Just got my ACDF done. I wanted to tell you that your video helped ease a LOT of my fears. I'm feeling great even at day two of recovery. Thank you for helping me with that last little bit of confidence I needed to get this done.
I had this exact surgery done about a year ago and everything she is saying is spot on. I was apprehensive about having it done, but I am so glad I did! As soon as you wake from surgery you'll immediately notice you'll be pain free. To be honest, worst part of the surgery was the sore throat afterwards when trying to swallow. I have since fully recovered with no issues. Having the surgery was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
@@mgansworth78 that's understandable. I didn't get nervous til the day of my surgery but at that point I just wanted to hurry and get it over with. The excruciating pain & sleepless nights were driving me insane.
@@FLguy01 Omg that's exactly what I'm dealing with now and what's making me decide its finally time to do this. I NEVER SLEEP ! I cannot get comfortable for any length of time because I wake up numb constantly
62 yo. I'm one week post-op ACDF. C4-C7 fused. Three discs excised, replaced with titanium cage with cadaver bone and other materials put in there. Eight screws, three plates. Feel better than expected. Was kept there three nights. Insurance jacked me around for 2 months over allowing me ONE overnight stay! I was draining a lot through the first two nights. My throat is better than anticipated. Coughing, sneezing and clearing my throat hurt, like having a bad cold, how the chest, back and neck hurt. For the first couple of nights in my own bed, my LOWER back hurt badly. I hurt it thirty years ago, but haven't had problems for over a decade.
Thanks for your video it gave me confidence. I just had ACDF surgery about 5 hours ago. I'm doing pretty well. My throat is not near as sore as I thought it would be. Right now, I have 0 pain in my neck and incision area. However I do have some pain my shoulder blade area. Best of luck to anyone having it.
@@MetalDetroit My doctor told me a few weeks and told me I could drive whenever I got off the meds. However it's been a year and a half since I've had the surgery and the pain is coming back in my neck. I don't know if I'm sleeping wrong or if something else is wrong. So I've started back wearing my neck brace when I sleep to see if that will help.
Tomorrow 01/27/23 is my surgery & I really needed to see your video. I have looked & looked for information & sure it's been all clinical but I needed to hear the real life version. Thank you.
I’m a month out from this surgery. Wish I would have watched this before having it done. I was so nervous to have it done, but it was literally a walk in the park. The sore throat was awful, but the surgery was nothing. I took Tylenol for pain for about 3 days and that was it. The hardest part of the whole thing is learning to relax and not overdo things. My incision is only about 3” long. To hear you say you had staples was the only thing that was different from my surgery. This is a great informative video and everything you said is spot on. Thanks for sharing this!
This is the first positive video I've seen regarding this surgery. After receiving my MRI results, I'm meeting with a neurosurgeon to discuss surgery for acdf C5-C6, C6-C7 with nerve root impingements bilaterally in C6 and C7. Same as you mentioned, they'll need to remove bone spurs. They need to widen my spinal canal since it's only 7 mm and I have flattening in my spine so it's putting pressure on my spinal cord. I'm extremely nervous about the surgery but also because I'm used to working out 5 days a week and when I can't it's very difficult. I hope my recovery goes as well as yours, and thank you for posting all of the updates. I'm curious about the supplement you mentioned and would love to hear more 💜
My fiance had it , Didn't need a brace and he was power washing the house on the 3rd day back to work after the 10th - I did a video on it , plus he was in two accidents and still going strong .
I had this surgery Jan 27. The worst part was the cramped muscles from the position they put you in for surgery. Also the throat pain. It was harder than I expected. I am on day 5 and still eating cream of wheat and oatmeal. Food gets stuck. I have to wash it down with water and hard swallowing. The incision doesn't hurt. My arm nerve pain is gone. My arms feel the same weight. I still need a little meds but only 2 times a day. I must of done too much today cause It felt fine when I woke up then my arm hurt a four afters after I woke. So I went 9 hrs with out pain meds.
I'm scheduled for ACDF surgery in 11 days, I'm a little nervous because this is my first major surgery as an adult. Thank you for posting this video, it was a blessing to me and helped lower my anxiety. Hope all is well!
I am a week out from having this surgery. Going thru the emotions of it all. I am so glad that i was able to see your video. There are many out there. You video has put me at ease. I realize the complications that could be involved however I hadn't seen too many positive ones so I thank you for the positivity you have shown and now that i feel !! Ty for sharing your point of view!! Hope you are well.
I’m out of ACDF surgery, two weeks today. I watched your videos, to prepare myself, and found them to be very reassuring. I’m 70, and had right shoulder surgery, in January. Instead of the pain going away, it got a lot worse. My new complaints sounded more cervical, so my orthopedic surgeon sent me for an MRI of my neck. He glanced at it and said, “You need a neurosurgeon.” I picked Dr. Peter Shedden and am thrilled to hear that he’s your surgeon, as well.
@@barbaramazzocca4605 I’m doing wonderfully, thanks for asking. This surgery cleared up issues I didn’t realize I had. My gait has improved dramatically, and I’ve lost 37# since the surgery, because I feel like walking everyday. I’ve got my life back. 😊
My surgeon made me wear a cervical collar for six weeks, and then I wore a bone stimulator 4 hours a day for another 3 months. My surgery was 7/15/20, and he released me in January. I had great results, but I did everything he asked me to do, too. I am completely back to normal (better than the normal I had accepted before the surgery). It’s a scary surgery to think about, and I was terrified I would wake up paralyzed, but I’m so glad I did it.
I'm having this surgery for C5 C6 in a few weeks. Your experiences are helping me a lot. To know more what to expect after the surgery. I've talked to several friends who have had it and they all say I'll be glad I did it. But to see you and hear you a week after yours, helps tremendously! Yes, I have a great surgeon who explained it thoroughly, but it helps so much more . Just the idea of somebody cutting into my neck is scary. He told me he goes in through the front, uses cadaver bone, etc but to see you in a collar, explaining what happened to you during the first week makes it easier to deal with. Thank you.
Candie Ward Had mine this past 28 January at NY. Understand it’s normal to be anxious before, but after the surgery now 5 days I’m with no pain! Used to be so bad I could not sleep. It’s a slow process to recovery but I see a future now. Be positive and all the best to you.
@@1947anubis, thank you for this reply. This helps me even more. Right now I'm in PT, which helps a lot, but not totally and it's getting worse. I think once it's over with, I'll feel like you. I have to be honest and say the idea of somebody cutting into my neck scares me too. Even though my surgeon is excellent and I trust him completely. There are so many positives to the whole experience. Among them not having to worry about permanent nerve damage!
Try to set up careworkers to come in once a day post op if your community has a homecare company or else hire someone. They can come in for an hour, cook a bit, sweep and dust, and check up on you. Hope all goes well.
Im scheduled to have this done after years of agony, I finally found a doctor who listened and hearing your experience makes me feel really good! Thanks so much.
Thank you for sharing in such a positive way. I am having ACDF surgery C3, C4, and C5 this Thursday (1/24), and your message helped to calm me a bit. I wish you the best with the rest of your recovery!
I have to have the same discs done and I am very nervous. I only have neck pain and headaches, no arm pain and the are using metal discs. Not sure what is best. Hope all is well
I’m also recovering from the same surgery. C5-C6 then C6-C7 with an orthopedic surgeon. They did do nerve monitoring too. 5 days out and I’m doing ok. Just can’t wait to get the neck brace off!
I am 26 years old and I'm having this surgery done in a couple of months. I have had some nervousness about it, but after watching this video, I am filled with excitement. I actually had to pause the video to cry at the possibility that after the surgery, the pain and sensations will be gone. It's been almost a decade of pain for me and this video gave me hope that I can feel normal. THANK YOU!
I had my C4-C5-C6-C7 ACDF surgery Thursday morning, (10/20/22), and it went so much better than I could have hoped for. My surgeon was an Orthopedic spine surgeon, and he used all the nerve monitors and safety precautions that you mention, so I'm not convinced you HAVE to use a neurosurgeon. The key is picking the right surgeon based on experience (whether he be an Orthopedic or Neurosurgeon), and do a thorough vetting to make sure they use all the latest safety precautions. My surgeon has performed over 2,000 of these types of surgeries, so I had all the confidence in the world with him. I didn't have to wear a collar, which I'm so thankful for. I'm on my second day of post-op, and most of the pain and tingling which used to radiate down my arm is completely gone. However, my throat is so sore, so I'm using Cepacol extra strength lozenges. I'm also taking two prescription meds (Oxycodone and a muscle relaxant), because I do have pain and stiffness across the back of my shoulders. I know I'm only two days into this, but without a doubt, the throat pain when I swallow is the absolute worst. I'd recommend the lozenges and sucking on crushed ice. Also, soft foods are the way to go until your body learns how to swallow properly again (stuff like mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, grits, scrambled eggs, jello, ice cream, yogurt - you get the idea. Laura, thanks for the great video. You're almost 4 years into yours, so I'm sure you're at 100%. Thanks again.
How was your surgery? I need this surgery but I'm taking the conservative route with my neurologist and only replacing the torn c-7. Hope you feel better
@@danoneall4013 I had it in March! And now after I feel like I have a brand new neck! No issues..at all! And no pain! Good luck!! I hope you find relief!
@@tms5506 - That is great to hear. I'm so happy. You might have changed my mind to get everything done at once instead of taking the conservative approach. I had the choice so now I may do it to get it all done and not worry about it again. Thank you. I well give you an update.
@@danoneall4013 let me just add..recovery was difficult..I know some people have an easier time..so its not the same for all. If I had a choice to do a little now..and maaaybe more later..see how it goes. I'd want to get it done and only go through that once. Just a thought I had. We did the PT and so much more..until I just continued..daily..weekly to have.. something. Some pain..discomfort..ect. in the end..as I said..as scared as I was..I'm so grateful
The is by far the best info I have seen ANYWHERE! Actual real life and what to expect! Answered ALL my questions so I don't feel like I'm doing something wrong. THANK YOU!
Thank you! I am not afraid of surgery, or the pain, I just thought the recovery was going to take a LOT more time and help. At one week out you're where I expected to be in 2-3 months. Of course I am an old, out-of-shape guy, but, even if it takes me two weeks to be there, I'm OK with that. I am really looking forward to the guilt-free screen time. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for posting this. I know it was last year, but I'm getting ready to have this surgery in 9 days and I'm excited, yet nervous. Your video has definitely put me at ease, so thank you!
As someone who is scheduled to have similar surgery soon I really appreciated this video. Thanks for taking the time. What a great personality and easy to listen to.
Thanks so much for your videos!! I’m 2 days post op acdf surgery and very optimistic about the outcome. You’re an inspiration to me and have an awesome attitude. I can’t wait to get back to the gym and the active lifestyle I’m accustomed to! !
Thanks so much for the video, I’m having my surgery in three day’s. I have watched a few of these videos but yours was the most helpful. I’m more assured now with your positive attitude, and helpful tips.
I'm going to be 70 this year and they want me to have the surgery. I have 3 disk's___ C4-5( C5-6) and C6-7!. I'm terrified. I'm raising a almost 12 year old Great Grandson that I've had since birth. This is a very hard decision for me to make, but I am hurting so bad. All through my shoulders all the way down through my spine and my neck and I have pain and numbness on both arms running down. Any suggestions for me out there. I could use some prayers right now.
Board-Certified orthopedic spine surgeon here. Great recap! You really knew what you were getting into. I wish my patients did more research and were as knowledgeable about the process as you are. This video goes a long way. Couple of comments: "scars are gnarly and cool" - staples tend to scar more, and I don't know any surgeons who would staple the anterior neck. I saw your scar in a follow-up video and it looks great. For young, active viewers with a similar problem - discuss the possibility of a cervical disc replacement with your surgeon. I don't know if this was an option for you or not, but it's a better alternative to fusion in many younger patients. @TheLauraWilkinson I'm a US Ski team physician - reach out any time if you have any questions. Again, thank you for putting together such an informative video!
I'm going in for C4-C5 and C5-C6 tomorrow morning. Thanks for the very thorough look at what I'm in for. You look fantastic for one week out. I'm less nervous and more hopeful after watching this.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I will be having ACDF in two weeks and as I live alone its a bit daunting! Your positive attitude is inspiring...all the best!
Hi thanks for the video. I’m due to have ACDF soon to remove 3 discs and fuse 4 of the bones together. You’ve given me much confidence I wish you all the best xx
Just wanted to thank you for making such helpful videos! I’m having ACDF surgery in about a weeks time and your recovery videos have helped calm a lot of nerves (pun intended!) in my family. I’m only 22 so my parents have been super stressed out and worried, but after showing them these videos they’re feeling a lot better about the surgery, as am I. Good luck diving!
@@dfy hey there! I’m doing so much better since having the surgery! We’re still not entirely sure what caused the disc prolapses (I had 3). The surgeon said I may have just had weak ones from birth and they eroded over time. My C5-C6 was so damaged it was bashing up against the nerves in my spine and causing some serious nerve pain in my arm and in the shoulder area and neck. Most of that completely went away post surgery. Due to the nerve damage a lot of my right arm is still numb in places, but I got used to it and it doesn’t bother me much anymore. The surgery itself went really well and I definitely recommend taking it.
@@NobleAuditore Wow, I have a similar issue - Excruciating Neck, Shoulder and Arm pain w/ numbness and tingling down to my thumb and pointer finger. I am scheduled for an ACDF (C-5/C-6) next month. I’m scared shitless. I’m glad you recovered, especially being that you are so young dude. Stay healthy!
I might have to do this very soon and I am very scared and sad. Thank you for posting this, I have been told some horror stories and your video is lifting my spirits. Take care
MetalDetroit My doctor (neurosurgeon) told me no brace unless I was in a car for the first month, and to sleep as well. In fact it wasnt even a hard brace, he told me only the soft one. This is an ongoing debate. Check facebook there are lot of support groups and this comes up a lot. I have pain flareups every month if I drive too much, that is my biggest source of flareups.
Thank you so much for all the details you shared regarding your road to recovery. It has been VERY helpful for me. I am scheduled to have this surgery in 2 weeks. I am a professional singer and when I discovered all the horrible outcomes regarding the vocal chords, needless to say I was beyond disturbed. BUT, hearing you and your voice and your wonderful recovery has put my mind at ease completely. Thank you for sharing your story. This has helped me and I'm sure it will help thousands more people who have the same fears. Good luck on your road to compete recovery.
Thanks for this video! I thought, ‘I remember watching an Olympic diver named Laura Wilkinson!’ I still remember specifically the story about you visualizing your dives when you were injured. How wonderful to see you again! My surgery is next month and I’m a little nervous. Thank you for addressing so many of the concerns that I have, particularly not being able to drive and trying to slow down when you’re used to moving at top speed all day! And I’m looking forward to getting the feeling back in my right arm and fingers again!
Im having this surgery in 2 days. For months i havent been able to walk without legs shaking, muscle spasms, tingling sensations down my arm. I hope it helps give me energy back and strength 💪
Oh how did it go Justin? How are your legs? I've had neck pain with disc bulge and stenosis for years never connecting the muscle spasms and pain in my legs to my neck. I had an MRI in September and started researching tonight what problems disc bulges in neck can cause I'm 60 yrs old and am looking at surgery in near future
How’d it go? I gave the same symptoms . I have tingling and numbness in both hands, legs and buttocks. I can’t walk without a cane and get weird muscle spasms in my legs.
@@inkdclown I'm sorry to hear your struggles similar to mine. The surgery was successful in the sense it helped with a lot of the numbness and tingling sensations. I still struggle with right leg issues and my arm feels weak but overall it was good. I still have a long way to go because he said the damaged nerves in my neck can take up to a year or more to heal. I also did some physical therapy. I'm still struggling with stress and anxiety which doesn't help but overall better physically.
I just had the same surgery you had…omg you rocked it! Every single thing you said is what I’m experiencing. I’m so thankful you took the time to make this video. Thank you so much! God bless and happy healing!❤
I've had shoulder pain for over a year. In the past month I've had an MRI, EMG, and now my neurosurgeon recommends ACDF from C4 to C7. I really appreciate you making your series of videos about your experience, and (spolier alert!) how well you've done. The one thought I want to add is the importance of having this surgery done early. Nerve function can return, but not if impinged for too long. Thanks again for posting this! Congratulations on your recovery and best wishes as you return to competitive diving!
Thank you for posting this! I am having three level fusion in three days and have been watching videos but this one is the most realistic of what to expect
Tomorrow 04/03/24 will be my 1 week post op from C5 C6 ACDF surgery. I still feel like something is "caught" in my throat, I know it isn't there....just from the breathing tube.
Thank you for your positive attitude and outlook ,it gives me hope. I am exactly 1week out till surgery and have so many questions yet. The information about pain and recovery and actual surgery has helped have more peace and what to expect although you are much younger and fit. I am a former runner and 64 years old. Thank you and you are a awesome athlete. Hope you are completely healed and enjoying your life!
Thank you so much for this video! I’m facing this exact surgery September 23rd. This video was great! I’m a dental assistant and stand on my head all day so am very concerned about it being a career ender. Thanks for the positivity! Great luck to you😊
Much needed video. This is my first major surgery. I'm still concerned about recovery. Seeing your video has given me hope and confidence. I like your collar a lot better than mine. 😂 Thank-you.
Thank you so much for posting your story. I'm less than 2 weeks out from a 2-level ACDF surgery and these posts have helped so much. I'm so glad you are doing so well and diving again. It gives me great hope that I will get my life back. I look forward to doing the things I love so much after I heal.
I had my 2nd fusion (c4-c5) yesterday. Feels way more painful than the first (c5-c6) I had done last summer. Last year, pain meds did not help or even make me sleepy, so I gave up after night 1. Today, I may cave and try again. Thank u for your comforting and supportive video.
Thankyou for this video. I have to get this surgery soon, mine will be C5 thru C6 but it's also been going on for years. I'm scared but I'm so tired of going numb and not sleeping well - EVER. I'm glad you explained this well and made me less afraid. It is scary tho !
Great! The first few days it was slightly difficult to swallow because of the soreness. Did not really need any pain meds at all. By day 7 i was out of the collar and no pain. Some stiffness and pain with a sudden movement but overall i feel fantastic thank God!
OMG!!! thank you for this post. I'm getting ready to have this done in a couple days and am freaking out. watching your video really helped. I ordered the stand, took notes for the doctor too. thank you.
I had this done too and was a piece of cake. Only issue I had was swallowing which lasted about 5-6 days but other than that everything went great. As soon as you wake from surgery you'll immediately notice the pain is gone. I couldn't thank my surgeon enough for relieving me from all the pain I was having.
My surgery went well. I do have lots pain and I'm also having spasms. I'm also still having nerve pain. I do have to have physical therapy because I have been dealing with this since 2016. I'm excited because I can move my right hand now. I had lose use of it. And the migraine went down to a headache. Which having a constant piercing migraine for 3 years, makes me happy to have a strong headache. I'm very happy that I done it. Praying for you to have a speedy recovery
Laura, I just happened to see this video in a search for recovery from C4-C7 repair. I cannot tell you how encouraging your information was for me. I have been so anxious since learning I will need this surgery, and you have been the most positive post-surgery recovery honest advice. Thank you for the tip for the adjustable laptop stand. I know that will be a huge help for me. I look forward to seeing your next update. And thank you for representing the USA in the Olympics. Congratulations on your bringing home the gold. Be well and be blessed.
This video has been incredibly helpful! After a failed ACDR at c5-c7 with facet issues I’m finally going in for a revision surgery acdf 🙌🏻. Your video gives me comfort.
Thanks for the videos. I saw all the videos that you have made. 15 days ago I got a C6 C7 surgery where they replaced the disk. Everything went fine didn't have that much sore throat ate a sandwich right after the surgery, and didn't feel pain afterward. Maybe because of the medicine that i got had some pain after the 1 week after coming out of the medicine. Thanks for some really great videos.
Thanks for this video. I’m scheduled next week. Can you send more information about the anti inflammatory supplement. I have a lot of hand arthritis and fear no NSAIDs for 3 months.
I’m recovering from the same surgery. So I’m listening to you speak young lady and the more I listened I’m thinking that I wouldn’t be surprised if she is a believer. Then you mentioned bible and quiet time. An unbeliever wouldn’t be likely to bring that up. I think I just witnessed the Spirit bearing witness to the Spirit. May the Father bless you in your recovery and your life with Him
Thanks for the video. I had ACdf 3days ago and it helps to know what to expect. I had three disk replacements c4-c7. It’s a work in progress to find the most comfortable, sleeping position. I have a wedge and two pillow cube pros which are great. Best decision I made after 7 years of pain
I am so happy 😀🙏🙏🙏. I was looking for a video or like a support group. I will be doing this exact surgery in two days. I read the comments and I am more comfortable. I leave everything in the Lord’s hands now. Yes !!!!!😀 Thanks everyone and continue to recover.
I have cervical stenosis and will be having a laminoplasty at UCSF. I am happy to run across your videos. It seems you had the ACCF (anterior cervical corpectomy with fusion). And I am very happy for you for your great result. Thanks for sharing.
@@HumansAreKind it went great! The recovery was a bit painful for about a week or so, but pain meds helped a ton. I am over two years in and feel great!
Really good to see this. I have watched them all about 10 times. I have 6 days until this happens along with right hand (dominate) carpal tunnel surgery and to be honest I am scared to death. The feeling I have now is one that I have experience only a couple times in my life and that is when I was in Afghanistan knowing that we were about to get into something serious. There is so much stuff out there to scare the crap out of you, but this is a little more uplifting. Thank you for putting this out!
I appreciate your sincere sharing of your experience. I am scheduled for a 3 level ACDF on 6/24/2021 and do have some nerves but also have heard mostly good experiences. Glad yours went well and hoping mine does too! :-)
@@sravankumar1202 I was able to get back to work approximately 2 weeks after the surgery. I was fortunate to have a good amount of sick time available to me so I used it to good effect. I am very happy that I had the surgery done and have been back to my exercise routine since the beginning of the year and am feeling quite well! If you are going for this surgery I wish you the best and hope that you have an equally, or better, outcome!
Ahh thank you, I’m seeing my neurosurgeon tomorrow. I have been a little nervous about the spine and nerve stuff. I have degenerative disc disease….severe stenosis due to bone growth and calcification. Vertebrate 6&7. We shall see! Thank you and I pray you have healed quickly!
thank you so much for this. I am getting my c4-c5 fused and have been so stressed. Right now I have such bad nerve pain down my arm, and am on pain meds every 6 hours. I am more concerned about the recovery but was told by my neurosurgeon it isn't too bad but being careful with picking things up afterwards as you mentioned. I'm in my last semester of college so hoping to only miss about 1 week and go back the second week which seems mostly doable!
I have had this surgery 5 days ago on one level C6-7. I felt better right after the surgery than I do now even though the original nerve pain is gone. My throat is still really sore and my shoulders and shoulder blades are incredibly painful and are cramping. Sleeping is painful. I think age and health matters since you are younger and very active. Your story is helpful but it is a best case scenario, so I am happy for you and like your positivity. I wish I felt this good! I guess everyone is different.
MY surgery is on jan 13 I will have fusion front and back C3-C4 Thank you so much for this blog it has help me with some fearfulness WHAT A LADY THANK YOU SO, PEACE GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS Robin
Thank you so much. I’m about to have this done on two levels as well. Mine is C-3 through C-5. It too took awhile to figure out where the problem was coming. I’ve dealt with this over 11 years and the past year things have really escalated. I’ve been watching a lot of these videos. I am with a Neurosurgeon for sure. ❤️
my good friend's girlfriend is recovering from neck surgery (ACDF) Anterior Cervical and discecectomy surgery and is recuperating in a neck brace. I guess its painful and uncomfortable she says? Don't know the feeling never wore one before🤞
I had the same surgery and I was off my pain meds 2nd day. i FEEL AMAZING. I just saw this video now. I am scheduled in 6 days for the same surgery. Mine is C3C4 level. I also have subluxation. Have noticed problems for years. Then one day at work the pain and numbness in my arms and hands worsened and I lost the ability to move them. Problem was found at the ER. My legs are also affected. This video was very helpful.
Excellent video thank you for posting. I had 3 level acdf Fusion recently...49yo... did very well neck pain nearly completely gone arm pain and numbness gone. All the weakness in my left arm has gone and now I'm working on getting muscle and strength back. As far as range of motion my neck range of motion is the same if not better I know that doesn't make sense I think with all the tightness and guarding in my neck I was very limited. Since I also had with cervical myelopathy which means spinal cord symptoms i think the fusion was the best way to go.. besides the bulging discs and nerve root impingement there were bone spurs and nerve compression of the spinal cord which caused symptoms in my feet and bladder. .that went away also .
That's amazing! I'm 46 and hope to have mine soonish. I have useless forearms at this point, so this is so encouraging and a good push against the fear part of it. Thanks. Hope you continue to do well!
Hello I’m 40 y/o a firefighter and EMS worker and I’m having the same issues with the myelopathy, severe spinal stenosis in 2 levels and bone spurs how is your recovery going I want to get back to work afterwards but my Dr is saying Its likely I will because of my lumbar back history with the fusion there and the fact I’ve had 9 surgeries in my lower back.
I’m 4 days post surgery and already frustrated with the collar. I had same surgery with a nuero surgeon and the nerve studies also. I’m very happy with progress and was much improved the first day after surgery. Thank you for your positive outlook and honesty. I will follow your progress and wish you well.

Just got my ACDF done. I wanted to tell you that your video helped ease a LOT of my fears. I'm feeling great even at day two of recovery. Thank you for helping me with that last little bit of confidence I needed to get this done.
How are you feeling 3 weeks removed from the procedure? Any issues? I'm scheduled to have this procedure at C5-C6 in 3 days and I'm nervous.
That is awesome to hear. I hope it goes as well for me when I finally do get the surgery.
@@mgansworth78 hello..how far out is your surgery?
@@FLguy01 I have my appointment in 2 weeks, we will discuss everything then. But I am nervous about it already
How long did you wear a neck brace? My dr is telling me three months and no driving
@@smitty31560 Oh crap - I’m sorry tot to hear that. The pain I’m having is excruciating.

@@MetalDetroit Well best of luck. The surgery wasn't bad at all. If you can remember let me know how it went.

My C4-C5 and C5-C-6 surgery is the day after Christmas 12/26/23. Thank you for the peace of mind you’ve given me ❤
How's it going?
I'm curious about the supplement you mentioned and would love to hear more 💜
I'm needing this surgery
So scared
I've been watching videos and it scares me more.
You made me feel calm after watching your video
Thank you
I can relate. I'm having this surgery on Friday and I was stressed until watching this.
My fiance had it , Didn't need a brace and he was power washing the house on the 3rd day back to work after the 10th - I did a video on it , plus he was in two accidents and still going strong .
I enjoy working out running ect. That's what I don't want to change I'm terrified
I have had it. Made a ton of difference in my life. Have it in a good institution. Had mine at Hospital for Special Surgery NY.
Thank you so much for telling your experience. I'm 39 & will be having this surgery. You have helped to ease my fears & worry. Thank you.
I'm scheduled for ACDF surgery in 11 days, I'm a little nervous because this is my first major surgery as an adult. Thank you for posting this video, it was a blessing to me and helped lower my anxiety. Hope all is well!
Hi - I’m scheduled to have this done, how long did you wear the neck brace for? My dr is telling me theee months and no driving
hi!can i ask how much the cost of the surgery?
Thank you very much. My nerves feel a little better after listening to you.
You've mad me feel so much better about this surgery. Thank you so much.
How are you now, Nancy?
@@barbaramazzocca4605 I’m doing wonderfully, thanks for asking. This surgery cleared up issues I didn’t realize I had. My gait has improved dramatically, and I’ve lost 37# since the surgery, because I feel like walking everyday. I’ve got my life back. 😊
@@nancysquyres4103 That is wonderful! How was your recovery time?
Thank you.
Candie Ward
Had mine this past 28 January at NY.
Hello
I have c5c6 disc herniation too
I believe you must have done the surgery now
What were your symptoms?
Laura, thank you for posting this video. I’m having the exact same procedure done next week and you’ve given me a level of comfort and hope.
Thank you so much! I'm having this done two weeks from today. I have no one to help me. I live alone. You've made me feel better about this.

How long did you have the brace on? My Dr is telling me three months and no driving.
THANK YOU!
I'm having it done in 2 weeks, also very nervous. Do you know what natural substance she took instead off pain meds?
Sorry about that. I just had the C4-C5-C6, so I added the C7 by mistake. Again, thanks for your great video.

Great recap! You really knew what you were getting into. I wish my patients did more research and were as knowledgeable about the process as you are. This video goes a long way.
Couple of comments:
"scars are gnarly and cool" - staples tend to scar more, and I don't know any surgeons who would staple the anterior neck. I saw your scar in a follow-up video and it looks great.
For young, active viewers with a similar problem - discuss the possibility of a cervical disc replacement with your surgeon. I don't know if this was an option for you or not, but it's a better alternative to fusion in many younger patients.

Hi Ramiz, how did the surgery go and how are you now? 22 years old at the time, wow.. What happened and what were your symptoms?

How was the surgery?
I have cervical stenosis and will be having a laminoplasty at UCSF. I am happy to run across your videos. It seems you had the ACCF (anterior cervical corpectomy with fusion). And I am very happy for you for your great result. Thanks for sharing.
❤ Such a positive outlook you have! Thank you for such detailed & thorough patient expectations!
I am on day 2 post surgery, your great energy and positive vibes really made me feel better. Bless you
Can you please tell me how the surgery went?
Alan, Howe's it going?
Are you get back to work after surgery?
@@sravankumar1202 I was able to get back to work approximately 2 weeks after the surgery. I was fortunate to have a good amount of sick time available to me so I used it to good effect. I am very happy that I had the surgery done and have been back to my exercise routine since the beginning of the year and am feeling quite well! If you are going for this surgery I wish you the best and hope that you have an equally, or better, outcome!
@@alanbrailsford7755 Thank you so much for your reply....
Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm going in next Thursday and this has calmed my nerves a bit.
So grateful for your testimony. I am having this surgery in 3 days
thank you so much for this.
This was great! Not only helpful for me but for my family and friends.❤❤
My surgery is on Oct 3rd.
Thank you for this gift!❤🙏❤🙏
So great to hear! Makes me feel so hopeful! Had same levels as you
Thank you so much.
Your video was an inspiration to me, it gave me the courage to have the surgery. i am up and living no problem no pain at all. my surgery was april 14 2022 my first doctor appt is tomorrow may 9th. I believe it will be a great appt because i have not felt any pain. i only had a couple days at the beginning with swallowing problems which went away after 5 days. Other than that I am like you lol i have to remember I have had surgery ;) thank you for sharing your positive experience with all
How are you doing now?
I am expecting to get ACDF in a week and I am very nervous and worried about it. Your shared experience calmed me down a lot. Thank you!
How are you doing from surgery?
I thank you so much for this wonderful video. I'm 65,and been praying on doing Cervical 4,5,6,7 fusion. It's April 14,i was finger nail close to canceling on Monday. Lord is so good. I am so thankful to you. 😁😁😁
@stevewolfe, I am scheduled for the same surgery in a couple weeks. Are you glad you had the surgery ?
I just saw this video now. I am scheduled in 6 days for the same surgery. Mine is C3C4 level. I also have subluxation. Have noticed problems for years. Then one day at work the pain and numbness in my arms and hands worsened and I lost the ability to move them. Problem was found at the ER. My legs are also affected. This video was very helpful.
Thank you for sharing this. My husband is having this surgery in couple weeks and I found everything you said to be very helpful 💕
Appreciate your video. Getting the ACDF soon and this helps me a lot. Thanks!
I’m 4 days post surgery and already frustrated with the collar. I had same surgery with a nuero surgeon and the nerve studies also. I’m very happy with progress and was much improved the first day after surgery. Thank you for your positive outlook and honesty. I will follow your progress and wish you well.
Thank you much for this video it’s very helpful
I’m having this surgery on Jan 5 ,2023
I feel better about the surgery
I was feeling nervous about it
And I heard so many negative things about the surgery
But now your video made me feel much better
Thanks again
Thanks for sharing. I feel lot better about my upcoming surgery and the recovery involved. Congrats on your gold medals also. I hope you can get another shot!
I’m getting ready for the same surgery, listening to you is a big I Inspiration. and I believe in God 🙏🏽 God Said fear not! Because I am with you. Keep up the great recovery.
How long did you have the brace on? My Dr is telling me three months and no driving.
My surgery is tomorrow. After watching this I feel so much better and more confident
Thanks so much for the details and clarity. This really helped relieve some of my fears
Thank You So Much for this amazing video, Dear Laura! You have given me a lot of clarity, as to what to expect when I have my ACDF surgery, later this month. I really appreciate your thorough account of what you experienced and your positivity about your experience. Finding your channel is a Godsend and I have definitely subscribed! God Bless You and Your Family Always
Thank you so much for sharing. I'm having this exact surgery Monday and have been a nervous wreck. I have a chief surgeon of nerosugery so that helps. Please keep me updated. Good luck to you🙏
