Been using this to teach new friends for about 12 years now. But yeah, this video is VERY good at explaining the entire motion, using your body, not your arms for power.
I second that brotha! And I have a tourney I just signed up for in a couple weeks! I did 12 holes today at Stevens Creek County Park (Villa Maria) and it was a pretty nice course but what does this Noob know about courses. Great video for sure!
@@scubaman2003 I think thats how most of us start out. The first few times playing are gonna be rough. Most first timers throw the disc way too high in the air, causing it to break way left and crash to the ground. I've been there and honestly I still have the occasional throw where the disc comes our of my hand early and it gets too much air. Can't get any distance when this happens. It'll get better though and it'll feel good once you get those first couple flat throws that cut through the air and hover at just the right height.
The video helped this 63 year old beginner a LOT. I was getting really frustrated at lack of distance I was getting with my throws. Before viewing this I didn't realize how far off I was in my understanding and execution of some very basic fundamentals. Love the entire series.
I’ve been playing for a couple years but never had success at improving consistency of grip and throw. This helped more than anything else I’ve seen or was told
I love yalls videos because you guys slow things down so much and explain in detail but also just move through the motions slower. Tomas actually takes his time and does soft throws to explain and show us. As a new player these videos are so beneficial. All these other pro players doing tutorials whip the disc so fast I can't follow there movements good enough to actually learn.
I have seen other Manufacturer's videos provide similar instruction. The big difference to me is the presentation. The L64 videos are high quality and very entertaining. I'm hooked.
Back into disc golf after about a 20-year hiatus. These video are the best I’ve found. Informative, practical, applicable, and damned funny, too! Thanks so very much!
The tip from Tomas at 6:16 is something that I struggled with for a long time - I was trying to "pull" with my whole arm from the reach back which resulted in rounding a lot of my shots, but once I started to throw with just my shoulder/elbow, I began pulling much more straight and had better results.
This was super helpful. I'm a beginner and am just getting into this wonderful sport at 33. I can't stop watching coverage and learning how to get better now haha. Will for sure be picking up a few Latitude discs! The lawn mower analogy really clicked things into place for me with the throw!
Previously, I also used the "whatever" grip. Today, I used the grips and stances in your video for the first time. After few practice holes, teeing off and mid-range shots were comfortable; putting still needs work. Thank you for this video. It helps a lot as I am just starting out.
As a noob I watched this video 4 months ago and again today. (along with all of Latitude 64 videos and every other video associated with disc Golf). I have to say, Jonathan , Tomas and Johannes are the best instructors I've seen and by far the funniest. It's a joy to watch. BTW Jonathan I hit 300 feet today with my Saint, it was like a home run. You should have seen me doing the happy dance you would have been proud. Thanks again, maybe I'll catch up with you on a course someday.
To me this video has noticeably better production value and the editing was great. Very nice to see Lat64 up their media game. I have made several changes this year and proper grip was one of the biggest things that helped. I think a video series with Tomas and Jonathan going over different shot types such as anhyzer, forehand ect would be great!
The cues that Tomas gives are fantastic. Also the enjoyment of learning in this video series makes me come back for more and more! You all are the best.
I went by myself today to practice since I've only just learned myself that I need to drag it across my chest. And I threw it much farther I was feeling really accomplished! I had a lot of privacy except for one point, I was surrounded by two groups of people to my left and right. I felt like everyone was watching me as I went to throw my two discs. One disc went sharp right and the other sharp left -_- It was so embarrassing. They were beyond bad shots and I was like WHY because I've been shooting accurately all day! I have such terrible stage fright. Tis a curse.
I'm a guy over forty, and a total noob. I find it kind of endearing that kids way smaller than me are throwing so incredibly well, and some of the other adults are as poor as me.
having played for about a year now and the best part about this is seeing the results, just did some throws after a round at my local course today to practice my drives and got one out 122m (400) with an opto ballista and got my Halo Tern out 116m (380)... Starting to feel like I'm getting good distance, now I just wanna keep working on my form to get more consistency and better accuracy... Focus now is really just to slow things down, used to be I tried having a fast run-up in order to keep that momentum going through the throw, problem was I ended up struggling with controlling my release angles etc. Now I'm trying to just have a slow run up really focusing on getting my reach back and then just exploding through which ultimately has led to better angles and more distance on average. Feel like I can consistently get out past 100m on my drives now which feels great...
Awesome video. I just started in 2017. I was taught the lawnmower technique, which was awesome because I was and still am a firefighter. At the time my station had a hard to start k 12 saw. So the pull cord teaching reference just hit home with me. Thabks for the vid!
REALLY great video. Love the concept of watching a brand new player of the game slowly refine their throwing techniques with pro disc golfers assisting like this. I can foresee in the future episodes dialing in back hand more then moving to various shot angles, hyzer anhyzer shots. Putting. Forehands all the way to scramble shots like grenades and thumbers etc. Maybe some episodes on disk selection and disc stabilities. Keep in up. Subscribed.
I throw further with a stable driver after this than with an understable one before. Tbh I couldn't get a stable disc straight before at all. Amazing info, love latitude discs.
I started playing about 2 years ago. I could only throw Sidearm in the "Grip it, rip it and pray" style. That approach caused me to tear my rotator cuff 6 months in. Its taken me a year and a half to recover, I thought I'd never play again until I came across your video with Mr. Ekström. After watching this video several times I started to think maybe I can do this, Because of you and Mr. Ekström I have started playing again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these great videos. I am and will forever be in you and Mr. Ekström debt.
I would like a to see a video on release points and flight paths for a variety of disc types. I’d also like a detailed explanation of the glide, turn, and fade numbers on discs and how they impact the flight of the disc. Speed is straightforward but the other three I have not taken into account up to this point
The speed is always the main factor of how the disc flies. The other three are not that important. Glide- how much the disc glides aka how far you can throw it with its a throw that matches the discs speed value. High glide discs are good for beginners but buying a low glide disc is not that bad either for newer players. The last 2 numbers are strongly linked together the stability or turn and the last number the fade. Turn affects how much the disc turns when its thrown as hard as the first flight number speed shows (Disc with with -2 turn and speed of 5 will turn over more than speed 14 and -2 turn disc because it needs more speed to get that turnover) Turn over indicates how much the disc turns over; goes to the opposite direction of fade! Then the fade number indicates what type of fade and how fast the disc fades. 0 fade means little to no fade; only fades when trhown upward with too low speed. 3-2 is normal fade for a drivers. I suggest watching all of the videos that "Best disc gold discs" has done it helped me to understand a lot. Sry if I am bad at explaining. Edit: ruclips.net/user/Bestdiscgolfdiscs This channel will help you a lot!!
Played a 9-hole (27 par) course today using everything I've learned so far and shot 28! I have never came that close to shooting par. I still have a lot work, but DAMN, 28! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I have autism and Ive been getting into disc golfing this video is very very awesome. much love to you friend you're doing so great! A brilliant expirement also
I have watched this video a few times, but never tried Tomas' grip method. Today I did. Pinched my pinkie and thumb together, put the disc in between, curled in my fingers and threw. Amazing....they were the best throws ever. Thank you!
I laughed all the way through. Thank you for being informative as well as entertaining. I haven't thrown yet, but will be playing next week for the first time!
Two of these videos have really helped me out. I have 2 friends who have been playing for years and I feel like I needed some tips to catch up to them. I've only ever played learning on my own and using Any disc's.
pretty cool to see the difference. That advice changes quite a bit though, depending on experience & perspective. The 'start a lawnmower' can be misleading or right on point. Good video though - always cool to see instruction and new people doing it.
I have only one Lat 64 disc in my bag at this moment, Devan Owens Opto X River. I love it, thinking about adding a Fuse and a Pure to my bag. I have a mixed bag to spread the love, your plastics are some of the nicest to the touch.
I highly recommend both the Pure and the Fuse. This is coming from someone who bags mostly Innova and Discmania. The Pure I carry in Medium Zero and Opto-X plastics. The Fuse is the most recent addition to my bag. I liked it so much, I ordered two more as gifts for my friends.
This is awesome! I've recently wanted to get back into disc golf I even dug up all my old discs. I used to go with my friends about 20 years ago and want to learn the right way to do it now.
T: Nice! J: That felt better. T: Thats' the best shot I've ever seen... J: Ever!? T: ...from you J: Oh, okay... (and the look on Jonathans face going from 100 to 10 xD ) This moment had me in tears :D Keep up the great videos and thank you for the tips and tricks.
Amazing video. So clearly explained. Thank you for sharing this. I've thrown around a bit in the yard but cannot wait to try it out on the course this weekend.
Just getting into the sport with my girl. Thanks for the knowledge. This will hopefully give us some additional confidence as the course we play gets pretty crowded.
Seeing him trying and failing at theowing the first couple times is reassuring to see. It shows the viewers, myself included, that trying and failing is just part of the process of succeeding and helps you improve faster.
I am currently in this stage of coming back to disc golf, played almost 10 games and my best was 24 over and my worst was 39...i cannot throw a consistent drive and its frustrating so here i am re learning...great video!
I am brand new to the sport a "noob" so to speak. I went with my son yesterday and we had fun, but we were awful. I'm taking him out throwing today and am going to use these tips! I will check in tomorrow and let you know how it worked out! Thank you for the video!
I got my first set of disks for Christmas this year, did my first 18 holes yesterday and love this sport! This was a great video and I cant wait to go out and apply what Tomas explains here. Thank you!
Love all this info. Just went disc golfing today for the first time and I got the power but no coordination. Lol. This will help. Thanks. Plus I love that you explain in English so my friends can understand.
Great video! Really convincing and give new players a lot of hope! A lot of disc golf instruction is just talk but you don’t get to see the results. This was different. Thank you!
Solid video. Going to play Saturday for the first time and this video has most definitely been the most informative. I'm going to make 100 throws tomorrow before we go play this weekend and will be referencing this video most often. Nice work!
Good video and fun concept with 100 disc as reference! Important fact, which i myself forget occasionally after years of playing, is that you are suppose to hold on to the disc pretty firm (hard) and not "opening" the hand in the last moment ,if you want it to go far and straight ,soooo contradictive and a non built in reflex ,hold on firm to something you want to throw away........compare the hand 5.08 to 5.55!Great work.
Definitely sharing this video, the information that Tomas was explained was easy to understand and follow. Great video Series and looking forward to seeing what's next.
I’m new to the sport also, I have bought all latitude 64 disks, one question: why the river for this demo! keep up the good videos, I have been learning a lot
Good question. I would like to answer that at the time I knew it was a quite neutral disc etc. etc. etc. and not just the fact that it was the first disc I could get a 100 of 😂😂. But I might have picked the River for this I I´d redo the video now. So was a bit lucky with the pick. Have a great day! /Jonathan
I've been playing for about a year now not everyday but about every weekend and the example of the lawn mower pull made me feel like I'm going to be able to throw back hand tomorrow for the first time Confidently
First off, I've been playing disc golf for about 20 years now. What I mean by playing disc golf is just playing a casual round with a couple friends, or here lately, just by myself. I've been addicted to it since the first time I played. I got talked into going to a local course here in Memphis, course called Shelby Forest. It's probably the most popular course here as it's perfect for players of all skill levels. Most the holes are short so it's perfect for beginners who haven't mastered throwing yet, and most the holes are in the middle of a fairly dense forest so there's tons of trees, elevation changes, and other challenges for the more advanced players. I've never done a league or competed in a tourney or bag tag, only the occasional round here and there so I do not consider myself an advanced disc golfer by any means. I've played for 20 years but my skill level does not reflect that. I've ALWAYS struggled with getting good distance on my throws. I've had players and friends offer me tips and try to explain what I'm doing wrong but nothing has really stuck with me. I know my main issue is I don't put enough hip into it. I've always excelled at sports that involve throwing or rolling so I'm pretty certain arm strength or speed is the issue. I always feel like when I run up there to throw, if I take my eyes off the target then I'll toss it completely off line or sideways. Having this in the back of my mind is like preventing me from turning my hips back enough to generate any real torque. I think I'm probably trying to do it all with my arm when in reality I should be incorporating my legs and hips more. But knowing what the problem is, and addressing the problem are 2 completely different things lol. I watch a video and I think to myself "that's it! That's all I need to do and I'll be throwing 300 feet consistently." But I go out there to throw a couple days later and I never seem to be able to replicate what I've watched in the video. Another problem or issue I may have is I think i may be gripping the disc too tightly. If I can find a way to let a little tension out of my grip, maybe I can get more of a whipping motion out of my arm?? I watch these disc golfers in these videos and they always seem to get a nice, fluid swing or hinging action out of their arm where I feel like I'm throwing a backfist when I throw, good arm speed but not enough twist from my hips and torso, and I'm almost certain I'm not following through enough with my arm when I release the disc. I almost feel like my arm ends up in the same position as this guy in the video when he throws his first couple discs, and the disc goes up in the air instead of on a flat plane. After watching this video though, I do want to try a couple things; keeping my back foot slightly more back and to the side(closed stance) and slightly cocking my back foot slightly back instead of perpendicular. Maybe like a 45 degree angle?? When the instructor showed how much more you can bring your arm back by slightly bringing that back foot out, it made perfect sense to me and irs something I never thought to do. So with adjusting my feet on the approach and incorporating more twist in my body, maybe easing off on the grip so it's firm but not a death grip, I'm hoping doing these things finally helps me get more power out of my throws. I love throwing disc golf, even though I'm not as good as I should be given the length of time I've been playing. I really do want to improve though, just never really had anyone thay could explain exactly what I need to do. Wish there was someone locally when was a disc golf instructor.....I'd gladly pay for some good advice from someone who can actually help my game.
This is fantastic loving the content and I feel like it's really helping me learn the sport just went out and bought two new discs because I have just been using the basic 3 set and am looking forward to working on my putting and all the other things I need to do to become a decent player! ^^ much love.
Another tip is you wanna rotate on the ball of you foot instead of your toes, you can lose a lot of power rotating on the toe. But the best tip for distance is start your pull through slow then when your disc is parallel with your chest accelerate your arm swing as much as you can.
And hearing him say “feets” as well. LoL It’s just harmless fun that I’m poking at, don’t mean to be insulting, it just sounds cute. As a lifelong student of foreign language myself, I’m well aware that people who can speak multiple languages effectively are impressive individuals.

Can't say I ever do what I'm told!
Like "starting a lawn mower" was the best explaination of reachback and pull I've ever heard.
Now I gotta go try it!
Been using this to teach new friends for about 12 years now. But yeah, this video is VERY good at explaining the entire motion, using your body, not your arms for power.
i got that when i started, extremely effective
Incorporate that into a waling start for those drives an youll be set
That’s how I was properly taught. Dude said “it’s like starting a lawn mower and slapping a midget”
As a total noob. This is pure gold!
Will definitely help me Thanks
I second that brotha! And I have a tourney I just signed up for in a couple weeks! I did 12 holes today at Stevens Creek County Park (Villa Maria) and it was a pretty nice course but what does this Noob know about courses. Great video for sure!

J: Oh, okay... (and the look on Jonathans face going from 100 to 10 xD )
This moment had me in tears :D
Keep up the great videos and thank you for the tips and tricks.
Best explanation on how to move body and arm I’ve seen on RUclips, I’m new to the sport, Subscribed keep stuff coming
Welcome. Nice to have you here :)
This is really solid tips, i really liked the "hit with your armbow" explanation!
65 year old beginner here and backhanding without a run yet. The tip on moving the back foot one foot length back just fixed my mechanics. Thanks.
Hey Matt! That´s great /Jonathan
Amazing video. So clearly explained. Thank you for sharing this. I've thrown around a bit in the yard but cannot wait to try it out on the course this weekend.
I'm glad you liked the video, Ray. Let me know if it helped :) /jonathan
Still very new to Disc Golf and this video helped me a lot.
Thank you!
I´m glad you liked the video and the sport over all :) /Jonathan
Very helpful, especially the "lawnmower rope pull" analogy.
The elbow hit made me see it better…thanks for the advice!
7:39 that was the best tutorial i haver i have evere seeeen
Wonderful content! That practice range looks beautiful!
Omg! Thank you. I frolf every weekend and I have been having trouble with my throws. Finally I've got it right. thanks again :)
Love all this info. Just went disc golfing today for the first time and I got the power but no coordination. Lol. This will help. Thanks.
Plus I love that you explain in English so my friends can understand.
Thanks for this. We are learning to play and instruction like this helps guide us.
Mindblown!!!
I got better throws at the first try after watching this ❤
I will be implementing these techniques this weekend with my latitude disc. Great vids.
I'd love to see more videos like this.
Glad you like it! And there will be :) /Jonathan
This video was incredibly helpful for me. To have someone spell out on which foot the weight should be throughout the movement. Thank you
Great video! Really convincing and give new players a lot of hope! A lot of disc golf instruction is just talk but you don’t get to see the results. This was different. Thank you!
I'm glad you like the video, George :) /Jonathan
This was really useful! He's a good teacher and this is a nice format.
That’s the best shot I have ever seen...
Ever?
From you!
Oh, okay .
:D
😂
Really clever video. Love how he's acting like a beginner so its easier to understand. Also love the before and after concept
Haha I wish I was acting. But I can assure you that it´s 100 percent real :) /Jonathan
This series is fantastic and takes some guts on Jonathan's part. Really great content.
Was really interesting to see the 100 discs before and after. Quite the improvement!
Solid video. Going to play Saturday for the first time and this video has most definitely been the most informative. I'm going to make 100 throws tomorrow before we go play this weekend and will be referencing this video most often. Nice work!
This feels really helpful! Just played my first 9 of disc golf with my son, we had a blast. Now I need to learn how to actually do it. Lol
I think this will help my game... Gonna work at these tips this Saturday
Some amazing teaching techniques and key words and ideas to help you understand how to throw better, can't wait to get out and throw! Thank you!
Looking forward to more of this type of content
Good video and fun concept with 100 disc as reference! Important fact, which i myself forget occasionally after years of playing, is that you are suppose to hold on to the disc pretty firm (hard) and not "opening" the hand in the last moment ,if you want it to go far and straight ,soooo contradictive and a non built in reflex ,hold on firm to something you want to throw away........compare the hand 5.08 to 5.55!Great work.
Great input. Thank you :)
@@Latitude64You´re welcome (sett tendensen hos min son, nybörjare, att "släppa" discen). Will follow this and hoping for sequels.......
@@mikaelschloenzig9590 Jag förstår. Jag ska ha det i bakhuvudet nästa gång och se ifall jag gör detsamma :)
if you dont open your hand, how will the disc fly out? Ive tried that, and ended up with throwing like 90 degrees wrong !
Definitely sharing this video, the information that Tomas was explained was easy to understand and follow. Great video Series and looking forward to seeing what's next.
Very good explanations here! I'm soon hitting a course, lets see if I can put any of this into practice.
Thank you guys so much for these videos I'm new to the sport and help me a lot
Sure thing, Jesse. /Jonathan
imagine being a beginner and having access to 100 discs you could throw in an open field. Its like a dream lol
I just ordered you starter set an royal 4 box and I can't wait for the to arrive
Why do I torture my self watching these videos in the winter
You’re scared of winter? Pitty.
You could move to a better climate. Then you could play in the winter. Today is 1/28 and it's going to be 78 outside my home today. 😁
You can play in the winter, just put a string on the disc so you can find it in the snow.👍
I’m learning!!! Your videos are the best….. I’m also purchasing some of your disks!!
Glad you like them ❤😀
Thank you! Great presentation!
Thank you, Hélène. Have a nice day :) /Jonathan
This is fantastic loving the content and I feel like it's really helping me learn the sport just went out and bought two new discs because I have just been using the basic 3 set and am looking forward to working on my putting and all the other things I need to do to become a decent player! ^^ much love.
Glad you like it ❤
Another tip is you wanna rotate on the ball of you foot instead of your toes, you can lose a lot of power rotating on the toe. But the best tip for distance is start your pull through slow then when your disc is parallel with your chest accelerate your arm swing as much as you can.
0:40 This Kind Of Swed-Lish sounds so funny. "Geit My Ouwn Diesc"
hahahhaah yes!!
@@gitarrnerd All scandinavian countries have their own english, just look at the finnish wrc rascers, the norwegians too! Very funny!
Its not the fart that kills you, its the smell. :-) :-) ts not the speed that kills you, but the crash, unforgettable!
And hearing him say “feets” as well. LoL
It’s just harmless fun that I’m poking at, don’t mean to be insulting, it just sounds cute. As a lifelong student of foreign language myself, I’m well aware that people who can speak multiple languages effectively are impressive individuals.
Thank you for your advice!
