3:45 small correction: Delta is not Latin for four. Four in Latin is “quattuor“. However Delta is the fourth letter in the Greek alphabet hence the connection between Delta and four. Other than that amazing video!
Correction, while delta is not how four is pronounced in greek, the letter was also a digit 4 in ancient greek Delta is four in greek - not correct δ was 4 in ancient greek - correct
uppercase delta (which is an isosceles triangle shape) is also the character most often used in math and physics to represent change. while the cards use lowercase delta, it's possible that this is another deliberate connection.
Holon basically has a entire regional dex made up of Regional Forms and I kinda wish we’d get that in the main games. Also, can we please get Holon in the main games as well? Lol
As a child I remember being surprised when not every pokemon tcg expansion had lore, bc I grew up with Holon and delta species before even playing the video games
Holon does have a few mechanical issues: -The trainer engine in Delta Species was so dominant that it became a significant financial barrier to new players and caused a fair amount of resentment. -Metal and Dark didn't become basic energy until generation 4. -Lightning was overused and lightning resistance seemed to virtually disappear in this era.

Delta pokémon and the Holon tower are so prominent in fanmade games and I never stopped to think about where they actually came from, couldn't have imagined it was the TCG
This is actually sick dude. My headcanon is that the crystals on the island are Teracrystals that have been around so long that its permanently affected the native pokemon and the very land itself. Like imagine if the Tera energy is so strong here that it's in the air itself, and that's how things like the tower can alter pokemon. Just having electricity react with the air is enough to change the type of pokemon.
Holon is important in my pokemon tabletop setting's lore. Being the origin of manmade pokemon type changes, and said setting having an evil team recreating the delta species disaster/phenomena on a global scale.
Kinda reminds me of the shadow Pokémon of orre in Pokémon colosseum. Honestly would be a cool rpg setting, even if it didn’t have gyms like the GameCube game
Um... where do you get "delta is Latin for four?" Delta is the fourth letter of the _Greek_ alphabet, as well as the the scientific symbol for change. Which is where I always assumed delta species came from, the fact that they had changed types.
Changing types, mysterious crystals, all revolving around a laboratory in the middle of the region and enigmatic ancient ruins? I have a sneaking suspicion that ScVi was going to be set here in an earlier draft.
Holon is also the home of Mew, and in the main series, it's the South American country of Guyana (until a later game eventually retcons it like every other mention of a real world country). It's been well documented that most of Paldea's Pokémon seem more linked to the Iberian colonies in South America than the actual Iberian nations (Portugal and Spain) themselves, especially the starters. So you may be on to something.
Honestly this sounds like a great game, it'd be a nightmare for competitive and take a great deal of added work I imagine but: Making an entire region out of regional forms sounds like a genuinely cool idea. Though it's likely not much less work than just making 300+ new pokemon.
Kinda weird to call a single research facility in the middle of a forest an entire "region", would make more sense for the forest to be the region, though would more likely just be some part of a typical region unless the forest is quite large 🤔
Everyone always mentions Holon as a TCG-exclusive region but never the Southern Islands, Puzzle Continent and Parallel Worlds. Also when it comes to forgotten spin-off locations it's not just Almia. There's also Fiore, Oblivia, Pokémon Island (which in spite of the game's popularity, is a name I doubt anyone even remembers), Mintale Town, Ransei (wonder how many people even played that one?) , Ferrum, Lental, Carmonte Island (it was taken from us far too soon), Tumblecube Island and while it's still relevant, I doubt anyone even knows that Unite takes place on Aeos Island.
This is amazing and well documented. Thanks for the video! Never played the TCG but knew the Delta Species. Loved to know more about it. Never knew anything related to this Holon region. :D
One of my favorite group sets and would love to see this region made into a game. I'd imagine they couldn't be transfered to other games, or have their typings reverted to their originals to be able to transfer. Could be a Legends type game where you fill out your research/Pokédex on the differently typed Pokémon.
Oh.. my... gosh.. i was todays years old when i realised that "Holon Magnetilo" is not some kind of Holo Card but instead just a Magnetilo from another region ...
The EX Delta Species Latias has been my favorite card since I was a kid. Have my original copy and a Grade 10 version, but never knew why it was Metal/Electric until now
Man I loved the delta species pokemon a lot! I dipped out of the tcg when Diamond and Pearl started, but this was an awesome finale imo. Truly wished this was in the games as well but alas, twas not meant to be
This was a cool video and I'm glad I watched it because I had that electric Charizard card growing up (and I think an electric Charmander too?), but I was told that it was fake and that always bothered me.
Just before 4 min, the explanation of Delta - I think it's more likely because delta is an abbreviation used in science for change. (Like if T stands for temperature, delta-T stands for change in temperature). Fits the Holon research theme.
The Pokemon TCG is pretty crazy. I don't think we'll ever see a lot of the stuff from the TCG in the games, even if the newer Switch games are doing similar stuff.
My favorite deck was a Phoebe's Stadium Sableye Delta Ninetales deck It countered practically all the EX Decks that I fought against, only struggled against EX Delta Flygon because my Safeguard Pokemon didn't stop bench damage.
while the matter of being the "fourth" variant of pokemon could be an incidental pun (mind you, that's assuming we only count the mechanics you listed, and not things like dark/light pokemon, or owner's pokemon from earlier sets) it's much more likely in reference to the matter of change- "Delta" also has a meaning indicating change in value, which to my knowledge is its most common usage, just as Delta Species Pokemon are defined by a change in their typing- a much more tangible and thematic meaning than simply being the Fourth Variant
Huh so this is why people were saying Delta Pokémon when sun and moon revealed regional variants. I had always assumed it was from a popular fan game or something.
I actually had the Holon cards back in the day when I played the TCG. I always thought the Pokémon and region was cool. I'd love to see it again and developed more.
Crystal island with crystals with mysterious powers ? Sounds like early teracrystals to me ! Now that's a headcanon I will have, maybe this Crystal island is probably inspired by Madeira and maybe the Dragon Islands are Açores, yet still considered part of Holon, explaining why they aren't explored in SV.
This will never happen at this point, but it would be so cool if they did another single player Pokemon TCG video game with the Hoenn sets and set it in the Holen region (fangame anyone?)
Idk a lot of people are talking so much about the ex delta series lately. Maybe becuase of the 20 year nostalgia cycle. Thats the series I got more cards from.
They should bringing Fire Aerodactyl as regional pokemon And made fight Fire Aerodactyl vs Duraludon ruclips.net/video/MSxPLPaTAxo/видео.htmlsi=G0j4l2p0Z8cREtJ_
Super confusing, especially since it was a Gen III set. I didn't have the RPGs at the time so I had just thought "Holon" was how Hoenn was spelled when I played the TCG.
3:45 small correction: Delta is not Latin for four. Four in Latin is “quattuor“. However Delta is the fourth letter in the Greek alphabet hence the connection between Delta and four. Other than that amazing video!
Rayquaza is also associated with Delta in the games
Correction, while delta is not how four is pronounced in greek, the letter was also a digit 4 in ancient greek
Delta is four in greek - not correct
δ was 4 in ancient greek - correct
I was thinking the same 😅
saying "delta is latin for four" with full confidence took me out 😂
uppercase delta (which is an isosceles triangle shape) is also the character most often used in math and physics to represent change. while the cards use lowercase delta, it's possible that this is another deliberate connection.
Holon basically has a entire regional dex made up of Regional Forms and I kinda wish we’d get that in the main games. Also, can we please get Holon in the main games as well? Lol
Yeah that would be awesome
Holon would be really cool for a Legends game
Gen 11 with a legends game in gen 10
Rayquaza's Mega Evolution initially was called to be Delta Evolution.
regional forms and later tera borrow from the delta species and giving type changes
As a child I remember being surprised when not every pokemon tcg expansion had lore, bc I grew up with Holon and delta species before even playing the video games
Pretty sure the ‘delta’ in delta species is referring to its usage as a representation of change.
Almost 10 years back in 2005? So the video is 9 years old?
... I didn't even register why that felt weird. I am okd.
It was probably just when those cards were made
@BlackRoseLN "...was in that moment that they realized that this channel is a big ARG" 😂😂😂
Nop, at the moment is 2 days old
Super common for people to not want 2005 to be 20 years ago. Our brains are fun like that
Holon does have a few mechanical issues:
-The trainer engine in Delta Species was so dominant that it became a significant financial barrier to new players and caused a fair amount of resentment.

My favorite region ever... 2021 we had a new Delta Species Pokémon revealed as "SWSH Black Star Promo", a Water-type Mimikyu with the crystals.
This was cool to learn about, i love how the Pokemon cards can have their own lore and story and the art is always so amazing.
Um... where do you get "delta is Latin for four?" Delta is the fourth letter of the _Greek_ alphabet, as well as the the scientific symbol for change. Which is where I always assumed delta species came from, the fact that they had changed types.

TPC doesn’t get that meta with the lore. Most of the connections we get are Easter eggs or fan drawn conclusions the lore actually isn’t deep at all.
@thestone8187 Not talking about lore. Talking about the drafting process.
I highly doubt that

Holon is easily the coolest thing to come out of the tcg. I really wish they would do full worldbuilding with it again.
0:45 I wish it was 2015 😂
It’s always fun to learn something new! I loved the delta species cards as a kid but I never knew there was actual lore to them
The recent leaks contained hi-res 3D renders of Holon used for the cards. Imagine if there was a Pokémon Trading Card Game 3 set in Holon.
Nope, you get pokemon sleep.
Fun fact: the fan-game pokemon insurgence has a lot of delta pokemon in it
The region is called Holon too!
Yesss thank you for making this! I've always wanted to see someone make a fangame of Holon, hope it comes to exist someday!
Honestly this sounds like a great game, it'd be a nightmare for competitive and take a great deal of added work I imagine but: Making an entire region out of regional forms sounds like a genuinely cool idea. Though it's likely not much less work than just making 300+ new pokemon.
I own some of these cards from when I was a kid, but never knew this lore! Cool.
Kinda weird to call a single research facility in the middle of a forest an entire "region", would make more sense for the forest to be the region, though would more likely just be some part of a typical region unless the forest is quite large 🤔

I remember growing up with these sets, these are the best sets in the entire tcg imo
Now it wouldn't be a Holon's Pokemon but a Holoan Pokemon. (Holoan Dragonite or whatever)
This region needed to be canon so bad
Never played the tcg (only video games) and I’m low key in awe of how cool this concept sounds
what’s the bg music in the beginning? it’s so familiar
I always wondered why I had some random Holon's Magnemite in my collection, glad to finally have context!
I've never even heard of this it was after I stopped playing the tcg. Pretty cool stuff
10 years and it is 2005? Are u Stuck my bro?
They're stuck in 2015
Ugh talk about a silly mistake 😅
Take me back bro
Step-bro are you stuck?
This is amazing and well documented. Thanks for the video! Never played the TCG but knew the Delta Species. Loved to know more about it. Never knew anything related to this Holon region. :D
Thanks so much!

Oh.. my... gosh.. i was todays years old when i realised that "Holon Magnetilo" is not some kind of Holo Card but instead just a Magnetilo from another region ...
I really wish pokemon would go back to this style of creativity when it came to their set releases
Beta Paldea
The EX Delta Species Latias has been my favorite card since I was a kid. Have my original copy and a Grade 10 version, but never knew why it was Metal/Electric until now
Man I loved the delta species pokemon a lot!
I dipped out of the tcg when Diamond and Pearl started, but this was an awesome finale imo.

Its surprising how there isn't a rom hack with the Holon region as it's setting.
There is. Pokemon Insurgence
I was obsessed with this as a child. I wanted all the holon related cards (I didn't have money and probably got 5 packs total lol)
Pretty cool, if I got more into card collecting these sets are probably what I'd look for.
Just before 4 min, the explanation of Delta - I think it's more likely because delta is an abbreviation used in science for change. (Like if T stands for temperature, delta-T stands for change in temperature). Fits the Holon research theme.
What an entertaining video you did an amazing job with it
Omg the second he mispronounced the holon region my brain lit up with flashbacks well done my guy
I really loved the idea of Delta Pokemon, I really wished they'd've been introduced in the main games and given proper forms.
Great breakdown of this lore!
The Pokemon TCG is pretty crazy. I don't think we'll ever see a lot of the stuff from the TCG in the games, even if the newer Switch games are doing similar stuff.
My favorite deck was a Phoebe's Stadium Sableye Delta Ninetales deck

"there is not a single normal pokemon to be found here"
Pupitar disagrees!
Huh so this is why people were saying Delta Pokémon when sun and moon revealed regional variants. I had always assumed it was from a popular fan game or something.
Man, a lot of these would make awesome events/special pokemon mystery gifts 🎁
Like, say now with Terras give them a delta type Terra abd an exclusive move it wouldn't know like a shiny Charizard dark terra with dark pulse
Delta means change
Holon will always be a special place👏
Oh, Holon! I've heard about it thanks to Pokémon Insurgence, but I'm happy to hear more actually about it!
Currently trying to master the Delta Species set right now (minus the Gold Stars, because yeesh). I absolutely adore the set.
I actually had the Holon cards back in the day when I played the TCG. I always thought the Pokémon and region was cool. I'd love to see it again and developed more.
i like how the old card used 3d style artwork instead of 2d cartoon art
Crystal island with crystals with mysterious powers ? Sounds like early teracrystals to me !
Now that's a headcanon I will have, maybe this Crystal island is probably inspired by Madeira and maybe the Dragon Islands are Açores, yet still considered part of Holon, explaining why they aren't explored in SV.
And Rakua that searching in Horizons probably located in Holon
Almost 10 years? You mean almost 20! Yes... we are all that old, still fawning over a children's game 😂
My favorite Delta pokemon was a fighting type Blastoise I got as a kid
Holon region?
You get delta hoopa there
I have cards from Holon Phantoms, and always figured it was another name for Holographic 😂
oh boy i think the stocks of delta species cards will rise after this video
I loved these sets it had me so interested as a 7 year old. You had to be there.
It be cool if legends Z-A have a pokemon card mini game to it, it be just like pokemon tcg
This will never happen at this point, but it would be so cool if they did another single player Pokemon TCG video game with the Hoenn sets and set it in the Holen region (fangame anyone?)
I have a few delta species cards, I didn’t know they came with lore.
It's like.......the pokemon company has all they need to make such a great pokemon tcg game around these cards.
Could melmetal be from this region?
I think they are from Orre
I wonder if this is what the fan game Pokemon Insurgence drew inspiration from
The moment you realize holons lore is literally pokemon insurgence
Pokemon Insurgence's region was called Holon
@kazzakoool ...oh .....it's been awhile lol that makes sense tho
The delta symbol is used to mean change or difference in science and math. Like how the pokemon change types
the geography of Luminoise City and the crystals of Paldea 🤔
i always thought holon was this tcg exclusive unique trainer. haha i was dumb🙈
Aaah, yes, delta species😂. I love them
Interesting that those crystals are similar to Terastal 🤔
I think i have/had the Delta Ludicolo card... it looks familiar
They probably chose delta due to it representing change in science and math
dude they 1 million percent based scarlet and violet on this
Can't believe Pokémon invented Holland 😂
i never knew anything about this and it's really cool.
Idk a lot of people are talking so much about the ex delta series lately. Maybe becuase of the 20 year nostalgia cycle. Thats the series I got more cards from.
Brother, 2005 was twenty years ago.
I wish 2005 was almost 10 years ago... '_'
What about the world for the game boy tcg game
Delta pokemon and crystal guardians. Hmmmm. HMMMMMMMM...
They should bringing Fire Aerodactyl as regional pokemon
And made fight Fire Aerodactyl vs Duraludon
ruclips.net/video/MSxPLPaTAxo/видео.htmlsi=G0j4l2p0Z8cREtJ_
My home!
the 5g towers are turning us into steel type pokemon
Delta is greek and is the letter used to symbolize change.... and it is not latin for four

we goin back to holon in gen 10
Holon is a bit too close to hoenn imo lol
Super confusing, especially since it was a Gen III set. I didn't have the RPGs at the time so I had just thought "Holon" was how Hoenn was spelled when I played the TCG.
It does exist in the fan game Pokémon insurgence
Dutch?
Delta is greek not roman.
