I started the Fly Lady in February, including zone cleaning. So I’m in month 2 currently and can honestly tell you that it’s WAY easier the second time around. Keep up the great work, your house looks beautiful!

Shannon, you are helping me so much. I resonated with everything you said, and found this video really motivating and a great explanation of FlyLady, which has been overwhelming for me to follow in the past. Thank you so much! You are a bright shiny star here in the RUclips world. Hope to see your channel continue to grow!

Great job, I am not a subscriber but I check-in from time to time.
You mentioned people gave good suggestions so I hope you don’t mind me adding one or two. For your rest days and or any days maybe sort your towels and beddings in a separate bin and have your gals (and son when he is a little older) do that laundry once or twice a week. For folding the sheets my siblings and I used to play a game called “patty cake” and that is how my mum taught us to fold sheets and large items until we could do it on our own. With time hopefully they will learn to do their own laundry also. And for maintaining motivation, the second suggestion is a check list or calendar “in the laundry room” for tracking the days they complete the sheets and towels including folding and maybe a reward for each month they actually complete the laundry and folding. In the meantime We are all Cheering you on, Take as many rest days as you need and as time goes on hopefully you all will find that balance that works for your family! Be Well.

I love the flylady!! She used to be my inspiration and I was always so happy when I was flying. Now I am disabled and can no longer do cleaning. My husband does the best he can but my house definitely suffers.
I’m wondering if you have autoimmune diseases? I heard you talk about spoons. I have polymyositis (muscle disease) along with other diseases and health complications. I definitely understand and live the spoon theory.

Love your video. As for the bathroom use a small basket for tp and keep the sink. For the walls I would do a pattern on one or two walls but in the same color as the rest of the bathroom just way higher shine to it.

Kathy Roberts the Tidy Tutor is something I did well when I was working it. She is based off of sidetracked home executives just like fly lady is so there's a lot of similarities/ cross over. She's a lot of great videos on RUclips You might find value in I found her years ago on my initial stage of trying to get my life together Life kind of got in the way so I personally got off track but her system did work for me. I have family that's just for me is whenever I kind of cut and paste things together because there's certain things example shining my sink like to fly lady has that just never clicked and I think it's important to be flexible and do what works for you and your family personally. There's nothing wrong cutting and pasting together a routine zone system or otherwise that such you the best Don't ever be afraid to do something differently. 😊

I think I'm going to do what you're doing and just do like an hour of zone cleaning when my body is feeling up to it instead of trying to do 15 minutes every day. I'm the same way where some days are just harder than others. Thanks for the video.

As a newly married wife trying to take care of my first apartment I started with flylady but quickly modified it once I got daily routines down. You'll get there eventually. Fortunately I didn't have a lot of stuff then because we had no money and I moved countries when I got married. The decluttering is the key to making it easy to stay on top of daily routines and zones.

I’ve done FlyLady for years and although I don’t do all her components, the morning and evening routines are ingrained and happen without thought. My house can be crazy but the essential things happen..bathrooms clean, laundry, dishes, bed made. This was motivational in the zone cleaning component. BTW, I love how you’ve decorated your little laundry area with black and white accents.

Great video- I started by watching Cass’s channel “clutterbug” to find my organization style. I also had the rest of my family take her clutter bug test just so I knew how/why they kept their spaces in the home the way they did. Thru Cass (author of clutterbug) I was introduced to Dana K White’s channel “A Slob Comes Clean”. Her container method of keeping/organizing items really helped my teenager understand we only have so much room in our home. LOL Then I began watching Dawn’s channel “The Minimal Mom”. She is great also but I know I will never be a minimalist.

I just discovered your channel and am definitely subscribing! I have been on an off FlyLady for years!! From living in a 1 floor house with 2 daughters in public school then highschool. Then a 2 bedroom apartment to a one bedroom apartment with just my husband. I worked full time during all these years and we were involved in sports so needless to say I failed at Fly Lady.
Then we moved in with my daughter, her husband and 5 kids (teenagers)
My husband was suffering from Alzheimer's so I spent the majority of my time keeping up with him.
He was hospitalised and then was moved into a continuous care facility and I moved into an apartment not far away. He passed away 2 months later and it has been almost 6 years that I have lived on my own in a 2 bedroom apartment. Now I have moderate to severe osteoarthritis in both knees, left hip and right hand! My apartment looks like a hoarders haven but it isn't! Just needed that push and a reminder that FlyLady times and zones and can be adjusted to work for my capabilities and health issues!!
You just brightened my day! Thank you!😉

I finally found a system that worked for me and I've been doing it for over 5 years. Hi, I'm new to your channel and I just love you and your personality. You're so relatable and easy to watch. I'm finishing up my last parts of dealing with my double mastectomy so I'm getting back into my routine and rhythm of life. Breast cancer sucks but I'm here and so, so thankful. I LOVE to clean and organize, your home is like a dream to me. It's just so relaxing and calming for me to clean. I listen to my music and clean for hours and hours. I have just always loved to clean, I do my sister's house for her too. I'm weird lol. I also love to do yard work! I like to mow, plant my flowers just anything outside. Landscaping is so much fun, I like to get creative with my plants and flowers. So, now I'm going to binge watch your other videos lol. So happy I found your channel, your just what I needed thank you. And...I'm in Texas too, I live in Lewisville. The weather has been so weird but it's Texas lol.

Hi Shannon! I just finished watching your Q&A video. You have no idea how much you have helped droves of us who struggle everyday. You are such a blessing! I have chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. This year has been especially tough because I’ve been forced to stay in bed most of this year suffering from extreme exhaustion. I still have Christmas up and haven’t been able to clean house since Christmas Eve. 🤦‍♀️ I’ve never celebrated St Patty’s Day with Santa Claus but here goes! 😂 You talked in the video about your friend who you asked to help clean your home who hurt you so terribly. It broke my heart. Friends are there to lift us up and provide love and support. Please know this. Her response was a direct reflection of her-not you. Something had to be going on with her (or sadly, lacking within her) because her response makes zero sense. You are such a lovely person, inside and out, and you did not deserve being treated that way. Not by her, not by anyone. You are a rock star to me and I’m sure tons of others! I cannot thank you enough for your channel. I pray God will continue to give you the energy, time and strength you need to keep going-in life and on RUclips!! ❤️

For folks not yet up to zone cleaning: here's one new habit for everyone in house to adopt: See something on the floor? Pick it up! Learned this from my ol Nana. She would even pick up stray threads from the carpet as she spent time in a room. Keeps you physically active, incrementally keeps space at "tidy enough" between weekly reset/monthly zone clean.

I’ve been trying to implement FlyLady. I definitely got a lot of help watching Steph the Secret Slob and Diane in Denmark. Thanks for sharing. 😁
Edited to add: I also enjoy your channel and That Awkward Mom.

Omg... my kids were the same years apart... now they are 19,18, and 16.... it was ROUGH.... Of course it's soo rewarding however, it was so so hard!!! Just do what u can... I'm very OCD, however I had to learn to relax... snuggle ur newborn as much as u can... of course the other children as well.... u know how it is tho... the 2 and 3 year old wld rather run around and be silly!!!

I was so happy to see you asked your beautiful children help. I raised 4 children, we all worked together to make our home and yard organized. We lived in New England so we had to rake the leaves in Autumn everyone had a rake and we had a good time outside working together. The children are grownup now and love thier working lives.

I like the FlyLady “idea”. I watch The Secret Slob and Diane In Denmark who both have their version of FlyLady. I have a small house and only 2 people living in it, so I have assigned a room to each weekday. (Instead of a week per zone.). It works for me and my house. [Monday=Sunroom, Tuesday=Bathroom, Wednesday=Kitchen, Thursday=Living room, Friday=Bedroom]. Note: It is not a deep clean each week, just maintenance. The few other rooms in our house are not used much, so get cleaned less frequently.

I know I’m watching this video late … but the whole thing about FlyLady is that she DOESN’T overwhelm … BECAUSE she recommends to do JUST the 15 minutes. She doesn’t doesn’t expect, or even recommend, to do all of the possible tasks in the week’s zone. That way you won’t get tired … you’re still inspired … and you actually look forward to doing your 15 minutes the next day. That would have been nice to see. …Kim

I know how you feel. We were used to clean the house for hours! Now we take it by areas, bedrooms one day, bathrooms the other and another day for kitchen and livingroom.
    Thanks for the video

Like you, I find FlyLady a bit overwhelming, despite having been introduced to her many years ago. I like Steph’s modifications (The Secret Slob), Dana K. White (A Slob Comes Clean), & Diane in Denmark. Having the daily routines is key! Zones have always been the bane of my existence, but I’m giving them another whirl. You are killing yourself doing SO much in the zone-of-the-week. You finished in 2 days. I think that the idea is to work a set amount of time daily all week, but leave what you don’t get done until the next trip through the zone. I enjoy your music & your humor & honesty. I have no business sitting here watching you clean when I should be up & doing something! :).

I’ve had to set more than 15 minutes for myself on Zone Cleaning too. I have a back issue so I’m not as fast as I used to be with cleaning AND my house is bigger that what Fly Lady has set up. More rooms=more time!!

I just found your videos and I love your realness! I also am a huge fan of Flylady and The Secret Slob. You are doing so amazing, and you are absolutely beautiful♥ I hope to get into the zones a little better. I pretty much have the routines but the zones somehow make me feel overwhelmed. Hopefully I will keep getting ideas as you go along! Your house looks great!

Anyone coping with uncooperative body how about setting up a way to elevate your ankles above heart level. Since I've done this consistently (with or without cat on lap ;) ) i have seen increase in active days without subsequent "off days" despite daily meds.

I started 3 days ago and spent 3 hours on my kitchen…. That’s not how it’s supposed to work but I needed stuff to be done to be happy with the result … I hope once I finished every zone it will get easier. Adhd hyperfixation on cleaning is a thing…

I am domestically challenged as well. I think I will try this method. My asthma is put of control (Seeing a specialist) so I have good and bad days as well. My laundry is in my basement so its not important. I wish it was upstairs because of less steps.

Rule follower here too. But I work part time and some of the bigger things she says to do on whatever day, that's a work day for me. No way I am going grocery shopping on a day that I work. I would rather do that on a day I don't work. So I plan on switching things up.

Loved this! I am also starting zone cleaning. The biggest thing is having a spot on my phone to make a list of all the "squirrels" as I clean, then I tackle those on my "anti-procrastinaton day". Great job on all you accomplished. You are a rock-star!

@@missmustache4207 Any side projects that are found in the space I am cleaning. For example when cleaning my bathroom I find a prescription I need to fill. Instead of calling the pharmacy right then, I put it on a list and conquer the list on my anti- procrastination day that I do every Wednesday.

Hi Shannon! Wonderful job on zone 1. Just remember to pace yourself. I’ve learned that a timer is your best friend. And not everything on your list needs done. I’m trying to break my perfection habit and still find myself going back to marathon mode. Rely on the check lists as guides not as everything needs completed. Sometimes I comeback to an item as a 2-5 minute hotspot if I’m up for it. I’m trying to break the habit of saying this will take too long by using a timer and I’m always surprised what I got finished. Way to go girl! / I didn’t notice your pants at all. I just notice how stunningly beautiful you are! 😃 / Someday you will need to do a video about what you make. As another crafty friend, I always appreciate other artsy people’s creations! Hugs! Em. Keep going!! 🌸❤️🌸❤️🌸❤️. Ps your welcome mat is hilarious! 🤣

Hey hey. Your video just randomly popped up for me. Love watching!! I’ve been married almost 14 years and I’m just figuring out what works for me. The Secret Slob is my game changer. Couldn’t get through the day without her.
Also, the FlyLady says to declutter first bit that meant to be done as a whole. Go through your house and declutter EVERYTHING then you can start zone cleaning. It will make some cleaning sooo much nicer to do and will help with the mental part of it all. I promise it will work out better that way. I tried zone cleaning several times before I decluttered and it did not work at all. Was taking too long to zone clean and I got frustrated. Can t wait to watch more if your videos while I’m folding laundry, doing dishes or making dinner😘😘

Oh how I relate to you on so many levels. I've been bingeing your content and I'm almost tempted to start Flylady again (for the 987th time) but maybe it's part being in Australia and feeling like it doesn't relate to me as much or, if it's that like you I'm a rule follower... or perfectionist really - so if I can't do it "right" - I wont do it. lol I know Flylady speaks to that though... Having said that - I have come soooo far over the years so maybe I just keep on keeping on. Thanks again or sharing! ❤ Mel in Australia 🇦🇺🦘🐨
