Megawatt charging system (MCS) is designed for 1250v up to 3000A. Completely insane speed.
Fun fact:MCS specifies charge port location as left side, between front and rear axle, just like that yellow truck at 12:58.
I want to see that plug that can handle 3kA you can put in a vehicle without using a forklift.
@@SupremeRuleroftheWorld The plug is a bit bigger than ccs, but not by a lot. However, the DC pins are a lot bigger, because MCS doesn't include AC charging.
@@b127_1 ccs is already huge and unwieldy compared to the tesla plug for example that can carry the same current. but i am more intereested in the weight of the whole thing. you still need a massive cable that can deal with 3kA and 1000V+ insulation.
@@SupremeRuleroftheWorld CCS cables already have 1000v insulation for 350kw charging, but for 3000a, it will probably mean more copper and mainly a lot better cooling. The vehicle side connector will have cooling as well.
@@SupremeRuleroftheWorld by the way: tesla plug uses the same pins for DC and AC charging. This seems to work well enough, but would you trust legacy automakers with this setup? Connecting pack voltage to mains power would definitely be an interesting experiment...
The truck charging station will be great for those EV owners who haul their caravan or a trailer behind their car - as it’s drive through there will be less hassle than at other charge places.
You will make a lot of angry truck drivers with your caravan. They are on a schedule, you are just going on vacation.
@@ArnaudContet not me! My little Mini Cooper S E couldn’t pull skin of a custard let alone pull a small trailer!
8:57 Yes, there are ”dragspelsbussar” in Göteborg from Volvo also.
Great thoughts about charging while sleeping. In the US, truck stops and rest areas are littered with trucks idling while their drivers sleep.
It’s seated there because Volvos headquarters are just beside the station
In the Norwegian cities Trondheim, Drammen and Bodø there are also electric buses from Volvo
You showed me very important information about preheating the battery. Thank you for that! It must have been an OTA, because before it only preheated when the charger was planned as a chargestop and not as destination.
hardest working car journalist
MCS (Megawatt Charging System) is the next generation standard for heavy duty applications.
CharIN is the organization responsible to coordinate the efforts.
General info:
Up to 3 MW charging power
Also Aviation Certified (AIR7357)
Available 2024
Nice to see that truck charging station and those ev trucks charging cool stuff
Did Bjorn just do a loud fluff @19:00 😆?
I would like Circle K to buy the UK and sort everything out over here.
We have Electric Volvo-busses in Trondheim
We have the volvo buses in Drammen, they are charging on 450 kW pantographs at the end stations :)
Nice graphics and information on the Mercedes screen, but a bit laggy?
Very handy for cars towing trailers / caravans. They usually have big problems at standard charging stations and have to uncouple and recouple the trailer each time they charge (which is very often - every 80 - 120 km usually)
yes - hopefully open to public but caravans/trailers/towing only
I hope those people disconnect their trailer or caravan. So those who drive trucks and can load. for they have times to suit. and then it is not so easy to find another loading space for a 24 meter long truck.
If that's poor I'd love to be poor 😅😂
Well you know, if I was sneaking charging at that charging location with my e-Golf maximizing at 40 kW 😊 and that yellow Volvo queing up behind - I would leave faster than you say banana box.
Gothenburg
Imagine if they would install chargers by apartments for those who live there and more chargers in general instead of this useless shit.
Well, even if this test car was not fully equipped, it’s still a Mercedes with all it advantages. And what I like especially with Mercedes (or BMW as well) you can order all the goodies or just the part you want to have, which is not possible at many other manufacturers. The customers can “customize” their cars as they want and are not forced to purchase packages which includes the desired feature, but also other stuff one don’t want to have.
Great stuff! 🎉
They can charge at 2x 350 kw, if you use both chargers, look at the location
It's illegal to eat lussekatt in october
So when do we find the first Renault Zoe bricking one of these chargers 🤣🤣
Renault ABC = Always Brick Chargers
Great "poor (business) man's" Mercedes!
Leaving the large battery offers plenty of range and sizable top and bottom buffers ensure cell longevity.
Infotainment demonstrates progress: there was a map update popup in the video and preconditioning works. Let's hope for some UI performance / anti-lag measures down the road.
Gets 5 NCAP stars as opposed to BMW i4.
High quality noise, vibration and heat insulation, solid suspension.
Maybe performance is not top notch, but 180 kW is decent.
Would be happy to own one.
Yeah, 180kW is more than enough for daily driving. I don't get why most EVs need so much horsepower.
Love the VAT. Without it, you would be stuck at 110km per hour max speed :) And you guys have 25% VAT tax, fantastic. We only have about 8% here in Nevada. :)
That should be MCS Megawatt Charging System
it‘s great if you have a trailer 👍
Does Norway has enough hydro electricity power plant to produce for future power station ?
the cable cooling could also be semi-passive, i.e. the cooling only switches on at a certain temperature.
Nope. If that was the case then the cooling would not have been throttled.
Bjorn do you think that Audi drivers will wind a wat block the stall also on this charger? 😂
I wonder if the Europe will standardize MSS plug for trucks, what North America has adopted.
great video
just need the VSS capable ip to 3mw I think....
drammen has a lot of the Volvo el busses
it´s good for caravans
We have volvo electric buss in drammen
Which would you prefer this car or iX 3 ??
Strange things are afoot, at the Circle K.
From your Perspektiv. Which is better the poor man’s Mercedes’ or the bmw i4 m40?
American me reading the 29,XXX kWh and taking a second to "recalibrate" my mind back to Europe. (Floating to a non-three decimal place helps.)
Future is coming 😁
very cool usa very lacking on change go Norway and Sweden lead the way on ev trucking
I really doubt they could passively cool something at 350 kW of power.
Kul att du besöker Sverige också. Chop c chop har bra mat. Äter mycket hellre där än mc donalds. Behöver knappt betala mer heller.
The price for power is at the Netherlands now 73cent per kw at fastchargers... Driving on eu95 is almost cheaper!!!!!!
*kWh
@@bjornnyland are you sure? We pay for a amount of energy, not for charging time. So, i would say 1000 watt of energy.
@@Blasterxp He's right. Watts are a measure of power. Watthours are power multiplied by time, thus energy. If you charge for 1 hour at 50 kW, you get 50 kWh of energy and pay 50 kWh * 0.73€/kWh = 36.50€. Expensive indeed!
@@gallium-68 Ah, now i understand. Ok!
Can’t wait for the Tesla Semi truck to arrive! It will revolutionize the trucking industry. The only truck that has a good Cd value and looks not like a brick on roads.
Perhaps this is why the aerodynamics are so shitty
colani truck has done that in the end of the 80s.
a guy who i know builds in europe ev trucks. they also made custom developments like the zerotracer.
volvo bought a 60% stack from them.
You have to wait, is’s not there yet.
o, shit. its not on the road yet? i remember a 2017 semi truck presentation! its on the road since 2019, just like the tesla rodster... 😄
The 'brick look' is dictated by the allowed dimensions for truck and trailer, the cubical shape simply serves to offer the driver as much room as possible. Recently EU ruling has allowed for slightly bigger cab sizes, the new Daf XG series is the first to profit from that. Don't be fooled, truck manufacturers put a lot of effort into aerodynamics nowadays. The Tesla truck will certainly not make it to Europe in it's current shape as it would not be usable here.
Charge normal, ABB 180 kW x 2 in Spain Zunder have this charger
Did they open it?
@@electricfelix yes, for car
@@robertoallende3630 Can you share the electromaps link?
@@electricfelix For example in Aldea, Delta de Ebro.
yea what do ABB really know about electricity 😂
Orange Thai chicken blood..😂
13:08 - 350 kilowatt? Is this grammatically correct? For example, Do you also say 350 kilometer or 350 kilometers?
It is correct. You don't use plural on units.
@@MaleLion. YOU ARE 100% WRONG!
You must use plural form regarding units!
1 mile but 2 miles
1 meter but 2 meters
1 volt but 2 volts
1 watt but 2 watts

so... how's the takeaway?
Ok
are u heating your home with an air conditioner unit?
It's called an heatpump
@@momatedise oo u mean the same thing like in my refrigerator? my question was not of a technical nature but whether he heats with it, i don't know the climatic conditions in norway
@@milanjordan these heatpumps are popular in the nordic countries to heat and cool your house with.
Yes
👍👍👍👍
Isn't it ironic to drive with a new German EV to a truck charge place while in Germany they not sure what is the future of truck power is and investing lot of money in test highway segments with trolley wires to power test trucks. 😣
why they do it is you can cut the battery pack size and no charging will be required. it is not a bad idea it is comon technology. for last mile delivery there are trucks from german manufactures.
@@Francis-yc9nc I think due to the fact that truck drivers had to keep break times and an max amount of driving hours, charging at the break points would be ideal in long distance logistics. Anyway we have here in Freiburg / Germany a public bus which is charging by trolley connectors, but only at a special bus stop.
hiclass volt food car 🙂
Mercedes doesn't do panel gaps like Tesla -> not good. 🤣
like this you mean?

A B T always copy Tesla!
First! Good morning!
second greetings from Romania
Are there Electric Hookers at the rest area? Electric truckers need electric Hookers right? Maybe a future Tesla Bot 🤖 💦
300A nominal only at 7:20 ?! What was Circle K thinking by choosing those crap Always-Be-Broken chargers which can't even output 500A continously? What a crazy waste of ressources for such slow chargers. Even with 800V this means only 240kW continous power which is insanely bad for trucks and **a lot** slower than the Ionity 350kW stations. Like *a lot*. Yeah there will be some minutes with 350kW (peak 500A) but trucks with such huge batteries will of course stay longer than some minutes. For me those are trash chargers and a waste of ressources. In some years no truck really will stop there for a short break.
If they want CCS2 and not MCS plugs they should rather have sticked to Alpitronic Hyperchargers. They can output 300kW continously without any current limit.
Edit: Ah later in the video Björn shows that shit due to missing cable cooling, what the hell.
I used to be a fan of electric cars but seeing this infrastructure and the massive batteries the cars and trucks have nowadays, I tend to lean more towards hydrogen innovation now… Might be interesting if you also focus on some hydrogen cars such as the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo.
Hydrogen is stupid. Its just too inefficient to be viable. Nobody is buying it without goverment subsidies. The real cost is 3x or more compaired to direct battery.
Hydrogen doesn't really make much sense in normal cars. Mirai and nexo don't have anywhere near the range of a diesel and finding a hydrogen station on a road trip is much harder than finding a charging station.
Hydrogen is inefficient, very expensive and the filling stations are complex and very expensive. It's not like LPG. For a start it heats up when you fill a tank with it so it has to be supercooled first. It causes embrittlement of steel, it leaks through anything you try to contain it in and it's not very energy dense. A hydrogen fuel cell car is basically a battery electric car topped up by a fuel cell. Batteries have surpassed fuel cell cars in everything except the refill time.
@@b127_1 that is because the industry is not installing hydrogen stations and governments don’t care. If the stations are there then it becomes an option for buyers. If Tesla had not installed all those chargers on its own it would have never been a succes.
@@matthewwakeham2206 An electric car is also not efficient looking at the massive battery size and the amount of raw materials + pollution that is needed to manufacture them. Indeed producing hydrogen is not as efficient yet and innovation is needed there. Also the battery failures and replacements after 10-15 years are not really called efficient…
