  • 3 years ago this hedge was cut with a Stihl Gas powered trimmer. Today we are going to see if Milwaukee's Battery powered tools can cut it. BUT since the last time it was cut this hedge has grown from 8-10 feet tall to 12-14 feet tall with a few spots hitting more than that. NOT Sponsored- whatever happens happens- I don't care either way.

Flonase has changed my world. I have spent many an hour on the couch with cold wet rags on swollen shut eyes. Technique is important with the nasal spray. Spray the sidewalls of the nose not into sinuses. I have always had to do the steroid packs about mid June for my wicked grass allergies. Not the last two years. Thank you Flonase.

Your videos are great Stan. I like your approach to things, and I always pick up little tips and tricks or get new ideas from watching. I run a lawn/landscaping business over here in New Zealand, it's been really interesting seeing how you guys operate over there.
I have mostly Husqvarna gas outdoor power tools, but I have a kit of Milwaukee battery tools for building decks etc. Most hedges I do with my Husqy pole trimmer, but I needed a regular trimmer for some smaller topiaries I maintain. I decided to go with the Milwaukee M18 Fuel, and I couldn't be happier. It's light, quiet and has all the power I need. I only have 6AH batteries, but I have never run one down more than two bars on a job, and that's probably nearly 2 hours on the trigger. Great machine.
Side note, nice job Jake and Alex.
Cheers mate 👍😎 Thanks for all the great content!

@@Dirtmonkey thanks for the reply boss!
Well, I've noticed everything is bigger in the US... Houses, yards, trucks, mowers.
You shoot in some really beautiful locations, and it often surprises me that a lot of the houses, on those big sprawling lots, aren't fenced in like they would be here. Most properties here rock six foot fences on at least three sides.
I've noticed that you run all side discharge mowers, whereas pretty much all residential lawn contractors in NZ use collection systems. Walker mowers are probably the most popular ZT's here because of that.
I've just recently picked up some commercial mowing contracts, and am looking at a couple of side discharge models... That's another thing, y'all have so much choice in the market, and I've heard you mention the prices of mowers over there... Like, half the price they are here! A local dealership has recently started importing Worldlawn, Graveley and Ariens mowers. I'm looking at the either Worldlawn Cobra or the Graveley Proturn ZX. Would you recommend either? The Graveleys are a bit more expensive, would you say that was justified?

Stanley, I had a 150 ft lenght aborvity hedge that was about 12 ft tall 4ft- 5 ft wide and I used a 6x8 ft scaffold with 2 plankes on top using 8 inch casters, that worked pretty good using a sthil hf85 gas powered hedge clipper with 24 inch bar.,that took about 5-6 hours to trim and clean up, one man total.

Love battery powered stuff the only problem is batteries are expensive and they don't last the amount of charges they tell you I heard of 2000 charge cycles in my experience with both Milwaukee and Dewalt you get maybe up to a 1000 but after 500 you start noticing they don't hold a charge as long

Love the videos! Always watch them.
Anyway, as far as your allergies and what not, even though I'm sure you have long past solved this, but try having your sinuses cleaned. I'm only 27 and haven't been able to really smell much EVER in my life. Allergies weren't too many, but when they DID kick in it was HELL. My boss eventually mentioned the same thing. He couldn't smell for 20+ years! He had his sinuses cleaned and fixed it all!
Sorry for the long comment, but I felt it might help you or someone else.

I have the entire Milwaukee Quik-Lok set. Every attachment flat out rocks. I won't go back to gas. The hedge trimmer attachment with the extension installed pretty heavy and is a workout. The shoulder harness makes is a lot easier on the shoulders, but takes some getting used to. Doesn't help if you still have to reach over your head though. For that I made a bipod out of 1/2 in emt in an a-frame with a little cross at the top with some duct tape about 5 ft high. Then you just set the bipod and all the weight is on it. The duct tape flexes enough to be able sweep up and down in a nice strait line. Move forward a few feet and do it again. I use a full stick of EMT as a bar guide when I want a perfectly straight corner too. When you have strong young guys who know what they're doing, though, it's probably not an issue. Haha! Battery life with the hedge trimmer is ridiculously long. A 5ah battery is plenty for it, but the extra weight of the 9 or 12ah battery counter balances the cutter depending on how long a reach you are using. Great video on a big hedge job. Keep up the great work.

A cheap option for air filtration is just a 20 inch box fan with a high Merv or hepa 20x20x1 furnace filter taped to it. It probably doesn't filter as high a percentage of particles but it will move more air so it works pretty good.

    • @iand8738
      @iand8738 4 года назад

@@mattm6430 Hi Matt. Nah sorry, I don't have any pics up anywhere. I basically took the idea of this device and built my own concept of it. I used the backpack frame from a toddler carrying backpack. Then added to it a square tube frame that extended up and over my head. The tensioning mechanism is an old gas strut from a ute canopy. It has the ability to lift and hold at any position I desire. The strut can be moved along the lifting arm to increase or decrease the lifting force. So I can use it to lift a light weight electric hedge trimmer, up to a 41cc petrol powered multi tool with an additional extension piece. Giving me a maximum reach of nearly 7m. Cheers.

I used to have a lawn mowing company from when I was 10yo and never had any problems at all, and now my work is mostly 2-3 hours west of where I grew up and something about the moister air is giving me fits.

The problem with those tools is the weight for using it for 8 to 10 hrs a day. Claritin D 12 hour in the morning. Flonase nasal spray, 2 sprays in each nostril (some benefit 1st day but takes 7 days for full benefit). A saline nasal rinse before bed to clear everything you've breathed in during the day. If you're still having a hard time sleeping still, may add Benadryl before bed. It is used in most sleep aids and is a strong antihistamine. However, Benadryl can do the opposite and keep you up in rare circumstances. Can also cause you to wake up groggy so it's not a good fit for everyone.

(Allergies) look into Immunotherapy for allergy issues, I have personally gone through it and it works but if you don’t like getting shots then it’s probably not for you. Hope this helps out and by the way love the videos.

If your eyes are hurting, then take anti histamine eye drops.
I use flonase and eye drops for relief.

Take "Clarinex" rather than Clairtin. Doesn't mess with your skull or heart rate. Last time I took it, it was prescription and not cheap. Get a whole house HEPA filtration system. Real money, but being able to breathe and sleep is worth it.

My allergies always killed me every year. I tried Claritan, Allegra D, Zyrtec and nothing seemed to be completely effective. Finally my dr told me to get some Flonase over the counter. Showed me the proper way to use it and I don't have allergy issues anymore that are out of control.

I'm 60 and my allergies have either been sinus or post-nasal drip. I got allergy shots for 17 years then went on claritin, but the straight stuff, not the D. Then when Zyrtec came out I started taking that twice a day. Yeah, it's a 24 hr med, but it doesn't last that long for me, so twice a day works. If you need the decongestant during the day, try taking the straight claritin (no D) at night. The decongestant can make your heart race and give you the jitters. Good luck.

I have a EGO mower which i love. And the 650cfm blower beats the hell out any gas I’ve used and its LIGHT!. I would have got EGO for trimmer and all but in Canada they are all sold out . 6-8wks wait IF it shows up at all. So Milwaukee it was. First time using Milwaukee OPE. Love their impacts and stuff so we will see the quick lok seems legit. Just hope they release a few more attachments ,broom or maybe snow blower🤔 (Ryobi has)

I have found sleeping in the pure filtered air at night then going back into the pollen in morning is worse then sleeping with a window open. That said, if it gets too bad, get out of the pollen and into conditioned air.

For the allergies, I don't recommend this but I'm just telling my story and I'm curious if anyone can explain it to me. I used to get allergies really bad in the spring and fall, couldn't breathe, felt like crap, sore throat, coughing crap up and couldn't see. But right after I started chewing (tobacco) it almost completely stopped.

    • @ex8280
      @ex8280 11 месяцев назад

You immune system was too strong, tabacco probably weakened it.

  • @gungadinn

Stanley, unless you plan on wet wiping your dogs down prior to bed, or keeping them out of the bedroom, there's little you can do that will correct allergies.
You can install electro-static air filters on the HVAC system and HEPA filters on the air ducts, but living where you are and having pets, they're going to drag all kinds of pollen inside.
Your doctor can start you on steroids, but can have long term health effects. Claritin, or Benadryl are two of the most used products for allergies. Both have adverse effects if used with alcohol.
I use Echo string trimmers, and hedge trimmers. Neither would start after being winterized. Pull plug, shoot ether into the plug hole, then pull 15-20 times to get it running.
My Stihl TS400 concrete saw was a little better than the Echo, but not by much. The Stihl Farm Boss chainsaw still isn't running and neither is the backpack blower.
All of these tools were run fuel run dry before being fogged and put up for the season. The gasoline used is non-ethnol and using Stihl 2 stroke oil.
Seriously looking to Milwaukee for the chainsaw, blower hedge trimmer. Getting tired of spending the time to get everything running. The plus for me is the 5 year tool warranty, and three year battery warranty, unlike big Yellow.
The concrete saw might come down to renting one when needed instead of owning.

    • @xenonram

Way more maintenance, unreliability (I know you've pulled the recoil started till your arm hurt, several times), still need to gas up (and mix I the oil), all of which takes a lot longer than swapping a battery. But yeah, I like gas too.
