Thanks for watching JeepSolid. I am not a certified mechanic, just a hobbyist who enjoys working on Jeeps. Авто/Мото
I've watched several videos of people installing shocks on their YJs. You sir, are the first to use a torque wrench. Bravo!!!
This is the most detailed one I've seen. Now I can do by myself. Thanks
Cool. Thanks!
I can just see myself using a ton of PB Blaster to get off the old shocks.
I love my Bilstein shocks! Another great video. Very clear and easy to follow.
I completely agree, awesome how to video!
+JeepVideoGuy Thanks. I really like them!
0:29 BE56458 is the old rear shock number. Its 24-185660 now. Great videos btw, thanks !
Awesome video in thank you for showing it so quickly and simple it is very accurate and helpful thank you so much. Have a beautiful day everyday.
Thank you. Glad you found it helpful.
Great video. One question..do you need to put a jack stand on rear while doing the rear shocks?
Ok. Thx
Very well done! Would like to see you install Rocker-Guards on that great looking Jeep :)
+JK UNLIMITED RULES!! Oh man, yeah! I'd really like to.
I was hoping to see how you torqued the front shock top to 19 ft lbs. while holding the hex key in place. Can I assume you just "ballpark" that one?
I’ve heard that the bolts holding the upper bar pin in place in the rear are prone to breaking. Any tips? Are bar pin eliminators helpful? I’m looking at replacing the shocks on my 2001 wrangler tj. Thanks!
Hi.
Can you perhaps tell me if the front and rear shocks of a Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon (2017),
fit and work on my Jeep Wrangler YJ (1991) ??
Hope someone can tell me!
Thanks @ all ;)
Tip:
When I did this on mine, the bottom bolt was seized but the top bolt slid right out... On one side, I cut the bolt, but on the other, I found it easy to take the top off, put a wrench on the bolt, and turn the shock back and forth to free up the bolt. Once it was free enough for my impact to spin it, I spun it until it was free, then hammered it out.
Rear, that is... On the front I just took a Sawzall to the top bolt.
That's great Michael! Thanks for the tip.
I have 5100's on my YJ. A million times better ride. One of the best upgrades I have done for it. Just ordered a set for my wife's LJ.
+Chris C. It’s a nice upgrade on these older wranglers 👍🏼
Nice install video! How do you like the ride with those new Bilsteins?
+TrailRecon They make for a nice ride. I can definitely tell a difference. Really smoothed out the hard bumps!
+JeepSolid I really noticed a difference with the bilsteins when I installed them on my last rig! Nice choice!
..thx man..getting 4 of em' installed on my 2012 JK two door tomorrow..looking forward to an awesome difference!
Found your channel through Trailrecon's channel. Great channel guys, Sub'd!
+JEEPARMY USA Cool! Thx.
+JeepSolid same here brother, great channel!
+JeepVideoGuy Thanks!
That boot at the rear 😆
Every tool has a hammer side.
how are these shocks vs old man emu? do you recommend these bilsteins?
thanks a lot . helped me a lot
+Chad Reimer Great! Thx for watching.
Thanks for another great video.
+3hdninja Thanks!
seized bolts and a tbar on the back of my jeep thanks jeep enginer's
Why are you mounting them with the boot up? Isn't that upside down? I know they are mono tube so it probably doesn't hurt, but just curious if there was a specific reason why.
The design on the front shocks, with the stud, dictated how they had to be mounted.
how are the bilsteins holding? is the ride smoother vs the older shocks? thx
I like them. I noticed an improvement in sharp bumps, but still drives like a Jeep. LOL😂
What are your thoughts regarding the removal of track bars?
Jury is still out on that one for me... I see the value and purpose of preventing lateral movement of the axle, but on the other hand, I hear of people getting better articulation with it removed. So, I'm not sure. Have to do some more research on that one...
Thank you for the quick response. I’ve been reading and watching everything I can find on the subject to only conclude that there are good debates on the subject.
I’m not a hardcore 4 wheeler so I think I may try it. I’ll let you know what I experience.
I'm new to all this. Why the Bilstein shocks compared to other brands?
They are a well know, proven, tough shock that comes with a lifetime warranty. They can be a little more expensive than some others, but you get what you pay for.
+JeepSolid oh ok. How do they compare to the stock shocks? Softer ride?
Yep, they really smoothed out the ride. I noticed most improvement on sharp, hard bumps, like hitting a speed bumps.
+JeepSolid if I get the Jk sport, would you recommend getting the original changed out or wait until they wear out?
I'd wait until they're needing replacment
You’ve had the Bilstein’s for a couple of years now. How are they performing and how do you like them at this point?
I put a 3” lift on my ‘90 YJ and used the shocks that came with the lift kit.
The bumps make your spine almost explode out your body it’s so harsh.
I’m going to remove the track bars and want a good shock to install to smooth it out and make it more enjoyable to drive.
Your feedback would be helpful.
I am happy with them and would buy them again. They've held up well and smoothed out harsh bumps. But, still drives like a Jeep. Haha.. I have 3.5" lift. Linked the exact shocks I purchased in my video description on my shock install. Thanks for watching!
JeepSolid thanks for the reply. I removed both track bars last night and took it out for a 20 mile on/off road spin. What a difference. Holy crap. I even brought my wife along for an unbiased opinion. Way smoother.
I just added the Bilstein’s to my Amazon shopping cart. Can’t wait to install them. I bought Corbeau Baja XRS suspension seats to help also and they are really comfortable and bump absorbing as well.
