That's the dudes that come to my range and see the FN SCAR on the wall and go "hey that's the one on (insert movie/video game reference here)" and think shooting a 308 on a 25 yard indoor range is the shit.....🤦♀️Makes the glass and walls ripple and vibrate. My poor RSOs hate that thing lol
Jamie Yake every time I’m at a range there’s always the one guy who is like 19 years old who claims he’s an experienced shooter, but he only shoots in video games, and then becomes a safety hazard to everyone
I've approached other shooters - to ask for advice - three times. All were glad to help. As a hapless novice I asked a young woman crack shooter next to me to try my new Glock 19, thinking my problems were the gun. She was a Detroit cop. Hit all bullseyes, and then gave me a 3 minute tutorial. Huge immediate improvement.
I tried to do the same thing you did and her 300 pound of muscle boyfriend came and beat the shit out of me. Now im living in their house as a servant and they push me around. What did i do wrong?
@@BaronSaturday66 Thanks! I'm in south king county, so thinking of heading to Tacoma Sportsman Club, which is actually in puyallup. Woodinville is maybe 40 to 45 minutes away from me in light traffic (so, only during the pandemic).
@@rando1365 No way! :) I'm all for protests, but the CHAZ zone has turned into a societal and political shit show. I'm one of the very rare people living here who is both a conservative and also was actually born in this state (less than half the population in WA was actually born here and that is dropping fast). Every day my Wife and I discuss leaving this state, only thing holding us back is that we have close family/friends here.
Need to add the "Gravy SEAL" The guy totally kitted up, shoots constantly, always talking about tactics, but he'd have a heart attack climbing a flight of stairs.
The best compliment of my life was when I took my brother in-law shooting for his first time and walked him thru how to do everything safely, when we went to pay our range fees the owner/operator charged me as a trainer, when I asked him if he made a mistake he was completely confused and legitimately thought I was one telling me he would hire me in a heartbeat if I got my cert
I like to go outdoor range on a rainy day. The only people there are serious shooters. Nice and chill, no one bring an insane caliber gun that blast your ear protection off. Only a small group of dedicated shooter that try to hone in their skills.
Yeah, I'm looking at joining a private range even though it is 50 minutes away. It is outdoor, there are several shooting areas, and everyone who joins is vetted first. The Saturday morning I went for a meet and greet was a decent weather day and there were only a couple shooters at that huge place.
I have an outdoor range only where I live. It's always nice to have it to myself, set up so I can do my regular quals, and to occasionally get stupid with one of my shotguns. (Stupid as in. let's shoot the rifled slug round at random things I'm bringing with me and taking home to throw away).
I like the old guy that comes out dragging a bag of war trophy's he brought back from WW2 with a story to match each one of them. He'll run a few rounds and entertain you with the story of how he got the weapon. Sure you'll burn a hour or two at the range without ever shooting a shot but you'll learn some things along the way.
I like the old guy who shows up with a .357 Magnum revolver, doesn't say anything, and proceeds to put all six rounds in the same hole in the center of the target at 25 yards, cylinder after cylinder after cylinder. Then, he polices his area, packs everything up, and leaves. You just know that guy's a good neighbor.
sadly we are approaching the time when does guys won't be around anymore, they'll be replaced by the guys who tell the stories from when they once talked to those war heroes.
I had a custom made AR. Took it to an outdoor range. Had one lady come up to me and ask if her husband and son could shoot it. She said they were visiting from Canada and wanted to see what the fuss was over the AR. Being a dutiful gun owner, I obliged. They loved it and found out it wasn't as scary as the media makes it out to be. I wish them well.
Now when they go back to their commie-land they'll get to brag about the "illegal" activities they partook in while traveling abroad! Just kidding, but thats a great ambassador move.
I had the Safety Violator to day. He flagged me 3 times and when I called him out on it, he flagged me again. Then he had the balls to say he didn't flag me. He was holding a revolver with his hand over in front of the finger guard, getting burns on his hands. He broke every safety rule, I think we made some new ones today just for him.
I'm becoming the "I genuinely want to know how to shoot type." So a forever student type. I finally get it. I go in for reps, making every shot count. Try to expose myself to firing around other gunfire, not flinching, not blinking, and finally -- making the gun an extension of my being. That last part is the fun part, it creates a real relationship between you and the firearm. All of that is just reps over time.
Same. Can't relate to these. I shoot far out of town in the desert with my brothers, and with other friends who I may be introducing, one at a time, to firearms.
@@adamtheduell unfortunately here in Florida the Republicans are selling out to gun control they are trying to shut down many of the outdoor long range and tactical shooting ranges .and they are trying to make it illegal to shoot out in the sticks ....it sucks
@@adamtheduell it sucks man and also they passed a law where if a family member says your crazy (even if its not true) the cops can confiscate your guns for up to 30 days . its called red flag laws . so a pissed off family member can have your guns taken ....its fucked up man
I'm the "ghost." I come in, talk to nobody except those I have to, shoot my 50 rounds for weekly practice, and the disappear before anyone even notices my presence.
just 50 rounds... in Spain we have very few "shooting ranges" so they are too far away to shoot just 50 rounds... lucky you, I wish we could have more places to shoot
Here in Ohio we have ODNR(Ohio Department of Natural Resources) outdoor gun ranges. The one in Spring Valley Ohio just south of Xenia has been remodeled and is really nice. The Range Safety Officers are actually Ohio Wildlife Officers who are in fact law enforcement officers. Everyone was really nice and the RSOs were to. I think they are open year round, but the range fee is only 5 dollars for the whole day, 25 dollars for a yearly membership(which you can get at any Rural King gun counter) and you have to bring your own ammo and targets. They have pistol, shotgun, rifle, and even an archery range where you can try out your bows and arrows. If you are ever in Ohio come on over and check them out. Really nice people, and a really nice range. Plus, outdoor ranges are more fun and not as loud as an indoor range which I like as well.
I live in Ohio. I'll have to look it up and see how far they are from me. Sounds like great places to go shoot. (Edit) Found two near me. Both are unsupervised ranges. Gonna go check them out once I get a permit from a local place that sells them. Thanks for sharing about this or I probably would have never found this.
I'm the "Loner" This is the type of guy that goes to the range when no one else is there... shoots 1 or 2 boxes... says nothing to no one other than "hey"..
@@thetravelerformallyknowasw7912 I have been shooting for years. It's really not about what people think of me. It scares me to be around several people that I don't know how safe are they with guns
@Kermit Snakmann Mine's in a rolling luggage case. Four thousand rounds is heavy. Aluminum, too, and I couldn't imagine how bad it'd be with steel case. Ô.o
I approach no one at the range. It's like trying to strike up a conversation with the dude next to you while pissing in the urinal....beat it man this here's my therapy.
I feel ya. I'm ok with people talking to me at times, like when I take a historical piece out, but if I just take out a few handguns, or an AR, there's no conversational pieces there... Kick rocks. Lol. And avd400s..... Yes. Pissing in a urinal can be very theroputic, if you do it right. Lol
Im a new shooter and I've only been to the range a few times. It was always my understanding that you just dont approach random people and speak with them while at the stalls. Its hard to hear, and people are working on their own form of training. I've never had anyone approach me at a stall and I didnt know people did that until I saw videos like this. Personally, I wouldnt take it well if someone tapped on my shoulder and tried to strike up a conversation with me while I'm there at a stall. I think it just breaks natural range etiquette.
Shit I couldn’t agree more. People bugging is exactly why my girlfriend doesn’t go to the range as much as she’d like. It’s sad that you can’t go to the range and be left alone
As a single, female, I've learned to go on Monday or Tuesday mornings when the range opens. No one is there so I avoid all the crazy and i actually enjoy shooting in a range by myself with no distractions. Mid week, end of the week and weekends I save for training, coaching and/or classes. That gives me a chance to practice what ive learned on monday and Tuesday by myself without anyone trying to screw up what I've learned and I go back to my instructor and he is impressed that I mastered what he taught me the week before. Happy shooting!!!
A South Dakota 100 meter outdoor range with my son when a couple of tweens showed and started shooting skeet over our line. We packed to leave and only asked them to stop and secure their guns while I recovered our targets. My then 12yo son schooled them. Being cocky they offered a shotgun to my son, he correctly held the pump and dropped his first ever three clay pigeons. The tweens were more impressed and inquisitive when my son told them of their incorrect posture and holding techniques he'd learned from the book "Tap's Tips". Learning is something you should strive to do everyday, I shun the fools that think they know everything. Everything I do and try I'm proud to say; "I am an apprenctice at!". You all are in my prayers Hoka Hey
Jim Califwin yea that one Vietnam vet who owns like 40 guns because they were all cheap back then and he just likes to watch other people shoot and always provides cool stories
That's kinda me, but I'm not a vet. I also snicker a few times at the guys nearby who start to rapid fire after they see my groupings because now they just want to GTFO of the range. Typically the same guy who tells me to get a real gun because the one I have is an old POS.
I’ve found that the “Safety Violator” exist more at the indoor ranges than at the outdoor ranges. When beside people like him, it becomes what I’ve come to call the “shoot and duck” time. You shoot but then have to duck because you realized the novice shooter next to you has placed you at the end of their barreI. I can’t tell you how many times I have been at indoor ranges that I have also become the trainer for those who have NEVER picked up a weapon until that day. It’s easy for me because of my 60+ years of gun experience. Those who run the ranges need to start asking shooters about their shooting experience. If they are not experienced, then off to at least an hour of training they go. Great video as usual, Colion.
I'm the big recoil guy. I like the large caliber magnum guns that make the biggest bang, huge flash, and hurt your hand. My grouping sucks, but I have a gigantic smile on my face.
Colin this is the first time I’ve seen your channel l’m a disabled Veteran l served under Reagan l just wanted to say thank you for everything you do to protect our Constitutional Rights
as a range safety officer I can't tell you how many negligent discharges i have seen and 9 out of 10 times they say my finger was not on the trigger or i thought the safety was on.
You forgot one, the history buff who brings all sorts of historic weapons 1911s and bolt actions and older and basically knows what the first guns to ever come out looked like.
I’m the guy that corrects them on everything they say wrong and tells them to leave me alone and let me shoot lol happens way more often then I care for
@@serafinmagic1634 those are actually pretty cool. Can be loaded with just about anything from ball bearings to stones and nails. If it fits in the muzzle it can shoot it.
You also forgot the guy who goes there with crazy guns and asks everyone else if they want to shoot them😆🤣 they're like polar opposites to the can I shoot it guy. They still make you uncomfortable sometimes but it's better to be asked if you want to shoot their guns than if they can burn all your ammo
Ken James ... my son got married in Austin literally yesterday at Canyonwood Ridge Wedding and Events venue. Trivia......... I got out of the hospital a couple days ago following back surgery, my left leg is mostly paralyzed, I’m fighting 2 types of cancer, and I live in PA, so I did not make the wedding - sadly. But my wonderful wife went and held her cell phone to the microphone so I could toast the bride and groom. My son cried (joy) and so did I. I’m the guy at the range who loves his family sooo much.
I’m the “just came here to shoot leave me alone because ammo is expensive and so is my membership and I got a chance to leave the kids with the wife” personality.
You and me both. My wife and I trade off days at the range so she can get hers in too and I can't wait to build a private range on our property. Funny though that I'm always the ones to take the kids to the range...
I've seen plenty of guys like you and I've noticed one thing they all have in common. When they walk IN to the range, they are standing upright with a slight smile on their face. And then when they leave, they slouch over and have that "back to the ball and chains" look on their face.
@@callumleslie1680 get a licence and buy your own cool guns. I just bought a SIG P320-M17 to add to the collection, haven't picked it up yet but it's going to be awesome.
Last time I was at the range there was a slightly older couple next to me and my grandpa. They noticed that I was struggling with loading bullets on the mag of the glock I was using. The guy offered to let me use his mag loading device and then was talking to my grandpa and I about the guns we were using. We talked about how I didn’t enjoy shooting that glock and they said the ladies gun she was using was perfect for someone like me and told me to try it. I shot a few bullets and liked the gun better. They gave me a list of guns to look at when buying my own and when we left they gave me the ammo loader tool. I felt pretty bad about shooting some of their ammo and offered some in exchange but they said they were happy to get young girls into shooting more and left. Honestly really sweet couple
They are still out there. Thank God they're in the minority. Most ranges today I know of don't have a range master on the lanes. I won't shoot at a range where I'm micro-managed.
You are so right on the second one . I experienced a woman who's gun jammed then proceeded to turn around with the gun ( loaded ) . I very easy turned her around and unjammed it for her . After explaining NOT to ever turn around with a loaded gun . She got pissed off at me , I think because she thought I was belittling her . Don't care it is better them some poor person getting shot .
I had a similar situation years ago when the S&W .380 came out. I was at the gun shop range and a guy who was talking to me earlier about misfire issues on it was walking cross the range with his finger on the trigger while working the slide. I tried to remain calm but lost my shit. When i got him/gun in a safe direction, he set it down. there was a live round in the barrel with a dented primer. Dumb luck but who knows where that round MAY have gone.
i was at the range a few weeks ago and the guy dropped his target and it fell over to my side, he took a minute then asked me if he could go under neath the table and retrieve his target . I nicely let him know ABSOLUTELY NOT as i think sir that might be extremely dangerous as you could get nailed with a ricochet . I was in shock that he even asked. he brought his AR-15 and some nice hand guns to impress the girl he was with but no experienced range shooter would ever think to go underneath INTO the FN Range area to retrieve their target . I was at my local range and was flicking empty casing to the ground and like a idiot flicked my empty magazine into the range shooting area. It was a full day that day and I told the range guys but we agreed it was way to busy and that theyll retrieve at the end of the day ( theyre trust worthy ) and thats what we did. Didn’t want to do a seize fire and fuck up everyones elses range day cause I’m a moron. It was a HK Mag too those fuckers aint cheap either . I respect everyone else at the range , but hate shooting next to newbies .
Interestingly, people who play shooters avidly tend to have a better aim then the general populace, excluding of course those who are trained in firearms.
You forgot the "Professional" shooter. I am not talking shooting competitors but the cops and soldiers/servicemen who learned shooting (or refined their shooting) in the military or law enforcement and go to the range to practice more and enjoy shooting in a non-work environment. These guys are usually, polite, focused and helpful if asked for advice.
You have to add “The Gamer” - the young guy who has built their dream AR carbine with infrared and visible lasers, 1500 lumen light, flip away magnifier for their Eotech, bipod, forward grip, multi color cerakote and laser engravings to only spend their time hammering away at 5 to 10 yards usually dressed like the younger relative of the poser.
I am the 70 year old navy shooting team guy with the old M1 Garand with the scout scope. bi pod and high tec muzzle brake that rings the 12 inch gong plate 98%+ of the time at 600 yards. When the AR guys can not hit it 50% of the time. with the muzzle brake the AR guys know not to setup right next to me.
If I go to the outdoor range, I'm Mr. Rapid Fire because there usually isn't anyone else there. If I go to an indoor range, I mind my own business, take my time, and quietly pack up and leave when I'm done. If I see someone with a gun I'm interested in, I might politely ask about it, but never ask to shoot it or even hold it, and keep the conversation as short as possible. Ranges aren't a place to have a cavalier attitude about *anything*.
I’m usually the same way. I don’t feel comfortable asking to shoot peoples guns, and I will admit a large part of it is my introverted personality, but I was at the range a while back and the dude in the lane next to me had an M1 Garand. That’s the only exception I ever made. I had to ask, I just had to, I might not ever come across one of those again. The second thing I would never do is fire a full mag, or in this case, a clip. I asked for permission to do this because not only can I not pass up the chance to shoot one of these rifles, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to get that sexy ping on the last shot. I even offered to pay the guy a bit for the eight rounds of 30-06 which he adamantly refused. Overall, it was a great experience, and he was very generous, and I, a grown man was practically suppressing giggles and grinning ear to ear like I was five years old and it was Christmas morning
@@junkyardwillie8320 That's AWESOME! I probably would have quietly bought a box of .30-06 and brought it back into him after, just as payment for the experience. Lucky!

Well some of us are just patriotic Czechs/Slovaks.. also the feel of nationalism when I see someone with a grand power pistol (though that doesnt happen nearly as often as I would like, the damn thing has a rotating barrel its pretty epic lul)
My son turns 15 tomorrow 12/9...Im a USAF SP veteran and I started working with my son on firearms training when he was just 3. I started with taking the mystery out of guns, I focused on safety, safety and yes MORE safety. How serious of an instrument a firearm is. He learned how to take them apart, clean, oil and assemble. We worked with snap-caps and troubleshooting every possible failure situation with them. Then at about age 5-6 we worked with a Co2 pellet firearm...and yes we treated it just like a traditional firearm that fired actual rounds. At 7 he finally made it to the range for live fire for the first time with the custom Ruger 10/22 we started building a couple of years before. Fast forward eight more years and he is rock solid, focused and safety aware..I often get complements at the range on how he acts. He is proficient in many platforms we own and he helped me train his little sister who is 2 years younger when she showed interest in the sport. He was even man-enough to admit that she is more of a 'natural' shooter than he is [was at the same age]. That shows humility that a lot of us adults dont have. I'm proud of him and despite being in his teen years we are still close; though I currently only get one-word answers out of him which is odd b/c just a few years ago this kid would talk your ear off...
@@BerettaM9USAF Oh thats awasome. Don't worry, he'll change. Its just matter of 2-3 years. I was the same too. More worried about chasing skirts than talking to my parents. But it'll sattle down.

I'm the type that lives in AZ and I do my training out in the desert all year round, I don't go to the range. Ammo is expensive, I want every shot to count, and the only interruption I want is the occasional desert racer going by or the occasional trooper chopper coming by making sure I'm training and not in an actual life and death situation. Yes, once they circled real low, cause I was training using cover and popping out plinking multiple targets . A quick low circle around to scope out the situation, a polite wave, a d on their merry way they went.
as a gamer this infuriates me cause i know people that play games and are like "yeah guns are piss easy" ask them if they have ever shot and are like " naaaah no need i play csgo" fucking tools
I got a story for you guys: I was at the range and was practicing quick mag changes. For this exercise, I only load 3-6 rounds in each of my 4 mags, and I will, at times, load a randomly empty casing to practice jams. I then put the mags (G19) behind my back and mix them up. I put the extra mags in various places, such as my mag holsters and front pocket, in the ready position. So I'm shooting and dropping mags on the floor when the SRO comes up, looks at me and said, "Oh! It's you! How's the shooting?" I said, "Good, I'm just practicing quick mag changes." He looks at me and says, "I figured, but another shooter complained because he said you were dropping magazines on the floor. I KNOW you're a safe shooter, so no worries." LMAO!!!!!
You left out the completely capable and focused “just want to stay sharp” guy who only shoots 100rounds at a time pausing between every 5 rounds to analyze his groupings. In and out in 40 minutes. No chit chat, no showing off and no apologies for what they’re shooting.
Same here, I don't shoot for competitive sport or fun or therapy to clear my head. I have a motorcycle for fun ;) I try to hit the range once or twice a month to keep my skills up, nothing more. It's business, not pleasure. I came to put in work, not f around or chat people up. I carry everyday and I take it as a serious responsibility.
What type of personality am I? Well, I’m one of those certified RSO’s mentioned at the beginning. If I’m not working on shot groups, stance, holster draws, etc, I’m watching everyone. Asking questions, making light, short conversation and just helping everyone have an enjoyable safe experience. I’m not there to teach or coach, just keep things running smoothly and safe.
I was into guns from age 9-22 in large part because of my outdoor, camping, hunting & shooting experience with my dad. After my dad died, all of the things I enjoyed just seemed to remind me of what I lost, so I kept my guns locked up & now that my daughter is old enough & has taken an interest in guns & self defense; I figure it’s time to open the safe & forge new memories with my daughter. I don’t mind being friendly with people at the gun range, we’re birds of a feather with a common interest… but at some point it’s like trying get in a solid workout at the gym with some tool yapping at you during your set. What type am I? Hell, I don’t know 😎
So when your dad died you did too. You chose to focus on what you lost and not what you GAINED from having those experiences with him. All the fun things you missed out on because you were throwing a pity party for yourself. Hopefully your daughter will be smarter about it.
you are the wise old mentor type whomis passing on generational skills taught by you sage grandfather to your honored father to you and then now you to your daughter.
@@flintymcduff5417 I'm really glad there's always someone in the comments that looks at a nice story of someone who's getting back into something they love and butt into it whilst being a total asshole about it.
My dad was a lifetime military man and when he retired we would shoot league at our local indoor range. When I lost him back in 2016 I couldn’t bring myself to continue. It wasn’t until my daughter turned 21 that I got back into shooting. She got her CCL and we now shoot twice a week. I know dad is smiling down.
You forgot the “Casual Enthusiast Guy” The guy who goes to the range every once in a while to practice/blow off some steam. The Casual Enthusiast Guy may sometimes come across as some of the 7 types you named (primarily the hipster or the CISIG), but is normally either much more knowledgeable or much more humble. The CEG is a normal human who just likes guns, and likes shooting. He likes ranges and the people who frequent them. He is usually knowledgeable about the guns he owns, and is willing to learn more about the guns he is unfamiliar with. He is normally an average to above average shooter, yet is strangely casual about the whole deal. You can safely ask them if they want to shoot your gun and they’ll almost always either ask you how many rounds they can shoot, and/or offer a mag of theirs in return. The CEG is cool. Everyone needs to be more like the Casual Enthusiast Guy.
That’s what most of the people are like at the range I go to, me included. Sometimes we trade guns around, and no one ever comes out losing ammo or time putting rounds down range. I’ve never suggested a video topic before but one on Range Officer personality’s would be cool, having said that I know how important they are and how it can be a tough job.
I think i may fall into this group, sans average to above average skill... I suck, i have maybe one or two good groupings per visit then my recoil anticipating flinch kicks in and i cant seem to cure it
Andrew Greenewald I would say I fall into this personality except I don’t really talk to anybody when I’m there unless I’m with somebody then I talk to them and I would also never ask to shoot another persons gun. I also have the desire to be more than just an enthusiast and shoot like once a week but I don’t have the dough to do that. I would also love to take some tactical and or training classes but again don’t have the money for that. I guess I’m the Casual enthusiast guy that wants to be more.
I've worked at Range USA for about 4 months. I have seen every single one of these in the first week, being an RSO for a company that encourages new firearm users to go to a range without any sort of educations besides a waiver and safety instructions on the wall. By the time they read that, they already committed a violation that could've killed me or someone else
The “wifey” made me laugh and think of the very experienced female officers and soldiers I know who (at least pre-COVID) also sometimes do, “range time then brunch” on the weekends.
This is hilariously accurate. The best "wifey" I saw was a woman about seventy dressed like my grandmother who had a .22 Ruger Mark 3. Very average looking woman, but I swear to god she could have hit a mosquito in flight with that thing. Someday I hope to be as awesome as you, frumpy old lady.
met one of those. i have these electronic earphones that extra sensitive and it picked up the guy next to my lane whispering "you like that huh, take this, you like that??" over and over again that it made me uncomfortable i had to move lanes. i did like his pistol though, it look like a custom bear revolver with cuts in barrel. he showed it off alittle too much before shooting
You’ve inspired me to do something. I’m going to go to a range, take forever to get set up and ready to go, spend several minutes aiming at the target, then take one shot and go home. Maybe with a handgun.
There’s also the ear buster. We once went to the shooting range and we all stopped to the sound of very loud boom coming from a guy shooting a long barreled .357. I thought it was a 50 cal he was shooting. When we got used to his shooting noise, he broke the noise barrier yet again by starting to fire out of what appears to be an elephant gun riffle.
Sure, the gym is full of obnoxious people, too, but I still like hanging out there - somehow they are one level below of these Range guys. Also, you don't risk being killed there
You forgot to mention the "Range Nazi"; who's only mission is to point identify and point out every measly safety issue or shooting form flaw that he sees.
I like to call those range tyrants. They often times end up being the ass holes who work there. They enforce arbitrary "rules" like no rapid firing even though there is no safety concern with shooting fast. If professionals can do it so can enthusiasts.
@@kyleparker5564 MR RAPID FIRE WE FOUND YOU. lol There is a VERY GOOD REASON FOR NO RAPID FIRE. YOU SAID THERE IS NO SAFTY CONCERN WELL THERE IS. Your own. If you fire too quickly youll never a hear a squib and a squib can destroy the gun and severely injure and or even kill you much less someone else when the gun fragments. If you are pulling the trigger so quickly you cant even tell the differences in the sound of a shot youre a danger. Thats why there are public ranges and tactical ranges and thats why on Tactical ranges they dont just allow any old gun or ammo much less holster. They know they are going to be shooting fast and accidents can occur so the standards are different. They know the Squib isnt common sure however you are ONE SHOOTER... They have hundreds of people come in and so the chance of a squib dramatically increases on their range. They do not want to be sued or held liable for allowing people to rapidly fire their pistol and potentially cause severe harm or death that is going to be ON THE NEWS if someone dies and reflect BADLY on the range and the shooting community in general. Consider if you owned your own range and had incidents occur at it what your stance would be if you were sued by the family of the injured or dead man for allowing unsafe rapid firing increasing chances of incidence? Not only this but its a public range people are trying to learn... They dont want have to listen to someone act like they are in a gun fight right next to them while they are just trying to understand the basics. If you want to rapid fire and you arent worried about safety or how others feel about it by all means shoot on your own land or a place that allows is my advice. Now do you get it? Hope that puts it into perspective.
I'm the new guy who wants to get it right. I've owned my gun for about three weeks, and held my range membership for two. My NRA membership card has yet to arrive. My grouping -- indeed, my hit-to-miss ratio overall -- is best not spoken of right now. But I'm practicing, and I am showing improvement.

Well that one’s just kind of boring got to keep the views up.
This is why I like the range I go to. It's an outdoor range, and everyone pretty much keeps to themselves and is polite. Never had one issue.
Those guys are awesome I like meeting them...
I like that guy - hopefully, he becomes the guy I go get a beer with after the range
Love those guys.

Plus, outdoor ranges are more fun and not as loud as an indoor range which I like as well.

i was at the range a few weeks ago and the guy dropped his target and it fell over to my side, he took a minute then asked me if he could go under neath the table and retrieve his target .

You have to add “The Gamer” - the young guy who has built their dream AR carbine with infrared and visible lasers, 1500 lumen light, flip away magnifier for their Eotech, bipod, forward grip, multi color cerakote and laser engravings to only spend their time hammering away at 5 to 10 yards usually dressed like the younger relative of the poser.
thats like a cheap car with expensive rims and audio system, and the windows are down because they can't afford to have the a/c fixed.

Lucky!

The veteran dad bringing his 15 year old son and constantly lecturing him about safety
That's my dad and I
Safety is improtant, its good to get it stuck into you
My son turns 15 tomorrow 12/9...Im a USAF SP veteran and I started working with my son on firearms training when he was just 3.

It's you! How's the shooting?"
I said, "Good, I'm just practicing quick mag changes."
He looks at me and says, "I figured, but another shooter complained because he said you were dropping magazines on the floor. I KNOW you're a safe shooter, so no worries."

Same here, I don't shoot for competitive sport or fun or therapy to clear my head. I have a motorcycle for fun ;) I try to hit the range once or twice a month to keep my skills up, nothing more.
Hell, I don’t know 😎
good to hear!
So when your dad died you did too. You chose to focus on what you lost and not what you GAINED from having those experiences with him. All the fun things you missed out on because you were throwing a pity party for yourself. Hopefully your daughter will be smarter about it.

You forgot the “Casual Enthusiast Guy”
The guy who goes to the range every once in a while to practice/blow off some steam.
Everyone needs to be more like the Casual Enthusiast Guy.
thats me too
That's a good one, and sounds familiar.
“His groupings look like the before picture of a proactive commercial” IM DEAD 🤣🤣🤣

Wifey is the aunt of the Colonel's Daughter. At family get togethers, these two show the men how it is done.

I shut those mutherfuckers/fatherfuckers down REEEEEAL quick! Nobody Alpha-Dogs me when I am tending to my own business...
