Me and a friend are planning a charity race for them. It was gonna be this week 13 but I had to put it off because I fell behind on planning. Sometime soon though!
Your tip about driving off the right rear from videos earlier this season are probably the single biggest reason for my improvements the last few months.
When I have figured out how to drive off the right rear it seems to just wear the right rear out pretty fast and then I have trouble keeping it from spinning out 5-10 laps later. Any advice on that!
It's honestly super hard to explain because for pretty much everyone it's just a "feel." I didnt feel comfortable making this video for a long time because I just didnt know how to explain it. I finally landed on the angle of starting with my college physics classes and working backwards until it was something presentable.
Thank you for continuing to post videos with these types of tutorials. I have watched this multiple times and I didn't know how to apply it. But last week I was in a late model stock race with a SOF of 3700 and got absolutely murdered because I cooked my tires off. I noticed mid way through the race that the other drivers were driving off the right rear and I went back and watched this video right after and it made a lot more sense after seeing it when I was looking for it. Today I was able to run a SK modified race at Lanier and finally felt myself actually getting the car to rotate with a combination of the brake and light gas to set the car. Thank you so much!!!
I recently tried Rookie Ovals in iRacing and when its not a complete crash fest in the street stocks i really like it, it's alot of fun. Been using this channel to learn more about it like the unwritten oval rules so i could understand what was acceptable and not etc. Now i have my D license and looking forward to learning more! Thanks for the guides and videos! They are a big help for somebody who is only really familiar with road
This is pretty much 100% in agreement with what I’ve figured out over the years. You really don’t have to compromise much at all. In fact, once you’re around halfway through a run and you’ve been turning as little as possible while still maintaining pace, I find I can turn even a little harder in the center briefly and make even more speed at the end of a run than I would normally. That works really well at mile and a half tracks in my experience.
I oval race in an rFactor 2 league. But this is probably the best help as regards tyre wear I have seen. I particularly like using as little throttle on middle/exit as possible. Getting the car to turn the middle, and therefore using less throttle means there is more right tyre left for sideways grip. And a loose car wears/heats RR more, so protecting it is important.
I love this and it explains a whole lot! It’s improving my lines and I love the way you put the physics into it. On the late models that I run it’s kind of hard to execute but it’s improved alot
Ahhhhhh now I understand. It’s hard to come from playing heat to racing iracing. I’ve spent 3 years trying to understand without finally looking it up. I’m glad I did. I’m driving to hard and not using my brakes enough. Got it. Less lateral force on my right front the longer it lasts thus faster I will be over time. I will use this. Thank you
I watched this video 3 times so far just to refresh myself. I still suck at right front tire savings, and I know it’s because I’m using too much wheel input on corner entry. Running fixed setup races, I assume the best approach is to be patient and optimize your line. Practice makes perfect! Love this video!!!
Thanks this helped alot applied to the lmsc race first time i burnt off the rf with 20 laps to go and had to pit for black flag because of tire wear.. applied your advice changed a little in the driving line and went from 15th to 4 and still had 53% left on the rf and did not have to pit.. so thanks again!!
my brain hurts, but i importantly i know what was said~ but one part about it you forgot to mention, is that no matter what you watch to learn. Experience and practice is the only way to improve
Great explanation. I feel Next Gen cars have a more specific driving style than others oval cars, like XFINIT and ARCA. Does the video tips also helps to minimize tire wear on NG Cup cars?
I have a RS6 mach 3 from TR. I recommended them two of my buddies and it took literal months for them to get all of their parts. Granted the bought aluminum extrusion rigs. My rig i got right before the pandemic boom with my fanatec kit. My RS6 has held up well but the tub frame could have had higher tolerances when looking at the connecting diameters of the frame ends. After a few years with my rig there is a noticeable amount of flex at the middle of the rig where the two pieces slot into eachother. It doesnt seem as though its going to break but it is kind of annoying.
Is there any line that uses the tire more like someone staying on the high line vs staying on the low line vs going on the wall on the straights to down in the corner or does the choice of line shouldn't matter if the corners are entered the right way
The top in most cases the top will wear more because you cover more distance and you don’t get to use gravity to your advantage at all. Sometimes though the top ends up handling better than the bottom to the point where the top uses less steering wheel overall. This usually would happen on late run
@@DJYeeJay A great example of the "sometimes" is at Iowa in 3 and 4. The bottom-mid is fast and can wear tires evenly, but towards the middle to end of a long run it is waaaaaaaay easier to be consistent and fast through 3 and 4 on the top when you're in "cruise mode". Whatever you lose on entry and middle there, you easily make up on exit down the front straight. Now, if I'm battling for position, I might still use that bottom in 3/4, it just isn't as easy (for me anyway) to drive it efficiently/consistently down there.
Thisis a bugbear of mine somewhat on iracing; the lack of live tire information, what real life race doesnt have that info, just by sight alone.? Its a big ommssion right? It end to look after tyres and do finish relatively fast, but half the time feel I should have pushed a bit harder after all.
Live tire data has never been displayed for NASCAR because there’s no capabilities in real life to do that. Up until a few years ago 3rd party apps could still access live tire data and display it to you, but iracing stopped making that information available I believe
@@DJYeeJay its a shame.. In real life we have actual visuals,so there is a way to see physically the wear so in that sense its missing from the game still: unless they perhaps upgrade the visuals..but then many folk turn offd ynamic stuff. ) Thanks for the response ;)
if doinhg ovals one can lift through a bend and still be quicker than a pack in front of you so there are nuances to somw of your conclusions such as saving tyres is slow :)
I'm assuming your car settings are for the ARCA cars/series. I can't seem to set brake bias lower than 60%. How are you getting it down to 57%? What am I missing?
it gets on my nerves to no end that the GT3 cars are getting a full tyre and track overhaul while oval is ignored. the oval V7 is too susceptible to overall speed instead of load and the racing in every car suffers to no end from it
See, in the ARCA car, I can always load the car up to get the right rear to just kinda drive me around the corners. I'm always most competitive in ARCA. I can't seem to find the same speed and consistency in trucks, Xfinity, or cup. Theyre always really tight for me on fixed setup whereas on ARCA, I can just tap the brake to turn the car in then roll into the throttle and get it leaned on over on that right rear and almost have the wheel straight, like I'm driving dirt or something. It feels good and the fall off seems better than most of my competition. Any tips? For reference, I tend to drop brake bias down as much as I can. I'll be dragging brake until the car gets kinda set, then roll the throttle on up then end up full throttle a bit before exit to get the car to drive up off the corner.
If a setup is too tight for me, if it's tight in the mid/exit, I would be raising my entry by half a lane, and/or backing up the corner a few feet on entry. Brake bias moved back of course. Let's see what DJ would do!
Nooner is correct! When you can’t put the car on the rear, it’s all about minimizing the forces as a whole without giving up too much time. Usually the best first step is an earlier and smoother off throttle and corner entry and a super smooth throttle up. Early off early on is what I like to say. You give up time on entry, but if done correctly you gain most if not all of it back on exit
@@DJYeeJay okay cool! Thank y'all. I've thought I was backing the corner up enough but it just feels really early. Excellent modernization of the thumbnail but importantly, the message of my video on this topic!

Great stuff as always Justin, thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for making this! I've been amazed at the lack of videos on iRacing tire wear. It's so sorely needed.

Awesome video. Keep up the great work! I'm new to iracing and your posts have been unbelievably helpful learning tools.
Man, I just learn a lot, but I’m not going to lie my head hurts. 🤯Good video bro.💯

I'm not very good at Nextgen honestly, don't have any feel with it yet, haven't raced it much. But the fundamental concepts are the same

Active Reset is the perfect tool to test the small differences 🙂
I am new to iracing from ACC, what is the normal tire temps window for Iracing in F°?
"You gotta slow down to go fast"
Darrell Waltrip
Question, so is the low line best for tire saving? I've heard different things from different people personally.
Track dependent, but more often yes. Just try different long run lines at a track until you have one that uses less steering wheel than the others
@@DJYeeJay makes sense, thank you!
My brain can’t comprehend this
Sorry I tried to simplify the college level physics but it still probably ended up around high school level physics

You can go -3% more on the in car settings!
I managed to run the NexGen at Dover with lowest brake bias and it is better.

Look easy in the corner, let it rotate, then medium off the corner. Then stomp it on the straight. Repeat.
