    Wait a second... if fainted Pokemon can't be caught because they have no HP, and therefore, have no digital signature, then what about Pokemon you've already caught that faint? They go right back into their Pokeballs...

    • @AndreasKaraolis
      @AndreasKaraolis 4 года назад +7

      Good question.
      You could say that the Pokemon you already caught are only registered in their own Pokeball by default, and that makes them able to return back inside. That’s the same reason why you can’t catch other trainer’s Pokemon. They only belong to one specific Pokeball.
      This is my just my opinion 👍🏻

  • @darcraven01
    @darcraven01 9 лет назад +213

    The way i always looked at it, you cant capture a fainted pokemon because it isnt awake and cant willingly submit...
    The pokeball is an inventation of submission, not a forced capture.. its why pokemon can break out of the pokeball at will.
    In order to capture a pokemon, it must decide that you defeated if, and its willing to submit to your training in order to become stronger. If itd fainted, it cant make the choice to submit... it has nothing to do with digital signatures...
    Or atleast thats how i believe it works... thats my theory on it.

    • @finalfrontier001
      @finalfrontier001 9 лет назад

      darcraven01 That is FLAWED what you said because you are saying Pokemon's are self aware..... which is not the case because Pokemon are like animals.

    • @darcraven01
      @darcraven01 9 лет назад +28

      finalfrontier001 there are several cases of pokemon learning to speak perfectly in the human language, as well as references that state that some pokemon were at one point human... pokemon are not animals, they are monsters..
      besides that, even a dog can willingly submit to someone's rule.. so animals can submit, and make a willing choice to follow someone..
      so my theory isn't flawed no matter how you view pokemon..

    • @darcraven01
      @darcraven01 9 лет назад +5

      ***** i havent watched too much of the anime, so i could be wrong.. but isnt that only happens in the video games to make the task of capturing them more daunting.. i dont remember it happening in the anime like that..
      but if you were to take that "RNG" into count in the theory, maybe the pokemon is undecided on whether it wishes to be captured or not, and repeated attempts make it decide to give in and accept the offer? i mean, its clear that pokemon are capable of intelligent thought so maybe some just need time to consider the option.. that'd be my best guess to make it work in my theory.

    • @darcraven01
      @darcraven01 9 лет назад +8

      ***** i do know that in the anime a lot of times ash will help a pokemon out, offer to let it join his team.. it'll accept and he'll throw a pokeball at it and it always captured, further supporting my theory of it being the "pokemon's willingness to be captured" preventing it from being captured while fainted.. *shrugs*

    My theory behind this has always been that Pokéball capture requires consent. The battle is to gain the respect of the Pokémon, which then consents to be captured and become the trainer's partner. If the Pokémon has fainted, consent cannot be given.

      What about a master ball?

    • @vistatrista7
      @vistatrista7 8 лет назад +2

      Lil Layne
      Master ball is special and specifically designed to force any Pokémon to submit, but it still requires a conscious Pokémon to manipulate. (Just my theory)

    • @LY-ry1ju
      @LY-ry1ju 8 лет назад +2

      +culedoods Yeah if you think about it both fainting and sleeping, the Pokemon is unconscious

    • @vistatrista7
      @vistatrista7 8 лет назад +5

      *****
      Given that sleeping Pokémon are still capable of performing attacks (e.g., Sleep Talk, Snore, etc.) that are commanded by their trainer while sleeping, there must be some level of consciousness a Pokémon has during sleep and thus some level of awareness for consent.

    Something I didn't see you mention was actually one of the most obvious things.
    Jessie from Team Rocket literally captured a fainted Pokemon. In the Hoenn advanced generation series, episode eight, a tail with a twist, Jessie gets her hair cut off (and it magically regenerates later) by a wild seviper, and then she beats the crap out of the Seviper, only to have James and Meowth (who were terrified the whole time) tell her to catch it, and she catches it, while it is fainted.
    With this, I'd say that in the games you CHOOSE not to catch fainted Pokemon, because you have a heart.

  • @jasonroberts271

    I wrote a Pokemon fanfiction a long time ago, and in my fanfiction I explained that a Pokeball actually compressed a Pokemon's molecules(explaining why you can fit a gyarados into a ball the size of your fist) and put them in stasis. However, they needed to scan the pokemon's DNA and energy signature in order to compress them properly. But if a Pokemon was completely out of energy and had no energy signature, the scan would malfunction, and the Pokemon would either be rejected or sometimes destroyed, making an attempt to capture a fainted Pokemon pointless at best and life-threatening at worst. (Returning a fainted Pokemon to it's ball was perfectly safe however, as the ball already had the Pokemon's DNA and energy signatures.)
    Although let's just face it: the people who designed the games just designed the game mechanic that way so that capturing Pokemon wasn't too easy; they didn't spend 1.5 seconds thinking about the logic behind it.

    • @jasonroberts271
      @jasonroberts271 8 лет назад +17

      +Jace Roberts My fanfiction also described that the reason Pokemon broke out was that they used some of their remaining energy to short out the electronics in the Pokeball and destroy it to make their escape, which was why the more energy they had left the easier they escaped. Higher levels balls were just made with more expensive parts and design, and could scan faster as well as having more heavily guarded circuitry. But that's kind of off the subject. Please forgive my nostalgic rambling.

    • @momomomocensoredbyyoutube9085
      @momomomocensoredbyyoutube9085 8 лет назад +3

      +Jace Roberts even if it already had the signature registered it would still need an exact signature to compare to in order to be assured the pokemon returned was the same one previously housed. Additionally if a pokemon evolves it's signature would change meaning the same ball would not be able to continue housing it.

    • @jasonroberts271
      @jasonroberts271 8 лет назад +3

      Nick momo
      I know, I wrote it a long time ago. If I recall correctly I wrote in that evolution was certain dormant genes being activated and some of them mutating, but the DNA from the previous evolution was still in there, only it was dormant now so the Pokeball could still recognize their energy signature. Basically it meant that a Magikarp had all the DNA for a Gyarados, but they were dormant, and when it evolved all that happened was it switched which sets of DNA was dormant and which was active and the Pokeball could still read it. Poor explanation, I know, but hey. I was like 16 and trying to come up with a scientific explanation for something that had none.

    • @jasonroberts271
      @jasonroberts271 8 лет назад +2

      Nick momo
      Oh and as far as returning a Pokemon, when the Pokeball records the energy signature upon capture, it saves the data so it can correctly return and store the same Pokemon again. Which is why you can't use a Pokeball on two different Pokemon, because it already wrote the data from the first Pokemon onto it's miniature hard drive.

    • @momomomocensoredbyyoutube9085
      @momomomocensoredbyyoutube9085 8 лет назад +2

      just one hole left. When playing the game and trying to catch a pokemon belonging to another trainer it appears possible to catch though is always prevented by the trainer themselves physically blocking the pokeball from touching the pokemon. If a pokeball specifically registers a pokemon then this means all pokemon ever being caught have to enter a gigantic database which catalogs them and blocking the pokemon from another trainers ball would be redundant...

  • @Jaridavin
    @Jaridavin 8 лет назад +29

    That's not it.
    Minus the masterball's forced will, the pokeball will not catch the target if the target does not see the trainer as worthy. Basically, it has to accept that the trainer is worthy in order to let itself be captured.
    This is why legendaries have a super low catch rate, because they are well above the trainer, and the trainer has to prove itself. This is also way it doesn't work on fainted, as the pokemon cannot state that it chose the trainer if it's knocked out. The Masterball is the only ball that bypasses this ruling, and is considered forcing the pokemon to your will.

    • @BlazerT48
      @BlazerT48 8 лет назад +2

      That sounds more plausible. and that got me into thinking... why don't game freak made the Pokemon who was caught by masterball to not obey the trainer, unless a requirement has been met, like defeating the champion. that will make the game more logical to support the theory

    • @Michael-qr3dz
      @Michael-qr3dz 8 лет назад +1

      i think this was best explained by my brother when i was like 8. it's unconscious, a body no brain. the being of worth thing kinda makes sense but only in the games with strict rules. in the show/manga anything goes because the characters are less two dimensional. consider this, in the show a pokemon can learn more than 4 moves. so while yes there is some ground for a theory here unless game freak or Nintendo says something it will remain speculation.

    • @Jaridavin
      @Jaridavin 8 лет назад +1

      BlazerT48 Nothing said all of pokemon was innocent.
      Masterball can be equal to forcing it against it's will, so you're kind of a douche to any pokemon you throw it at. Better treat it well.

    This theory is ridiculous. If they've got no digital signal when fainted, how do they return to the ball when they faint?
    The truth is, they are dead

    • @Cubicstudios
      @Cubicstudios 8 лет назад +5

      +InfernosReaper I think that if there has to be an explanation that makes sense with the pokemon lore and not the game mechanics, I think that pokemon that are battled will not be captured if they are very determined to not get captured, but when weakened they may lose their will to resist. Naturally legendaries would have greater willpower.

    • @InfernosReaper
      @InfernosReaper 8 лет назад +2

      That makes no sense when they are "fainted" which is unconscious. They would have less will power. They've gotta be dead in all seriousness.

    • @Cubicstudios
      @Cubicstudios 8 лет назад +2

      What I forgot to add was that the pokemon has to want to be captured. When it is fainted it doesn't have an opinion.

    • @InfernosReaper

  • @dustinbenzel8704
    @dustinbenzel8704 8 лет назад +14

    Unfortunately you didn't take into consideration that Pokemon use HM moves/or field moves when fainted.
    And I'm sure I have seen some instances where anime Pokemon were caught when fainted, like Ash's Bulbasaur,
    But as for the games, I'm pretty sure the reason you can't catch fainted Pokemon is simply just because the battle ends. The trainer doesn't even get a chance to do anything, and since most of the time, the point is to just get experience points, it would be a chore to have to cancel capturing a fainted Pokemon each and every time. And even if there was an option to turn it off. I kind of think it would be too easy to capture fainted Pokemon might be another reason why.
    I do slightly agree with your suggestion that it might be that it's not very sportsman like to catch fainted Pokemon, because the Pokemon couldn't try to escape being caught but then again the whole point of weakening it is so that it doesn't have energy to break free.
    Only anime examples have shown some Pokemon finally accept being caught.

    • @Bauglir100
      @Bauglir100 8 лет назад

      +Dustin Benzel How do you explain if the Pokemon was a Legendary/Shiny Pokemon? Wouldn't you want to get it anyway?

    • @tonycast7754
      @tonycast7754 8 лет назад +2

      +Dustin Benzel Well there is an episode in the anima where Ash wanted to capture an injured(fainted?) Dotrio but misty stopped him because it wouldn't be right. It was not because he could not do it but rather because it would be immoral. Something about because the Pokémon could not defend itself and have a proper battle. So this single episode could easily debunk the energy required theory. +ProtoMario even used an image in his video. Fainted Pokémon in the Anima can and are captured. Not all of them have to be as seen with Caterpie who was captured without battle and with one shot. The reasoning behind the games is mechanics mostly. There is a capture strategy in Pokémon that just going around catching fainted pokemon by using your level 100 _______ would break. It doesn't really have anything to do with, that you'd have to cancel the capture animation or what not any more than it requiring you to first call out your lead Pokémon before deciding if you want to run or battle them. A simple "______ fainted, would you like to try to capture it?" message would solve that easy enough.
      Further more the capture mechanics work better in the games if the pokemon in question was still able to battle due to the requirement of having a capture rate on higher quality balls. Otherwise why have better or more encounter specific types? You get the message I quoted followed by either a "Capture failed/succeeded" message where the encounter ends and you loose that Pokémon or it asks if you want to throw another Pokéball up until you can no longer try and capture it due to not having any left to use.

    • @Bauglir100
      @Bauglir100 8 лет назад

      +Tony Cast (Prowl Nightwolf) No, Misty stopped him because he was supposed to be TREATING the Dodrio's injuries, not catch it.

    • @tonycast7754
      @tonycast7754 8 лет назад

      ***** Well the exact dialog escapes me as it has been a time since I've seen the episode in question. I do know you are correct however in regards to the moment in question because I remember the premise of the episode. They were helping a doctor's office/ Pokecenter (Forget what one) treat some Pokémon who got injured from an accident. This however doesn't change the fact that she did not stop him because it was not possible to catch a fainted Pokémon, but rather it was an immoral thing to do and they had more important uses of their time.
      I think I'll look up the episode while I am here and watch it to be certain.

    Then why is it when a Pokemon faints it returns to the pokeball? You know, if the digital signature prevents you from capturing fainted Pokemon the same logic should apply if it faints after being caught. Sorry but the theory doesn't work, take a cue from the game theorists then try again.

    But if a Pokemon doesn't want to be captured; why don't Pokemon just RUN the first time they're let out after being captured? Most Pokemon are extraordinarily fast; and the anime and manga have shown that Pokemon can dodge; or deflect, the Pokeball's recall beam.

    • @enicnarfxbella
      @enicnarfxbella 9 лет назад +1

      Asura Arklin Let me try to explain my thoughts on this.....In the very first season of the Pokemon anime, Pikachu did try to run from Ash. But Ash eventually won over Pikachu while risking his life to protect Pikachu. If Pikachu was successful in running from Ash at the time, there really would have been nothing that Ash could do. Ash can try to look for it but it depends on whether or not he can manage to find it. It also depends on whether or not Pikachu would be willing to return with Ash. I think the main reason why pokemon don't run from their trainers is because in defeating (Not fainting) the pokemon first, they are more likely to see the trainer as someone with more power/authority than they have. Thus, they would be more willing to *let themselves be captured* in the first place. They'd have no reason to run away from someone they chose to follow right?

    • @IamDaBlitz64
      @IamDaBlitz64 9 лет назад +1

      Asura Arklin I'm sorry, but the dude above me makes it sound like this is a game of willing slavery or something...
      I do believe its more like certain Pokemon, seek out stronger enemies to make themselves stronger, as such is nature. When they meet a Trainer, they wanna prove themselves superior and won't think twice to fight back. Now when they are weakened and trapped by a pokeball, first instinct it to gtfo. If they do, it is similar to saying "Is that the best you got?!" or "FU!" & they wanna keep fighting. There were times when the Trainer ran out of Pokemon or ideas to capture the Pokemon they do run away & has been noted a couple of times before. Now, about those roaming legends and timid Pokemon, they ARE willing to run away asap to get away from Trainers, especially if they live in solitude. They were Pokemon who even batted Pokeballs away because they refuse to battle. Which leads to the conclusion that if a Pokemon does not run away or defend itself without battle, it either wants to battle or be captured. Both equating to the Pokemon simply wishing to become stronger and believing that this Trainer can provide this for them. Then there is that middle ground where the Pokemon literally is a run away or just seeking adventure, leaving one to think that Pokemon have the same instincts as Humans and actual pets & wild animals: looking for others to make themselves stronger via both strength & character.
      It is the Pokemon's choice to stay with their Human, and its pretty damn clear that Pokemon can just will themselves out of their Pokeballs or destroy them. Which is why the Masterball was invented because Humans are greedy sons of bitches. And I believe the other balls (Great, Ultra, Net, Love, etc.) are even more tests of a Pokemon's will to fight. An easy capture differs greatly from a catch you worked pretty damn hard to land.
      Think about it: Would you rather toss a Master on a Fearow without battle only to find it doesn't have the right stats/moves/etc. you want/need OR go toe2toe with a hard to catch one and find the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow?
      The strong seek the strong, the weak huddle with more weak, as such is life (although comparing Running Away to Weakness is sorta unfair.)

    Now I have a theory as to why Pokemon have a chance to escape the poke all when they are initially captured. It goes hand in hand with this theory. All Pokemon gain a digital signature when a pokeball is thrown at them, but this process takes a few seconds. In those few seconds, a locking mechanism is slowing moving into place. If the Pokemon has low HP or a status condition, it is more difficult for the Pokemon to break free before the signature is assigned and the locking mechanism clicks. If a Pokemon should break free before that happens, the incomplete signature fades and the process has to be started over.

    In some of the more recent games, when you've fainted a legendary, you're prompted with a response that's something like "It ran away." We also know that fainted pokemon aren't necessarily knocked out since they can still use HM moves. I propose that fainted wild pokemon simply retreat into the grass (or sink beneath the waves or hide behind a rock or whatever). That's why you can't catch fainted pokemon. I'd love it, if in future games, you could catch fainted pokemon if you had something that kept them from fleeing, such as Arena Trap or Shadow Tag or Wrap.

    Interesting. I always had it in my mind Pokémon battles only go on until a Pokémon loses consciousness once, but that they usually get right back up after three seconds, still alive and able to move, but too weak to fight without risking death. This would also explain why Pokemon can use HM moves while fainted. Too weak to fight, but possibly still able to swim and push inanimate objects around as long as they don't have to worry about further injury.
    So basically, under this system, you can't catch fainted Pokemon because they only lie there fainted for a few seconds, and then they run away because they're afraid of being killed, essentially acknowledging defeat. Sort of like how in the Safari Zone, if you throw too many rocks, the Pokemon flees. Making a Pokemon faint could be an equivalent of that. I noticed that in some of the recent shows, they say that the Pokemon is "unable to battle" after a certain point, and it doesn't even have to faint now. It just has to be unable to stand for several seconds, and it's considered to have lost... even though it does get up after that point and move around injured/slowly, like a wrestler dragging themselves back to their corner after losing a round.

  • @xehanort6

    I get your point, but it does raise the question of what about when trainers recall their fainted Pokemon? I suppose you could say in the games they automatically return to the Pokeball, or even that with periodic hosting of the Pokemon they are able to maintain a charge. I wonder if that means a caught Pokemon can stay away from its Pokeball long enough that it loses its bind.

  • @aggro4213
    @aggro4213 8 лет назад +2

    My theory is that when they faint, they recover a bit of energy. To bond their digital signature to the Pokéball, they need a bunch of energy. (This makes up for the, BUT PROTO WHY CAN THEY RETURN WHEN FAINTEEEED) Sometimes Pokémon recover quite a bit of energy at the beginning, or at last. It depends on the Pokémon. (BUT BLOCKY WHY DO WE NEED TO KNOW THIS?!) I'm getting there. The little bit of energy is enough to return when the digital signature is already made.
    So, short for all:
    - You need quite a bit of energy for the bonding. So that's why a few Pokémon can't get caught when fainted.
    - Depending on the Pokémon (Not like Happiny can and Scyther cannot, no, really on the Pokémon itself) the recovery of energy can go quick at the beginning or the end. If it's at the beginning, it can get caught when fainted.
    - It only takes a bit of energy to return, which is already recovered after a few seconds.

    Actually we're missing a very important fact, and probably the most logical reason (at least in terms of the games and not the anime). In the games, making a wild Pokemon faint causes 2 things. 1 it gives exp and two it exits the battle phase. It would be ridiculous if you could both gain exp for defeating the Pokemon and be able to capture it as well.

  • @davalious5107
    @davalious5107 9 лет назад +1

    A much simpler answer could be that when a pokemon in the wild runs out of hp it doesn't really faint but that's the point where it basically says "I'm screwed" and flees. So a wild pokemon's hp could represent it's will to battle more than it's ability to stay conscious. Plus several times in the anime you can see a pokemon appear to be fainted just before it's caught

    I've gotten a good idea for a pokemon theory:
    Are Pokémon humans that are li living with some aliens in symbiosis? That would mean, that the humans are giving the aliens a safe home and the aliens are giving the humans special powers.
    In the "Sinnoh Myths" they are saying that a dead fish-Pokémon will rebirth. That's because the alien in the human heals its owner after a while too.
    Maybe there are some Pokémon which remember that they were humans like the protagonist of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team.
    That's my little theory!

  • @FolixOrision

    This theory opens up the concept of storage it takes to store a pokemon. Based on what you said with energy, it would be that the more health a pokemon has, the more data it has.
    With the continued enhancement of pokeballs, i would expect pokeballs that allow for multiple pokemon within them to be a thing, once the digital storage of them becomes increased.
    I suspect this is a risk factor. If you threw a pokeball containing 3 pokemon and then then the pokemon you are trying to capture breaks the ball, it could cause harm to the other pokemon inside. With that said. I would still think people would of attempted this.

    Interesting take on it, but there's a few flaws with this theory: the first coming to mind being that in the anime, Ash catches Pokemon that have been fainted. There's actually quite a bit of gameplay that contradicts the anime, but that aside, Nintendo really should fix the no catching Faints rule. I've always figured they added it to make it harder to catch Pokemon, which you mentioned as well, but instances like traditional Safari Zone were quite a pain. I never understood the sense in rock throwing myself. At least Bait had SOME sense to it...
    As for the Pokemon not recognizing their Trainers for catching during a Faint and disobeying, Charizard actually CHOSE Ash to be its Trainer back when it was Charmander, so that really had nothing to do with it. It literally jumped into Ash's Pokeball. Aside from in the movie with Mewtwo, Pokeballs don't typically break when a Pokemon capture fails, either, as seen in the anime. The ball simply floats back to the Trainer's palm (funny, since if it works and catches the Pokemon, it just sits on the ground). The no-D.S. theory seems a bit far-fetched because Pokemon HAVE been captured while fainted in the show, and recognized their Trainers forevermore. In fact, other than Caterpie, I can't think of a time when a (battled) Pokemon that WASN'T fainted was caught in the show. If the Pokemon awoke in the ball after a knock-out catch, I imagine the D.S. would generate and bind at that point. Sure, it may resent the Trainer, but many captured without being fainted do anyway.
    I'm probably forgetting some aspect of innermost game workings, but what did you mean in the part about the Masterball "catch any Pokemon, except for having that 0.001% chance"? And who or what is Black Fog? Is that a nickname for a "hidden" Pokemon like the "Ghost" of Red/Blue? I haven't read any Pokemon manga, so just curious.
    As for Venom's second question, I believe he's talking about when Ash threw Pikachu's ball at it to recall it, rather than doing the traditional "hold your arm out, let the beam of light zap and absorb the Pokemon" method. You actually show this around 3:37 or so in this vid.
    I really didn't mean to write so much, but this has been on my mind since game one. XD

    Here is what I think. It's not the signature that matters. It is important for storing and swapping pokemon, but not for capturing. Pokemon are energy based creatures which assume phisical form as their higher energy state. Pokeballs were designed to keep pokemon at lower energy state,when they can be compresssed for better mobility of a trainer. When you battle pokemon, you drain it's energy, no mater what type it is. You can't do any real damage to Muk or any ghost pokemon or Ditto, because there is nothing to damage, but they can be defeated and caught when their energy is low. Pokeball can handle only so much before overloading and releasing pokemon that still has too much hp(energy). That's why you can't catch fainted pokemon. It's HP is mostly intact at that time. Also, I think energy limit comes from size of a pokeball. Make one big enough, and you could catch Articuno with your eyes shut. But let's face it, no one would want to haul 6 beach balls on their backs.

    You know what i think is really interesting, though? In the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, you actually DO make pokemon completely faint so have them join your team. Once you kill them they'll magically pop back alive and ask you join your team. Should you accept with a spare slot in your party, they'll join you with full health! This really has nothing to do with the main series or the pokeball, just an interesting idea that gamefreak has put into pokemon itself.

    So let's assume that this digital coding of Pokemon is done using their 'life energy' (which I find unlikely to begin with), wouldn't completely depleting a Pokemon's life energy, you know, kill it? Pokemon can in fact die. There have been Pokemon cemeteries is many of the games, but we know that fainting and dying are not the same since you can revive a fainted Pokemon. Listen, the idea of HP is a game mechanic. It is not canon in any games that I know of. That's because there is no such thing as a mathematical fraction that describes how alive something is. There are numerous variables involved in an organism's vitality, and it cannot be expressed by a single fraction (at least not one the size of your typical HP meter).
    Ultimately this is a game mechanic, and I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to think up hypotheses to explain game mechanics canonically, but you're making it needlessly complex. A much more likely explanation is that if you abuse Pokemon by fainting them, and not giving them a say in capture, you're going to have a resentful bad-egg who ignores you, or even gets violent with you.
    And to anybody who says that the Pokeball scans the Pokemon's DNA, that's bogus too. Especially because Pokeballs preserve wounds, which are far from genetic. You can't inherit a bruise or a broken bone. Everything about Pokemon is epigentic. From EVs, to Move Sets, to held items. Even certain evolution paths (Eevee for example) are examples of epigentics at play in Pokemon. Pokemon change based on their environment, and the way they're trained. Just like people, their development is not bound by their environment. If you train your Pokemon to be fast, it'll be faster than other Pokemon of the same species. Just like it you eat healthy, you'll be healthier than other people.

    I think the process which binds a pokemon to a pokeball (that's why you can't switch pokeballs because they're somehow bound to it) is taxing on a pokemon/pokemons body so capturing a fainted pokemon risks killing it. Once bound a trainer can return a fainted pokemon to it's pokeball because it doesn't have to go through that process again.

    This would make sense, and to add, a fully energized pokemon (full HP) is able to interfere with the pokeballs processing but when weakened and status afflicted remove the pokemons effectiveness to interfere or "focus", and higher quality or specialized pokeballs are like computers with faster proccessors trying to link to the pokemons energy signature just as you said.

    I think its mostly a game feature added to actually give pokémon games any type of challenge to them.
    Another theory of mine is that its simply not a fair way to catch pokémon. To not give them a chance to struggle, *Ignoring the Master ball* and break free of their balls. If you knew you could just go all out against any legendary pokémon it would make the game less interesting...

    Actually in some episodes of pokemon Ash made the pokemon faint before catching it... that is only in the games when if the pokemon faints the battle is over and the pokemon magically disappears.

    My thought about this is that KOed/Fainted is something completely different from the Sleep status. Whereas Sleep status is essentially self-induced with some amount of persuasion on the opponent's part usually (see: Hypnosis, Sleep Powder, Rest, etc.), Fainted is an involuntary sleep.
    Think about a boxer being knocked out. When that happens, the brain is usually essentially forced to 'reboot' itself, and a boxer is usually disoriented if he stays on his feet.
    It's the same with Pokémon, except for the fact that now you're introducing a digitization process on the creature in the middle of this self-repair mechanism on the part of the Pokémon's brain. It doesn't take a genius to realize how this would turn out badly. It's very easy to see how likely it would be to cause irreparable brain damage, and possibly even killing the pokémon outright.
    Further, considering the state of technology, it's very likely that all pokéballs made or sold would have Faint detection programming in their chips. Even if that wasn't something that could be programmed to detect, nobody who cares about pokémon in even the least would do such a thing, and those that would do that would rightly be shunned by the rest of the population, or more likely arrested for abuse.

    Proto says that some guy had a theory that if a fainted pokemon were to wake up in a pokeball it wouldn't know how it got there and burst out, so then why can a pokemon be caught permanently while sleeping? DEBUNKED

    Two things: 1, I saw the first 8 episodes of pokèmon XY and I saw these two named Clemont and Bonnie (No not Bonnie the animatronic) try and catch a Dededenae (I hope I spelled that right) and they tried it the first time it escaped but they fainted it and Clemont said "Now for sure!" And he threw a pokèball at the fainted Dedenae (I don't know how to spell that sorry) and it caught it! The Dedenea was happy with Bonnie, though. And 2, that "Mewtwo and some other random Pokèmon" that other Pokemon was Mega charizard X.

    ProtoMario I just thought about this question along with some of the follow-up questions in the comments and came up with my own theory, which is a bit dark. Pokemon don't faint when you defeat them. They die. A pokeball won't work on a dead pokemon.
    "But your don't lose your captured pokemon when they faint."
    That's because they aren't real. When a pokeball captures a pokemon, it breaks them down and creates a digital copy of them. That's why they can be stored in a PC. The origional pokemon is destroied (which is why they fight so hard to escape). The pokeball is then able to project what is essentially a solid hologram of the pokemon it assimilated. The items you use recharge the ball's energy, restoring the power of its projection, or (in the case of a Revive, or the table in the pokecenter) provide it with the energy to create a new copy of a projection that was destroyed in battle.
    Pokeballs destroy pokemon to create digital copies.
    You can't capture a "fainted" pokemon because it's dead.
    You can't capture another trainer's pokemon because it's a projection.
    Your pokemon don't die, because they're projections.
    This is also why a pokemon captured by a sufficiently advanced trainer will always be completely obedient. The pokeball saves personality data when it creates the copy, then the badges interface with the ball to rewrite the personality file to one that is mostly the same, but obedient. You need more badges for stronger pokemon, because the League wants to regulate the amount of power an unskilled trainer can wield. As you earn badges, you prove you are competent enough to be trusted with more power.

    My theory; pokeballs have a life support mechanism, when a wild Pokemon "faints" or hits 0 hp it actually dies, when trainer's Pokemon faint, they return to their Pokeball, they are sustained until they are healed. The anime has slightly different rules on this, the Pokemon that don't like staying in the ball don't die when they faint because the anime has different mechanics, some Pokemon can even get back up and carry on fighting after fainting, it's like an alternate universe.
    Proto's theory is good but how can a trainer's fainted Pokemon return to a Pokeball if it has no energy and no digital signature? Items can also be held in Pokeballs so why wouldn't it hold wild fainted Pokemon?

  • @ManuYoCom
    @ManuYoCom 8 лет назад

    If I'm not wrong, in the anime they capture fainted pokemons several times, at least that's what I remember.
    Also, I didn't think about the Digital Energy. That would explain not only why you can't capture a captured pokemon (besides of "stealing is wrong"), but why you can have a pokemon back in it's pokeball even if fainted and why you can't switch a pokeball from it's pokeball to another new one or reuse a pokeball when you free a pokemon. When the pokemon is captured the pokeball makes a unique register of the pkmn's digital energy, like creating a bond between the pkmn and the ball. Each pokemon has it's own ball and can't be in another one
