      Competition raises everyone's game. I remember when this album debuted. There was a LOT of competition in the music industry, in general. Regarding Megadeth, Dave Mustaine was intent on burying Metallica with this album. This was to be his masterpiece.

      It's the A string ringing out because they must have accidentally been hitting it while trying to chug the D string. It doesn't sound dissonant though, because it's the 5th of the key of the song, so they probably just left it in for a little extra thickness.

    What scales are using Marty in his 4 first solos?

    • @gavindalton2238
      @gavindalton2238 4 года назад +35

      The song is in D minor, but Friedman is a sophisticated player, so what he's doing is notes from D Minor along with a lot of implied harmony within the arpeggios that he uses, meaning he is using arpeggios over the chord progression and the extra notes in the arpeggio imply that the power chord has extra notes. Because of the nature of the rhythm part, it's slightly more complicated because it's more than just a power chord being played, it's an ascending chromatic thing with D as a pedal tone. It's much more simple than it sounds, and as you can clearly see I'm not great at explaining. I'm sure you could google and get a better explanation, but long story short, it's D minor and arpeggios, including a Dmin arpeggio and a D min add 9 arpeggio. That's what I can say from memory lmao
