Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

YES, this is a repost.
RUclips removed the original video after it had already amassed 2 million views.
The reasons are complicated, boring and dumb, but I’ll explain.
We used some footage from a channel that labeled it as “Creative Commons” meaning anyone can use it in their edit.
Then we got a copyright strike on the channel for using that footage.
It turns out, the footage we used wasn’t Creative Commons. Some RUclips channel had just reloaded this footage and labeled it as such.
Sadly, this means youtube’s Creative Commons labeling system is useless, because anyone can just load someone else’s footage and label it as such.
So, in order not to waste our extraordinary effort in making this video, we’ve reedited it, having taken out those handful of clips we’d used.
That said, the strike still remains on our channel. Fun, right?
The channel whose footage we inadvertantly used refused to make any type of licensing deal with us. Oh well. That’s their right.
Brand New Videos Coming Saturday!!!!
Thank you for your patience.
Classic RUclips.
We need a Sonny Chia-Head in the store. I'm serious.
Awesome production job BEFRS team!! 😎👍
Why post it as "Creative Commons"
I'll watch e.v.e.r.y video you upload

The best part about this channel is not even the bizarre food you eat it's the different cultures you see

Learned more in an hour about these islands than a whole history course. Great episode!
Sonny and his team managed to perfectly fuse culture and food, then present it in with a simple story line in an entertaining way.
I love these people.
There humour is beyond dry and subtle.
Scandinavians(Broad definition but true) will seem funny to a standard western person even if they aren't trying to be.
I love the vibe of the faroe people, the whole episode everyone was super friendly and chill, really makes me wanna go the faroes and have beer with these guys. Top Tier content.

I haven't got my free food yet😢
Right hasn’t this fella been on the travel channel basically took over after Anthony bordain passed
Right? he's like the Jesus Christ of culinary appreciativeness because who knows how much of this food has backfired on his stomach just for our personal gain, like the raw blood in africa for example Lol
Here before they change the "i" in bizarre to lower case. That's BIzarre
Lol would ya look at that
Haha +1, still 'BIzarre', we must keep continual record of this BIzarre anomaly for future historians
Lol I only see it now.. I think he will leave it.

I love blood sausage. 😋 My mom used to make it when we visited family in Romania. The family loved my mom's sausage. She learned how to make it from her Nana. I inherited the recipe books and cards from my mom. She passed away from cancer in 2015. There were only two things I brought home after she passed and one was the family cook books and cards. We made cooking journals as a family. Family members add new recipes with stories about the recipes and over time it becomes a journal of recipes. We even took pictures of new recipes and posted them in the book as a record. It kinda reminds me of a menu at a fancy restaurant. I blog recipes too because it's something I enjoy. I think it might be a genetic trait that my family has passed on. I might be the last family member to follow the old traditions too. Most of my mom's siblings have passed away from cancer. My brother doesn't care, he ran away with his two son's years ago. He has issues. I hope him and the boys are doing well. I miss them deeply. Food and music always brings people together. Sharing cultures is important for humanity to develop. ❤
I think it's very difficult for foreigners to judge how locals eat. There are lots of factors as to why we eat what we eat
It’s impossible unless you visit and try the local foods for yourself.
well u can't really judge other cultures cuisine if ur own culture is also eating extra ordinary. So if u find people judging about certain culture cuisine then they are ignorance.
@@binz7087 well at the end of the day its your decision if you wanna buy those products and eat it, its not that their forcing u to eat it. And also ur not getting my point. Read again, if keep saying nonsense then u belong to the type of people I mentioned
@@tryhrdbotcodm you seem to have a weird confusion about why eating endangered animals is bad.
@@AL-lh2ht I never say that its good/bad to eat a certain animals/insects/species/extra, what im saying is before criticizing them make sure that ur own culture or ethnicity doesn't eat any extra (not normal?) food too. Its like ur talking shit to a person bad grade but u urself also has a bad grade.
This video opened my eyes to an area of the world I had never heard about. And, the idea of drying and fermenting meat is unique! Sonny, you have a wild and interesting life!
Especially the whale hunting. I always hated it, because I only saw the pictures and videos of the slaughter. Now that I know the people and circumstances behind it, I might still don't like it, but I have no hard negative feelings towards it and the people doing it anymore.
This is one of my favorite episodes so far. Glad you got down to straightening out the controversies, and really getting to the heart of the life of the people. I appreciate your descriptions of the taste and smells and textures as well. You have just added one more place to put on my bucket list!
"There were many young men and patriots that said 'We will keep our tradition.' God only knows how badly we need that here in North America where so many live such privileged lives that they can complain about their reality despite it being in the top 1% of realities that anyone ever a part of our species has experienced, much respect from Canada!
This kid is a gift to the small islands. Seems like an awesome chef
I've been binging these recently and I have to say, I'm really impressed with the way they don't seem to overblow anything. Every situation seems fair and the treatment of everything from lobster flavor to whale hunting is given appropriate weight.
One of my favorite episodes. I've watched it 3 times so far. I love the sea which makes this episode fitting for me. Thanks Sonny.

Such hospitable people. A wonderful culture I’m glad that this was up on RUclips and everyone can get a glimpse on a unique and relatively unknown people that are actually trying to save the planet despite what others think.
Unknown people?.. what is this bad joke? these people are well known throughout the world for their monstrous slaughter of whales and above all for the cruelty in slaughtered thering them, mammals endowed with an extreme intelligence undoubtedly superior to many ignorant subhuman parasites that populate this planet and who unfortunately are even destroying, exactly like those who populate that island.🤬

I've watched this video three times. Once for the original upload and twice for this video. You've made me actually want to go to the Faroes.
I never thought I would enjoy anyone more than Andrew Zimmern but your channel is very entertaining
I lived in Iceland for almost a year (w/ the USAF) and both places have their similarities. BUT I have to admit, you produced a very interesting program on the Faeroe Islands (food-centered of course) which made me wish I'd traveled there. Maybe someday ... (There's a statue of a woman/seal skin - a Silkie? - which I'd love to see in person.) TY for an interesting, informative, and eye-opening travelogue. Your whale hunting, background, and personal views segment was very good. It provided some much-needed context on the subject as it pertains to the Faeroe Islands and its people. So, big compliment on that segment in particular.
This channel really deserves it's name. Best Ever Food Review Show indeed!

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
as a faroese person. I like this documentary how it explains our culture, our way of killing the whales is a tradition, we survived on it after little resources of food. It isn't beautiful, and may seem extreme, but in our culture we are grateful for the food, how it helped us survive, and we do try to make sure we only kill an amount as needed. Yes our kids are raised seeing the whales at sea, but they MUST be taught to kill the whales properly! most people are actually watching the fishermen who KNOW how to PROPERLY kill the whales instead of doing it themselves, like those who do not know how correctly kill the whales, don't help. They wait and watch and learn.
For this island, it's cool, no harm is done to ecology. For China, thinking about the whale population, I think they really don't need to kill them, like eat anything else, these giants need protection from these people...
If you only kill the needed amount, how is it possible that you dump whale meat into the ocean because you cant consume the amount you slaughtered? And how is killing an animal in such a brutal way the correct way? You dont even rely on whale meat to survive and on top of that its actually toxic to eat. Traditions dont justifiy cruelty.
If in the past the tradition of massacring whales and dolphins it is now anachronistic because the island is rich and survival is no longer a concern.
This is true Herr also about white tail deer. Harvested for food but many people only see Bambi. We rely on deer meat or venison every year and it also keeps the numbers stable so none starve to death ad they did in the past bc of overpopulation
My cousins in the island are so few that this is sustainable traditional justifiably alright to hunt grindhval.
Love frim big brother :) unconditional love from Iceland.. !yea! yea! ;)
