    Thank you so much for making this video! I'm shopping for a tent right now and this was really helpful for me to see. They have a pretty light blue version of the tent now... but it does look quite a bit more challenging to set up than my REI 2 person tent.

    I looked up this tent out of curiosity. I work at an outdoor store and just had one of these tents returned mid camping trip. The couple who purchased it had a terrible night in the rain with dripping water and puddles in the tent. It was soaking wet upon return.
    I would say the reviewers written description of the tent is accurate. This tent would be ideal for the perfect sunny summer glamping trip to the local spot or for the kids in the backyard.
    The skylight is cool, lots of space and the gear hang that you can put your iPad in to watch some Netflix with the stars as your background is sweet but if you are looking for a waterproof backpacking tent. This is not it. Cheers

      Thanks for the message! I think the one thing I needed, was some in the field testing like you did. At least you looked really cool in this tent as you were getting wet asf right????

    Yes the poles are BRUTAL to get into the grommet. I installed the two brown poles first followed by the blue pole. The blue pole was very difficult to bend.Does the order the poles are installed make it easier? ie. Brown pole, Blue pole, Brown pole

    Great and Entertaining Review!
    This tent VERY MUCH reminds me of my Walrus brand Mountain 360 (Walrus was purchased by another manufacturer long ago). The more tents I've come to know, the more I miss my Walrus tent. So I am very interested in this tent (and another homestead model). What follows is a comparison of my Walrus tent vs what I see with respect to the Domey 3:
    1. This now older man can't stand up to put on his pants in the privacy of either of these tents. 2. Yeah, the door (or in the case of the Domey3, doors) would be much better if they were some sort of D design that did not fall to the ground (especially in wet or muddy conditions). 3. I used the Walrus tent ONCE in warm weather... the hex dome design definitely built for the cooler weather (and despite another ancient online review of the Walrus where I was critical of the sub-freezing performance of the tent, I have come to find that I can be very comfortable in the tent down to about 20 degrees F). 4. Like the Domey 3, the Walrus also had a mesh top in the center of the dome. In cool/cold weather, I normally covered that with a small tarp before installing the rainfly. I suspect that the Domey will have a similar issue, too warm for summer camping, perhaps too cool for fall and spring. But probably more easily modified to those situations than my Walrus was. 5. The Walrus really excelled in extremely heavy rain with hurricane force winds. NO water got inside, and the dome design did not deform in the wind. While the Walrus rainfly was often a second skin over the main tent enclosure, it appears that the Domey 3 only uses a rainfly to cover that large vented peak. I would expect the Domey 3 to not deform in heavy and violent winds, BUT I'm not sure that the single skin could withstand wind driven rain as well as my old tent did. 6. Rarely did I find condensation on the inside of the Walrus, I would expect the Domey 3 to be similar. 7. Some setup difficulty. In this age of so many pop-up tents that set up in seconds and are secure within the following minutes, the fact that TNF has not simplified the poles here is disappointing. I remember spending 30 to 45 minutes setting up the Walrus tent and getting my mattress and sleeping bags set inside. Yes, there is a certain order to which poles you try to raise into an arc first. If you do the poles in the wrong order, it will be terribly difficult to set the poles in the holes. The Domey 3 must be exactly the same in this respect.
    Moving on to a comment simply about the Domey 3 and the rest of the homestead collection. I see that this review is dated June 2017. Odd that despite visiting many of these tent websites for many years, I did not see this tent or its Homestead siblings until 2020! MOST of the interesting prints have been reduced to a choice between the extremely flowery prints, or a solid color model. Thankfully, I am not attracted to the prints which may be better to have at festivals than at real camping venues.
    Once again, a very entertaining review that represented the product well while still calling out its shortcomings.

      This comment is 10x better than the review! I'll have to now track The Walrus tent. Thanks for giving me so much awesome input.

    Hi! is the poles made of aluminum?

  • @MWBFurlong

    Hi, I'm looking at this tent with a mind to buy.
    Particularly, I want a tent with mesh windows/doors which I can zip up from the inside. I like the idea of laying in the tent and looking out at nature and if it starts to rain I can just zip up the mesh screen from inside without needing to worry about getting out to fiddle with the fly.
    So, to confirm, those door openings have both a mesh screen and a waterproof door flap? Do you know of any other tents with Mesh windows/doors which can be zipped up from the inside so I don't need to go out in the rain and fiddle with the fly?

    • @TheGlampGuru
      @TheGlampGuru  7 лет назад

      Michael Furlong realize that you would have to get out and secure the fly for the roof. That you can not zip up from the inside.

    • @MWBFurlong
      @MWBFurlong 7 лет назад

      Sorry for my lack of clear language, I'm aware about the fly for the roof. I mean the mesh screen behind the doors. I can leave the doors open with just the mesh, and if it starts to rain I can just zip up the doors from inside, correct?
      On that note, are the doors double zipped (so that I can leave a small gap at the top of the door, rather than opening and closing from only one corner)?
      I was reading that other people found the poles quite tight in the holes, and they worried it would reduce the life of the tent because the pressure would cause rips. Do you have an opinion about that?
      I'm thinking of getting this as a back backing tent (hiking up some mountains in Korea). I know it's a bit on the heavy side but most other tents I've seen have opaque flies which make it difficult to enjoy the view (unless I'm 100% sure it won't rain). This tent, because of the doors, means I can leave them open and quickly zip them up if it starts to rain.

      Michael Furlong :: You still have to open the screen to drop the door then zip the screen up. Guess what happens when you have a hungry crowd of Mosquito's waiting to jump your ass to get to that door panel? My friend's sister bought one of these and to be honest it's not worth the coin, it's also small for a 3 person hut. I would rather buy a used NF with a full fly and some vestibule space. The roomy 2 has a better fly.

      @@MWBFurlong Did you hike Korean mountain with this tent?

    • @MWBFurlong
      @MWBFurlong Год назад

      @@doublearms I did. It's bulky and a bit inconvenient at times but its roomy enough for me, my wife, and our back packs. It also needs two people to set it up reliably. The previous comments by glamp guru and big stick are pretty accurate. However, despite its issues its still our favourite tent for two people + back packs,

    I have to say the colour coding is a universal thing on all tents you have to be a complete and utter muppet not to understand this ! Black and white instructions are a par but it should be fairly obvious? 🤷🏻‍♂️
