    HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
    I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

    Hey BigstackD, that is an Albany door systems control panel. That was used to automatically raise and lower rolling garage doors. You generally see those around factories and mines, machines would have a built in module which would roll up the door when it was approaching, and automatically close the door after the machine had passed through the door. Keep up the good work.

      Particularly the "MCC VectorControl" according to the internet. Yeah the doors must be massive as there must be a ton of current running through the thing looking at the size of those torroids and the resistor he pulled out, not to metion the entire case is one large heat sink.

But when I sit down and turn on BigStackD I know I can always lose myself in the intricacy, dedication, and just overall effort you put into making these videos out for us every week. I do have to add that I am a huge dog lover and over the last year I have grown very fond of Ingot and Bouillon. I really respect the love and care you give to them. Watching these videos always makes me feel hungry. Can't think why(!) 😁
    That second pour of the copper came out almost perfect. I think it helps to get the mold nice and toasty so the metal has more time to reach all the parts before it starts to solidify. Getting the aluminium, 'cherry red', hot seems to help it pour more fluidly, too, I've noticed.

  • @LanakilaMiller

    Love the channel. My favorite is watching you pour copper and when you shine up the bars or other pieces at the end. There’s something really incredible about how you take literal junk that people of thrown in a dumpster and turn it into these molded coins or bars and just a little bit more effort to sand and shine were they look brand new all over but even better. Oh I will also say I do enjoy how are you measure things and show at the end if you’ve lost any due to the slag or you weigh the propane tanks to show how much you use to make the metal melts that you have and then I do like how at the end you say the total of what you did in the different currencies how much it’s worth.
    Just as a sidenote as a person who has been in the custom home building business and around it all my life and actually being a partner working for 15 years I have to wonder your overall goal for melting metal is 1 ton and at least in pounds you’re over 1800 do you have that special space in the wall case shelf supported underneath or are you not on a raised foundation and your house is on a slab? I ask because if it’s a raise foundation a lot of the time it would not be able to support that amount of weight for that long is the only reason I’m even curious.
    My guess is 1919 and 9191.
    Thanks for all the videos we can count on weekly.

    • @SmokeyJoe42098
      @SmokeyJoe42098 2 года назад +6

      The clay in the crucible becomes somewhat malleable and sticky when super heated, and the fire brick or rigidizer is sometimes a little porous or rough and allows it to stick. The carbon layer from the paper or cardboard gives enough of a barrier to let it loose.

    G'day bigstackD, beautiful job on those bars and your amazing stack! Concrats on 822 kg as well, you're 82.2% of the way:) Also I'm a how ridiculous fan so I'm gonna guess 4444 and 9393 👌👌👌
    P.S. I'm a fellow melter/stacker with a 116 kg stack but I'm struggling to find metal to melt. Any ideas for finding cheap metal? (I've melted all the stuff i can get my hands on around the house)

      Well are there any dumpsters you can check out like bigstackD does? My local landfill has specific areas where people are allowed to dump appliances and such, if you like taking stuff apart to get all the goodies like he does:-)

      scrap yards are a good place or if you want something quick you can always ask family/friends/neighbors to keep all the drinks cans they use and then collect and melt them

    Seems to be an electrical regulator. For example like the top comment said, to lift garage doors and such. I've seen them regulate flow from power poles/towers, radio towers, etc. It's there to act as a control panel for many different devices ^^

    That is a Control logic board for a High speed door. Mainly used for forklift access. all the connections on the left side are for Photo eyes, safety sensors, control inputs etc.

    I always enjoy your videos, they're part of my Friday morning coffee viewing ritual.
    My numbers are 764 and 6599
    Question: how many uses do you typically get from a crucible before its unusable? Does it depend on the metal being melted? (2 questions, sorry )

    • @heathstott
      @heathstott 2 года назад

      I’m surprised he bined that crucible, for aluminium I basically use them until cracks start to show or you can move the casing in anyway.
      I inspect before each use.
      On the other hand copper if spilt is very hard to remove from inside the furnace, and the temperature is much higher than aluminium.
      Typically one should get 100+ kgs of copper or more from a 6kg crucible if it’s just brass, around %50 more, and aluminium even more melts again.
      The higher the heat, or melting multiple bars in succession and taking care of the crucible will prolong or reduce its life.
      Cost wise about $1 a melt.
      After I’m finished I have an insulated steel can that covers the crucible so it cools slowly.
      It’s the same when I start.
      .2 Mpa for 15 mins to warm everything up.
      I got 31 kgs of copper to melt and I can’t wait for morning🤣
