
@@moonsmonsters hello!! here’s hoping maybe they give him a Signature model in the future 🤘😄
Gary seems so nice and professional, It feels so good to see that in a person. May he have a long professional career and a good life.
Man, a gift of a great Strat, a gift of a great SG, a gift of a very unique amp - I have the wrong friends, I guess.
My second and third guitars a Fender Player Telecaster and Epiphone Casino were both gifts I got for my birthday from my friends, I could never afford those guitars myself but they could, knowing that they bought those for me on 2 different occasions
Lol I feel you
Gary is such a great performer. Music needs more players like him.
The man hired Tony Hawk as a guitar tech. What a legend
He actually does look like Tony, you're right
Thanks for doing this series! It's great to see, what artists are using to create their sounds. I haven't found anything like Rig Rundown, anywhere else.....and it's appreciated. I hope next year is even better than this one!
Dave is one of the best techs I've seen on these series
I hope to someday meet and perform on the same stage with the amazing talented artist!
Great artist and band, I love how chill they are. The guitar tech is super mellow as well. 🙏
This is his number 1, and this is his number 1, and this used to be his number 1, and this is number 1.3.
gotcha !! 😝😝👍
came for gear, stayed for chilling vibe

Gary reminds me of Jimi in not only his playing but also how he’s so reserved when talking and how he describes things
you guys really investigate the artist's preferences, tastes and reveals what makes their tone so unique, in terms of equipment obviously. Thanks again and please keep doing it!
I love Gary Clark he's a great musician and singing artist he's also a cutie pie,
I l8ke the way he keeps the equipment simple and uses the few pedals to enhance rather than dominate his unique sound . Guitar tech has a perfect calm demeanor that helps a lot.
how high is he in this video?
+German Martinez yes
+German Martinez Doubt it. the guy is super straight. Pretty "high" for a straight guy.
My colleague met the guy once, ( in 2011) he was smoking a joint and was high out of his mind lol
+Kate Andrews HA! You're an idiot, guy is high as fuck. Trust me, he is not straight. Ive smoked with him before..
+German Martinez He seems tired not stoned.
Gary Clark jr. about his guitars 2015: "I'm not messin' around."
Rory Gallagher in the 90s: "Blues players don't mess around with the guitar, they hit the bloody thing."
I have this wicked urge to smoke a joint for some reason.....
I love how minimal his pedal setup is.
Nice that he use Epiphone Casino.
I have an Epiphone semi hollow - but the 335 type, also with Gibson pups on it, I love that guitar
For anyone who has not tried a Gibson SG, or maybe any SG type model guitar... you NEED to try it. They are amazing guitars, light and powerful.
I’ll have to check one out.
I've been waiting for this to surface!
Was expecting to see a La Machine on the pedalboard. Amazing artist and killer tones on his albums.
I saw him play in 2013 for the first time. He played the red Chinese casino and it was a complete musicgasm. Not too much of the sg fan but I love whatever he plays!
thats so cool that Dave is wearing a Belly Up shirt... love that place
I WAS LITERALLY LOOKING FOR THIS LIKE 2 HOURS AGO LOLOL

p-90s are such great pickups.
Amazing set! Casino is the best guitar ever! That 61 got a terrific honey colour!
gotcha...
That '66 Casino is one of the coolest goddamn guitars I've ever seen.
Holy shit, 0.11 and he bends like crazy...
PLEASE TELL ME you did a foo rundown too while you were there?!?!
+Zachary Morrison thats exactly what I said when I saw this.
Gary is awesome ,humble and great hearted guy..a true artist..
I fucking love Gary. he's made it huge still plays an epiphone gangster
3star2nr James Bay also does
because they sound great and there are options out of the box that Gibson doesnt have. quality instrument.
Nick Colionne too
he always used a vintage 60s epiphone, worth the same as a gibson.. blak and blu model is just his signature now. (same with james bay)
Is that the model? Epiphone Gangster? Lil wayne sig?
gotcha~~ gotcha~~ gotcharrrrrr
andeyo!
How damn cool is this cat. Love him!
Whats the guitar at 11:20 :O
Great player. Cool cat. Saw Gary at a Bridge Show.
Very cool, just found this and makes me want to head back to Austin. so laid back
He really got some cool guitars !! :)
awesome bluesman !
Yeah! So awesome of a blossom!!!!
Dave seems like an awesome dude.
Would love to see a rig rundown with The Band of Heathens.
I really love this guitar but I used a Strat on most of the "soulful funk groovy" songs in the album! The other guitars the SG is "kinda turning out to be one of my favorite guitars"....but I like to look at the 'black 'n' blue'.....do I really like the hollow bodies now???

Dude gets a lot of gifts!
...as a kite
King Zapata gear rundown would be nice. He's the man.
+Roto Sphere We tried to get him or his tech on camera but they didn't want his gear to be shown or discussed.
+Premier Guitar I'm glad you tried. He's exceptional and heavily underrated.
Premier Guitar can’t believe someone’s rhythm guitarist would be a prick about someone wanting to show off his gear and publicize him for thousands of people with minimal effort put in. Wow
I was at the July4th festival with him and the Foos!
What's the vibrato on that SG? It's beautiful
Found in a pawn shop in London? Which one? Would like a visit!
Jimsy

Balling guitar collection
bought a used casino to resell and was very surprised... for $400, it may be the best guitar ive played within that price range
Did i get it right, that the wah is last in his chain?
Uhh does the Flint have spring reverb? Thought it was a straight shot between three decades? I know you can change the decay and color, but its more for just tone and wetness.

God what a collection of axes
Gary is the man!
pat smear is the man. always popping up somewhere.
You can hear Dave Grohl in the back ground during the tech bit
What song was in the intro???
Does anybody know what kinda strap is on the black and blue casino?
THATS MY GUITAR TOO AND I LOVE IT
Great info
I wish I could hear from Gary's mouth what is "the perfect fuzz pedal/sound" in his mind. To me his fuzz sound was mindblowing when I first found his music. I even thought I should quit on my Big Muff and try to buy an Analogman, but then again he changes his fuzz constantly, so it's hard to know what he is using at the moment.
I really love gary clark jr. I ilove his style..
He has great taste
He didn't use this guitar for the song healing. He used a Gibson SG Les Paul with Humbuckers. Look it up. Gary Clark Jr. - The Healing (Live At Arlyn Studios)
Gotta love the gold Rolex Daytona on his wrist, too.
I want that strap, who makes it?
pretty cool. i was at this show.
Make it again please!!
wouldn't be surprised if that guitar tech was a serial killer when not touring
winslow wong yeah that dude was really weird.
Hey guys, what's the name of the song right at the beginning of the video, that goes something like "heyyy, is that you outside my head ?"
Thanks :)
+Filipe Pestana It's "Cold Blooded" off his newest album 'The Story of Sonny Boy Slim.'

what are those shoes he's wearing?
That 330 is not a late 50s model. Most likely a '68 or '69 based on the higher neck join.
whats that intro song? thanks
+Benjamin Ang It's "Cold Blooded" off his newest album 'The Story of Sonny Boy Slim.'
when are you guys doing one on the foo fighters?
oooooooooo i wish i had an sg all i have an s35 acoustic but i love it too
Wah last? Interesting choice!
Gotcha!
Just watched GCJR perform as part of the lineup for Joe Walsh VETSAID 2017 Concert. Thanks for the support to us vets.
Will you be doing the foo fighters?
This man rules
He failed to mention that besides the Gibson pickups these are also fitted with Grover’s. Way better than the stock on casinos.
vocal mic?
What's the into song?
Does anyone remember a black and white poster from the late 70s, early eights that had an old, old man playing an Epiphone where his secret to living well and long included playing an Epiphone?
Jeeesus I jumped off the couch when he screamed HEEYYYYY
the wha is before or after fuzz and overdrive ?
AMP-OD-FUZZ-WAH-GUITAR
i like how every single guitar tech uses cargo shorts
Give the Fulltone Ultimate Octave a go, Gary.
I dig it the most.
