    🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

I'm a huge fan but disappointed that Durban was left out, or any mention of the influence SA Indian food has on SA. Durban has the largest population of Indians outside of India in one city. We have been here for generations and consider ourselves South African and a part of the culture. This makes me question what other omissions you make in other videos.

I'm from Durban, South Africa, which is also one of the main cities and I speak to the Indian community when I say I'm deeply sad that we didn't get to host and feed you. Especially a good real Durban bunny chow and all the snacks. When you do return, please allow us to host you.

I remember in Zim, my dad went hunting and they got a kudu, for thehorns and the meat. most of it was given to the tribesmen at the hunting grounds, but biltong was left to dry in the sun, and he came back with literally 20 kilos of the stuff. I brought literal sticks of it to school and it was my rugby team's hangover before game breakfast of champions. I swear, we as teens were always wondering how much biltong is too much, well that time we found out. we literally got sick of biltong for like 6 months lol

Hi Sonny. You have become a very popular (and also famous) person with your immensely satisfying food review show. It is always a pleasure watching your shows, especially for the fact that you seem to remain humble and appreciative of the people and their cultures. You're also a pretty funny dude. That does make a difference. Thank you for visiting my home country (South Africa). I did not see you trying any samoosas. There are many many people in my Country who make those REALLY well, also routes, also so many different "potjies" and braais, etc, etc. There is so much more to enjoy. Please return again. One thing you have to say about us South Africans: WE LOVE OUR MEAT!
I think a lot of South African cuisine is kind of the same, but also every ethnic/geographical group have their own special and unique way of making it and then of course each of us have a few dishes that are just completely unique to that ethnic group. Nevermind segregation, talk about INTEGRATION!
Absolute amazing show of so our heritage within less than two hours!
PS: Kallit (coloured) from Namaqualand in the Northern Cape here. You made a massive curve towards the opposite sides of the country and missed us up here towards the northwest border of the country! And yet I still feel included as a South African.. Those are my people and that is our food!

    • @Slinkx
      @Slinkx 6 месяцев назад

Boet!......You're right about the meat. I live in the Eastern Cape on a small holding just outside East London. There is a farm not to far from me with some nice cows. I walk passed them and my mouth waters.

Did you also notice that other part of South African culture coming through so strongly? Boozing it up! SAB South Africa's biggest killer by far and one of the main reasons for our poverty and low productivity. Especially when done on a Monday morning. You want to know why we are so poor and China is so rich? Because they don't do that on a Monday morning.

I sometimes find it difficult to explain to my foreign students when they ask about South African "cuisine", because we are so diverse here and everyone brings their magic to the table. Sorry that Durban was left out and the infamous Cape gatsby, lol. But there was a clear theme to the video and well presented. I'll recommend it to my students when they talk about South African cuisine again.

You're a good man, Sonny... I was in a deer stand at the age of 15. A doe and buck came out of the wood line, and when I squeezed the trigger, I hit it right in the heart. It was a good, clean kill. I really felt bad watching the zebra limping, and you made sure it was done and over for the thing. I hate seeing anyone or anything in pain. Tell any animal that you're thanking it after you kill it to eat, and also, don't kill any animal unless you plan on eating it.

Honestly the best video ever. Lol maybe I'm biased because I'm South African as well. You really did only scratch the surface on what South Africa has to offer but done it brilliantly. I feel it was a missed opportunity not to do the most prominent culture of each province and should definitely have add durban and the South African Indian culture and their influence as well. But overall amazingggggg video 😊😊

Nothing wrong with hunting as long as you utilize everything of the animal

Exactly!! I know a lot of people who hunt and get criticism for it, but they use every part of the animal they can.. if anything, the hunters have more respect for the animals they go for.

Sonny, what you did going out with game farmer brothers to give the buffalo meat to that local community is so special and seeing those farmers seating and eating food cooked there is unifying and not common with farmers. You played an amazing part and is what SA still needs to heal and bridging the separation gap.Never undermine that and that community will never forget you.Thank you

Omg Sonny❣️ Thank you for the work you do. It allows us to be able to travel through your eyes. Most of us will NEVER be able to experience the blessings you have received. Food is such a bonding experience. And like most people like myself will never know the blessings you have received from other countries and people. Im very happy I'm able to learn through your eyes and experiences. I pray one day I/ we my family and I can experience some of the places you have gone! I have made a promise to myself to take my family on some of your adventures. The Faroe Island was soooo intriguing that I now made it a personal goal or bucket list to accomplish. Sonny whether you know it or not you give me purpose. I now have a reason to work my ASS OFF TO BE ABLE TO HELP MY FAMILY EXPERIENCE THESE BLESSINGS. PLS DONT STOP WHAT YOUR GIFTED AT. AND I TO HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO GET MY DRINKING UNDER CONTROL.
    FOOD+FAMILY+ LOVE= MEMORIES
    THANK YOU SONNY

This is a brilliant documentary that deconstructs South African society through food. Understanding the history, ingredients, and cooking techniques offers valuable insights into South Africa's cultural, social, and economic complexities.
Shared culinary experiences help break down barriers and promote dialogue among different communities.
Well done Mr Sonbuchner and crew.

I've been on a bit of a binge of your videos lately and I'm in love!! You and the team bring these various cultures to us, most of whom will likely never experience them and it's brilliant. Also, your handling of difficult topics is superb, as you treat them all with respect and care.
As for the Zebra, fantastic shot!!! 250m or 275yd is not always easy, especially with wind and shrubbery. Don't feel guilty about the first shot, the nerves get to you and it makes it all difficult (unless you're a professional hunter in which case it diminishes over time). In German its called Jagdfieber. I love that you also actually ate it, which unfortunately doesn't always happen. Waidmannsheil from Germany!!
South Africa seems to be the country for me... meat everywhere🤤!!

    Hi Sonny,
I love your content. as a South African I'm truly amazed at the diversity here, the fusion of foods, and cultures. im from a coasstal city called Durban I now live in Johannesburg... the one thing that I wished you added to this tour was a trip to Durban to try out our Indian Influenced unique Fish Curry, and our famous Bunny chow (hollowed out loaf of bread with lamb, chicken, prawn of veg curry) well us Indians love to make currry out of everything like Lamb Trotters and sugar beans, sheep stomach with peas, sheep head Curry etc... im no a fan of offalss but nose to tail is the best way. Maybe you could do a coastal African experience from Mozambique to Port Elisabeth since you have done the Cape.
