  • This is a video demo of the Mustang III with an actual overdrive pedal versus the onboard overdrive pedal. The preset on the amp I am using is the Tubescreamer preset. Please let me know what you think.

    Damn, these are the best amps on earth for the money. If they prove to be durable in the long run they'll no doubt be counted amongst the greatest guitar amps of all time.

    Each time you changed between them I had to laugh, they sound so similar.
    Fender should endorse you, you've probably turned a lot of people onto these Mustang amps.

      haha :) Thanks Daniel. Yeah there's no benefit to the external pedals in this case if you're a Tubescreamer sort of guy. Endorsed by Fender would be fun! :) hehe.

    It's flat out *amazing* how good the amp-sim version of the Tube Screamer is! Personally, I don't think there's enough difference to even worry about it. The truth is, we can barely here a difference when the amp is isolated -- the difference will be inconsequential in the context of a full band. Digital simulation is here to stay and people might as well get real about it -- we've gotten to the point where the benefits of going digital outweigh any miniscule tonal differences one might detect.

    I have just bought a Mustang V head for gigging. I run mine through a 1x 12 cab with a Peavey sidewinder speaker made in the 70's. Tight and not too harsh on the mids makes it a great combination. The amp is extremely loud and sounds great when you spend a bit of time tweaking it. I have made a few patches matching the vintage amps I have and I could say no one at a gig would know the difference. Best £249 I have ever spent on music. With the software added, this amp is almost too good to be true!

    I do like how the Mustang responds to distortion pedals, I have a Boss ds-1 and if you put it though a Tube amp is sounded beautiful and amazing , but if you put it through a solid state amp it would sound trashy and crappy, but it sounds amazing though my Mustang V, I love it.

    I love my Mustang III and altho I have a few very nice pedals I don't need them with the Mustang. I don't use my vintage amps either. You have to learn to create your own presets tho. Guys who say they don't like the amp are going by the dripping wet, effects laden factory presets which only serve to show you the potential of the amp. The "Green Box" and "Overdrive" and the Tape Delay and Spring Reverb are the only built in "pedals" I regularly use on the Mustang.

  • @calokid

    I just got the amp. I am impressed, but I am surprised that I liked the amp better than this pedal. (I don't know the pedal and it could be the pedal lacking that certain something). Anyway, I put the video on and went back to work and had to come back because I liked what I heard and it was the amp!

    I use the tube screamer TS eight with turbo etc. settings on it and it is a noticeable difference it sounds more tubier because this is not a tube amp it is simulated tube amp, the pedal definitely helps me out.

  • @lijothomas8398

    I think the amp sim actually sounds better than the pedal. I have the mustang and while its a great amp, I do feel that it can't take pedals very well. The inbuilt tones are way better than what you can get with any pedal, I think

    Have you jused the advanced mode when you tweaked the sound on the different amp settings?
    Cheers

    • @intheblues

      When I set an amp up I use the original amp as a reference and I use the advanced settings via the computer yep. I found the cabinet settings and bias settings under advance make a huge difference to the tonality of the presets. :) Thanks for the question. :)

    Thanks for the great demos! I have a mustang III and after watching your videos I downloaded your presets and will give them a try. Any chance you could do a post on how you tweak your amp settings? I tried hooking up my 80's Ibanez tube screamer and really didn't like the result. I'm wondering if I missed something in terms of the advanced settings?

    Would the smaller mustangs (I or II) be better for at home practice amps? Or would you say the mustang III is great from home low volume practice too?

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  10 лет назад

      The Mustang III has more options on board than the smaller amps and can also be used with headphones. The smaller amps do sound good though, but these are loud enough to gig with within reason. If you're restricted on volume the smaller ones would do the job no worries. :) You can get a good sound at low volume with the III but it will be louder due to the size of the speaker.

    I own this amp and a Maxon OD 808, it takes the pedal very well but it won't take well other pedals like distortion pedals, plexi pedals for instance.

    Just got rid of a vox ac30 and got one of these... That's how much you videos sold it for me! Haha question though, do you think as soon as you add external overdrive pedals it interferes with the signal and adds all sorts of buzz? I plugged in my boss me-50 to play with it and it was almost too buzzy to even play.

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  9 лет назад +1

      I don't use any external overdrive effects with these amps mate. I just use the models built into the amp as they sound great. If you can, check it's not the pedal that's the problem. Try a pedal that's one effect only and see if the amp responds the same way. I reckon it's some sort of weird digital noise going on. I hope you like the amp otherwise :-) Try it with some different pedals mate, that should narrow it down. Thanks man. :-)

    • @spark300c
      @spark300c 7 лет назад

      you could overdriving the input. digital amps and interfaces sound inharmonic when overdriven. analog amp just go into fuzz mode when overdriven. with my stealth plug guitar interface I had to have volume tuned down on my custom fuzz pedal. the problem is my stealth plug was not made to take pedals so limiter broke and recording volume dropped. I now think about get fender mustang amp because I think it can handle pedals better

    How do wah pedals do with these amps?

  • @webseiter
    @webseiter 10 лет назад

    Thanks for these great demos! I'm currently thinking of buying a modeller for home use. I usually use a small tube but for rather quiet practicing it limits you more or less.
    So.. Mustang III V.2 (probably the head) or Yamaha THR10C? The Yamaha has just what I need, is portable and all. The Mustang could serve even beyond home practice, has an effects loop, is footswitchable and has more models.
    But can you get a good tone at low volumes with the Mustang or does it require ultra-sensitive fingers on the volume knob as the combo has 100W and the head 75 (x2)?
    Thanks and keep on doing these really great videos! :-)

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  10 лет назад +1

      Hi Alexander. I don't know much about Yamaha amps but if you like Fender tones I would buy the Fender. See which one you like most and take it from there. The volume incline is not as touch sensative as a tube amp so you'll have a decent flow on the volume control. Thanks for the nice comments. :)

    Shane, all those videos with Mustang III are so great. Which one do you think is better Blues Jr or Mustang or maybe Excelsior? I'm playing mostly at home, sometimes at rehearsals/small gigs. Thanks for advice.

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  10 лет назад +2

      For home use you could get either. Excelsiors are out of production now so you might struggle to find them new depending on where you are. For playing at home I would say the Mustang and Blues Jr would be a better choice than the Excelsior because there's no reverb on the Excelsior and the build quality is better on them as well. Small gigs Either Mustang or Blues Junior (Mustang III is way bigger and better sounding in my opinion now - I am shocked!) so you could play either live fine. Excelsior comes last for live as well due to lack of headroom/volume..
