- Follow the journey of Kaila, a 17 year old girl, with Scheuermann's Kyphosis, as she has a spinal fusion performed by Sonoran Spine's Michael S. Chang, MD.
Prior to surgery in August 2014, Kaila had a 72 degree curve and was in a lot of pain. Following a successful surgery her curve now measures 40 degrees!

I’m 69 and having the surgery towards the end of the year. Already had a Harrington rod fusion with the rods removed back in 89 for a scoliosis. I appreciate you making this video. I am now 70 and it’s May with my surgery coming up in December. My biggest relief will be hopefully standing upright and no more oxycodone 4 times a day. I volunteer at our local hospital gift shop, however I can feel myself getting so tired so easily. You are my inspiration. 🤞 Good luck!
Thank you for making this video, not alot of videos out there on this ya know :)
Her video is awesome , and I'm so relieved to view it all.my son is about to go through this
How is he now?

Thank you for this video. I have the same condition and am getting the surgery in a few months.
Yeah, how was it?
Thanks for the video. At 52 I have finally been told I have Scheuermann's Kyphosis. My dad is bent halfway over from the same disease and I don't want to end up like him. I will be trying physical therapy first and then when that doesn't work I will be opting for surgery. I figure I will do it 6 month to a year from now and am very nervous. But I look forward to having better posture for sure.
I have this and I'm 38 never been offered surgery just told to do exercises now pain is getting worse in upper back I was only told I had it when I was 35
Its more of a self confidence problem as you might have a poor self image . When you grow and mature it can be less obvious unless its very bad.
HELP PLEASE GIVE YOUR INPUT PLEASE. I have the same condition but my neck is angled far downward and way more forward than most people with scheuermans kyphosis and my T1 thru T5 appears to also he wedge shaped preventing the neck from coming back even if my whole ELLIPTICAL T2 thru T10 back curve gets straightened. If i had kyphosis surgery i would need to have my neck brought backwards with surgery also as Well as my T1 thru T6 or so has a side tilt to the left that pulls hard sideways on my neck. So i have 2 hard pulling forces front and to the side of my neck and upper back. That also affects my vagus nerve. My neck curve also has 30 MM of anterior translation. Do they do surgery on T1 thru T5 to bring the neck back if they are wegde shaped? because the surgery on the kyphosis would NOT work to bring the neck back if T1 thru T5 are wedge shaped even if only a few neck ones are.. The pulling on my neck feels like a heavy bowling ball and causes me bad mental and physical symptoms.. Bad brain fog, dissociation, making my brain feel twisted in a hard knot with tremendous ligaments, nerve and muscle tension thru head neck shoulders back and pelvis. Forward head posture makes kyphosis way more disabling than without it.. The reason my neck is angled way farther downwards is because of my posture in school with head down at a desk sleeping and that would make my posture issues worse than MOST PEOPLES KYPHOSIS.. With that.extra hard pulling on the neck!
How are you?
I hope you are fine...
I got same problem and I'm 29 years old but I'm too scared that this surgery will ruin my career coz I work with 80-120 kg pieces everyday.
I have this too but I have no pain
That's great to hear!
I’m a 17 year post-op from T4-L2 and I was wondering how and why do you let your patients go back to “normal” lives when I tried to, all I did was cause the discs above and below to fail. I lost my job because I could no longer perform the duties of the job. Please explain how many long term patients you have are doing and what factual basis do you have that supports your advice you gave her.
Sorry dor that situation, how did it progress?
When did you have the surgery and where?
All that pain and suffering and all that was givin was vicodin? Hell no. That is insanity. This makes me scarred to death.
I'm a guy, 16, with a 75 degree curve. Nervous about surgery, don't know if I want it soon or want to wait awhile.
Andrew Powers I'm a girl, i'm 14, with a 75 degree curve. I'm very nervous about surgery as well!! and will be getting it this November, but i can't wait for my neck pain and back pain to go away, how are you doing? Did you get the surgery, it would be great for you to reply : )

@@dr1036 I never had it !!! I wore a back brace I think only for a year and my back got to a point where they said I didn’t need it. I’m 19 now, I definitely think it’s curved again but less severe. idk it’s still painful, sometimes wish I got surgery but at the same time kinda just forget about it…
@@emmadontfwmolly im glad that back brace helped you, did they tell you how much degrees was your curve
You are too cute
