    Love this! Fontanillis and Dicks are just great. If you follow that creek the opposite way all the way to Fontanillis you'll come to where it enters the lake (duh), BUT this area is beautiful with great brookies by the falls. Plus a great place to swim after you spook everything :). Thanks as always!

      The underwater footage I got of the brookies spawning a couple years back was shot at the inlet of this creek into Fontanillis. That is on my wildlife encounter playlist if you haven't seen it and are interested. I saw and caught brookies up to 16" on that day. I fished the whole creek from Lake to Lake in this clip. I also got a nice rainbow at the inlet fishing for my Patreon just before I shot this. I love that area. Great scenery and solid fishing. What more could we ask for! I have fishing clips for Dick's and Fontanillis on my backcountry fishing playlist.

    hey Amani...hello from Mexico! This is how I grew up fishing small creeks with my dad. He worked with a company building logging roads in the Sierras and they would cross small streams 20 or 30 miles in from the nearest highway so for the most part these were streams that were practically untouched. Mostly out of Long Barn in toward the Clavey. It was a great way to grow up! We used bargain basement fishing gear but we made it work!

      I love fishing the small creeks. It's a little tough when the heat is there but later in the Fall when it cools down it can be hard to stop pushing upstream. I always have to see the next pool!

    I used to fish Gilmore Lake about 15 yrs ago. Had decent sized Macks. They would hit night crawlers down deep. Good start to hike up Tallac too.

      I actually have a clip for Gilmore Lake on my backcountry fishing playlist. That is one of the few lakes in California I have fish that has Mackinaw. I need to get back there.

    That was some good action in that small creek - I am wondering if you stopped at the inlet on your way out👊🎣👍

      I fished the inlet to Fontanillis for my Patreon just before this and was going to fish Dick's for RUclips afterward but I was too tired. Heat wore me down. I always have to remember that I need to safely hike myself out of there at the end of the day! I got a nice rainbow when I was fishing the inlet before this clip.

    The story about busting the net and then losing it 😂
    It's almost like the universe wants you to bring the old Frankenstein net ONLY

      Oh, the Frankenstein net will live and be put into full action! Don't you worry, it's in the on deck circle swinging a bat to get ready!

      Right on. Yeah, really beautiful creek and amazing surroundings. Awesome just being out there. I hope to return in the Fall. My focus soon will be on the high country above 10K.

    Bummer on that new fishing net, I’ve got an idea for You could easily fix that net with a harbor freight rivet gun and a couple of pieces of plastic. I
    Enjoy watching your videos inspiring me to get back there someday soon!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад

      It will all work out. The frame was completely snapped on both sides above the handle on the old one so reinforcing it with popsicle sticks before I tied it up gave it the secure rigidity I was looking for. You'll see that net in action because this new one fell off my pack while I was hiking cross country before I could get it home and fix it. I know the route I took so I am going to try to find that when I go back in October.

      @@wildernesswithamani1027 I'm hiking from Bayview to Fontanillis this week, camping a couple of nights. If I see your net, I'll grab and mail it over to you. If you know roughly where you dropped it I can probably take a look if it's within my path as well.

    How were the bugs? Heading up there in two weeks. Nice net btw! 👍

      The bugs sucked in the shade and morning/evening. I kept covered in 100% deet and didn't get a bite but if you don't have something effective you will get eaten alive!

    Great lesson on using a shorter leader for creeks!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I figured out a long time ago that precision is key for me and the shorter leader gives me the control I need. If I think a fish is right at the head of the pool or hugging the side under a bush, nothing short of a direct strike will do. I go as short as I can get away with in every video I'm fly fishing in on my backcountry fishing playlist. Sometimes that's 8 feet in alpine lakes but others it's only 3 feet in creeks. All depends on the situation in front of me. There's about to be quite a bit of backcountry fishing coming.

    This looks awesome! Where is this trail head?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад

      That is the Eagle Falls Trailhead above Emerald Bay in Tahoe. The hike up to Dick's/Fontanillis is on my hiking playlist. A couple of those clips I get stopped cold by snow so make sure you find the one where I actually make it!

    Dude!! ZIP TIES!!
    also curious if you have paid off that SUV you had to buy a few years ago..??

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад

      My repaired net should do just fine. My car wasn't and still isn't close to being paid off. Had to get it when the price of used cars was at a peak. The generous donations by my viewers helped with a down payment and several months of payments. I'm grateful for that. Without it I wouldn't be driving a car this dependable and I've already put over 60K miles on it making content. I'm hoping my channel and Patreon growth will get to a level where the remaining costs are neutralized. I'm still digging out from receiving next to no income at all for the first 3 and a half years of my channel so I have a long way to go. As long as I have food and a roof over my head I'm down for the struggle.

    You should try a hopper dropper fly rig ....super exciting and effective

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад

      Right on. I was getting everything I was hoping for. Unfortunately, the brookies in the middle section of the creek were all small. The outlet to Eagle Lake in Desolation looks great right now. I plan to fish it sooner than later for my Patreon. I have a clip for it on my backcountry fishing playlist. There are some nice brookies and browns in there at and below the footbridge at the beginning of the trail. There are some good looking pools upstream from there but that area is even harder to fish than the stuff around the bridge. It's worth a look though.

    Amani I feel for you. Amani, zip ties dude, zip ties are amazing. Amani, 10 miles in a day? Plus getting in some fishin? That’s crazy. See ya

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад

      When the frame is completely snapped you need to have something like the popsicle sticks I used or long, flat pieces of wood to secure to the frame before trying to secure it. Kind of like a splint that provides support on either side of a broken bone. Otherwise, the frame will fall apart in seconds so matter what you use. Once you got that in place zip ties would likely work great. Yeah, that 10 mile day hike in and out and all the hiking between lakes with the heat was brutal. Gnarly day hikes like this are how I have so much content on my backcountry fishing playlist though. Sometimes I wish I had a helicopter!

    Catching those brookies up in the alpine lakes is always fun. As for nets your having bad luck and even your larger net has developed a hole i believe.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah, my net situation isn't great but it'll do for a while. My bigger net get's holes and has to be held together to the frame by boot laces because when I'm breaking through brush It get's caught on branches and sometimes I yank a little too hard on it!

    dont know if you got my comment about doug berry and his youtube channel. he hiked to gardisky and had some great views of the area that showed how much snow is still there. oh by the way he commented to me that he does check out your channel

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад +1

      Right on. Yeah, I've been waiting out the snow in the high country but in a couple of weeks I plan to start hammering the trails above 10K. It's hard to imagine there's snow still on the trails above 10K with the heat we've had lately but it's there. It's probably just fishing clearing up about now. Probably completely gone in a lot of areas. Won't know for sure until I go!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  6 месяцев назад +1

      I think you're right! They will be pleased I am going to use the old repaired one for a bit because After breaking the new one before using it and then having it fall off my pack when traveling cross country it's all I got! I hope I can find this new broken net when I go back in the Fall. It should be an easier fix than full reconstruction I had to do on the one I got on deck.
