In my opinion, Wally is 1 of the best rivals in the franchise. Even though he always loses to you, the player, his progress from when he started in Petalburg is truly honourable. This is a kid that not only had a sickness but also very low-self esteem and to see him defy that and progress the way he did really was inspirational. In anything, Wally reminds me of myself, I have low self-esteem and I suffer from a couple of disabilities but I'm not the type to let those pin me down and conquer me. Wally, you may be shy and lack confidence but you'll always be 1 of the best rivals.

ralts restores wallys confidence, ralts becomes really powerful as gardevoir, and as it evolves so does wallys confidence and health, which leads me to believe his respiratory problems was related to mental health, possibly serious anxiety attacks, I'd even go as far to say it's social anxiety of feeling inadequate which is why he constantly goes on about doing better... this fits the move to verdanturf because moving out into the country air is a known help for people's mental states. ralts evolution really changes his self esteem because it's evidence that he is capable.... or he could just have asthma, and finally got a pokeinhaler from his local mart

Not only has acquired more pokemon and evolved them he has also went to the far reaches of a region to get a mega stone for his partner. Now we need to remeber he supposedly can't travel far yet has done this much. You have motivated him to risk death. This kid has done a 360 and knows what he wants. Not to beat you, but to test his limits on you. His shivering figure is gone. You are his hero...his champion...
Wally's dialogue in the Japanese version and the fact that he has a Gallade with perfect IV's with that rematch, and ditching two of his team members from before (such as Altaria) suggest he's been doing a lot of egg farming for perfect stats. What does THAT say about him? (I didn't know about this till I read it on TV tropes. It is suggested he threw away all his scruples and went the way of the StopHavingFunGuys.)
Proto, this is EXTREMELY out of the question because Wally's mindset is "if you knock me down, I'll get back up". That is why he wait's to feel better (as in medical) to come and challenge the gym. Don't believe me? Well his ralts is kinda level 25, I think he could level up once, evolve and knock out the first three gyms. Also, Wally just somehow gets ahead of the player. Since Wally is outside of the cave of origin, he would try to challenge the gym as soon as possible to impress the player. Also isn't it obvious that he is more brains than brawn, so he most likely to do the puzzles quickly while avoiding trainers.

I have a dark theory. WARNING* This theory contains Suicide. You have been warned. My theory is that, after you destroyed Wally's confidence, he decided, if you are too strong and you are the best trainer in Hoenn, there is no where to go. You can't beat Him. He thought. He felt that he was in a never-ending Hell. So he decided that he was going to commit suicide. Or, an alternate choice would be to go away. To stand at a mountain no one else can climb. He thought that he would be by himself. But unfortunately, in the process, he fell off. Because of his asthma. The air was not enough. So he lost his grip, and fell. A local hiker found his body and called Police. It was over the news. After his parents found out they cried. Then, they found a letter in Wally's room. It said that Brendan was too strong and drove him to climb a mountain. And stay by himself. The parents then got angry and went to Littleroot to confront Brendan. After a long talk with his parents, Brendan heard the news. And then he felt bad. He told himself that he couldn't be forgiven. So he left and never came back. He is still somewhere to be found. I personally think you've got it all wrong. As I see it, Wally doesn't train Pokémon to prove himself to others, instead, it's his way for coping with his illness. Look at people who go through stress in a long period, some become obsessed with cleaning, creating a sense of control. What does a young, boy in the Pokémon world do to actually cope with his own weaknesses as a person due to his illness? He train Pokémon to get a feeling of becoming stronger as a trainer.
Actually, you pushed him to become the best trainer he could be. Remember, he was sickly at the beginning of the game. In Verdanturf, he became better and became a confident, brave Trainer.
But Proto, its rivals like Wally that make me wish that the Pokemon game's stories branches even a little bit. What if you lost to Wally and the story continued instead of going to the Pokemon center? How would he have turned out?

Wally's dialogue in the Japanese version and the fact that he has a Gallade with perfect IV's with that rematch, and ditching two of his team members from before (such as Altaria) suggest he's been doing a lot of egg farming for perfect stats. What does THAT say about him? (I didn't know about this till I read it on TV tropes. It is suggested he threw away all his scruples and went the way of the StopHavingFunGuys.)

Proto, this is EXTREMELY out of the question because Wally's mindset is "if you knock me down, I'll get back up". That is why he wait's to feel better (as in medical) to come and challenge the gym. Don't believe me? Well his ralts is kinda level 25, I think he could level up once, evolve and knock out the first three gyms. Also, Wally just somehow gets ahead of the player. Since Wally is outside of the cave of origin, he would try to challenge the gym as soon as possible to impress the player. Also isn't it obvious that he is more brains than brawn, so he most likely to do the puzzles quickly while avoiding trainers.

Ok, in the anime, Norman is May's and Max's father. In the manga, Norman is Ruby's father and Professor Birch is Sapphire's father, and finally in the games if Brendan is the player, Norman is his father, and May is Birch's daughter, but if May is chose as the player, it's the opposite. Does that make clear, everyone?

I have a dark theory. WARNING* This theory contains Suicide. You have been warned.
My theory is that, after you destroyed Wally's confidence, he decided, if you are too strong and you are the best trainer in Hoenn, there is no where to go. You can't beat Him. He thought. He felt that he was in a never-ending Hell. So he decided that he was going to commit suicide. Or, an alternate choice would be to go away. To stand at a mountain no one else can climb. He thought that he would be by himself. But unfortunately, in the process, he fell off. Because of his asthma. The air was not enough. So he lost his grip, and fell. A local hiker found his body and called Police. It was over the news. After his parents found out they cried. Then, they found a letter in Wally's room. It said that Brendan was too strong and drove him to climb a mountain. And stay by himself. The parents then got angry and went to Littleroot to confront Brendan. After a long talk with his parents, Brendan heard the news. And then he felt bad. He told himself that he couldn't be forgiven. So he left and never came back. He is still somewhere to be found. There are rumors that he went to another region.

I personally think you've got it all wrong. As I see it, Wally doesn't train Pokémon to prove himself to others, instead, it's his way for coping with his illness. Look at people who go through stress in a long period, some become obsessed with cleaning, creating a sense of control. What does a young, boy in the Pokémon world do to actually cope with his own weaknesses as a person due to his illness? He train Pokémon to get a feeling of becoming stronger as a trainer.
All these people liking Wally and I'm in the corner with Sanik (Barry).

Actually, you pushed him to become the best trainer he could be. Remember, he was sickly at the beginning of the game. In Verdanturf, he became better and became a confident, brave Trainer.
But Proto, its rivals like Wally that make me wish that the Pokemon game's stories branches even a little bit. What if you lost to Wally and the story continued instead of going to the Pokemon center? How would he have turned out?
