Niee review, but I don't get the Model X comparison. The Model X is a SUV for rich consumers, while the EQV is clearly aimed at the professional taxi market.
The EQV is 70k... probably out of budget for most taxi drivers. The two cars are probably compared for rich businessmen that need to bring their top employees with them a lot.
@@danohaffey4205 Because of tax incentives and subsidies, it can vary a lot per country and even city (congestion charges, costs and obtainability of taxi and parking permits) how well the EQV compares to its diesel and petrol cousins. So I guess that where in some markets you won't see them at all, in others they will be a big success. I don't know all the rules and subsidies here in Amsterdam, but I can see that the Hyundai Kona has become a regular sight on taxi stands.

No it’s not. Being in a similar segment as a Tesla car and being electric doesn’t make everything a Tesla slayer, very few cars are actually trying to beat Tesla, they are simply just electric cars.

Drove the old Vito prototype electric van around 6 years ago and I actually really liked it, works perfectly for deliveries in town. Not sure about Taxi stuff.. The infrastructure just isnt there to maintain battery.
This Van is what practical Dads who have a mobile business and are also keen on doing long road trips! This is perfect for me! When is the EQV hitting the North American market? I want to be the first to buy one, I am tired with the gas Vans around here! This is perfect for my family

More a challenger to my Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, a PHEV which has been (until now) the only minivan/people mover that can do any decent distance (~33 miles) on electric-only power. From the review, though, the performance is far off the PacHy's, but if it is sold in the U.S., I would be interested to see how it competes. Thanks as always, Rory. (As for me, I'll be buying the Ford Mustang Mach E for my next vehicle, since I already *have* the PacHy to move 5+ adults.)
Great review Rory, as always. But this Merc is no SUV. It's just a van with seats. But with a big battery. And it won't have Tesla's infrastructure for charging it up. Trying to compare this Merc Van to a Model "X" is like trying to compare a Model "X" to a Porsche 911 and calling both of them, a sports car.
I have a Veedub Caravelle 2.0TDI which is a great car for long journey's with the family. I can get over 1,000km of range on the veedub so the technology isn't there.
Yea in a couple of years as a second or third hand efter a nice price drop. It has an ok range bit more would be nice but time will tell. You could maybe build in a conduction heating for kooking.
Can the rear seating rows be configured to face each other? I've sat in the V-Class as a premium taxi a number of times and it's a very civilised way to transit. I'd imagine most of these will be used as premium taxi / transit vehicles. Not sure what electrification brings to the party in terms of passenger experience at the moment? For the operator, it's better 'fuel-economy', congestion charging exemption and greener credentials

Vauxhall, Citroen and Peugeot have similarly sized electric people carriers on the cusp of release for less than half that Merc’s £70k. The three pointed stat comes with a hefty price tag. Tesla should have a mini bus in a couple of years.
The V is a perfect family car, spacious und comfy, nothing better on the market. EQV? Hm, pitty it rechrges only with 110 kw per hour with the big battery, Model X makes longer trips 500 mls for vacation easier. However, how often do you drive 500 mls per day?
Okay, I know car fans are not the biggest SUV fans, but if you needed to ferry 7 people around, would you have a standard V-Class van or a GLE / GLB? whichever one is more comparable in price.
Hi Nick , one question that no one ever asks is whether the EQV can be wheelchair adapted like the previous diesel versions as a lot of these v class are used by people with disabled family members and also if it can be done do mercedes still stand by the warranty like the diesel version was?
I have just taken delivery of a VW Caravelle executive and its way plusher than this, the seats in my VW are way better, leather and alcantra, tech is better - its just diesel. When VW bring our their ev version its going to hammer this to death. Rory - can you get your hands on the VW ID Buzz to review ?
You can lead a horse to water comes to mind. However, if you aren't an SUV fanatical nutjob, this is an extremely charming and quirky upper middle class family car.
EQV are just different to SUVs incl Tesla X. A friend ordered the EQV since he has 4 small kids. No SUV can handle that (and you now say 'no, not true'... You dont have kids 🙃)
This is the prefect taxi car, especially for trips between airport and down town...
older versions are actually used for that, though it would charge you like 100 pounds for a short trip.

This has more in common with a model x than a model x has in common with a 911 in terms of he types of buyer they might suit.

You can also choose any number of seat configurations, change them or simply remove all but the first 2. Can't do that in a SUV
