This is really one of the few good videos on the topic, so thank you. I keep suffering from ganglions cyst on and off, probably due to certain yoga postures. They're incredibly painful; icing and painkillers seems to take care of it in 2-3 days. I'm going to work on refraining from doing those postures from now on and also massage my wrists and be more mindful of the weak joints. Thank you again!

Believe it or not Frankincence essential oil helps tremendously. 2 drops on the skin covering the cyst. I use a small amount of coconut or other oil first (just bc I'm used to diluting my essential oils), then drops of the frankincense oil on top. Gently massage it in. Takes away the pain AND reduces size quickly.

I have had 2 ganglion cysts on the back of both my wrists for over 4 years now, due to constant typing and bad wrist placement near the keyboard, I had the one on my right aspirated once and it went away, though the bump remained, there's no longer any pain. But the one of the left, though used less compared to the right hand, keeps coming back, even though I had them aspirated twice. But since i started using epsom salt soaks, and also changed the way I kept my wrist while typing, the pain has gone down substantially. Also getting the muscles that lead up to the wrist (in case of wrist ganglion) stronger through controlled exercise is the only natural non gross remedy. Good luck to everyone trying to fix this weird problem. Thank you jamie, this video seems to be more of a solution than most of them out there.

Thanks for your video. My doctor in the UK diagnosed pain in my thumb joint as an internal ganglion. The British national health system refused to help in any way (cost!). I also used to have my arms ‘go to sleep’ when riding my motorcycle. I was checked for carpal tunnel syndrome but the tests were negative. I believe that the 2 issues are connected. I have retired to live in Bangkok, Thailand with my Thai family. I no longer ride a motorcycle, so my arms going to sleep aren’t an issue anymore. The ganglion is another matter, usually my thumb just aches but I have to be careful not to do anything with my thumb that would move the ganglion into the joint, otherwise the pain is intense. Due to covid massage parlours, here are closed so until they re-open I will be careful.

I had something like that on my right foot long time ago but it just disappeared itself. About 2 months now, similar thing on my right foot but got bigger in size from last time, like the size of a wall nut.
Went to my GP last week n he told me that, it will be done under general anaesthetic. O mg, i got chickened out big time. Today i had my accupuncture treatment n hopefully it works.

This is a great video. I had one in the same spot as you and something that helps me a lot is whenever any pain or swell comes on from activity I will just hold my wrist up above my heart for 15-20 minutes to get as much blood/fluid out of my arm and wrist as possible and that has made the pain instantly stop and the swelling go away for me. My cyst has been gone for over a month since the last time I did that.

I had one on my wrist - locked myself out of my house one day, had to climb in the window - when I pushed myself up through the window...POP - my cyst was gone. A little pain, but it left. I was working in a "typing pool" at the time - yes, it was the 80's , so I figured it was from the typing. I have a very small one there today, but doesn't bother me.

Great video! This has kind of confirmed what I suspected. A year ago I switched from using a standard computer mouse to a rollerball mouse, with my forearm and wrist resting on a hard table top and my hand cranked up and on to the mouse. Over time I noticed some irritation to my wrist and tightness over the top of my hand, I recently noticed a lump which at times is barely noticable and quite prominant at times of general activity. It's affecting the nerve in my wrist now to a point it's really painful using that hand and a light discomfort pain while at rest.

Can you get a Ganglion Cyst from a blow rather than activity?
I know you're not a doctor, but I just bumped the inside of my wrist while vacuuming and noticed a few minutes later that a blue swollen area developed in that spot. It's not "painful" as much as uncomfortable. It feels swollen.
I'm not overly concerned as I recall this has happened before and usually cleared up on its own. But this time the blue area is pronounced and more uncomfortable than usual so I'm wondering if it could be a GC or something else.
So, even though I bumped it rather than it developing from a repetitive action, could it still be a Ganglion Cyst?

This video was helpful, I've never had this
ailment, but I have one brachioradialus
(forearm) that gives me fits during short
bursts of exercise. No problems after I
give it a stretch and a rest, but it prevents
me from longer workouts with that arm.
Nunchucks for example, my right arm can
spin all day, but the left arm can only go a
minute or so, then needs rest, I'm thinking that
I need to try to fix this issue.
If I pick up a hammer and hammer a lot, eventually
I can duplicate the pain in the right arm , but of
course the left arm will have that pain after a much
shorter period of time. Brachioradialus is the larger
group of muscles on the top inner area of the forearm.
    ===
Update: 20 minutes later; I tried to figure out what
muscles might be opposing like Jamie mentioned,
what I may have discovered is that the standard
forward spin on a nunchuck would produce the
pain in a short time, but the underhand spin
seemed to be pretty much problem free, so I did
a hundred of those underhands to try and balance
the strength of those opposing muscles. I also
    tried some light weight curls.
I have been stretching that Brachioradialus for a week
or so, cause someone else said that would help,
I found that it didn't seem to help me, but this method
I learned from this video to find the opposing movement
and strengthening that area might help, I think this might
    be the case for me.
This forearm problem that I'm talking about started about
6 months ago, during many kinds of activities, even wringing
out a washrag , or using a towel to dry off, simple lightweight
activities, but just in that one arm, and odd issue I think, but there
has never been any pain at all , so long as I'm not using the arm,
    lol.

For those who have a bump on the back of the wrist, you may try the table edge method. First close the hand into a tight fist, bend the wrist to bulge the bump out, and quickly hit the bump against the table's edge several times until the bump is flatten or is no longer there. It is like doing kung-fu against the table's edge, but do not do it too hard. Good luck and I hope it will work for you.

  • @georganderson4450
    @georganderson4450 4 года назад +13

    Quick Recap:
    1) Find the activity which was responsible for the problem and eliminate it.
    2) Work on your trigger points (with Stick, massage, acupuncture)
    3) Stregthen the antagonists
    4) Find a therapist who is workting with you on your body and posture (rolfing)
I consider the latter good advice and would like to add that problems like this cannot be solved "locally". Just working on your forearm won't help. Who of you guys also has problems with golfers elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome or the shoulder? Hot canditates for these symptoms are subluxations of the cervical spine (especially, if problems are on both sides) or the shoulder girdle. Maybe a specialist with an holistic approach (a rolfer or chiro practitioner) could help.

Took two months off because of moving and getting settled in and woke up one day with this disgusting lump. Turns out its a volar ganglion cyst. I use my wrist a lot at work as I operate machinery that requires me to use a motorcycle type of throttle, so it might be that but I've been doing this for years also. I liked your idea about posture, it's insightful. I use good form at the gym and tend to sit up straight (no slouching etc) but I have had lower back pain for years, which brings me back to your posture and fascial tissue point. It seems to make sense, so after watching this I'm going to look into massage therapists and chiropractors because I really don't want to go under the knife lol thank you

It's been a long time since you commented but maybe my reply will help others...I'd say based on the video that when you trained at the gym some of your exercises helped you prevent that cyst (strengthening the antagonist muscles) likely caused by your job.

The method I did was using a book at 12 or 13 one of my friends in the group home i lived in slammed it on my hand. It never came back and those medical doctors always just want money and don't want you to figure it out on your own. I will always try and use remedies.

I began to notice a couple years after I fractured my right hand/Wrist that I get Ganglion Cysts that occur in the exact same spot. They form usually when I apply excess pressure to my wrist doing things like Bench Pressing/Push-ups, sleep with my hand in the wrong angle or when punching a boxing bag. It sucks but by the time I am able to get an orthopedic to check it out... the cyst calms and disappears. Smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

Can sleep positions cause this as well? I’m for the most part a stomach sleeper, which means I’ll more often times than not, have my hands under the pillow. However a few times when I’ve woken up, I would awaken to find I was sleeping on my wrist all crazy for who knows how long. A few mornings my wrists would be numb, I would shake it off and go about my day but never made the possible connection until now. Also, there’s not too much info to back me up on this, so I’m not sure.

Thanks for this video. I'll give some of this a shot. I have a (fortunately non-painful) one on the back of my (dominant hand) wrist. I draw and paint for a "living", and for fun, so I am guessing that is at least part of it. I guess this would be similar to using a mouse a lot--- the extensor muscles of the forearm? Or maybe the ones that cause the fingers to grip. Both?
For those who seem to be confused about what his advice is, let me try to summarize and restate it. (Jamie, you tell me if I am wrong on any of this.):
Step 1: Figure out what the "offending activity" is.... The activity that is likely causing the cyst (something you do repetitively/frequently/for long periods of time, that puts sustained tension on the joint in question), and change it (if you can).
Step 2: Release the trigger points (eg: apply massage pressure on the tight muscle spots caused by the "offending activity", to loosen them up.... or have a professional address these.)
Step 3: Strengthen the "antagonistic" muscles. (that is, the muscles that provide the opposite tension that the muscles involved in the "offending activity" produce)
Step 4: go to professional rolfer (I have never heard of this, but I'll look into it.)

Today's Friday, Wednesday I had mine drained. 18 months earlier I had it lanced but it came back quickly. (Volar, renal ganglion cyst) Sports medicine used an ultrasound this time, had 2 more pools of fluid below, so with the ultrasound were able to suck it all out, then put some anti inflation something in. Hopefully it is done. Just below the thumb did go numb, tingly for a day, but got better. I've been typing for a living since 1985, crochet a lot, make jewelry, do calligraphy...

Hi Jamie, I've been told my my GP that I have a ganglion cyst; it occurred after just resting my palm on my chin; its just underneath the third finger on the palm. Doing manual work, its not something I can avoid putting pressure on. Indeed it affects everyday activities too. Could you advise or direct me to pertinent information? Hope you can help.

I just laid my hand down on a cushion and put significant pressure on the cyst with the thumb from my other hand; seems to have had some effect; will wait till the slight swelling has subsided before coming to a conclusion. The location indicates a flexor tendon sheath cyst.

I got it two years ago by wearing a gold bracelet during a job at Little Caesar’s and I think doing the dishes by hand there started it. But one day I was taking out a sheet of dough and this girl that worked there had an aluminum sheet behind me and i hit my elbow there really hard and it hurt bad 😭. The next day I noticed the ganglion cyst on that same arm but on my wrist. Keeps coming back and it’s usually accompanied with pain. It’s pressing the nerve there.

Basically my wrists have been hurting for 3 years now and there was nothing like any bumps or anything and I've learnt to live with it. I thought it was a growth problem and I had blood tests ect and the doctor agreed and told me to wait for a few more months. And so I couldn't wait any longer. The pain is in both of my wrists in the exact same place and the pain has become unbareable so I went to a hospital and I had both of my wrists X-Rayed and it wasn't a bone problem and so after that i have just had an MRI and I went to the hospital Yesturday for my results and I found out that that I have Ganglion Cysts in both of my wrists but there arnt any lumps on the top of underneath and on the MRI scan the cysts show up right in the centre of my hands so I can't pop it or anything and I have to go for a injection in 2 months where I'll have to be asleep because they have to dig down then surgery!!! Im so scared!!! Hehe anyways I thought I should share with you 😂😂 subscribe 😂✌️

hope you have found some resolve and pain relief thru surgery. If not, there are a few videos on here that discuss hot compress/anti-inflammatory treatments, such as pills, diet, essential oils, Epsom salts, etc. And, some ppl have found long-term resolve with this. Just FYI in case of a return, which has been said chances are high with aspiration or surgery. I have just detected this problem, popped up 3 days ago, and looking for info. Going to see the doc tomorrow for definite diagnosis.

Mine was through push-ups and forearm exercises holding a barbell over a bench in both flexion and extension. Either from overuse or my wrists/forearms not being strong enough. It’s been with me for probably 6 years now. Flares up so easy and takes so long to heal. Have to stop exercising completely because it screws with everything. It’s started to reduce in size now, I took a hiatus from working out for 2 years now and it’s just started to flare up again. Haven’t tried massaging the muscles in my wrist though, afraid of surgery because of the recovery time and the possibility of growing back. Need to see a professional though, have tried 2 physio’s in the past and they didn’t diagnose it properly before the cyst had visibly formed

I got mine 7 years ago, there were many factors to trigger it, alot of bench press, punching the bag without gloves(i knew being retarded is not beneficial but the curiosity and ignorance pushed me to find out ), alot of pushups and hand writing at that time. At first it was huge got it over night, no pain at all no mobility problems for a month. During a chest workout I felt a crack and it dissapeared completely. Only after 8 months I got it back, pretty small but hurtful as f*ck, that i could barely swipe my a55. Got some physiotherapy not helped to much it kind of healed on its own, I still have it but is small. 2018-2019 it came back a few times, after that until 2022 it never cause me any big issues just small discomfort wich usually disappeared after a day. The pattern i see, mine comes back after a period of pause from gym or any other activities that can trigger it , oddly. Also diet influence it alot, if i go with an inflammatory diet for a medium or long term, it gets back also other injuries as well. The way i deal with it, wrist bandages on gym or other activities that puts pressure on wrists, fix diet, if sore give it the time it needs to recover - that s something i was stubborn about in the past and man, the pain can be a hell, using pushup bars, focus on keeping wrist in a neutral position, use inflamatory gel, and get a new skill and learn to beat ur meat with the other hand, use supplements like multivitamins, msm, glucosamine chondroitin, collagen, this helped me alot, when i used them regullary, i barely got issues as long as i did not put preasure on wrist. Also a very important factor, training ur forearms in a way that u don t put preasure on wrist helps alot to strenght ur wrist. If u got any trigger factors like mine, let me kn if u'd like , i'm very curios.
