I race short tracks in real life and this all translates 100%, the only thing I'd add is that if the car is a little tight you can hang on the trail brake a little harder and longer to really get that front end to turn. Don't be tempted to add more steering angle, you're just going to slide the tyres. If the car is a little loose on entry shorten your trail brake and get back to at least 10% gas as early as possible and "steer" the car with the back wheels
Is tire wear more or less dramatic in iracing compared to real life? Like do you have to be just as careful in real racing with your extra steering and what not?
the tires used on short tracks in real life are wildly different compared to those in Iracing. way less fall off in real life, but iracing does this on purpose. @@Whyzee12
I may be over 4K with 9 years on the sim a countless league races. I still watch a lot of these very awesome instruction videos. Sometimes you unlearn things. Sometimes you learn bad habits. Not just for beginners lol
Great lesson for us beginners! Really like how you went through the steps full speed over and over again. We got the verbal and the visual and that helps people learn. Great job
I want to say how well this was timed. Ran one arca race this week and spun like 3 or 4 times in the race. Tried implementing a couple of these steps for a couple of the laps and kept adding on from there. Now running consistently and know why i'm spinning and can figure it out from there. If you are struggling watch this whole vid and try to do them in the sim. It works
man you're killing it. You have the most creative videos I have seen in the sim racing space. You're making money by giving people lessons. Your profile pic is legendary. Amazing all around.
Short track racing is my weakest form of oval racing. I think by far. Even though I picked up one or two of these tips already from just driving or from friends. This video really helped me in understanding the "why" of things. And not just "do this, go faster". Thanks for the video!
My issue with these short af short tracks is everything happens so fast. I’m telling myself to trail brake and instantly transfer but realize I’m already through the corner so now I’m trail braking on exit lol. Obviously over exaggerating but hopefully you get the point
I've always had a problem driving short tracks so I'll have to try your ideas. I have a tendency to brake too soon because I don't want to drive in too hard and hit the wall. I tend to be too careful and it makes me too slow.
bookmarked :) yesterday i ran this Southern (just managed to reach top split with #17 car). qual'd for 10th, finished 14th. but sometimes I felt lost on the track, honestly, this one is too short to me :(
I know this comment is kind of late since you posted this video a couple of weeks ago, but I am curious if you think these tips apply in Late Model Stock or Street Stock? I have ventured into full seasons of trucks and ARCA before but I usually take an irating hit and convince myself that I need more practice in the lower ranks. I took everything you said on board and tried to apply it to LMS this season, but it seems like if try to brake more going into a corner, I get nailed from behind, and if I only go part throttle on exit until I straighten the wheel, I am getting run over on exit of the corner. Your suggestions make a lot of sense, but I am wondering if saving tire isn't as relevant in these cars. I usually start out with max steering ratio and about 51% brake bias, and that doesn't seem to help me save tire either, as I usually end up around 50% on the RF by the end of the race. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
why wouldn't you want to coast in corner center? does it have to do with tire conservation and/or car balance? or does it have to do with another variable that makes you a better driver?
Coasting keeps the car unloaded, which makes it hard to control. For example, I drive Legends cars, and you dont want to coast because: on throttle = weight to RR = grip on brake = weight to LF =grip At least thats what I feel
Trail braking is productive because it rotates the car efficiently Throttle is productive because you maintain momentum Missing out on one of these 2 is like giving up free rotation or speed.
I struggle at this track no matter the car. I got one tour modified win here but only cause 1st and 2nd wrecked 😂 other short tracks I run pretty good, but this track can suck it
Nice vid arca drives alot different then the real short track cars so alot of brake needed for arca but per say mods you try to use as little brake as you can the new lmsc is broken for fixed you just slam gas down fight looseness
@DJ Yee-J live you videos, super help full. I live to run the 8 to 1 ratio that helps me feel the car. The steering ratio is just for driver feel right? I am not burning my tires as long as I am not sliding them right?
Well, update as I am coming up to the first year mark and I am using 10/12 to 1 on road course stuff and some short tracks and I use 14/16 to 1 on the other tracks. Nascar series. I use 2.87/3.15 Next Gen most of the time and rarely use 2.64. What I learned is log laps in test sessions. Crash trying different ratios and BB, try braking later or not slowing down so much but just push yourself. Race others with respect and report the bad seeds. Especially the ones who wreck you after the flag. But have fun and the rest will come.
You're killing me man, every video I watch brings me one step closer to resubbing and getting back on the short tracks.

Thanks for this ,just got into Iracing and the learning curve is a little easier to manage thanks to uploads like these.

This video actually made sense. I am gonna to run laps and implement what i just learned. Ill keep you posted

Timing is crazy, Im currently battling ARCA cars at Southern, Hated it so far.
Hopefully this helps!

Bro 25 k subs now nice job
Thanks man!
Step 2 got me. I am notorious for coasting then mashing the throttle when I get the right angle. Then I'm wondering why I'm making no ground
why wouldn't you want to coast in corner center? does it have to do with tire conservation and/or car balance? or does it have to do with another variable that makes you a better driver?

I personally don't like the short tracks.
does braking apply to streetstocks as well? I feel like it would be slower
It most definitely applies try it out! The goal is to get back to throttle either partial or full asap
What step is it to know that the rear end of the car in front works great as a brake assist?
Step 0
Or if its the last lap this Ross Chastain it around the outside wall this could result in a win but possibly also a ban

Ya the late model feels like a training wheels car tbh hahaha
Are these steps still useful, for example the street stock?
Can I email you for info on a lesson? This would be different than what anyone else has asked of you with regard to a lesson.
Yes feel free!
Only thing I can think to add would be diamonding the corners

Noob question: what's a short track?
@@GeneAuyeung there’s no exact cutoff but it’s like any track 3/4 of a mile or shorter
Stopped watching as soon as you said you don't coast on short tracks. There are several short tracks where it is beneficial to roll center.
beneficial to your opponents
