  • My Friend MetalAndGraphite sent me some graphite molds that he made so I took them for a test drive. Pretty straight forward today. The molds looked great and were fun to cast some new treasure pieces for the chest.
    Check out his shop, he has some pretty cool stuff:

    I was thinking, do you think it might be easier to pour if you used a smaller crucible? Especially for the teeny ones? Just a thought. I hope you're having a great year so far. ☺️

    • @TheGrowingStack
      @TheGrowingStack  Год назад +1

      It probably would have been easier, but I looked at the amount of the leftovers and how they would fit in the smaller crucible, so I took the easy way out in that regard, which made it more difficult to pour from the bigger crucible. But you’re right for sure. My year has been pretty crazy so far, this my lack of melting and posting, but I’m hoping to ramp back up. I hope you are doing wonderful as well Tracy!

  • @j0hnf_uk
    @j0hnf_uk Год назад

    The problem with smaller moulds with shallow pointy corners is that the metals viscosity doesn't always flow into them as you'd like. Copper tends to work better than an aluminium alloy for this, but the window of opportunity for it to work is limited due to the metal cooling from the moment it's taken out of the forge. Not a bad effort, though.

    • @TheGrowingStack

      I wanted to see what I could do with the aluminum bronze and copper. I should have just used zinc though for the detail.

    Bro, please please please do not use a wire brush on graphite molds, please use a stiff horse hair brush to clean up. Wire puts scares and even deep groves into them and will cause them to not release, as a cad welder for copper and aluminum wire, I have had to sacrifice molds that others did that to them.

    Hey brother !! how are you my friend??? hope all is well... I am no expert and havent actually walked this path.. but it seems to me perhaps zinc would be better to use when pouring something small or items that need high detail.. you could always cheat and remelt it in the mold or heat it back up in the mold with your torch to get them to fill in properly if it cools off to fast... but great video and i would agree with some others here on an item... maybe use a smaller crucible to have better control of the pour and perhaps heat it between pours on the small molds so it does not firm up so quick. loved the video.. the diamond molds are great and that's a great friend to send ya those.. but cool you paying back.. much respect.. be well and stay safe brother... catch ya on the next one. would love to see some more sand casting or the creative pours that you did .. like the orbz and such...
