My mother doesnt speak english so i am going to translate what she asked me to as this video is all the rave back home. I am living in Canada and my phone with the family group chat hasn't stopped buzzing since this video came out. My mother and her family and many others from Jaffna wants to thank you two personally for showing the Nallur Kovil festival and our food culture in such a beautiful and positive way. According to her even the NATIONAL channel of Sri lanka has never shown this. No one, even from our own country has ever shed a light on our festivities like this. We are really proud of this video. Jaffna has been through really dark times and we still suffer from severe ptsd. This video has given us so much love, light and positivity. Thank you Sir and Madame for showing Jaffna the love and kindness it truly deserves.

So much work has gone into this prodution. What an amazing and beautiful series. Working and learning video proudction with Sonny and his team has been such fantastic experience. Thank you so much. Sri lanka is a melting pot of different cultures and the food is the by product of a happy marriage between all. Sonny and his team arrived just two weeks after severe protests in the country and things were moving very slow as the island was not yet fully opened. There is more to see and more to experience in terms of food and culture. Each direction of the country have their own unique culinary experince and how i wish Sonny and his team could have stayed longer.. but we did have some serious fuel issue at the time too. Now however everything is getting back to normal and we hope to see you all coming in to experiencing our beautiful and magical island with absolutely delicious cuisine. The culture, the food and just everything about Sri Lanka while I was there has been one of the most unforgettable and amazing experiences I've ever had. I'm happy that there is a Sri Lankan restaurant near me where I can experience a portion of the amazing food I had there and I hope to go back soon. I miss this country and everything about it so much

Im Malaysian, extreme happiness from 27:40 to 32:00. My grandparents are from Jafna, we have visited the village once and to be honest we did leave our hearts behind. Sri Lanka is truly a land like no other.
Sri Lanka is a beautiful place. Some of my most nicest and generous friends are from Sri Lanka. They give without even thinking whether they are getting anything back or not. It didn’t matter if we were the same people or not they always greet you with a smile and the most humble welcoming gesture. Most generous with their food. They rather you eat and they go without. There is a special place in my heart for my Sri Lankan friends.

I watched the whole 1hr and 10 minutes video and it's awesome and great work. I am so happy to see social media influencers like you making these amazing videos to build up great messages about a country like Sri Lanka. I really enjoyed your work and as a person who lived in Sri Lanka for 27 yrs of my life, I learned new things about Sri Lanka which I never knew before thanks to your video. In the meantime, I have a small critique, Throughout the 1hr and 10-minute video, I didn't see any Sinhalese style cuisine, Ruzaina mentioned there specifically, Sinhalese cuisine is what makes Sri Lankan cuisine unique, But sadly I didn't see any. Although Sinhalese are the majority in the country, in South Asia, Sinhalese are a minority ethnic group and their food is rare and unique.

Thank you so much for coming to Sri Lanka and showing a glimpse of what we have in store for tourists.
As she kept on saying this used to be a beautiful country and we've gone through so many things together, I lost my classmates and few other girls of my school due to the easter attack, then I lost so many teachers and nuns known to me at school due to the pandemic. with hopelessness we kept on moving and then due to corrupted government of the country and the barbaric regime we lost our 3 meals, continuous power cuts, no transport, no school, no sanitary pads. The nuns at the hostel asked us to use clothes as sanitary pads as the prices has risen and no more affordable. Amidst all these we still keep on moving hoping that it'll turn better, and the corruption will lessen than it is now.
My goodness I had no idea, how sad the ppl from Sri Lanka had to go thru all of that jeez.
I will definitely, definitely be praying for the ppl.

Sri Lanka has lavishly aromatic and spicy cuisine. For the real Sri Lankan food experience, if you ever visit the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, try visiting an authentic Sri Lankan kitchen. You will see different types, of the most aromatic herbs, chili powder, peppers, cinnamon, more spices & etc. Their dishes are the richest since they are cooked with coconut milk, there are also plenty of vegetarian dishes as well. And the crazy part? They all serve a purpose and used for a specific dishes added upon a specific time. Don’t you ever suggest to the cook, those spices are interchangeable. That is the uniqueness of Sri Lankan food.

As a malay malaysian, im really suprise to hear some familiar words tht then sri lankan malay still use like dodol = a kind of sticky toffee made from coconut and usually a festive food , babat ( cow skin if in malaysia but intestine in sri lankan malay).
Also, i can see alot of similarities with sri lankan food with malaysian food. Like the roti ( roti canai in malaysia) , that coconut sambal ( we have something similar called serunding), that yellow broth shrimp dish ( we have something called masak lemak, where the ingredients are the same and different proteins could be added.), and the string hoppers ( idlis by the indian community in malaysia. )
Food do travel all over the world.. We should celebrate this interculture mix between us. ❤

OK this series is right up there with the Iran series. I think having Ruzaina on it really made it pretty magical to watch. Her love for her country just seeps out of every pore of her body. It was beautiful to experience Sri Lanka through her eyes. Thanks for sharing another incredible series.
i Love your shows and for me this is one of the best yet. The variety of people, places and cuisines in one nation is just wonderful - and Ruzaina is an absolute joy! Full of fun and happiness - and play you at your own entertaining game. And what a family of chefs she belongs to, long may the fusion of Sri Lankan and Malay food continue. It's made me even more determined to visit that incredible island one day.

Sri Lanka is one of the best countries for what it has to offer, nature wise or food wise. Speaking about the Sri Lankan food, its another level!!! I am from Italy and I have been in few other countries, but Sri Lankan food is just WOW! More than anything, they have very healthy foods such as Jackfruit in this video, and it's also little bit difficult to find these 'healthy' type of vegetables from street food vendors or they just add a ton of oil.
My fav foods are: Kottu, String Hoppers, Hoppers, Uludu Wade, Isso Wade, Rolls, Rice with Coconut Sambol, Milk rise with lunu miris 😍😍😍 (this is just a short list)

After watching this amazing video, I do feel like I could easily become vegan if I lived there. As Sonny said, here in the States, we tend to think of bread and salad... What a gorgeous country!
If u can prioritize on flour mainly its easy to live as a vegan, 2 main flour types are rice flour and bread flour (i dont know the exact terminology but when translate the native words thats basically the gist of it) and the different is rice flour based rotti, stringhoppers, hoppers, or any design will have less bloated effect (and also some spices are included in curries to have a better digestion) indian vegetarian cousine mix with sri lankan vegetarian cousine will easily make u full time vegetarian if ur for it
@@shohanranasinghe4403 Thank you so much for sharing! While not a vegan(my daughters are strict) I do see the importance of a variety of healthy foods and they don't have to be un-palletable to digest.
@@GD-xj3jd good to see ur daughters embracing being vegan, I’m not the one to come to conclusions but I think states even though there are vegan food places, vegans are being mocked to stop the trend because it might cause problems for butchers and slaughter houses and farms, I think earlier world didn’t have many options but now I think eggs can be made using a stimulant where the egg doesn’t hold any life and also through soya beans which protein vegetable can be made into vegan meats, cutlets etc.

This was so amazing to watch! I wish that Aunty Doreen would share her recipe for the beef tongue with us. I'm Mexican-American, and tacos de lengua is one of my favorite dishes. I'd love to try something new with beef tongue! :D
