What make this scene even sadder is the fact no one really cared that rorschach was dead other then Dan and that was only for a short time I mean be as the only dedicated one out of the lot and he stood by his views no matter what and was not afraid of the consequences such an awesome and deep character
One thing I've never noticed until recently was how the snow which at the start was falling stopped and held still when they first started talking. It moves once more after Walter dies. Time might have stood still in that moment when they were talking, so ultimately Rorschach may have already been at the moment of death and Dr. Manhattan was holding him in that moment to try and persuade him out of talking. Quite the subtle detail.
dr. manhatten wasnt really a villain. and rorschach definitely wasnt a hero. an anti-hero at best. he was a psychotic murderer that lived under his own moral code putting judgment on “good” and “bad” as be pleased. the world was black and white for him, no grey zones. dr. manhatten wasnt some mad man looking to reign the world or destroy it, he actually saved it looking at the bigger picture. both characters were flawed and not typical flashy superhero and grumpy villains at all. this movie was so good because it was a relatable drama and not some typical, generic mcu/dc goodies vs baddies premise

Rorschach is the last person in the squad who deserves to go out like that... He is my favorite character by far in the movie. So cool and badass. Best superhero ever. I'm so sad at this moment. Just feel horrible about his fate he did so many good and helpful things in the film for the team. Walter Kovach is awesome. And Jackie Earle Haley is an incredible actor. Wish Manhattan didn't have such a bad judgment. For me Ozymandias & Manhattan are just corrupted terrorists doing awful crimes and mutilating humanity in the process with their twisted actions. Rorschach actually cares for justice, order and betterment of society. Emotional, heartbreaking but also a horrible scene because this was not right. This is the wrong thing to do. I was rooting for Rorschach, no wonder the sequel died with him. Most epic mask, voice and face ever. Veidt only cared about looking professional he is a crazy, terrible and an egotistical person and the same thing can be said about the spiritual crybaby Dr. Manhattan. Rorschach is the only one who understands things and looks into them meticulously. Like a true good detective would. Manhattan and Ozymandias only care about their pride not being broken. Rorschach didn't turn a blind eye to anything. I hate when corruption wins like it did in Watchmen. Still an absolute masterpiece of cinema. Rorschach is the best. So much charisma, willpower and personality.
How wasn't Jackie Earle Haley not Nominated for Best Supporting Actor Oscar for this flawless performance I will never, never understand! I don't care if he was wearing the mask for a lot of scenes still doesn't hide how good his performance was! One of the best Acting performances of all time for real! 👌

Manhattan probably knew Rorschach was already going to win either way but like he said “time is relevant” even if Rorschach lived or died the world would still lose hope and peace because in the end humanity destroys itself and nature wins, always.
I loved this film the first time I saw it. Through repeated viewings and watching clips like this multiple times I realised it was just Jackie Earle Haley's Rorschach I loved.
Everyone else in this damn comments section is talking about whether or not Rorschach needed to die, or about the comic book compared to the movie, but you, sir, felt the need to question Dr. Manhattan's eyebrows. I commend you, good sir, and would very much like to present you with an Internet. You win the Internet.
For the same reasons he's bald while he had hairs, or he has racoons eyes or he has a hydrogen atom stamped on his head, or he has the body of Calum Von Moger: AESTHETICS.
This is the saddest moment in the movie. I was soo upset about it, but now I realize that although it looks like Viedt and Doc Manhattan won, an achievement based on a lie is never enduring. There will be questions and there will be answers, one day people will know the truth, it never stays hidden forever. So Rorschach sacrificed himself to save the world from a war and his principles, but history will prove that he won in the long run too.
"I'm leaving this galaxy. To a one a little less complicated". The unprecedent weight of that line. Having watched this movie and studied storytelling, I realize Dr. Manhattan wasn't talking about how life in Earth was so painful to experience, but how with all his powers, the one thing he could never do was to understand the infinite ways humans can see life. The stress this caused him was so real, that even his life was changing, like when they were making love and he just goes "I don't know what you like anymore", there were too many changes that he just decided that it was better to have a peaceful and simple life. That was the whole point of the ending: once he finally leaves, people on Earth finally unites, no wars, no crimes, no nothing, just humanity taking care of each other, embracing the simplicity of how easy that was
I have finally finished the Watchman comic and I have to say....this scene did justice to Rorschach's from the extremely good additional dialogue to the amazing visual presentation.
14 years ago and we had Nite Owl pulling his cowl just like the comics and cartoons super heroes. Never in another movie again. Wish to see Batman do something like that in the future movies
Compromise based on emotion and logic. Don't compromise in the face of violence. Or death. Rorshach didn't love or plan beyond his animalistic killings. But that left him unable and unwilling to compromise. Sometimes... Often... The only moral choice is to spit in the face of God, knowing he's winding up a thunderbolt.
Rorschach reminds me of Aiden Pearce so much. Both are strong, cunning and smart vigilantes with cool trench coats, and we of course have to mention that both have an awesome gravelly voice.
Really the only sad part in this film, too bad Rorschach had to die, he's probably the greatest example of a man, a hero that I've seen in movies in a long, long time
I think what you took away from this movie was that Rorschach, ironically, ends up being the most sane/just. What good is a utopia if that utopia is a lie? Anyway, this whole story needed many characters, but Rorschach was the most interesting of them in the movie. The graphic novel gives more insight into Dr. Manhattan's character though.
Raymond Grant If you read the novel, they are all made interesting characters. I still loved the movie, but it didn't have the time to show enough about the characters and their purpose and representation (Rorschach's view of decisions being only black or white, the grey areas count for nothing, The Comedian is only a reflection of modern humanity and is only as evil as the society he lives in and what a joke it is, Ozymandias sees that the world as his responsibility because nobody else will take it upon them selves to steer it away from armageddon.
The point of it was that there is no real "bad guy" just superhumans with the means to improve the world.. Whom also all see different ways of doing it
GentxScholar Maybe that's true, but do they really know better? Veidt may have solved the Cold War, but he lied to all of humanity. What happens when the truth comes out? If you remember, Rorschach's journal finds its way to the paper...

I can not agree more. I saw the movie first and when I read the comic and came to this scene i was like WTF NITE OWL? your ''best friend'' dies and your shagging Silk Spectre? That blew it for me. That made me like the movie so much more (Ok except for the sex scenes, those were just awkward)
But did you like the alien squid?
@@Uriakatos it was creepy but that would never work in a movie. And still, some people critized snyder for not adding the rainbow squid.
What make this scene even sadder is the fact no one really cared that rorschach was dead other then Dan and that was only for a short time I mean be as the only dedicated one out of the lot and he stood by his views no matter what and was not afraid of the consequences such an awesome and deep character
0:57 can we consider this as doctor Manhattan trying to see a future where Rorschach doesn't tell the world?
No
Gf: "In relationships you have to compromise."
Me: "No compromise, even in the face of armageddon." :)
Very nice catch. I noticed that too but you explained it well
This is the only superhero movie where the Villain explains his plan and wins
well the lesser evil won in this case. the greater evil was allowing humanity to destroy itself with nuclear war that was about to happen
dr. manhatten wasnt really a villain. and rorschach definitely wasnt a hero. an anti-hero at best. he was a psychotic murderer that lived under his own moral code putting judgment on “good” and “bad” as be pleased. the world was black and white for him, no grey zones. dr. manhatten wasnt some mad man looking to reign the world or destroy it, he actually saved it looking at the bigger picture. both characters were flawed and not typical flashy superhero and grumpy villains at all. this movie was so good because it was a relatable drama and not some typical, generic mcu/dc goodies vs baddies premise
@@yopeepthestyle8308 he is talking about Ozymandias, Obviously. But nevertheless your Explanation is ok Point, and The only relevant Answer, why 95% of the Movies/Shows are just Trash to average.
And yes, Ozymandias did it also for the greater good, that's why he is such an good Antagonist. But also because of his Design, overpowerd Martial arts skills, his handicap to see what do do People in their movements next, his Dialouge damn, and Of course his Intilligence. All this combined, made him to THE Villian/Antagonist ever made, and without a sweat to the best "superhero" Villian/Antagonist.

Heard of project 2025?
That was quick and painless.
1:07 the first "do it" was really better as most people would actually be like that
When you grow up, you start appreciating Rorschac far more.
Guess I'm all grown up now
Whenever I re-watch this movie I do not watch the end. I know he dies. But, I don't want to admit it.
I always saw this scene as Rorshach knowing this was probably the best way to do it but he couldn't be a part of it so he wanted to die. Maybe I am wrong but the acting was just immense.
He is too stubborn for that
This is so underrated, it's snyder masterpiece and one of the best superheroes movies of all time!! (check out the ultimate cut it's improve a lot in this)
There are some things this movie did better than the comic, Nite Owl being present for Rorschach's (his friend) death and his reaction is one of them!
The Best Dark Comicbook movie adaptation of all times !
@The DX Network This is still the darkest Comic book film ever made! By far. Joker was dark but comparing it to this, Watchmen for sure was darker.
@The DX Network True, I ain't going to argue about that. But if we comparing Watchmen and Joker, watchmen for many people will be a darker film. Sin City on other hand you could argue...
@The DX Network For me tho, Watchmen is the darkest one out of 3.
@@nox5870 Watchmen, BvS Ultimate Edition and Man of Steel are all great
@@y2123-l8c then why do people hate all these 3 movies
Jackie Earle Haley is the perfect cast to play Cletus Cassidy/Carnage. With his portrayal as Rorscach here, and his face that looks like comic's Cassidy, it's perfect
We need a Rorschach in today's society
People would call him mad. I know that for a fact of life.

No, we definitely do not. I find his character fascinating, however he would not benefit society he would just make it worse

But not as badass as V. That motherfucker didn't stopped until his Vendetta was finished, even is he was dead.
@@gilbertorodriguezmunguia3773 Rorschach sacrificed all he had, so much little but so much more, his beliefs and his life, V did the same, and in the final hour they offered everything. Hard to compare tho.
A Rorschach movie with Jackie Earle Haley would be awesome.
I think Nightowl's reaction is absolutely soul destroying
"If you'd cared from the start, none of this would've happened"
What an amazing and incredibly heart wrenching moment superbly played by all actors . Even the emotionless manhattan somehow portrayed sadness and regret for what he was about to do . Rorschach was always my favorite he sort of reminded me of batman only he kills
I screamed with sadness when first saw this, I still do.
You Either Die A Hero, Or You Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain
He died a hero
Manhattan lived long enough to become a villain
@@luciisladica7060 that's how a God supposed to be, but Manhattan isn't necessarily a villain. For humans, maybe. But in larger picture, not even close as much as him being the good force/hero
@@luciisladica7060 depends on who you think is the hero and villain. Many could consider rorschach as the villain for threatening to ruin ozzys utopia
Tragic and intense moment that cripple your senses with a sad loss. Watchmen rocks. The dark, dystopian tone makes it special. 10 years later, still tighter and much better than the all 3 Disney Wars movies.
Omg , that "nooo" just always gives me chills
"I can change almost anything..............................................................but I can't change human nature. Christopher Walken would be proud of dat dramatic pause.
Such an underrated film. And Jackie Haley is also an underrated actor as well.
That second “DO IT!!” Was so powerful.
Jackie Earle Haley is one hell of an actor, he carried this movie.
Manhattan probably knew Rorschach was already going to win either way but like he said “time is relevant” even if Rorschach lived or died the world would still lose hope and peace because in the end humanity destroys itself and nature wins, always.
What an actor. What a movie.
1:14
Look at da flick of that wrist!
DO it!!!!
This movie was worth watching just for this one scene. The actors performed so well! The "do it" the shout at the end. Perfect
I like how his bloodsplatters almost symmetrical, alike the Rorschach ink blots he sports, left his mark on the world, psychically.
I think this is Zack Snyder's best movie and one of the best superhero movies of all time.
This has got to be my most favorite of all scenes within this movie, it's so..powerful. I cannot stop watching this.
I loved this film the first time I saw it. Through repeated viewings and watching clips like this multiple times I realised it was just Jackie Earle Haley's Rorschach I loved.
Rorschach went out like a badass. That's something.
Your move...creep.

Why does Dr. Manhattan have eyebrows?
Everyone else in this damn comments section is talking about whether or not Rorschach needed to die, or about the comic book compared to the movie, but you, sir, felt the need to question Dr. Manhattan's eyebrows. I commend you, good sir, and would very much like to present you with an Internet. You win the Internet.
Why though
@@townrat8283 Presumably they tried getting rid of them and it looked worse.'

AESTHETICS.
Why does he even have a physical form?
Jackie Earle Haley born to play Rorschach.
"If you cared from the start none of this would have happened"
They don't make movies like this anymore :(

Compromise based on emotion and logic.
Don't compromise in the face of violence. Or death.
Rorshach didn't love or plan beyond his animalistic killings.
But that left him unable and unwilling to compromise.
Sometimes...
Often...
The only moral choice is to spit in the face of God, knowing he's winding up a thunderbolt.
They missed out one small yet powerful detail. Rorschach in the comic cried when he said do it

Rorschach reminds me of Aiden Pearce so much. Both are strong, cunning and smart vigilantes with cool trench coats, and we of course have to mention that both have an awesome gravelly voice.
A godlike being, who has taken countless lives before without ever batting an eye, first time felt hesitation when taking just one more.
Legends say that Night Owl became Ocean Master at this moment.
Really the only sad part in this film, too bad Rorschach had to die, he's probably the greatest example of a man, a hero that I've seen in movies in a long, long time
There is no better actor for this role.
Rorschach was the only character that made this film worth watching
I think what you took away from this movie was that Rorschach, ironically, ends up being the most sane/just. What good is a utopia if that utopia is a lie? Anyway, this whole story needed many characters, but Rorschach was the most interesting of them in the movie. The graphic novel gives more insight into Dr. Manhattan's character though.
That's BS.
your correct Rorschach was a bad ass the best charater in the watchmen
Raymond Grant If you read the novel, they are all made interesting characters. I still loved the movie, but it didn't have the time to show enough about the characters and their purpose and representation (Rorschach's view of decisions being only black or white, the grey areas count for nothing, The Comedian is only a reflection of modern humanity and is only as evil as the society he lives in and what a joke it is, Ozymandias sees that the world as his responsibility because nobody else will take it upon them selves to steer it away from armageddon.
