I love how blues players can’t just call equipment by its normal name😂😂 they’re always like “ Got this Fiddel from Norms guitars and she purs. Plug her into this creamy sweet noise maker and she just sings when I play my tunes!!!”
Same thing with jazzers, the other day I walked up to some teenager working a venue and said “hey man, what’s the deal with this joint? It’s got some mojo”. Kid had no idea what I was asking, bass and sax player got a kick out of the interaction tho 😂
@@mbsnyderc yea but it’s the foundation for his entire sound. He is first and foremost a blue player. But, if you know anything about the blues, which you obviously do, it only takes about 45 seconds of a live performance to realize he’s the god damn whole bag of tricks lol
That’s what sets people like them apart from the rest of us mere mortals. Guys like me play guitars and amps and pedals… The cats imbue wire and wood with soul.
Literally SRV 2.0. His demeanor, humbleness, insane guitar chops, soulful voice and killer song writing hasn't been seen since we lost Stevie. One of the best musicians alive right now and he's young. Looking forward to decades of Marcus King
100% agreed, they’re my favorite type of Les Paul. I’d gone to a show last year where he used it on Rescue Me and absolutely crushed it on slide, it was a total showstopper.
I'm die hard Clapton devotee and last fall my wife surprised me to go see him in Nashville. It was a great show and then for the encore he brought Marcus out to jam with him and I went crazy and everybody around me was like "who is that guy???" and I was like "that's Marcus King and he's a BEAST!" It was a great moment and I'm sure Marcus was in hog heaven up there jamming with Clapton.
I love how Marcus really puts Soul into his chops man. It's not something you see as much nowadays. It seems the technical aspect overtakes the true feeling of the guitar player sometimes.
I could listen to this guy play all day. I love to listen to live performances of his band, but the produced albums, I just can't get into. They are missing all the magic. Someone please produce a fantastic live album! Keep Rockin Marcus!
Although the studio albums ARE good, as much as I hate to, cannot disagree with this statement. No one has yet to capture the mojo/feel of his live performances with any real authenticity as of yet. Hopefully soon. On a side note, Marcus is one of the coolest down-to-earth artists I've ever met; and I've met quite a few over the years working as a contractor for local venues here.
To those that have yet to see Marcus Kings live you need to. The man absolutely shreds. From the MKB to his solo stuff. Him and his band melt your brain every time!
I've seen him live once (in my hometown!!) and I have tickets to see him again next march. But I made a promise to myself to go see him live EVERY chance I get 'till the day I'll kick the bucket.
Great to see a young gifted player keeping the 70's (blues)rock idiom alive. He has superb feel and technique, and a lovely vintage rocktone. I'm a tad biased as I play a Orange tubeamp myself.
Been a fan of this kid since about when he got on the scene. I remember being blown away by that voice. Then seeing him on Jam in the Van had me sold. Luckily, I got to see him open up for Tedeschi Trucks and watch them perform together at the end. And funny enough, he played a concert with Brent Hinds of Mastodon doing Black Sabbath covers. It should still be on RUclips somewhere.
Mick Jagger told this story in an interview that he called Charlie Watts his drummer, Charlie got dressed went to Mick's room and punched him in the face and said I'm not your fucking Durmmer or anybodys drummer, I'm a drummer. GRINS.
What a great young picker. I'm 66 and have been playing since age 8. I'm actually not that into distorted guitar anymore, but occasionally. Anyhow, very fun to nerd out on all his gear. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who ONLY nerd out on gear, and don't practice and grow their skills. But Marcus obvious doesn't have that problem. Congratulations on your success buddy.
Saw him in Byron Bay Bluesfest (Australia) last Saturday. Kingfish was there, Eric Gales was there, Buddy Guy the legend (now 86) was there, and so was Joe Bonamassa; among other great players. It was a night full of great music. It was fun!!!
Another awesome rig rundown with John B! What an amazing player and wonderful personality! I’ll definitely be catching Mr Kings show if and when he makes it to the SF Bay Area!
I was at the Thursday night show and it was also amazing! Had a total fan boy moment walking down Broadway before the Marcus King show and saw Bohlinger playing at Layla's Honky Tonk. Made my wife take my pic with John in the background. I'm such a guitar nerd.
Is there a more charming man in the world? This guy's a gen-u-wine country boy through and through and one hell of a player. I hope he thinks about getting healthy soon. We cannot lose Marcus King.
I really enjoyed this episode! Marcus King not only plays great, he's got the right gear, the looks as well as talks just like the old school guitar heroes of yesteryear. Can't wait to see what he does next. Also, I need one of those Orange 8x10 cabs. Wouldn't mind the MK Ultra either.
Recently started listening to his music after watching the previous rig set up video last week and got damn I’m hooked. This kid can play, sing. He’s making incredible music
First time seeing MKB was 10 yrs ago at the handle bar in Greenville SC. Was in the front bar area real close and personal! I had no clue who he was even!! He spoke To me and my date! Was first date and was looking for live music, and Handlebar had Marcus King playing!!! I was fukn amazed that the small bar area was full with Marcus King band was so up close and personal!!! He didn’t skimp on the music cause it was a small gig, there was Horns and it was full on get up!!! THAT DAY FORWARD BEEN A HUGE FAN !!!!!
7:10 This cat is great, and I esp. love that he describes necks with "sweet as pie". I have a pet-peeve for the expression "plays like butter" as it makes me just want to wash my hands. LOL
got an email from a mate in indiana "y'gotta check out the marcus king band - he and the band are fantastic". he let me know cos he heard they were town (melbourne) and i hotfooted it to book tickets - and saw the band last night. WOW... what a gig!
I really wasn't that familiar with Marcus until recently, but man, the dude is a tasty player! I hope his success continues, as the music scene needs all the help it can get with the garbage that is being put out as music.

GTFO he doesn't sound anything like SRV
*Hendrix. Stevie was majorly influenced by Hendrix and Marcus king was influenced by freddie king, hendrix, srv, and others
2.0 means better version. There is only 1 SRV. There’s never been a better
i think his southern charm adds to his whole old school ambience, seems like a solid dude, that 58' gibson at the beginning is a beauty
100% agreed, they’re my favorite type of Les Paul. I’d gone to a show last year where he used it on Rescue Me and absolutely crushed it on slide, it was a total showstopper.
His transition from note to note is the smoothest i may have ever heard. Seems like a good hang too.
You should hear him play slide! 😅
Seems like a good hang? Dear oh dear. The endless dumbing down of language.

What a down to earth guy! Saw him last month, and it was a great show. Stellar playing and tone!!
His tone his mediocre and boring.

The Greenville SC legend. Saw his dad playing downtown last week and you can tell it runs in the family. Really happy to see him killing it like this.
Marcus King is the King of Tone ! Smoking player and such a humble nice dude to boot ! Great rundown !
Marcus is one of the, if not greatest, young musicians and artist out

"Scofield in a box"...I have major respect for the young king
Whatever fuzz he was using in that opening riffage is gnarly AF.
Marcus has a great sense of humor. Enjoyed the the video, thanks.
Seeing him tonight and look what comes out. What a nice surprise.
Dang, I love Marcus King's feel and skill. Followed him for so many years.

That ES-345 sounds killer. Nowhere near my type of guitar but man it rocks!
I love when they play us through all their gear, Marcus is great!
man! since the teaser I’ve been dying for this one to come out! Love his playing but he sure can sing amazingly aswell! 🎸🎸

You can tell he has some strong jazz fundamentals. What an incredible style. Big fan.
His second album is very jazz infused you should check it out
Great player and a super humble kid. Love it
I love the “I only played on my dad and g dads old guitar” then “here’s my g pas guitar” pulls out a Gibson Es-335
It's amazing the musical content that is displayed just in this rig run down.
