    Amani,
I always enjoy it when you fish the Truckee River. That section you're in is beautiful and the willows so green in the background. In the late 70's I tried fly fishing somewhere up in that area but didn't know what I was doing and don't remember even getting a rise. Just the same it is such a pretty area, it's was nice just to be there. That is a great river fishery to sustain so many nice fish.

I love to be out there. Once I hike away from the easy access at the exits off 80, I rarely run into anyone early in the morning as I'm hiking and fishing up and down the river. I'm glad you like Truckee River content because It's close to where I live so it is a go to when I have limited time or feeling lazy.

You might get a better deal on the fishusa site. I got a load of those 1/8 OZ road runner jigs for cheap. They come two to a pack and are less than $3 a pack I think. I ordered them a while ago so I can't remember exactly. I think if you order $50 worth of stuff the shipping is free. That's where I got those VMC jigs I got that big brown on in the Nevada Truckee. I think the clip is "Big Brown and Site Clean Up". It's on my rivers playlist if you haven't seen it. I'm close to trying some bucktail jigs intended for walleye I saw on Amazon. I'll try anything that looks good to me! Good luck on the river when you hit it.

Your fishing adventures are so authentic! Reminds me of the old tv show American Sportsman.
Maybe sometime we meet at my favorite Sierra spot?
I will video, while you wet your line, and catch on the first attempt, no editing necessary. Where hundreds of cars go by oblivious. No strenuous climbing. No wading. Plenty of access points, different runs.
Been a long time since I was there, where dad and I always enjoyed the first cast catch, hiking, and delightful camping. Of course we only keep what we eat, within the hour.

I have had luck all along the 80 in CA all the way out past Sparks in Nevada so just get out there. It's all good! Make sure to check regulations. Personally, I use single hook/barbless/artificial lures because I no longer keep fish in rivers for the most part. Just my personal preference. I think there is a 2 fish limit and only artificial lures in a lot of the river off the 80 now.

I first tried them the first time I ever fished the Truckee River about a year ago. That's the clip that started my Truckee River "never been skunked streak" that I dedicated a playlist to. I have over a dozen retrievals I use now depending on the situation. You just have to get out there and work it out. I don't lose a lot of jigs but for people who don't have a lot of experience with this sort of thing, snags will be a struggle! If you have never fished heavy jigs in a river like this, I recommend reeling them in fast and then slow it down from there! When the jig hits the water, you need to have the bail closed and be reeling! I highly recommend trying them if you never have. I don't get tons of fish on them but I get a lot of nice ones and fighting them on the light tackle I use is a real treat.

The non-resident license fee is a killer. With the second rod designation I think it cost around $160. If you get on, you'll have to use it a lot to make it worth it. I have a lot of possible targets across the state line on my channel playlists that could help you decide a plan of attack! I also have a lot of content for the river in Nevada that won't cost so much in terms of a license.

Right now it is artificial/barbless/catch and release only in California and one stretch is barbless flies only. I would take a look at the chart in the California regulation guide for "trout waters with special regulations" for the Truckee River before heading out there. It spells everything out in fairly plain order. All trout waters with special regulations (without salmon or steelhead runs) are listed alphabetically on that chart. There should be a new regulation book coming out in march. Typically, there is a bag limit after trout season starts the last weekend in April. I believe the stretch off the 89 is general regulations during trout season but I would recommend confirming that for yourself. I have a lot of Truckee River content on my two channel playlists that deal with river fishing if you haven't seen them and are interested.

Yeah, they can be found all throught the Sierra Nevada Range and in the foothills. Much more so in the foothills than the higher elevations but they are there. A rattle snakes range is listed at 11K' elevation but I don't look much after 9K' myself. Personally, I've had several rattle snake encounters between 6K-7K' of elevation and had one as high as 7.5K ' elevation at Kings Canyon National Park. I have a clip with one hanging out under my tent up at lake Vernon in Yosemite. That's around 6.5K feet elevation and I've seen more than that one up there over the years.

Sometimes fishing jigs in a river you might get one shot. On this day, I was lucky to get several. If you are in socal, look to the ankle deep water in the surf zone for corbina. I used to catch them on the beach in San Diego where I lived for many years. I think their range is point conception. but I don't know how good it is fishing for them anywhere north of Carlsbad. Treat it like you are fishing for trout with light tackle. They come in with the waves in the Summer and cruise over the patches of sand crabs. I drift a sand crab through ankle to knee deep water and have nailed some nice ones. Some people like to use bloodworms but I find the perch eat those too fast. If you are not in SoCal, this information is useless to you!
