You usually don't use all of your six pokemon during a pokemon battle. You normally only use one during an unofficial battle and a fixed amount during a gym battle.
It is actually explained pretty well in the Pokémon Adventures Manga. With five or less the trainer may suffer from a lack of diversity on their team, but any more than six and the trainer will struggle to give each individual Pokémon the care and attention that it needs.
And this doesnt make any sense, why does having 7 Pokemon means you cant give attention to all of them? Red has a rotational team of 7, he would give way more care and attention to all of them if he could have all 7 at the same time
Because the amount of RAM needed to hold the data sets of each Pokemon were limited to the small amount of RAM the Gameboy had. 8kB Internal S-RAM, could be extended to 32kB (Assuming with a seperate S-RAM on the cartridge) SIX ENTRIES: FOR EACH ENTRY: Current HP, Level, Status, Type 1, Type 2, Catch Rate/Held Item, Moves 1-4 Index number, Trainer ID, Secret ID, Current EXP, HP ATK DEF SAK SDF SPD EV data, IV Data, Move 1-4 PP Values, and a Seperate set of data for Level, Max HP, ATK DEF SAK SDF SPD data (for battles, can be hacked over maximum, but resets after being stored in the PC) Nickname data. That's 276 bytes of data. There's more RAM being used as well, for what's being drawn in the menu, what music is playing, what the previews screen was, player X/Y positions on the map, current map address, current number of events/npcs on the map and their positions, and any auto-running scripts. It was maintained at 6 because it worked, and there's no point to change that. Game balance was at Six. They did have a few early builds of Pokemon during the testing phase where they experimented with higher/lower Party sizes. 8 was too much, 4 was too little.
REAL ANSWER: actually if you read the manga (yes the offical real one with Red) they explain that the reason is because you can't care and love for more than 6 Pokemon. I mean it kind of makes sense. If you had 20 Pokemon on your team, how would you fight with every single one equally? You just couldn't make time for each one. Also if you have a bunch of pokemon on your team they would not level up very fast. 😑
Well, it's like how I originally owned 6 chickens. At that point, all of them were important. But at one point, I had 17 and I don't care about them as much anymore. It's 15 currently as two of the original 6 died at the end of last year.
6 Pokemon is the limit IF YOU'RE A REGISTERED POKEMON TRAINER. Ash is a registered Pokemon trainer with Prof. Oak as his sponsor. Ash's Pokemon get deposited at Oak's lab automatically because that's what the rules say. Every trainer follows the League Rules or else they lose their title as a trainer. If you're not a trainer, you can't fight Gym Leaders for badges, and thus can't get into the Pokemon League. Being a Pokemon Trainer and Gym Leader are jobs, pretty much. You follow the standards and rules to keep your "job". Damien is calling himself a trainer, but he most likely isn't; he doesn't have anywhere to deposit Pokemon (hence abandoning charmandar) and carries more than 6 pokeballs at a time. This means he doesn't have a sponser. There hasn't been shown any way to become a registered trainer other than having a sponsor who gives you your first Pokemon and Pokedex. He's just a random person with Pokemon, like a bug-catcher, swimmer, or maniac who doesn't intend on fighting in the league, but calls himself a trainer because he's an asshole lol
The Emerald King /TEK very good point! now I'm wondering that too. they're evil shouldnt they be able to break the rules, unless there's a big reason behind all that. think about it if the evil team breaks the rules of having more than 6 pokemons. they can take over the world and destroy it, due to the huge amount of Pokémon they would have at once. there would be destruction all over. or another reason if they break the rules of having more than six they might lose their pokemon. who knows.
6 is the maximum number of Pokemon a person can care for simultaneously while still giving adequate care and attention to each individual Pokemon. They're magical creatures. You think caring for a literal fire-breathing dragon is an easy task?
When I was a boy, my brother told me that a trainer can see through the red part of the Pokeball to see who they're calling out. Since the Pokemon anime is a show with a target demographic of pre-teens, you can't be surprised by inconsistencies and the like of this manner. If it were an adult-targeted science fiction series, I'd expect more concrete answers. I've always liked the version my brother told me so that's always been a part of my "head-canon".
+Vandalia1998 I think it's so that strategy can be implemented in to the games. If you had five or six it'd be too easy to stack up six moves of different types and basically protect yourself from anything, especially if the pokemon has incredibly high speed. I'm a competitive battler, and I've always felt like I'm building a puzzle up when I'm choosing my Pokemon's moves. It's strategy, bottom line.
+Earth Tooth true although i would appreciate at least 1 more move since hm moves can't be deleted :( or at least hm items would be added so u don't need a hm bitch (hm bitch is where you sacrifice a pokemon low lvl to beocme a pok that can han useless hm moves) hm bitch :P
uchiha obito But HM moves CAN be deleted. People are just lazy and don't like going to the specific house in a specific town (Blackthorn City of Kalos for instance) to do it.
Earth Tooth yeah but once you delete the move you can always learn the hm again, but not with the normal moves for example you can't learn fire blast again unless you use certain methods.... it's just annoying flying, walking and so on to the nearest move deleter it could be better if u could jsut reomve the skill yourself
uchiha obito Changing something as huge as an entire mechanic is pretty risky and probably isn't a good idea -- the concept of keeping HMs where they are is so that they're treated as special moves in order to not accidentally get yourself stuck in an area which requires rock smach/strength/cut etc. Plus, if they're programmed as special and hard to remove, you can't trade these pokemon and further get yourself lost. Makes sense to me idk. Annoyingness aside, I guess you'll just have to develop some patience.
The manga says it pretty clearly. You can only manage 6 at a time because otherwise the Pokemon wouldn't feel taken care of. In other words, it fits in with the game and anime mechanics of happiness. Pokemon max happiness of 255 and if a Pokemon is on a team of more than six, it would start lowering in happiness. That fits by manga and anime, and if you were to reference the anime, you could use Damien (charmander's original owner) who had a bunch of Pokemon, and his Pokemon were clearly not happy. At least charmander wasn't, and thus got over his loyalty by the end of the episode (happiness lowered below the base of 70) and hit Damien with a flamethrower. There is no theory, it's been explained.
+Stone Fight That doesn't apply to the games though, as not everyone has a pokedex, and as such no professor to take care of them. They just get stored in a digital state.
Yeah, I'm going to go with the idea they picked an arbitrary number to keep some semblance of control. If people could carry 100 pokemon with them that could be chaotic and battles would go on forever. But limiting people to 6 keeps it reasonable and allows control. And they can program that into the pokeballs themselves. Not exactly a big conspiracy.
Yeah and you would be able to defeat the elite four with a 200 digletts or beat them with your whole pc, I'd enjoy having as much Pokemon as u want in your party but only use a certain amount for every battle (eg you can only go against a route 1 trainer with only 2 Pokemon) thought let's go did something like that
Charizard wasn't bold. Ash only won like 3 badges, the others were handed over to him after he helped out the gym leader rescue their pokemon cause Team Rocket tried to steal them, or the gym was set on fire... Which is the reason why Ash never won a league, he kept being handed badges instead of winning them legitimately so he was never ready for the league where he'd face other trainers who actually won their badges fairly.
Damon Cassada I don't see the Orange Islands as an actual league since it's not part of the games, not even as a battle frontier. Also the Orange League wasn't all about battles, I remember once he had to race with his Lapras.
Dreamer Dawn Neither did I but the Adventures' Red game (or whatever it's called) should be exactly like the manga. And that Red didn't exactly win anything since the Soul Badge was given to him by his rival after Koga fled :v
Vaughn Joaquin It was probably due to the limited screen resolution, displaying more than 6 in a party would clutter the screen. Furthermore, I read somewhere that the creators were considering 8 Pokémon in the party for the third generation.
But other Trainers should use more pokemon too at the Same Time. I love Long Fights with different Type combinations( but NOT the stupid GP-gamble Zone where you can use only 3 and 2 attacks are enough to faint
+John Joseph Labrier The reason and backstory is in one of the Johto manga's, Crystal (a character) is told to not have more than 6 due to some pokemon might start to hate her if they are left out that much, so she has to dump one of her regulars for Chikorita, and 6 comes from Pokemon League observations and their determination that 6 is just the right number. I had a childhood, I swear.
6 is not chosen?you can still have 1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5 but the fact you can have 6 obviously suggests you should get 6 if you want to get the most out of yourself as to 'why 6' well, why not..
Why not carry all your pokemon with u since the bag is big enough for that, but you'll have to choose only 6 before a battle just like some events where you get to choose 3 from your team (battle frontier, pwt...)
Um, how exactly does an economy run on gambling? You realize that's not how economies work, right? Pokemon fights are, at best, entertainment - they don't actually add real value to an economic system, and so can't be the basis for an economic system. Nothing about this theory makes any sense at all.
Yes, but where does the money come from to begin with? You can't have an economic system based on this kind of competition. Someone has to grow food and build houses and make clothes - that is, make things that have actual, real value. Having a Pokemon-battle-based economy is like having a concert-based economy: no matter how much people like going to concerts, the economy can't be based on them. Put another way: if you have 10 people, each with $10, that economic system contains $100. No matter how much gambling those 10 people do with each other, that money just switches hands. Pokemon battles don't add anything to the system, but capturing and feeding pokemon (and, you know, the trainers themselves) subtracts from it, because you have to buy food and pokeballs and medicine. Pokemon battles can only be a net loss for the economy, meaning it has to be based on other things: agriculture, industry, etc.
DaAm4t3urist But where does the money come from??? If everyone is only making money from gambling, eventually it all gets taxed away and used up. You are totally missing the point.
Game theory, you are not. I was expecting something so much better. This gambling economy theory has little evidence to support it. The pokemon league shows no sign of being the government of each region, but rather just the organizers of the greatest competition in the world. They are rather like the officials for the super bowl. The best explanation for the 6 pokemon limit is that it is against the rules of the competition, just like how sports have rules to keep things fair. Otherwise, someone can win by simply having the most pokemon. The reason why the pokemon center is free? Because their world has free health care where their doctors are paid by the government instead of by the people. The pokemon stores take in money for their products and that's how they make their money, not by gambling. If any of that stuff you said existed and prevented people from cheating, then there would be no team rocket. Only a few solo rule breakers on their own.
YTDioX That's a reply I'd expect from someone who isn't really into it. Why bother giving an opinion on it if all you're going to say is "because it is what it is"?
He may not be a registered league trainer, meaning he doesn't have to follow the league specific rules on pokemon carry limit. There are many people in the anime shown to own more than 6 pokemon without having to use a PC. Ranchers for example. Or Damien is a league trainer but uses unregistered pokeballs so they don't transfer to his pc when he is over capacity.
According to the manga 6 pokemon is the right number because any more and you won't be able to give your pokemon the care they deserve. Any trainers with 7 or more pokemon are frowned upon. This got translated into the games because if you didn't have a limit you could just catch 20 wild pokemon and spam them to win battles.
Alex Dark some other comment mentioned really probably just coding restrictions and if the game wasn't successful the reasoning behind the limit wouldn't matter
Lol in an unrelated subject, I'm playing Pokemon Platinum and I just realized that Geodude is immune to electricity and still uses Mud Sport too much, what the hell! XD
It's not a joke. It's a reference to the famous "Size matters not" line stated by Yoda in the original Star Wars trilogy. Also, you spelled something wrong. It's "Pokémon", not "Pokemon".
superdudepwn Or maybe they actually went to the trouble of pressing Ctrl + ' and then typing "e" in Microsoft Word or something... yeah it's just too much trouble.
That's not really sinister. That's like the opposite of sinister. It's pretty much the obvious answer that everyone already knew. Because we need rules for any game to work and we need laws for society to progress.
actually in one of the books it says "of course it's possible to carry 7 or 8 or 20 or 30 but how can 1 trainer give all those Pokémon individual love and attention and training. so that's why they limited it to 6 Pokémon especially for serious trainers" I'm just sticking to that because it kinda makes sense. I mean it would be overwhelming to keep up to 30 Pokémon at a time
Trainers have only 6 pokemon so Bill's stocks can skyrocket. It's all a plot by the Rothscild. Stop capturing more than 6 pokemon, don't let Bill get rich off you!
Damien was not one of the trainers from Pallet. It was stated pretty clearly that Ash knew all of them, and he didn't know Damien. Therefore, he was from somewhere else.
+Hairy Leprechaun 6 pokeballs... so, 1 byte worth of data in memory for the games, so that would allow for 0-7. Remove the highest bit and you get 0-6 and a bit to use for something else. The joys of memory restricted games and workarounds for them :)
Newcomer here: wow, great video. Really makes sense, the limit is supposed to make a fight a fair, contained conflict, that can't temper with the orded set up by the givernment, also, to be challenging
It's actually stated in the Pokemon manga that the reason trainers can only carry 6 Pokemon is because that's the proven number of Pokemon a trainer can adequately care for and tend to at any given time.
**Ahem** *BUT Protooooooooooooooooooo!* The Pokemon league isn't the government of the Pokemon world. They're more akin to the NBA or the NFL, professional sport organizations that set up the rules and regulations.
Twisted Toon Taylor I think pokemon is like a sport and because any trainer can chellage the league and become champion and to make it more faster they had set up the rules and shilt co. had designed every pokeball to lock if they are not attached to the belt. ( trainers put their pokemon in a ball, the ball is held on a designed belt that signal the ball to not lock so they can be opened when tossed) Because the 7th or 8th ball didn't get this signal in under a reasonable time hey lock until they are sent into the pc.
I always thought of it as the way we treat weapons irl. Like people can get licenses to walk around with certain weapons, but you can't carry around an entire arsenal. Same with Pokémon. After you get your Pokémon license, you can only carry a certain amount, and breaking those rules could result in a visit to your nearest Officer Jenny.
Or it's the devil. Once you level up your starter once, it's level 6. You have 6 poke balls. And with the free potion from your pc/professor, and you buying the correct amount (5) you have 6 potions. 666
or Maybe its Pi... You have 8 gym badges, and GUESS WHAT, THERES A THIRD ONE, (3) Kanto is the first region you see. (1) Two less than the maximum amount of pokemon you can carry is (4) 3.14 Dont you just love illuminati logic?
The 6 Pokemon limit is so trainers don't use so much Pokemon to battle it will take too long to finish plus it's hard to train all the Pokemon at the same time.
If you want the real Real REAL truth of why only 6 its because the original Gameboy had technical limitations that made it so that it could only keep the base data of 6 Pokemon slots at a time, I'm sure they could have had more slots open but they could only have 6 slots at a time, the data from other pokemon was stored away in the boxes and put on standby. Or at least that's my theory Also if you want a more logical explanation it's because having 6 pokemon is like having 6 kids with you, the trainer would need to provide for himself and his pokemon
lol you think trainers have to feed their pokemon? when they're in their balls they are transported to a retreat where they can rest and eat. they only need to be treated if they're kept out of their balls for long periods.
+dedpxl If there's a pokemon in a ball, on your hip, then you need to feed, water, toilet and bathe that pokemon. The only ones who go to a retreat as those that are teleported back to Prof. Oak's dude ranch.
I'm pretty sure the reason for the six Pokemon limit was stated in Pokemon Adventures. Crystal said that this rule was enforced because there was no way for a trainer to be able to look after more than that. It's possible to have more than six with you, but the more you have, the harder it would be to provide each individual Pokemon with the love and attention it needed. So it was really more for the Pokemon's benefit than the trainer's when you think about it. Of course, the manga, anime, and games could also just take place in completely separate universes with different rules for each of them, rendering any possible explanation for one completely useless in another so there's no point in even considering the rules for one universe to be applicable in another. Anyways, this is a great theory. :D It seems very well thought-out.
doesn't make sense the pokemon league says you can only register 6 pokemon for a battle most. it never said how many pokemon can be on your persons at one time
Jesie Cruz for example if I had 667 pokemon ( good thing I did. Not put another6 ) it would take ages to battle. And you can't quit it might take a whole day depending on how much pokemon the opponent has so that why
no that's not the reason, I read this in Pokemon adventures, the real reason is the trainer can't give as much love and affection for 7 or more Pokemon so six or lower is a good number
So, if the Pokemon League is the government, does that make guys like Team Rocket insurgents? Could they be rebelling against what they see as an unjust system, and simply think the ends justify the means? Or, maybe they want to overthrow the Elite Four and take over as rulers? What would a region run by one of these teams be like?
Well most of them are as they are preteens and teens though bkss man Giovanni isn'the ia just straight up villian for tr. Team aqua and magma where very misguided and past thati just dk
ProtoMario Helllllo. I'm the RUclipsr who made the PokéSins video referenced. First of all, thank you for the mention, however I would like to point out a couple of things. 1. The episode in question is a parody not a copy and the style has since evolved into the unique one I use now. 2. Are you aware that my first episode predates yours by 2 months?
Gar1onriva Oh hello, no offense to you man, just wanted to point out there are so many massive loopholes in the episodes that your show popped up in the first Google results. I do it in alot of my videos, discussing what actually does come up in Google, and how significant it is. I apologize if I offended you.
Gar1onriva Yeah I do quite alot, but I have one bit of advice. You have pauses quite a bit and it feels like it breaks the flow, if you got rid of those I think your videos would flow alot better.
I think I've figured it out. You can in fact have at least 6 pokemon but you can only have 6 pokeballs with pokemon active. Any other pokemon have to be not bound to ANY sort of pokemon. Both Greevil and Ghetsis have 6 pokemon tied to pokeballs and 1 pokemon not tied to a pokeball
ProtoMario I still feel like the PC itself tracks the number of pokemon youve withdrawn and limits you to six.. i still dont know how Damien would get past that though
In the manga Pokemon Adventures Oak says that a trainer can carry more than six Pokemon at a time if it needs to be done but how in the word is the trainer going to give all these Pokemon all the love and attention they need. so isn't that the answer? Cause I thought is was.
+Utkarsh Pandey Don't you love the Pokémon adventures manga and thanks for responding to my comment this is the first time a comment that I posted was replied to
Nice99 haha you are welcome. I loved the pokemon adventures until it became too expensive to buy haha. I have hardcopy versions until volume 41. But now the quality of the stories is dropping or maybe i am growing up.
I don't know how to say this with insulting you, but your understanding of economics is very pathetic. Let me provide you some basics. There are two fundemental types of economic activities. Production & Diversion. Production is pretty easy to understand. It is the actions necessary for the creation of goods and services that can be consumed or used to create more production. Diversion everything else a person can do. Diversion can come in both necessary and destructive forms. For example, building a fence to keep raiders out of your fields is necessary form of diversion. And the raiding is another form of diversion that is destructive. Now that you have the framework. Which society is likely to be more wealthy? One in which 100% of the population engage in production or one that engages 10% in diversion and 90% production. The answer is very obvious. The more people producing things, the more stuff there is to go around. Now let's think about the Pokemon world. Do pokemon battles count as diversion or production? One could argue they do provide some entertainment, but for the most part they are clearly diversion. You can not build a society around diversion. Eventually all the consumables will be used up and the society will die. Yet that is what you are suggesting a society has done. If everyone is fighting pokemon battles, then no one is planting crops and building houses. To make it simple, the Pokemon world is a clearly artifical is you apply economic theory to it. There are so MANY contradictions once you dig into the lore. Pokemon is not some well thought out Tolkien world. It is not even a well thought out framework trying to immulate a Tolkien world. It is the equilivent of the background on stage. Flat, colorful, and clearly not real. If you are watching Pokemon you are there for the explosions and dog fighting with adorable animals.
Zachary Morris I love exploring lore of settings. But Pokemon is one those worlds where there is a LOT of lore, but most of it does not reconcile to reality or even itself. I have an masters in economics and something I did like 10 years ago was try reconcile the Pokemon economy. I quickly realized that the world was WAY to artifical to ever be real. The best I came up with is this one. The Pokemon world is actually a Amish-like space colony set in an advanced intersellar economy. Basically a group of humans for what whatever reason have choose to drop most of the trappings of their intersteller & highly advanced society and live as how they think humans lived in the 1980 or 1990s. They keep only what they think is necessary and does not upset their aesthetic, and import much of their supplies from the advanced society. The viewing rights to the pokemon battles are sold to the rest of advanced society to subsidize there lack local industrial base. The natives of the Pokemon world don't mention the intersellar community because it is taboo. They also consider any non-Pokemon research & discovery to be taboo. To build on what was said in the video. When the colony was younger, the Pokemon cult founders probably descended in the chaos after a few generations. Between the poverty and the cultish devotion to Pokemon, it was easy for warlords to emerge. The authority ultimate rose was not just the most powerful, but the ones who set up a deal to sell of the television rights to Pokemon battles. Being the only source of wealth they set up a society even more dedicated to Pokemon battles so that they could broadcast greater and better matches. Children are encouraged to raise pokemon so that they never gain a proper education. The people of the Pokemon world are so ignorant of the world because the lack of a proper education, that they have no idea where anything is produced and don't even think to ask (just like modern children)
TC Coltharp that is a very an interesting story. You put a lot of thought into that. Is it happening, youtube comment section is evolving. (i can't think of the best reply here i'm sorry)
TC Coltharp That is brilliant. Can I adopt/share it? I think I've found some other evidence to support it, like longer lifespans (apparently there were eyewitnesses to the Burned Tower burning down, which happened more than 100 years ago.)
CraftyKittyGaming Sure. I would love to see a video on that which is thoroughly researched. I would also consult on that if you want an expert opinion on it.
Im not going to check every comment to make sure no one wrote this already, but in the Manga its was said that six is the best amount of pokemon to give everyone the similar amount of love they Need.
Errr- actually if you read the manga (yes the offical real one with Red) they explain that the reason is because you can't care and love for more than 6 Pokemon. I mean it kind of makes sense. If you had 20 Pokemon on your team, would you fight with every single one equally? You just couldn't make time for each one.
Uuuhhh I watched this thinking it would come up with the real answer. It did not the real answer is in the manga series, when Prof. Elm said to Prof. Oak that the limit is six because they thought that was the limit a trainer would love evenly.
Pokemon Special answers this. The 6 Pokemon limit was agreed on by professional trainers as the limit that one trainer could feed/clean/train and otherwise give proper attention to. Before learning that Red was trying to juggle something like 17 Pokemon, so the game limitation is just based on "recommendations" from the Pokemon League Association.
The real reason is in the manga, professor oak says that the reason you can only have six pokemon is that you can care and love for sox pokemon but not 50 or something, so yeah you can only care about six little monsters
in episode in which ash gets charmander the guy to whom the charmander actually belongs have more than 6 pokeball how is it possible??? If anyone of you agree pls like
I saw somewhere, in the manga i think, that the limit was stablish so the treiners could actually give just the right amount of attention to each one of their pokemon. I know it's a lame excuse, but i'm pretty sure it's some legit information.
Read the Crystal Arc in Pokemon Adventures(Special), Professor Oak and and Professor Elm discuss why it is hard to train more than 6 Pokemon at a time, in this chapter Crystal has trouble keeping 7 of them together.
I read this I a book or saw it on Pokemon that the reason that there only 6 that you carry is because the average Pokemon trainer could handle that many compared to Pokemon professors and that some time the professors need to analyze the poke to make sure that you can keep them and battle and every thing that is the real reason 100%.
Quicker Answer: If you had to battle a trainer with 200 metapods, would you like it? No. The reason there's a 6 pokemon limit is so the fight doesn't last three hours.
In tcg you win when you collect all 6 prize cards or your oponnent has no more pokemon on their bench, so that would be my theory for the 6 pokemon limit.
The 6 limit dates back to the video games, more Pokémon in the games meant that the games would require more memory and use more memory. It was more of an technical limitation. In the cartoon they gave an different explanation to this limit later on.
It's 6 because that made for a good plot point. It helped make the games balanced, you had to create a team that could win battles and use whatever HM was demanded. And in the anime, it stopped them from having to include every Pokemon Ash caught, at random. Fans would just exclaim how Ash should use his so-and-so in this situation, but he was kept with a limited team to stop that. 6 gives Ash and us type variety while being balanced.
Simple.. Because if u can carry all of the pokemon u caught, u will have a hard time feeding them and carrying them around or if its in the game, u have a pretty small screen to fit all of the choices u will have once u enter a match
*It's a safety law/rule in the PokéUniverse society so that someone can't just show up to PokéMart and unleash 100 Pokémon to rob the place.*
Abacus that’s only in the games, in the anime we see people with more than 6 moms
One Pokémon would be enough. Remember lance using hyper beam on that one dude?
Legit ima pull up with a nidoking that is holding a desert eagle i put on him and i take all their potions, revival herbs, wallets, etc
@@wish7540games are the src material bro anime isnt canon.
Answer : So the battle won't last for 2 hours
Imagine unlimited Pokemon in your party a battle would take a long tame
+Payton Baker if you could have unlimted pokemons battles would have a limit of pokemons like they alredy do 6v6, 3v3
You usually don't use all of your six pokemon during a pokemon battle. You normally only use one during an unofficial battle and a fixed amount during a gym battle.
exactly. simple as that. But nooooo. This jackass had to go and throw some pokemon goverment conspiracy theory shit in to pool.
so pathetic...
OFFENSIVE POTATO they could if magikarp vs magikarp
It is actually explained pretty well in the Pokémon Adventures Manga. With five or less the trainer may suffer from a lack of diversity on their team, but any more than six and the trainer will struggle to give each individual Pokémon the care and attention that it needs.
But why and more specially how the 7th and beyond pokemons are instantly teleported to the lab + instant digitalization
And this doesnt make any sense, why does having 7 Pokemon means you cant give attention to all of them? Red has a rotational team of 7, he would give way more care and attention to all of them if he could have all 7 at the same time
Because 5 was too little and 7 was too much
5 is okay when moving to 6, same with 1-4.
Three dog ouuuuuuuu giving you the truth, no matter how bad it hurts
no its three dog
Maybe 7 was too much but 8 wasn't. Get your logic right mate.
Because the amount of RAM needed to hold the data sets of each Pokemon were limited to the small amount of RAM the Gameboy had.
8kB Internal S-RAM, could be extended to 32kB (Assuming with a seperate S-RAM on the cartridge)
SIX ENTRIES:
FOR EACH ENTRY:
Current HP, Level, Status, Type 1, Type 2, Catch Rate/Held Item, Moves 1-4 Index number, Trainer ID, Secret ID, Current EXP, HP ATK DEF SAK SDF SPD EV data, IV Data, Move 1-4 PP Values, and a Seperate set of data for Level, Max HP, ATK DEF SAK SDF SPD data (for battles, can be hacked over maximum, but resets after being stored in the PC) Nickname data. That's 276 bytes of data.
There's more RAM being used as well, for what's being drawn in the menu, what music is playing, what the previews screen was, player X/Y positions on the map, current map address, current number of events/npcs on the map and their positions, and any auto-running scripts.

Why
Well, it's like how I originally owned 6 chickens. At that point, all of them were important. But at one point, I had 17 and I don't care about them as much anymore. It's 15 currently as two of the original 6 died at the end of last year.
So is there a limit of 6 children too?
Good point
As long as i get to battle and you don't shove a colored rock in my face
The 7 pokemon spot should only be for the hm slave
Exactly
Gonçalo Gold 8 and 7
Gonçalo Gold blol
Latios
Nidoking/Tropius
so if I have more than 6 Magikarps it may overwhelm me and I might die!?
Yes because they are deadly.
Benz Quizon they are 1000times more deadly than a level 100 raged mewtwo magicarp can jump mountains
Obviously, uh duh!
I'd like to inform you that i just beat the pokemon league with six magikarps. Consider that.
SONE StarSwift Edits Omg did you see that video too?
How dare you say that I Got7 Pokemon haha so stupid
This comment needs more upvotes!
TheGoldenDunsparce u expect me to read all of that
Bdsm
Late, but thats what he meant.
But why do the EVIL teams use 6 Pokémon to you'd think since there EVIL they would break that rule too
The Emerald King /TEK very good point! now I'm wondering that too. they're evil shouldnt they be able to break the rules, unless there's a big reason behind all that. think about it if the evil team breaks the rules of having more than 6 pokemons. they can take over the world and destroy it, due to the huge amount of Pokémon they would have at once. there would be destruction all over. or another reason if they break the rules of having more than six they might lose their pokemon. who knows.
Coding One that is a good Q but then again... team rocket would just jump ash and take pikachu
If Team Rocket Broke Rules
James and Jess : *Throws 10000000000 Pokemon*
Ash : UHHHHH.......... GO CATERPIE
Caterpie : OH HELLLLLLLLL NAWWWW
because games and the anime had to be interesting
Most of them don't even 6 though, most use 4. Expecting them to use more is mind-boggling to GameFreak.
6 is the maximum number of Pokemon a person can care for simultaneously while still giving adequate care and attention to each individual Pokemon.
They're magical creatures. You think caring for a literal fire-breathing dragon is an easy task?
Yes! Yes i do
Wouldn't explain team rocket since they don't care for pokemon
@@thepickeypenguin7098
they do (because there were trainer at some point)
@@NothingHere9911-blank giovanni be like:
Also they don´t
No trainer can give a Pokémon all of the love and attention they need if they have dozens upon dozens of them.
TickedOff Priest This video didn't say it was because a trainer couldn't love them. Actually watch the video this time please.
rodentlover100 Do you remember when the comments section was a place where people could introduce new ideas and discussion?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
TickedOff Priest You seriously +1'd your own comment? Remember when the comment section wasn't full of trolls? Not even Pepperidge Farm remembers.
rodentlover100 That is someone else. I just tried liking it and it got two likes.
MyButt CanSuckAFatWiener I severely doubt it.
here's a great question.......how do trainers recognize which of their 6 pokemon are in each pokeball?
I suppose that does make sense......
In one of the pokemon comics, the tops of the balls were see through and you could see what was in there
i think whatever name u take the pokemon appear
+yabucca they are shrunk inside as told by everyone
When I was a boy, my brother told me that a trainer can see through the red part of the Pokeball to see who they're calling out. Since the Pokemon anime is a show with a target demographic of pre-teens, you can't be surprised by inconsistencies and the like of this manner. If it were an adult-targeted science fiction series, I'd expect more concrete answers.
I've always liked the version my brother told me so that's always been a part of my "head-canon".
I want to know why there is only a 4 move limit in the games
Earth Tooth
yeah but once you delete the move you can always learn the hm again, but not with the normal moves for example you can't learn fire blast again unless you use certain methods.... it's just annoying flying, walking and so on to the nearest move deleter it could be better if u could jsut reomve the skill yourself
uchiha obito Changing something as huge as an entire mechanic is pretty risky and probably isn't a good idea -- the concept of keeping HMs where they are is so that they're treated as special moves in order to not accidentally get yourself stuck in an area which requires rock smach/strength/cut etc.
There is no theory, it's been explained.
soupedkid13 but wait, won't they get lonely stuck in the PC? lol
+RainDevour Well the pokemon get sent to the person who gave you the pokedex so they wouldn't be lonely
+Stone Fight That doesn't apply to the games though, as not everyone has a pokedex, and as such no professor to take care of them. They just get stored in a digital state.
NeoBlitz13 But I'm pretty sure they are able to interact with other pokemon while in the box, like when they're in a pokeball
+Stone Fight what about the pokemon that have no bond or are just rough around the edges? They would not care about compassion or care anyways.
Or they simply set a limit so battles wouldn't go on for twenty years. This theory doesn't make any sense.
I partially agree with that, though he's lost every league except the Orange Islands, even in regions where he earned his badges the conventional way.
Damon Cassada
I don't see the Orange Islands as an actual league since it's not part of the games, not even as a battle frontier. Also the Orange League wasn't all about battles, I remember once he had to race with his Lapras.
Dreamer Dawn Funny, since that's how Red got some of his badges in the game dedicated to the manga. But I don't see you cussing him out for that :)
*****
I've never read the manga so I couldn't judge.
Dreamer Dawn Neither did I but the Adventures' Red game (or whatever it's called) should be exactly like the manga. And that Red didn't exactly win anything since the Soul Badge was given to him by his rival after Koga fled :v
Maybe because the game came first and the game could only handle 6 Pokemon each
Yes. It did
Vaughn Joaquin It was probably due to the limited screen resolution, displaying more than 6 in a party would clutter the screen. Furthermore, I read somewhere that the creators were considering 8 Pokémon in the party for the third generation.
Vaughn Joaquin thats what I thought.
But other Trainers should use more pokemon too at the Same Time. I love Long Fights with different Type combinations( but NOT the stupid GP-gamble Zone where you can use only 3 and 2 attacks are enough to faint
Iris Confusion yeah, but would you like a 9999999999999 pokemon battle lasting 2 week? nah, im fine. plus, the memory and space would get destroyed.
in other word "because they're the rules". thanks for wasting my time.
Ur just wasting more time commenting😐😑
Cole Tackett and i'm wasting more time replying to you
thanks you save my time although i watch the whole video
***** im wasting more time replying to you replying to me
Well what do you expect pokemon isn't real people just made it up 😂😂😂
You never explained why "6" though. You explained why there is a limit, but not why the chosen limit was 6.
+John Joseph Labrier hardware limitations of the gameboy or something
+John Joseph Labrier The reason and backstory is in one of the Johto manga's, Crystal (a character) is told to not have more than 6 due to some pokemon might start to hate her if they are left out that much, so she has to dump one of her regulars for Chikorita, and 6 comes from Pokemon League observations and their determination that 6 is just the right number. I had a childhood, I swear.
THANKYOU! No theories, no other bullshit, just a company that decided 6 pokemon.
6 is not chosen?you can still have 1, 2 ,3 ,4 ,5 but the fact you can have 6 obviously suggests you should get 6 if you want to get the most out of yourself
as to 'why 6' well, why not..
Ikr
Or like, games would go on forever if you and the other trainer had like 56 Pokemon each.
+Lily Freeman TRUUUUUUUUUUU
Why not carry all your pokemon with u since the bag is big enough for that, but you'll have to choose only 6 before a battle just like some events where you get to choose 3 from your team (battle frontier, pwt...)
thats technically what the pc is for
Um, how exactly does an economy run on gambling? You realize that's not how economies work, right? Pokemon fights are, at best, entertainment - they don't actually add real value to an economic system, and so can't be the basis for an economic system. Nothing about this theory makes any sense at all.
If you lose the battle you pay the trainer you lost to, its a gamble.
Gambling is sum zero
pokemon battle taxes
DaAm4t3urist
But where does the money come from???
+Geno Stellar Hey man I just wanted to thank you for the most obvious statement, no I am not Gamethoery. Have yourself a great life.
ProtoMario And thank you for the most pointless reply. You have a good one, too.
because its just a game and a tv show or its just a game/the game. also you can open 7 avobe pokemons but not in battles because its cheating.
YTDioX That's a reply I'd expect from someone who isn't really into it. Why bother giving an opinion on it if all you're going to say is "because it is what it is"?
Geno Stellar
They copied the first game with 6 pokemon max dah.
That doesn't explain why they go to the pc automatically, especially if they didn't for Damien.
damien probably uses his friends pokemon aswell
That, or multiple accounts.
Yes, sounds absurd, but it makes sense to me.
And Melvin. He caught a ton of exeggutor.
Plot twist: They're all just empty pokeballs.
It's fair that every trainer can have 6 Pokémon, so that you don't encounter trainers with like 20 Pokémon and you have only 5 or something...
According to the manga 6 pokemon is the right number because any more and you won't be able to give your pokemon the care they deserve. Any trainers with 7 or more pokemon are frowned upon.
This got translated into the games because if you didn't have a limit you could just catch 20 wild pokemon and spam them to win battles.
the manga is just explaining things everything is based around the original games as the games actually came before everything else for once
+dyndo101 Yeah but as he said the manga tells you the reason. The games do not.
Alex Dark I was just correcting his last point where he says that the manga translated the six pokemon limit into the games
dyndo101 i agreed with you was just saying that the game dosnt say why theres a max of 6
Alex Dark some other comment mentioned really probably just coding restrictions and if the game wasn't successful the reasoning behind the limit wouldn't matter
Lol in an unrelated subject, I'm playing Pokemon Platinum and I just realized that Geodude is immune to electricity and still uses Mud Sport too much, what the hell! XD
Diablo Mask lols
cause why not?
Awesome Minecrafter oooooooohhhhh zinger
Diablo Mask I never understood that either
Diablo Mask The funny thing is that random trainers actually use the move in battles lol
6 is a simple number, it can be divided... stuff.
tru tru
yup
So can 4 or even 2...
well I think the 6 limit is because if you had to many Pokémon it would kill you or you would destroy everyone in your path
I'd just like to point out the fact that James casually makes a "size doesn't matter" joke in episode 13... Yay, Pokemon; it's for kids, right?
Weird People Channel Size can refer to more than just your manhood... or... womanhood?
EDIT: ...Womanhoods? Womanheed?
Weird People Channel I always thought he was making a Godzilla reference.
It's not a joke. It's a reference to the famous "Size matters not" line stated by Yoda in the original Star Wars trilogy. Also, you spelled something wrong. It's "Pokémon", not "Pokemon".
T2 Kuroko let him spell pokemon how he wants I do it this way and it doesn't matter pokemon even notice I know its wrong
superdudepwn Or maybe they actually went to the trouble of pressing Ctrl + ' and then typing "e" in Microsoft Word or something... yeah it's just too much trouble.
That's not really sinister. That's like the opposite of sinister. It's pretty much the obvious answer that everyone already knew. Because we need rules for any game to work and we need laws for society to progress.
+JitterBob Is that a real mustache?
+ProtoMario okay. You convinced me: I'll subscribe.
+ProtoMario hi you are awesome
+JitterBob " we need laws for society to progress."
Not quite truth.
+JitterBob I love where he says "its probably real"
Because 7 8 9... Obviously
awesome
I like were your head is at
Wait So Seven Ate Nine XD!!!
actually in one of the books it says "of course it's possible to carry 7 or 8 or 20 or 30 but how can 1 trainer give all those Pokémon individual
love and attention and training. so that's why they limited it to 6 Pokémon especially for serious trainers" I'm just sticking to that because it kinda
makes sense. I mean it would be overwhelming to keep up to 30 Pokémon at a time
+Landon Helsing I would love to keep 420 blazeit smokeweedeveryday mlg pokemon
+Landon Helsing pokemon adventures volume 10 when crystal returns chikorita to prof elm.
Therefore, he was from somewhere else.
because thats how many they decided would work for the game. stupid theories...
+Hairy Leprechaun LOL so smrt.
+Hairy Leprechaun 6 pokeballs... so, 1 byte worth of data in memory for the games, so that would allow for 0-7. Remove the highest bit and you get 0-6 and a bit to use for something else. The joys of memory restricted games and workarounds for them :)
Can I haz smartz plz
Or maybe thats what they want you to think 🤔
that's like asking why only one football in field
THAT "BUT PROTO" THING, IS LIKE HEARING SOMEONE SCRATCH A CHALK BOARD...
DreadsAndKush I know right.
Newcomer here: wow, great video. Really makes sense, the limit is supposed to make a fight a fair, contained conflict, that can't temper with the orded set up by the givernment, also, to be challenging
So I guess we're just ignoring the manga which clearly says it's because that's the optimum amount for a single person to train?
lordellie2 guess so. i was waiting for him to bring it up since it is explained and a rather simple explanation but nope..
Which manga?
Pokemon Adventures
Sorry but the magna doesn't really count as they do all sorts of weird things.
Miss Amanda's world The show does weird things too, but that was the main source he used.
If Gary picked Squirtle and let's say Damian picked Charmander. Who picked Bulbasaur?
The girl in charge of the hidden village
UnovaTrainer1 hmm idk then
I was expecting a no one picks Bulbasaur comment
***** he's underrated but Imo the best kanto starter
Michael Thompson In terms of stats, Squirtle's the best, and Bulbasaur's the worst. That doesn't stop me from picking Charmander though.
I think it's just the battles would go on forever and you'd have to carry billions of Pokéballs
Theres a 6 pokeball limit because once you get 7 you can summon the dragon to make a wish.
+theOriginalskillr badumm tsss
pokeballs not dragonballs. one you get 7 pokeballs you can summon the dragon it duh
It makes me mad because Eevee has 8 other forms... meaning I should get 9 slots. Best team eeveer.
John Hasben Exactly. Calling the Pokemon league the government of the Pokemon world is just plain silly!
Twisted Toon Taylor XD but just think a 10 year old president by having 1 lvl higher pokemon
John Hasben D : This can only end terribly...
Twisted Toon Taylor yea but come on a person with a higher lvl pokemon and older can beat him XD
lmao, I totally forgot about mlg Ash beating a Pokemon with a stick X'D
agree XD

I always thought of it as the way we treat weapons irl. Like people can get licenses to walk around with certain weapons, but you can't carry around an entire arsenal. Same with Pokémon. After you get your Pokémon license, you can only carry a certain amount, and breaking those rules could result in a visit to your nearest Officer Jenny.
Or it's the devil. Once you level up your starter once, it's level 6.
You have 6 poke balls.
And with the free potion from your pc/professor, and you buying the correct amount (5) you have 6 potions. 666
Oh no! They're onto us. Let's get out of here! **flies away on Giratina**

Dont you just love illuminati logic?
Edmond H. its not illuminati its numerology
The 6 Pokemon limit is so trainers don't use so much Pokemon to battle it will take too long to finish plus it's hard to train all the Pokemon at the same time.
*cough* xp share *cough*
E.P Σpan *cough* gen 3 xp share only works on one pokemon *cough* oh sorry I coughed, I said that the gen 3 xp share only works on one pokemon.
Alton Grange J.R. but gen 6 xp share works on all pokemon in your party.
you... uh.. forgot to cough
Alton Grange J.R. **facepalm**
I’ve always believed the 6 Pokémon limit was to limit the power of citizens, like how fully automatic rifles are band in most places.
Or at least that's my theory
Also if you want a more logical explanation it's because having 6 pokemon is like having 6 kids with you, the trainer would need to provide for himself and his pokemon
lol you think trainers have to feed their pokemon? when they're in their balls they are transported to a retreat where they can rest and eat. they only need to be treated if they're kept out of their balls for long periods.
+dedpxl If there's a pokemon in a ball, on your hip, then you need to feed, water, toilet and bathe that pokemon. The only ones who go to a retreat as those that are teleported back to Prof. Oak's dude ranch.
I cant believe this, using Anime logic to explain technical limits of the Game boy hardware.
+Haruhi Suzumiya just stop dancing around a Hardware limitation...!
imagine fighting damien, you throw out 1 pokemon and he throws out 15
ProtoMario said "So MLG" my life is complete.
You forgot person who abandoned charmander had saw us many pokeballs
Poor treeko, it's not in the background. (Top left)
how about if we could carry as many pokemon as we wanted, battles would take ages
doesn't make sense the pokemon league says you can only register 6 pokemon for a battle most. it never said how many pokemon can be on your persons at one time
+Bob Wilson see pokemon tournament is a sport and every sport ha some rules those are just rules like why not 4 teams in soccer
Jesie Cruz for example if I had 667 pokemon ( good thing I did. Not put another6 ) it would take ages to battle. And you can't quit it might take a whole day depending on how much pokemon the opponent has so that why
Instead of improving your starter and the 5 weak pokes you get in the start you could just stack tons of low lvl pokes and do 4 times better
trainers dont battle well unless you are in the manga universe were villains just tell their pokemon to attack the trainers
Always just assumed that it's because it would be unfair in case you battle someone and they have three pokemon and you have 86.
I agree
Anyone here 2020? Proto does still actually upload but the algorithm killed him..
I here 2020
no that's not the reason, I read this in Pokemon adventures, the real reason is the trainer can't give as much love and affection for 7 or more Pokemon so six or lower is a good number
Simple answer. To be organized and have a limit in there tournaments like come a bat toe with 100 Pokemon vs 100 Pokemon level 100 would take for ever
Combat* plus just 6 Pokemon is enough to kill one human trainer XD
UNLEASH, THE MAGIKARPS!
SuperSaiyanMaze Someone make a video about this!!!!
Well most of them are as they are preteens and teens though bkss man Giovanni isn'the ia just straight up villian for tr. Team aqua and magma where very misguided and past thati just dk
SuperSaiyanMaze You may think team Rocket is good but for Giovani there was only ONE goal. MONEY. He would do ANYTHING to get money.
Artho Chakravorthy Just because the government is bad doesn't mean the rebels are good.
SuperSaiyanMaze From what I gather neither is really "good" it might be more of a lesser of two evils sort of situation.
You know what screw the 6 pokemon rule I would still only use my Pikachu to deal with those trainers
Thank you for apologising. :) No harm, no foul.
Gar1onriva You know I have seen some of your videos since then,
I hope you enjoyed them.
Gar1onriva Yeah I do quite alot, but I have one bit of advice.
You have pauses quite a bit and it feels like it breaks the flow, if you got rid of those I think your videos would flow alot better.
Remember when Proto use to Try and act like The Game Theorist?
I think I've figured it out. You can in fact have at least 6 pokemon but you can only have 6 pokeballs with pokemon active. Any other pokemon have to be not bound to ANY sort of pokemon. Both Greevil and Ghetsis have 6 pokemon tied to pokeballs and 1 pokemon not tied to a pokeball
Three trainers follow ash 6 balls each 666 Illuminati confirmed.
I was waiting for an illuminate comment😂😂
*Insert Iluminati *
Jahmari Brown me too😝
Cirucci Sanderwicci ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Cirucci Sanderwicci wow that's crazy I never realized that until now
But Proto !! how come Ashs pokemon teleport to the PC, but Damiens didnt ??
Cause Damien didn't have a dex. Cause he stole his starter. LOL nah, Idk. Ignore that
Toxiking Kanto If Damian broke the rules already by abandoning his Pokemon, then it's obvious he'd throw away his Dex.
ProtoMario yup, rules aren't always followed.
ProtoMario
I still feel like the PC itself tracks the number of pokemon youve withdrawn and limits you to six.. i still dont know how Damien would get past that though

You know, in the pokemon mangas, the 6 pokemon limit isn't there.
In the manga Pokemon Adventures Oak says that a trainer can carry more than six Pokemon at a time if it needs to be done but how in the word is the trainer going to give all these Pokemon all the love and attention they need. so isn't that the answer? Cause I thought is was.
+Nice99 yup in pokemon adventures volume 10 where prof oak says this to prof elm.
TC Coltharp well said. I was totaly thinking sometihng very similar
I honestly find it hilarious how much this series makes fun of the comment section. Keep up the good work!
Why the fuck did I watch this.
This wasn't even a proper explanation. ...
I actually have two Shiny Arceus'! I got 'em in Japan while I was over there....I think it was for like Pokemon Movie 19 or summat.
i got a Shiny Arceus with a steel plate from a trade, i gave my Dialga for it.
Strange trade huh?
Not sure if he hacked it in though..
because 666,trust me I'm Jesus
+Jesus The Jews did this...
+darkmanknight1 it is if u christian
Sophia
your full name is Sophia Sophhia Newbury Domingez-Roberta II
+Sophia Newbury of course he not the real jesus. Tf would he be doin on youtube.
If anyone of you agree pls like
This kind of explained nothing? Why six? Why not five?
+Fu Baozi 6 is an even number
I saw somewhere, in the manga i think, that the limit was stablish so the treiners could actually give just the right amount of attention to each one of their pokemon. I know it's a lame excuse, but i'm pretty sure it's some legit information.
what about the 4 attacks limit
no actually pokemon just cant learn more then four moves for instance meowth learned to talk wich took up a space so he can only leanr three moves
that is actually stupid
+StuckDucks drake dragonite in anime knows like 10 attacks
+SemiCircle no drake dragonite in anime has like 10 moves
But proto my 30 shiny mewtwos are leget
Beanz448 My 6 magikarps are more legit
chainsawplayin but r dey shiny?
Kjosh Waddell
not shiney
+chainsawplayin fake and gey
It teleporting out of Ash hands is creepy. Holding more than 6 does not seem wrong if Team Rocket can steal hundreds.
i waz the 480k sub

big waste of time. Not cool Protomario
Read the Crystal Arc in Pokemon Adventures(Special), Professor Oak and and Professor Elm discuss why it is hard to train more than 6 Pokemon at a time, in this chapter Crystal has trouble keeping 7 of them together.
wynaut:hey guys ones i killed pokemons
wynaut:other people say why u did that
wynaut:and i said "wynaut"
like if u liked it
I'm pretty sure the reason is they can only fit 6 on their belt... and if they put them in their bag they'd pop open randomly or get crushed
I read this I a book or saw it on Pokemon that the reason that there only 6 that you carry is because the average Pokemon trainer could handle that many compared to Pokemon professors and that some time the professors need to analyze the poke to make sure that you can keep them and battle and every thing that is the real reason 100%.
You have some mind blowing and convincing theories.
It is said by prof oak in the Pokemon manga that you can have more than 6 but you can't give them enough love and attention if you do
It's 6 because that made for a good plot point.
