    Hi,
    at my trip from Germany to Croatia I did the 1.000 km with the EQV in 12h and 22 Minutes. And the car was fully loaded with my 5 family members and the luggage’s for the vacation. But the road conditions where almost perfect: Temperature between 7 and 18 degrees Celsius and almost no traffic. The only thing what slowed us a little bit down was passing the three borders.

    If you can test more electric vans, I think it would be interesting to see. The Peugeot e-Expert, Toyota Proace, Opel Zafira-e/Vivaro-e, Citroen e-SpaceTourer... whichever you can get. Maybe even the Fiat e-Ducato in the future. Or some of the smaller vans - the new Renault Kangoo Z.E., Toyota Proace City, Opel Combo-e, Peugeot e-Rifter. Most of them should be available this or next year. I would definitely watch these tests. It's something different than "normal" cars, but it's still relevant to many people.

    Really impressive time! It's by far your coldest 1000 km challenge, the biggest and roomiest vehicle you've tested and one of the most luxurious. And it achieved a good time that makes it very usable and practical. In summer it would easily be 2 hours faster, as air resistance is stronger in cold winter and this MPV is necessarily less aerodynamic than a saloon, thus cold temperatures impact is more important.

    This is very relevant to me, every year I drive from Yorkshire UK to the south of Spain. It’s 1500+ km each way. I currently use a diesel Vito, so want to see if my next car is a Vito or a VW Buzz.

    • @DG-uv3zw
      @DG-uv3zw 3 года назад +1

      Don`t forget how expensive it is to charge such a large, not aerodynamic EV like a van... Its crazy expensive to fast charge it compared to diesel...

    • @Robcomesana
      @Robcomesana 3 года назад +6

      IMHO keep the diesel for now. The EQV electric consumption on highway makes no sense for trips unless you live in a place with good fast chargers density (such as Norway) and need the whole room or seats of a van. If not, a regular electric car would be a much better option. However, try to delay your EV travels to Spain. The fast charging network is still on early stages and you can't find any options for many routes.
      I know diesel nowadays is considered something close to evil who eats unborn children for breakfast, but it's still one of the less bad options for long road trips. Of course, emissions are higher in diesel than in EV, but not very far if you consider the primary energy mix in Spain. Also, the high power charger costs are similar to diesel fuel cost per kilometer. And, when needing high amounts of power, such as in that 3 tons 100 kWh beast, diesel efficiency is not as bad related to EV as on a normal city car, where EV is clearly much, much better.
      So, long story short, I would advice to keep the diesel for now. I also have a diesel car for this kind of use and an hybrid for slower or city traffic. Just waiting for a good EV infrastructure that most likely will come in a few years. Then, I may consider to give a rest to the diesel 😬

    • @alfrredd
      @alfrredd 3 года назад

      @@Robcomesana This was done at -20°C degrees, which is insane. If you drive in summer(20/30°C) you will be able to do 1000km in 11:30-12:00 hrs. if you plan your charging stops perfectly.

    • @Robcomesana
      @Robcomesana 3 года назад +1

      @@alfrredd Sure, I agree completely. But, still, a vehicle so heavy with a big front area and not very refined Cx will have a very poor efficiency at highway speeds, both for diesel and EV. However, this penalty is higher in EV, because you have much less energy on-board and it takes much longer to "refill" it. Of course, I guess those 400 Wh/km won't be a summer average. Well, at least it shouldn't 😬
      PD: And, also, keep in mind the lack of EV fast chargers in Spain

    • @kompost1
      @kompost1 3 года назад +3

      In advance, Sorry for going all eco warrior.
      Don't go EV for the wrong reasons. Consumerism != environmentalism, even though the ads say otherwise.
      Use EVs for what they are good for.
      Buy used or rent a diesel for the cases it makes more sense.
      ICE cost of ownership is comparatively going up, and people will vote with their wallet.
      Of course, EQV will be able to take the trip, but it will hurt.

    You should not require the location of the cupholders too high. The higher they are, the higher the risk of spilling drinks. The same applies to the driver's head. The higher the position of the driver (head), the worse his condition and fatigue on a long trip. This is due to the amplitude of oscillations and neck fatigue. That's why drivers in Formula 1 sit almost on the ground,
    and still feel the increased loads during powerful accelerations and turns.

      @@Mega6981 have you put somewhere info/pictures with this? What insulation material you are using? Is this from construction shop or something special?

    26:00 not bad if compared to an I-pace which cost more or less the same, need approximately only 1h less for the 1000 challenge, and consume only about 20-30% less being a 5 seats car (considering the different temp of the 2 tests).
    But I don't understand why they couldn't provide this premium van with such a big battery a faster charger while Tesla has a 250kw on a cheaper model 3&Y.

    Is there a rom in the front for a webasto diesel heater. It would do wonders for the range.

    Bjorn. in a EQ model, if you put the charging station as your destination it will automatically pre-heat the battery for you by the time you arrive.

      Just like Audi, this is claimed by the manufacturer but it actually doesn't happen.

    Hi Bjorn, I own an EQV for about 2 weeks now and have an avarage usage of 26-29kw/100km. So I think the very cold weather stole a lot of energy? I wonder if you could do it again under normal conditions? I think that would save at least one stop for recharge and speed things up a lot.

    This is mad, basically same range as my eUp but 3x the battery😅
    Also insane considering how much more efficient 7 seater SUVs are compared to these V classes.
    Do you think we'll see more of these SUVs in the future instead of vans?

    • @AntonEMaes
      @AntonEMaes 3 года назад

      the vans will always suffer at high speed because of their square rear ends. Basically all of your aerodynamic losses happen at the rear of the vehicle.
      Sloping the rear down even a bit like on the SUVs can really cut drag. But we could also see a lot of aero tricks deployed to fill in that hole in the air behind the van.

    What does the red/grey fan to the right of the battery in the ICL display mean? Sometimes it is grey and some other times it is red.
