I first reviewed the FN FNX 45 Tactical 6 years ago and in that video, I called it a tactical masterpiece.
Since then a spade of Full-sized guns chambered in 45 have hit the market. In this video, I take the FNX 45 Tactical out of the safe to see if it's still The Tactical Masterpiece that it was 6 years ago.

I ran the fnx 45 tactical in ghost recon wild lands, never had a malfunction
lol that is a good game!
Same because good luck finding one of these in my communist home state of CA
@@bradleybruh I feel you. I’d move out of state in a heartbeat just for this gun
😂
I ran the fnx 45 in Dayz, my gun jammed after two shots, I got mauled by a bear.
Went gun “browsing” some years ago, saw this bad boy in the case. Told my brother in law “don’t let me pick up that gun” and kept looking around for a bit. Went back over, held it and looked it over, then obviously bought it immediately.
Your brother in law sounds like a good person. He knew what he was doing.
As you should. It turns heads
I adored the one I lost in a tragic ice fishing fire.
Luv it when stories have happy endings!😊
It's one of those guns you just can't pass up if you see one, and it's a good lookin work horse. Got mine in FDE with a matching gizzley comp and an osprey light, named her Cleopatra 💯

Purchased my FN FNX 45 Tactical about a month ago and just got it to the range this morning. This thing is surgical at 10-12 yards! Got it in FDE with Viper however, couldn’t get the Viper properly adjusted. I’m a boomer so I’m partial to iron sights anyway. This is a phenomenal weapon. It’s definitely a keeper for me. This is primarily an offensive weapon and it operates and feels as such. Best handgun purchase in my 60 years on this earth. Surprisingly, the recoil seemed less than my Glock 23 Gen-4. Absolutely love this weapon
Got mine nice and beat the hell up from tons of use…. Not just range, hunting side arm, trail hiking , occasional 45super as well.. love it !
I was wondering about running 45 super in mine, how does yours handle them?
@@trevorj.8401 like a champ and no bulge. It has really good case support. 45s. Has a stronger case as well. I load my 45 super , amazing stuff.
I have an XDm .45 4.5" that I had to upgrade internals to an all around .45super for hunting/fishing in bear country. Solid steel guide rod, increased power internal springs all around and increased power mag springs. What did you have to upgrade to support unquestionable reliability with the FN? Did you upgrade anything? Aside from wear reduction, the biggest challenge I had to overcome was the slide cycling so fast that, without higher strength recoil and mag springs, the slide cycled too quickly to pick up the next round. Please advise.
@@reelamor9950 right on!!! Thats good to know!

The FNX-45 TAC wasn't just ahead of its time, it was/is/will remain the archetype.

Classic Colion.
“Well, what you wanna d-*BANGBANGBANG*it’s just th*BANGBANG*quick pull.”
Absolutely. It is my favorite gun in my collection, and is my holy grail handgun. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Do you own an hk45 tactical also ? I’m looking for only one .45 acp for a nightstand gun and can’t decide which one to go with
Bought this almost 10 years ago. Didn't have the FDE but got it in all black like an omen
Same here. Love mine.
Same. Its my boo.
Got the FDE one, added an FDE Vortex Viper, and FDE Streamlight TLR-1 HL. I suppressed it with a SiCo Octane 45 2.0. an absolutely quiet beast. Highly recommend.
I keep reading reviews of lots of blowback with powder from those cans. I’m trying to decide which one I want. Are you still happy with it?
@@noahmiller4953I'm certainly still happy with it. there is a bit of blow back depending on what ammo you use. Higher quality stuff tended to be better. But some guns and ammo endlessly pepper you with unburned powder. My favorite place to use my octane is on my Ruger PC carbine.
That's a great setup!
I rented one of these at a range one time, I still to this day wish I could get my hands on one. Absolute nail driver right out the box. Best groupings I've ever gotten to this day.
Excellent video. I literally just bought this, but haven't yet taken it to the range. Given how long the FNX-45 has been around, it's amazing how it still has all the modern advances of the newest .45 ACPs (and a still unbeatable capacity). I did, however, put on the shorter (and brand new & improved) Olight Baldr S combo light/laser, which does NOT extend past the end of the slide (something I'm quite compulsive about). For home defense ammo I just bought some 45 ACP +P 78 Grain Fragmenting HP - Liberty Ammunition Civil Defense, which has a Muzzle Velocity rivaling that of rifles at 1,900 Feet Per Second, and because of that velocity, its Muzzle Energy is an amazing 625 Foot Pounds, but because of it's low projectile weight, it has much less felt recoil than the standard 230gr. (with Federal +P HST JHP's Muzzle Energy' being a meager 461 Foot Pounds (with a lot more recoil). I'll also be testing out the 45 ACP +P 200 Grain JHP - Speer Gold Dot, with an FPE of 518 (still higher than the HST) because of its lower velocity of 'only' 1080 FPS (and still a lower recoil than the HST). The Gold Dots might find their way into the same magazine after a few of the Liberty rounds, just in case. I had wanted to try the .45 ACP Underwood Xtreme Defender +P 120gr. (1,420 FPE, 537 FPE), but they're sold out everywhere (even the manufacturer). And BTW-if anyone knows of a shoulder holster that will accommodate the FNX-45 with an RMR and Olight Baldr S (and hopefully a spare mag), I'd most certainly appreciate hearing about it. I emailed FN a few weeks ago to see if they could make a recommendation, and so far just crickets.
The only other gun that can compete is the HK USP 45 Tactical. It’s an excellent gun as well, but the FN wins with capacity and more modern features.
True but not durability. I own both the USP45T and the FNX45T. H&k has the proven track record with the German army, special forces, nato testing and so on. The FNX is somewhat “untested”. For this reason I do not rely on it to the same level I do my USP45’s. Great gun still though!
I like mine in 9😎
I guess everyone forgot about glock 21
@@marcuslocklear7026 incredible gun as well! Just doesn’t run as wel suppressed which is a deal breaker for me. Plus I can be much more precise with the trigger in the USP but that’s just me. Carry on brother
H&k usp 45 ..all day long
After a hard day of work just hearing the gun fire at the beginning of this video soothes the soul. So TY.
CZ 97BD handles the 45 very well. That being said, I would choose the FN over any other 45 handgun.
*shrieks in 1911*
That is a bold statement! I just got a GNX this week. I'll be blown away if it beats CZ.I think they are #1 in all platofms.
A tuned 1911 is hard to beat. I use Wilson 8 round magazines so it's 9 with one in the pipe. I also have 10 round Wilson mags so I have 11 with one in the pipe. Hard to beat 15 +1 from the FN FNX. I just feel more confident with a tuned trigger.
So if I were to get orders to go to some flea bitten country with personal weapons allowed for a US government agency known by 3 letters, I'd grab the FNX without hesitation. If I get orders to whack someone and must be up close and personal, then I'd grab a tuned 1911.
Thank you for revisiting this Gun it’s my favorite I appreciate you Colion
I’m in the market for a .45 this year, and I’m still giving this one a very genuine look because of the good capacity and great feel in the hand. I was actually looking at cheaper firearms at the time but I got to handle one of these one day and was pretty much immediately sold because of how it felt in the hands. Can’t afford it right now but as soon as I get the funds I’m picking one up.

Me too man. This is the year for the FNX.
So did you get it?
Still is the GOAT Gun. No question about it. Literally handles all parts of life except beach carry with trunks or board shorts.
If only they made it in 10mm
@@sofloflow 👏🏾👏🏾🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@sofloflow really no need for 10mm. These have a fully supported chamber and they are well built and designed for suppressor use, you can run pretty warm .45 acp+p loads and with proper brass you can run .45 super loads in them no problem.
@@semajniffirg230 the hottest .45 load still lacks energy when compared to 10mm. 10mm is viable for bear defense, .45 is not in my opinion. Sure, hot .45 is great, but spicy 10mm is even better! You also get a higher capacity with the 10mm. I really don't see why .45 is even still made / sold when 10mm exist.

45 rounds of .45! You had me excited for a minute.
Then I remembered how heavy a box of 45 acp is...
Don’t shoot an intruder, just throw the box at their head
The answer yes. Yes it is still amazing
Got my FNX .45 standard 2 years ago. Shoots great. Single action trigger has some creep but very acceptable so it can be carried and used cocked and locked, Condition 1. This has the highest capacity for a semi auto pistol. It is the perfect SHTF load out with my FN SCAR 17. When it rotates night stand duty, I have a Streamlight TLR-1 1,000 lumen weapon mounted light. A fearsome beast for any home invasion or creepy knock on the door at 2 am.
I miss my FNP 45 GI. Pretty much the same gun minus the tactical sexyness of the FNX 45. It is by far the best shooting, softest recoil, and damn near perfect 45 I've ever owned. The grip ergonomics make it feel like a 9mm, to me. Also, dealing with FN's customer service was a pleasurable experience. Back when I bought mine it came with 2 - 14 round mags and 1 - 15 round mag. The 14s follower was known to snag due to the crimp being slightly off during manufacturing. All you had to do was call and send in the faulty 14s (which FN would send you a call tag for) and a couple days later 3 brand new 15 round mags were delivered at no charge. So then you had 4 - 15 round mags and a huge smile, as those mags were around $50-$60 each. Thank you for reviewing this again. I'm now going to go to have to save up again and grab one as soon as I can. Had to sell it last year after being in a car accident that left me with a broken back and constant pain, but I think buying another FNP 45 will help me cope with the pain. No other 45 has ever put that big of a smile on my face and I need that now more than ever. Thank you again for the awesome video Colion.
Finally got mine last night. Spent today at the range. Wow! Wow! Wow! So impressed with every single aspect of this beautiful piece. My new favorite. Def gonna order the 509 tac now
I have all the HKs, and think the FN is the one I chose for battle, weight , 15 rounds and amazing control equal to the HK45 , capacity being the tie breaker.
Went with the HK45 for the ergonomics and immediately bought 2 13 round mags… Better than 10, not as good as 15.
I’ve always wanted one of those. Maybe it’s time to add it to the collection 🤔

I was on the fence on this one, but went out and bought one right after you put out your initial "BBW" review. 🤣 Definitely did not disappoint...
I bought this gun in black on you recommendation 5 years ago and it is a dream. Probably my best pistol. Thanks again.
Had mine fde tac-45 for about 2yrs. Bought it the same years manufacturerd. '18 Love this firearm. My 5.7 has been sitting since Ive copped this. MASTERPIECE 🗣
I've got the non tac version, still my favorite. 45 and awesome winter carry.
Back in April when gun prices were still crazy (ok more crazy than now), I had this and a Colt 1911 in my hands at the LGS, and ultimately went with the Colt. It's still on my list of must haves, but at the time just couldn't justify paying 1300 bucks for it. Now that prices are starting to slide back down, I may have to revisit it. I will say, the grip is thiccc. FN does a really good job with the texturing and keeping it as slim as possible, but those double stack .45s have to go somewhere and it might not be friendly to those with smaller hands.
I really enjoy his situation awarness and ease around the firearm. This man is a true professional.
Thanks again! Great review
I'm not a big guy, but, I carry my FN FNX pretty comfortably. Naturally my go to for home defense are still a number of semi automatic long guns and pistols. At bedside is the FN and a 7.5 inch AR. And a grab bag with spare magazines for both. Naturally all my home defense weapons have lights. Now then ... My FN shoots WAY better than I do and although I have a variety of pistols to choose from my go to for carry is the FN. it's sort of comforting to know I have 61 rounds (4 mags) of reliable .45 at my disposal. It covers a lot of "what if" situations.
How about the underestimated " what if"?
Buying a paychecks worth of magazines 😆😆

You must be one of those dudes that carry a murse
I've had mine for years. It's been great to me. Thousands of rounds with zero malfunctions. I wish someone would bring out an aftermarket trigger for it though because I only shoot it single action. The single action break is pretty good but I think it would be far more accurate with a straight trigger.
Just bought one. Carried a custom P-14 on duty for nearly 2 decades. Looking forward to the FNX. ❤️🇺🇸
Thanks for the awesome video. Great to take a break from the crazy world around us.
Finally got one after thinking and researching all possible problems as well as potential upgrades. I love this platform, and with a recoil system from DPM, it rivals the 1911 in every aspect except the trigger. 9mm is nice, but nothing beats the satisfaction that .45ACP has out of a proper barrel.
Loved my fnx 45 tactical so much when the 509 tactical came out I had to go buy it's little brother.
Don’t they make the FNX in 9mm?
Your first video inspired me to get this one! Glad to see this new vid!
First pistol I’ve ever bought and a dream buy once I found a decent career was the FNX-45 Tactical. Hands down one of the smoothest pistols I’ve ever shot and with an RMR and X400u I think it’s unbeatable for a home defense pistol setup. That and my body type absolutely swallows this pistol in appendix.

The FNX-45 really does resolve any capacity disadvantages .45ACP has, especially since .45ACP also has a 50% larger surface area when the hollow points flatten out vs. 9mm, meaning .45ACP has a 50% larger permanent wound cavity vs. 9mm.
Para Ordnance did it first.

Having owned fnx45T, Glock 41, and HK45T, I will say all are amazing choices, I found the hk to be outdated, but still shot great and looks the sexiest, the fnx45t performs great however I just never shot amazing with it, and something about the plastic density or the metal composite of the slide just always felt cheap despite its hefty price tag, of the three I keep the 41 with a tlr9 by my bedside. Its not the coolest looking full size 45 but it definitely is the one id put my life on before any other. Feels incredibly solid in the hands, no frills, easy to take apart, accessorize, or tweak, common aftermarket parts, cheap mags, etc. This being said all are great firearms but don't loot the looks of a gun sell you if you are looking for a practical self defense/shtf/duty pistol. A lot of guys these days let the "collectors" side of them get the best of them and end up buying a gun based off its looks or pop culture reference rather than its actual usability in the field. Thanks for reading, godspeed
Thank you for the channel! That looks like a blast to shoot. I need to get my hands on one! Unfortunately in NY I won’t be able to have same options on one.
A friend of mine had one and I shot it as often as he would allow. An amazing handgun to run at the range. A bit big to conceal (though it could be done) but would make a fantastic duty/service pistol to open carry on your hip.
It is possible to carry concealed in fall/winter under an army field jacket or equivalent overcoat. Finding a holster for my standard FNX was difficult, but I had found a kydex Sig 320 holster that fits the FNX almost exactly.

I bought the FNP45 when it came out. Absolutely love it. Wish I had bought this but it was twice the price.
I love my FNX 45 Tactical, I’m not using the red dot on this so that’s a wash. When I compare this to my HK45 I try to favor the FNX because of the 15rds vs 10 for the HK, but try as I might I believe the HK45 is the superior firearm. It’s just a better shooting gun and a better trigger.
Yea I have the same fnx45t and I hav a hk45c. I will say the trigger is smooth on the fn but the hk trigger is better. The fn always seems like a crowd favorite wen I bring it out I guess cuz it has the dot and a light/laser plus there’s something about 15rds of some thick boi 45 that jus makes ya smile lol. I still love my hk tho.
Great video, but for the record Para-Ordnance 1911 LDA was double stack 45! From the late 80’s but Remington bought it and then killed it! 😂

I bought mine ( probably the same time you did ) it is (and will remain) the staple handgun I use-period. It is my primary home defense weapon, just wanna send some rounds down range, carry it in the woods, car, truck, UTV weapon. It is a nail driving, accurate, easy to use weapon. Not sure how much more I can say , but this weapon is ( for me) awesome!

I intend to get one, hard to find right now, I'm a die hard 1911 shooter, although I also enjoy the CZ75 platform.
If you like 1911's then i think you'll love this one! Same grip angle, as long as you can get past the difference in grip width, lol! It's not as bad as it seems at first, once i ran a few 15 rnd mags through it, it actually felt really good in the hand! Still treasure 1911's, but the fnx is my bedside!
My only problem with this handgun is its trigger. Everything else about it is awesome.
I’m looking into a .45 rn and was originally looking at a 1911 but when I got this one into my hands I changed my mind. I still think the 1911 is a fantastic platform but to me personally this one just felt more comfortable in my hands.
I own one - love it. I have 2; 45acp FNX and a Beretta storm. HOWEVER my upper body and arm/wrist strength has diminished these last 70 plus years. I use a sig sauer P226 MK or CZ 07 both 9mm most of the time. good review.
I bought an fnx 45 and converted mine to a tactical for the exception of rmr capability, my favorite gun by far
Tons of features, but between this and the HK45, I choose the HK45 based on ergos. Now if HK would ever release an optics ready HK45T...
👍 I debated between the 2, but ultimately went the other way, the hk's grip was a little thicker, held 1 less round, and cost a few dollars more. No less a masterpiece of engineering though!
Prefer the USP45 all day
having a good gun is a good thing, buy yourself extra MAGS. I over (so far) 27 for just one of my 9mm and 2 drums for my rife, it's easier to slap a mag in then sit there and reload them when you don't have time. No I don't sell MAGS just to let you know.
I agree 100% . I used to carry a smaller pistol daily. No more . Either a Glock model 22 converted to Sig .357 or the Fn FNX .45 . Exception Hot Summer in Gym shorts , Glock 43X time. Thx for a great video. Great Truck or Car magnet under the dash ,
One of my ABSOLUTE favorites. Period.
Spotin' that shirt, Colion. Somebody's more Based and Red Pilled than he's letting on. 😏🔴
Biased?
@@TheBeardandTheBlonde Based.
I guess I'll have to get a 9 mm because that's what everyone uses including the United Nation that way I can just use their ammo when I take them out
Still plenty of .40, .38, & .45. But yeah, if you can find wherever they decide to bury it, or unironically throw overboard as we commit social suicide. The beast system will still be here long after the West. Hell, seems we've been terraforming the whole of the Earth to usher he of many names in.. Its a delicate balance between demoralizing into the ground and nothing to lose though. Good thing is, not very likely the actual military will ever listen to another command again. We can deal with the divinely hires. Hell, they'll deal with themselves ultimately.
@@JackHudler well i guess he got done then xD
@@JackHudler NATO has already been on our soil prior to this shit show, the shame of the world "under the guise of investigating racism." Now we know why. Mop up afterwards. Ladies first! We deserve it if it goes down like the way it looks.
@@JackHudler they don't need one now that they stole the presidency from the legitimate winner but that's another story now we have the planned chaos in Afghanistan as we pull out of the poppy production game that they called a war all these years and now this man controlled and steered hurricane to take people's mind off of all that other stuff oh did I forget to mention covid-19 Dr mengele is Kool-Aid we are at war people this is it yes and you're right I should have said United Nation peacekeepers which should be here any day now to help clean up the aftermath
@@JackHudler yeah our votes are supposed to be counted properly as well and that right there wasn't the case in this circumstance.
Thats a dope set up you got there fr!!
I've got this in FDE with the simple addition of a Rugged Obsidian .45, and it is an absolute tack driver. Plus I don't even need ear pro when I'm at the range.
As a lefty I dont even look at handguns without ambi features
Lefty’s unite we have nothing to lose but our right handed chains.
Growing up only being able to shoot right handed pistols, I’ve gotten so used to righty features I almost prefer them, except on the classic series Sigs, because they clearly hate lefties with their way high up controls. My VP9 with my thumb placement up near the slide stop, I accidentally held it down, and the slide never locked back on empty.
I have one myself, I'd love if they would offer one in 10mm. Just makes sense with this big platform.
I also found 200gr xtp and 185gr loads don't feel sluggish like 230gr loads IMO.
200 grain +P is what I keep in mine on the night stand.
my daily winter carry . i LOVE this gun !
EXCELLENT video. Love the info, love the look of the footage. So good.🇺🇸👌🏻
