I have watched countless forehand videos. None of them made sense or helped. I can tell just by watching this now, that I'll be able to translate this to the real thing. Silver is one of hell of a teacher.
I agree both of them are using a more forwarded style to The target. Lots of amateurs throw their body sideways. Its way harder. Try have the disc and elbow kinda infront of you then turn your body abit in the last step.
Seriously applied this yesterday and after about 10-15 throws I started overthrowing the 285ft basket that consistently had me at 2 throws. Only been playing for a year and 250ft was all I could get out of my throws. This is working for me at least…🤷🏻♂️
I watched Silver throw an absolute bullet of a forehand from 150' (46m) straight into the basket at the Des Moines Challenge. He was playing a doubles round with Kristin and 3 other couples. His forehand is powerful, super crisp, and clean. It's impressive!
I think this information will be very beneficial. I'm new (started June 2024). I've avoided forearm because every time I tried it hurt my tennis elbow. I've found a grip I think is better for me and I actually figured out where to put my arm when I go back much like you described in the video. I'm going to apply the other concepts from your video to see if I can make some improvements. Right now my backhand is definitely farther than my forearm throws. I'm hoping that with time and practice and your tips I can change that.
Thanks Silver (and Jonathan)! The foot angle and follow through were exactly the adjustments I needed to get my forehand consistent again. SO pumped to be able to rely on it again.
I've been taking note of Silvers Forehand since watching him and Kristin at 2024 Worlds double competition. I swear he could hunt with that forehand!. It's so compact and rips out. keep it out to the right and not behind the back and foot forward has me a lot already. Stay on plane in follow through. The split finger does feel better and you can widen the split the closer you get to basket. Great video Jonathan! Now Terry Miller is going onto the black market with the tips:)
Interesting tip on the understable to stable. Of course, this has been a tip for beginners and AM's on the backhand. Never really thought about the forehand; it makes sense because the FH is so much more angle sensitive.
Also with the higher torque and lower spin rate, overstable is much more forgiving with a forehand. Once you can release them smoothly, understable discs are really fun and can get you a little more distance.
Ive been throwing forehand for 7 months now. Was using to high of a disk speed for awhile. Went down to a 7 speed for abit and felt alot better. Now I can throw a 9 speed alot farther and made a huge gap like other guys do on our local coarse. Felt so good to finally make it. 🤘✌️
I’m pretty much an exclusive forehand players and this is very helpful for me. I always bend my front leg and the disc sails up and robs me of distance. Thanks for the tips
Can´t take credit for this edit. His name is Martin. He´s from Norway. And he´s great. I´m hoping he can help out with some editing in the future. (I will also edit stuff) =) /Jonathan
disc with 0 turn and 2 fade are good for beginner forehand. Then find the speed of disc that at your max power does turn slightly, that disc is your most accurate long distance flick disc Great tip about the lead foot pointing towards the target, I never considered that now I have to go try it!
This is great! Have to try all of these tips. I have an ok forehand but lost a lot of distance recently because I have not been able to play much due to injury.
My recommendations for forehand if interested in Westside Discs are Adder, Boatman, Longbowman, and Harp. I have played forhand dominant for years. Westside makes my favorite discs. Regardless of my bag, these discs will always be in it and are my primary go-to, with Longbowman being my favorite, especially if you have lower arm speed.
First disc that comes to mind when talking about Westside Discs and Forehands is AHTI. I've tried Firebird 9 speed clones, but nothing comes close to ahti's feel, flat top and super reliable finish. ps IMO Adder is way too overstable to get any distance.
Been waiting for this video sooo long! Great content as always, thank you L64. Definitely one of the best, if not the best forehand throwers in the world teaching us to throw forehand. 💥Next Silver and Albert forehand/backhand clinic together maybe? 🤔😁
I have a disc i drive exceptionally well forehand called the dystopia from Doomsday Discs. Of all discs I have/had, it just seems to work...while the others seem to be inconsistent. Ive been throwing only forehand for over a year and have struggled until i got this disc. Just keep it low and it flies straight as an arrow. This disc has allowed me to focus on improving form while still getting a great drive out of my imperfections regardless. Ide love to find more discs like it.
Finally got my form for forehand consistent enough to use them during my round a few weeks ago 😊 My distance is still lacking tho, time to try out all the tips :) Really liked your earlier tip about the "one finger grip" though. It helped me realise that I was holding it wrong before, I could not roll my wrist, like Silver explained here.
I can't describe the anhyzer well enough, but the wobble is either bad release or, more likely, not enough arm speed. I'm 59 and I throw 12-14 speed discs about 350'-375' without wobble. I use 2 finger stacked, not split, grip. Good luck!!!
after the final words I was wondering what training helps get arm speed up. maybe you could cover that with Silver? I think that wouls be nice to know, especially if it was teianing that can be done off-season 😊
What are Silver's other two fingers doing on his grip? Is his ring finger contacting along the rim or are they both curled up under his thumb, not touching the disc? Thanks for the video!
As someone who didn’t follow through on my forehand throws and now have elbow pain I can vouch for that tip and confirm that you NEED to follow through on your throws lol
As usual, I must say that I throw short (around 75 - 80 m max), but I use a light Ballista (159 gr) for the 'long' sidearm throws, I find the best grip on this disc better than any other fairway driver...
Jonathan, are you a two-finger convert? I always took comfort in the fact that you used a one finger grip. If you've switched, are you getting more distance? I have small hands and find that I lose control/distance and increase the wobble when I try to switch to two fingers.
Throwing a flat and thin disc will help reduce wobble. Tru not pushing pressure with the tip of your thumb, instead squeeze with the base of the thumb while pointing the tip up
What actually fixed my forehand entirely was to use the other arms elbow to aim, and that quite literally made my forehand go 85 meters every time without flutter :)
Jonathan, take care of that arm! If you'd be game, I'd be interested in a "how to warm up and take care of your body for disc golf" video. I started using a resistance band to warm up after seeing a Tattar "in the bag" video where she had one. Stuff like that would be great.
It would do good to Jonathan! It tool me several years to actually learn to warm up… and now i am starting to get distance back that i did lose by hand injuries… Better learn earlier than late… trust me!
These throwing technique videos are great, however they mostly seem to be done over a day. I think giving them a bit more time would increase their depth and usefulness. For example, training and coming back to a technique a few times over the course of a month or two. Also the mythical arm speed is a thing everyone always mentions, along with a mountain of tips on correct form. But as a beginner, what is really the best way to increase speed? I feel trying to implement 10 different tips on form just makes throwing really stiff, unnatural and slow. What is really the best way to learn? Are there any exercises outside of the field we can do, etc?
Change one thing at a time. Practice until you're sure you have it right. There should be some improvement. Move on to the next aspect. Repeat. In what order should you proceed? Probably the order Silver showed.
It´s good to be back at the office! Here´s stuff we use and like /Jonathan

I have watched countless forehand videos. None of them made sense or helped. I can tell just by watching this now, that I'll be able to translate this to the real thing. Silver is one of hell of a teacher.
Try some Scott Stokley's videos. It could really work together with Silver's tips. :)

Jonathan won at the end, he got way closer to 100m. Silver wasnt even close!
Haha 😂
We need more Silver tutorials. Great explanations and watching Johnathan gradually getting better gives me hope I can improve my game.
I’ve learned more watching this channel than all the other RUclips videos combined. Excellent explanation and fun!
LOL! TheDiscGolfGuy cameo!
I just walked outside and threw my longest forehand ever. Thanks guys! Pew pew 😂
Thats awesome! =)

I remember seeing that one. Wasn’t that a skins match? Either way dude has a great forehand.
This video revived my forehand. The split grip is so much better than the grips I was using before. Thank you guys.
It's nice to see Silver Tattar on the channel 😂. Congrats to you both!!!
I don't know how many forehand throwing guides I've watched. This was BY FAR the best one! Can't wait to get out and try this over the weekend!
It's nice to see Silver teaching forehand, not only is he a great teacher, he probably has one of the best forehands in the game.

Not all hero’s wear capes! Thanks for the constant information!
Love the tips, love Latitude 64- Diamonds are a girl's best friend!
I love this Video series. Thank you for your work.
Thank you both for an incredibly informative and entertaining video. I've been trying to develop a sidearm and I think these tips will help a lot.
2 things. 1, Silver is a hell of a caddy, and 2, Jonathon’s edits are the best in disc golf.

The Adder has been my go-to forehand disc since I got my hand on the first prototype from a mystery box!
As another westside thrower, i'd add gatekeeper/pine, seer and bear to that forehand list. The bear is a literal beast on forehands, it just gooooes.
@@hardbasshammond love gatekeeper on my approach games, bard as well if I have wind. Bear is a fantastic disc 2

I’ve been waiting to learn how silver throws his forehand! I watch him live once and it sounds like a gun shot!
Haha yeah we´ve been talking about making this video for over a year.
We need more Silver. Really great tips! Thank you!
Would love to see more of the Anhyzer max distance line with forehand from Silver!! Please teach us more about anhyzer and getting rid of wobble.
I can't describe the anhyzer well enough, but the wobble is either bad release or, more likely, not enough arm speed. I'm 59 and I throw 12-14 speed discs about 350'-375' without wobble. I use 2 finger stacked, not split, grip.

Great info and fun video...I would have loved to been there live! 2 cool dudes doing what they love.
My disk of choice when it comes to forehand distance is a latitude 64 sapphire and I can get up to 90 meters on a good throw with that one.
Can you make a Silver Lätt - in the bag video?🤠
Another incredible video by lat64❤

Great video and lesson from Silver!

Keep the disc on a straight line. I tried it and it creates way more speed, distance, and control.

Gavin Babcock is a pro who throws with onenfinger grip. Best grip is not objective, it is subjective.
Andrew Marwede has a sneaky bomber forehand with index only.
