I would like to thank the two ladies that prayed for me. My depression was getting into the dark zone. So I asked for prayer, and two wonderful ladies stepped up to the plate. I’m through that darkness and in the light again. Prayer works,Amen. Heather💜
Dana says if a space consistently gets out of control, you have too much in there. Take her advice into the craft closet👍 She’ll tell you, even “school supplies” can be clutter if you have excessive amounts of it. Good luck and can’t wait for that video❤
I finally learned to label cords when they come into the house! and to throw them out as soon as I find they are broken. I try to sort through them once a year.
We have a motion top garbage can for about 20 years. We love it, but the problem comes when you go to other people’s homes and wave your hand over their can and it doesn’t open 😂
I NEVER go into that stupid cord bin! Years ago I vowed to label every cord when it was new. Still hasn't happened🤨 This series is so much fun! Can't wait for the craft closet...😁😘
I started calling it the utility drawer, and we started putting less junk in it. I’m not sure if we changed habits or renaming it did something mentally. Ours has scissors, sharpies, a small hammer, pliers, and measuring tape. Rubber bands, pushpins, and that’s all I can recall. Used to have batteries but my husband bought a case and keeps them in different location now. However, we’ve got little hotspots in other places around the house still.
My kids drew a lot when they were young. I made a binder for each of them using plastic page holders. I saved every drawing. The are both professional artists now. My junk drawer is full of tools that my husband keeps organized. I collect bits iof junk in pottery bowls on my widow ledge..
I look so forward to your craft closet. I know you can make a huge declutter pile, and not have to dread the closet anymore. The children does not need ALL the games and ALL the craft supplies. It overwhelm both you and them. 😊❤
I put all the tiny things in very small zip lock bags I get at dollar tree. They keep all my screws in one, and paper clips in one and list goes on. Then all the little tiny things are not roaming all the Over the draw.
I just love you so much! Your look when you said that Steven could take care of it made me literally laugh out loud. Check the fuse on your microwave. So many times it's just a little fuse!
Put keys and cords in a dated envelope and throw them away after six months you’re never gonna touch them again… And phalanges I almost choked, laughing so hard… It’s a flange
That is EXACTLY what I was thinking for Keys and cords!! I did that with mine. Now I label cords. If a cord doesn’t have a label… I don’t need it … cause I don’t know what it’s for 😂🤷🏼♀️
Love your videos Shannon! For the craft cupboard, when you said "I just want to box it all up and burn it" it reminded me of The Minimalists idea of a packing party! Why not actually box it all up (in categories so that you can find anything if you need it) and then only take things out as and when you want them? Set a time limit (a year?) for when you're allowed to get rid of the boxes. I think that fits your description of an "aggressive decluttering practice" and hopefully means you don't have to spend much time in there at all.
I have to say about 90% of the mail coming into my house is junk mail and gets thrown away immediately. I have a small container for paperwork that my husband has to go through. If that container is full it has to be dealt with. I feel like everything comes with a remote now so my junk drawer has a bunch of those! Thanks for keeping it real and always motivating to be just a little bit better than yesterday!💕
Paper/mail etc. used to be the most stressful thing in my life, I even dreaded opening the envelopes. Change happened, I discovered bank auto pay for bills. Toss obvious junk mail without setting it down. Things that I maybe might want to look at, fliers, magazines etc. were put with the newspapers. When I had time to read the newspaper I could check them out, otherwise they were put to recycle at the end of the week. Things that had a definite home, went there. Things that needed immediate attention was all that was left. Suddenly seemed manageable… I dealt with them as soon as I had time.
We have a junk drawer that really needs to be gone through but also the deep bottom drawer that was the tool drawer only now is the tool drawer/larger junk drawer so need to go through that too. One reason it got bad is it was easier to put stuff in there then go outside & down a flight of stairs to the cellar. So will be doing those drawers now that I’ve watched this video. Happy weekend everyone.
That must feel so refreshing to have completed! I have a drawer that has random stuff but I wouldn’t call it a “junk” drawer.. I know everything that’s in it and I don’t let it get cluttered. I’m the same way with my refrigerator.. if you see something hanging on it it’s a big deal!
For me with cords…as it comes in the house it is labelled with the label maker, this has really helped with only having what we need, we’re never second guessing if we would miss a cord or not!
Fun idea for your craft closet……what if you donate everything in there, then restart with labeled bins as you purchase new craft items as needed…..I was a stamper card maker……overwhelmed with all those supplies I never used anymore. Doing a “restart” that way, I discovered a new hobby I enjoy more now and it’s interesting finding new items crafting new hobby. Plus, would make a fun vlog too “restart”. ❤❤❤❤❤
Great job Shannon!! I only have 3 drawers in my kitchen. None in either bathroom. I do have a plastic shoe box for tools . This morning I went through all the mail. Got tax stuff together. Shredded old insurance papers. Then put the new ones in folder. I do not take care of the mail as I get it. I need to work on that. And, i have a medium sized box of cords. On top shelf in my spare bedroom closet. Enjoyed watching the video.
Love this series! Our junk drawer has batteries, utensil packets from takeout, a pair of scissors, a couple of Sharpies, lighters, and extra caribiners. Lol We have a smaller tool drawer with the hammer, screwdriver, packing tape, and measuring tape. Can't wait for your craft closet because I have one that's a nightmare, too!
Hi Shannon! Can't wait to see the crap closet decluttering. Before you tackle it, maybe take a quick inventory and see if there's a large catagory of items that you can move to the upstairs loft area!
Morning! The hubs kept interrupting me, so it took two tries to watch this video 🤪 Yay, for new trash cans, that one looks awesome! - The things they dont tell ya in highschool - "When you're an adult, a new trash can will light up your world! Things to look forward to!" 🤣🤣 Lovely job on the drawer! I find empty spaces addicting, lol. Thanks for the video - have a fantastic day! ☀️
I love the Tile to find things! I have one on my purse, on my favorite scissors, one on my keys, and I’m fixing to put them on my password notebook and budget book. ❤
Great video!! Love the 'real' organising and decluttering you do ❤ Maybe to get ready for the CraftCrap🤭 Closet you could make a list of the things you think are in there that you need to keep, then give yourself permission to toss whatever you find that wasn't on the list. Also, if there are things that haven't been used since last time you organised it, maybe they can go too? It's like a giant Time Will Tell closet!! 😂
When we moved in our home 8 years ago we had to take out a large cabinet and large drawer(the junk drawer) to put in a dishwasher. So now and for a long time we keep pens only in my desk drawer. Electronics have their own bin, including all the cords. We keep one charger in house and one in our car. We keep some charging blocks for those random things that come with the plug with no charging block. We have one small bin for tape, screws, a hammer, and a screwdriver. We have a battery daddy for batteries. So surprisingly we don't have a junk drawer anymore! It's been amazing. And our papers get sorted when they come in the house. Trash automatically, need to reference, and then need to do. It's pretty awesome. You are doing great. I love your channel and the mi imal moms channel the most on all of RUclips. I get so excited when you post. You are so positive and fun.
Also I have a pile of all the kids artwork that I let pile up in it's own pile and then they go in a sentimental bin. I don't do well with routines either
That area of your kitchen looks awesome now! Good job! After seeing the photo of your craft closet, I just want to say that I would not want to go in there either. It is too overwhelming. I have a suggestion. Declutter it ruthlessly, like you planned, and then get rid of the big bookcase-like shelving on the back wall. Only keep what will fit easily and attractively on the white shelves on the left. It can be your "container" that limits what you keep. Then I think you will love that closet.
You really got the hang of it! You are now decluttering and organising like a pro, seeing what's not working and trying something else, instead of reorganising the same space only to get cluttered again in a short time. As Keanu would say, YOU are awesome!
I was cleaning out my cooking utensil drawer while you were working on your junk drawer. I got rid of 6 or 7 that we didn't use or need. Thanks for the inspiration!
I ended up making my junk drawer have purpose. I have baskets separating everything into categories: Stationary (tape, glue, pencil and sharpener), tools (screwdriver parts, allen keys), chargers, menus (Max 3) and incense.
Paper clutter was big problem for my husband! He would save everything even junk mail. After telling him for years he finally listened and got a paper shredder that we keep in the kitchen. And now he goes through it and shreds what is JUNK! 😂😂. Great decluttering video! I have been slowly decluttering and organizing my home once again.
Nice job! I needed to see someone handling mail ina practical way. I just watched someone who had thrown mail into a large shopping bag and taken it to her basement, left it there, apparently a common practice. Yikes!!! Even piling up in her office, or on a kitchen shelf would make me less nervous!
Shannon, we have the same trash can and it’s awesome! At one time we had a paper shredder however since a major move and downsize we are now able to burn our papers and cardboard. Thanks for the videos of Taking back your home. They have been very motivating.
YOU are awesome! Amazing work on those very tricky categories. You've leveled up in the game and now you're ready to defeat the big boss at the end... the craft closet.
as mail comes in we sort it at that time. I cleaned my junk drawer and am using it for my new measuring cups and spoons and other small baking tools I am so happy with it and it is easy to maintain. I do hope you do a video on your craft closet I need to do the same thing and it will be good motivation for me. I have a room of craft supplies I no longer do or want to do such as quilting, scrap booking,(with all the tools to do it plus scrapbooking paper and stickers) needle punch, crochet, sewing projects, bins of fabric and quilt batting, diamond painting, it is all going on a one way trip to donation I am purging my whole house and trying to simplifly It is just me and my husband and I want only stuff we need and currently use. Oh yes not to mention all the bins of my kids stuff over the years, obviously I will keep those. Shannon you are awesome, beautiful and I love your facial expressions, you just make me smile
I tackle the mail clutter by going thru it outside next to the recycle can which is fairly close to the mail box area as I'm walking back to the house. Then I'm only bringing in what needs to be delt with. I think this just gave me the extra nudge to clean my junk drawer. Thank you so much for sharing!
My husband has a junk drawer. The whole house would be his junk drawer but I won't allow it because I am a neat person! I process my mail right away. The junk goes in the trash and the bills go in the bill drawer of the desk.
Great job! For the first time, I worked along with you. I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but it was progress. I think there are channels I can just listen. You're not one. I like to see your expressions and what you're doing, lol. Take care, Linda 🦋
Our solution for cords: we have board on the wall in our office. There are hanging all the cords we use almost daily. Each one has a label to what it belongs (phone, ipad, watch, camera and so on). We also have a charging station right next to it, so that phones and ipads can be charged easily. Works quite well. Other cords I keep with the gadget it belongs to (toothbrush, window cleaner, stuff like that which are used not so often). No cords in the junk drawer (but other random bits and pieces 😎).
What I’ve been doing lately is ask before I declutter…why am I doing this? What’s the purpose of the space? How I love a good declutter! Nice work!❤ I think it’s the perfect time to tackle that closet since u feel like burning it all to the ground!! U will be ruthless! U can do it Shannon!!❤😊
I just went through my 13 year old daughters bathroom cabinet, and it made me angry - LOL! I found hangers and socks and coconut water.... all sorts of randomness. GEEZ!
I dont have a junk drawer. Mainly because I tore most of the drawers out. Lol. Batteries are in battery cases in the herbals cabinet, screwdrivers are in the tool box drawers in the laundry area, and keys are collected in a cat food tray with all the crazy mess of old screws, nails, etc. That meed sorted into their appropriate boxes or trashed.
I have the same bins! BTW, find out what that gunk was and use this concoction for any sturdy repair jobs around the house 😂 my junk drawer: screwdriver, battery charger, spare bottle lids, plastic bag clips, labels, screws I find randomly and which dont have a home (far back of the drawer, in their own container), cords for kitchen things I rarely recharge (labeled). It is all stuff I use in the kitchen or it has to go. I have only 4 shallow drawers in my kitchen (European home, a lit smaller than the US) and that is valuable real estate. I need a junk drawer but it cant overflow. Our keys are in the hallway cabinet, below the key bowl for all regular keys. What we don't have in the junk drawer: remotes and pens. Only one pen in the kitchen, on the fridge door with a notepad. It works! But a working system still needs maintenance, but once a year is enough. If you start searching, it doesn't work and needs too much maintenance.
My junk drawer tiny containers hold the following: Chapstick and lighters Safety pins and tiny screwdrivers, for those batteries in things that are on lockdown Heartburn and lactaid pills Pens and pencils Highlighters and sharpies Tape measure, regular size flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, laser tape measure and super glue Scotch tape post it notes clothes pins Pocket knives and a small level Stays pretty tidy and we all know where to find those random things when we need them 😊 I tackle the mail and kids school papers IMMEDIATELY Loved this video and reading the things everyone else keeps in their junk drawers ❤
I don’t have a junk drawer anymore because they stress me out. For cords, if they have the gadget name on it I put it in the gadget box in the loft because original cords help with reselling. Then I keep 2 of each, 1 short and 1 long. That way if one breaks I have a spare till I can order a new one. Unless my husband finds them first and he hoards them in his office. 😂 I do my paper on Thursday because I hate it and I get to tell myself I don’t have to do it all week. But I do check it when it comes in to check it’s not urgent.
I don't have a junk drawer. I have a "utility" drawer....no junk allowed.in it :-) As for paper clutter...junk mail goes straight into recycle bin. I label my chords with blue painters tape that way I always know what goes with what, and when I can get rid of item & corresponding chord at the same time. You took back another spot in your house!
I love your videos.. I have had the flu and i just can't get any energy back.. I just keep trying. You always look so pretty. Hope you have a good day...
I don’t have a junk drawer because everything has a home throughout my house and we’re pretty minimal so we don’t have random things really. With cords I only keep ones that we use regularly or that go to equipment that we own! Mail we go through as it comes in the door. Bills go in a bin that we pay once a week.
Clutterbug I think just did another video on paper clutter recently ❤ I've got a junk drawer, but it can stay junky because it's only me. So it's in my desk/vanity and it'll have pens, OTC meds, and just an array of whatever in there 😂 It's all necessary, so I don't freak out about it. It's a tiny drawer that's next to my bigger drawer space that has a big plastic organizer in there with lots of spaces (got it from IKEA for cheap), which also has random stuff and makeup! So if I'm getting ready and have sniffles, it's one and done 👍🎉
When me or hubby brings in the mail, if it is something that needs to be filed or action taken, we spend a couple minutes taking care of it. Otherwise, it goes straight into the recycling bin.
Very satisfying declutter and reorganise - thank you! Just what I needed. Scheduling and routines are something I'm insisting on improving with myself this year. I want to avoid the huge effort every time there's an event - I travel - I have guests coming to stay - all those moments where I'm like a wombat digging her den - dirt flying with huge long hard days - getting everything just so. It's all such hard labour. I want to do that in smaller bite sized projects daily and weekly so it's all just done when the event comes up. I'm trying to put in place structures to help me remember. Power to you, too, hoping you get there as well 😊
It is a real thing for hs moms. Crafts and games are the bain of all of our existence. 😂😂 You are helping me get through all of my "junk". Shannon- you give me hope and inspiration to "take back" my whole house!!!
I have a drawer that I contain pencils, pens, scissors, stapler, paper clips, rubber bands, labels, staple remover, ruler, deck of cards, a couple of screw drivers. I came up with a plan on cords. I have a plastic clear container full of cords. I have no idea what they go to. I attached a piece of masking tape on it with the date. My plan is if and when I do figure out what the cord goes to I will mark the tape with what it bellows to. After one year if I don't come up with what it goes to going in trash. I am also labeling cords with what they go to when they are new and first come into house. Just started this will see how it works.
No junk drawer here….. It would give me too much anxiety! I do have a hanging pouch in the kitchen for incoming mail / gift cards / things that need attention. Batteries go in the battery daddy in the hall closet. Pens/tape/paper in my desk. Tools in the tool box downstairs. Tried all those random keys & no matches so they went right in the trash 😅😂. I think the cord thing depends on the person - my husband works in tech so he has a ton of different cords and adapters and all that junk- he keeps it in a storage bag and if a new thing doesn’t fit I make him go through it and downsize lol. As for me, I keep one phone charger, my watch charger, and pair of headphones in my desk drawer, anything extra I give to my husband to put in his organizer or throw out. I recommend keeping the “brand name” cords. All the junky cords that come with every electronic nowadays. I’d just toss it. Unfortunately no one else needs them either, so you can’t even really donate them! Just a friendly tip, If you know you’ll never actually utilize the junk drawer, I would suggest to just get rid of it! Loving the Take My Home Back videos…. they’re very motivating. Keep it up sista!! 🥳
Yay for all the clutter cleared! I think you are asking too much from the craft closet (too many categories stored in there). For example, put the games in the play room. The craft supplies with your homeschooling supplies. In my experience with homeschooling, we rarely did actual crafting at home, mostly it was at co-op, the library, Sunday school, etc. So if you don't find yourself even using the craft supplies but they just end up making a mess because they get pulled out...donate them!
Totally agree with you. I was helping my sister organize a closet and that was the thing, she was giving it too many jobs. It was full of linens, cleaning supplies, medicine. pet supplies and more.
You’re lucky Nice big kitchen i don’t have a junk drawer kitchen too small … sow i put keys with the other keys everything like pencils markers paper clips in a drawer near my computer and the tools nails screws in a small tool box. Gift cards on a Board on the wall to see and use it. Thank you for this video and for the motivation 😁
I would like to thank the two ladies that prayed for me. My depression was getting into the dark zone. So I asked for prayer, and two wonderful ladies stepped up to the plate. I’m through that darkness and in the light again. Prayer works,Amen. Heather💜
I totally thought you said the crap closet instead of the craft closet. 😂😂😂😂😂
Dana says if a space consistently gets out of control, you have too much in there. Take her advice into the craft closet👍 She’ll tell you, even “school supplies” can be clutter if you have excessive amounts of it. Good luck and can’t wait for that video❤
We got one of those trash cans but my dog learned really quick that he just had to run his snout over the sensor and tada midnight snack! 🤣🤣
I process mail every day as it comes in. I don’t let it sit. I designate it to bill section in office, recycle bin for some and shredder for others.
I finally learned to label cords when they come into the house! and to throw them out as soon as I find they are broken. I try to sort through them once a year.
That after is everything. My jaw dropped! You did that! 🎉
Yay top 159 comments. Love this channel. Best to you and your family. Thanks for making this video. Happy Holidays.
My dog figured the motion garbage can out. We are back to the Costco foot pedal one
😂
I have a " junk house" not a drawer. 😂
Meeee toooo
Start you a RUclips channel I would watch it do it before something happens and you have to like moving ,job change ,ect
Such a big victory! Once I declutter a space I can't help but admire it for days afterwards, lol. Your kitchen looks so fresh and clean now!

One thing that has helped me tremendously for the last year is to call it the miscellaneous drawer instead of junk drawer. Totally different mindset.
I look so forward to your craft closet. I know you can make a huge declutter pile, and not have to dread the closet anymore. The children does not need ALL the games and ALL the craft supplies. It overwhelm both you and them. 😊❤
Love you Shannon. It is always so nice to take back a space.
Shannon, you look so happy and refreshed!!! Get it girl!!!

Ok that plastic piece you found, my grandkids have a doll house and it went to the stair case! Hahaha

Shannon, we have the same trash can and it’s awesome! At one time we had a paper shredder however since a major move and downsize we are now able to burn our papers and cardboard. Thanks for the videos of Taking back your home. They have been very motivating.
oohhh im salivating thinking about that craft closet glow up. DO IT PLEASE!
Next video the closet !! Your assignment 😂😂💪💪
Looks great! Thank you for making me giggle today! I needed a giggle! 💕- Joanna
Great work!!
What I’ve been doing lately is ask before I declutter…why am I doing this? What’s the purpose of the space? How I love a good declutter! Nice work!❤
I think it’s the perfect time to tackle that closet since u feel like burning it all to the ground!! U will be ruthless! U can do it Shannon!!❤😊
Cheer🎉squad here 📣. I organized one section of papers in my office. Go me! Paper clutter is my nemesis
Your videos always make my day. Thank you ❤
I have the same bins!
Victory!! Junk drawers are so hard!
My junk drawer tiny containers hold the following:
Chapstick and lighters
Safety pins and tiny screwdrivers, for those batteries in things that are on lockdown
Heartburn and lactaid pills
Pens and pencils
Highlighters and sharpies
Tape measure, regular size flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, laser tape measure and super glue
Scotch tape post it notes clothes pins
Pocket knives and a small level
Stays pretty tidy and we all know where to find those random things when we need them 😊
I tackle the mail and kids school papers IMMEDIATELY
Loved this video and reading the things everyone else keeps in their junk drawers ❤
I like how your trash can just opens randomly like “Trash??😃” lol when you’re just walking by with your paper clutter 😂
It’s so eager to receive my trash 😂
I label all cords to what they belong to. Really helps!
My junk drawer house batteries, cords, bandaids, candles, matches, and extra keys.
Toss those cords and get in that craft closet lady!!! You’ve got this!!
Our junk draw has paperclips, tape, staples, envelope opener and post it's.
Power to you, too, hoping you get there as well 😊
Great job
It is a real thing for hs moms. Crafts and games are the bain of all of our existence. 😂😂 You are helping me get through all of my "junk". Shannon- you give me hope and inspiration to "take back" my whole house!!!
That Battery Daddy, I didn't even know it existed but that seems so handy that I'm ordering one right away
I have a home for everything...it stops having a junk drawer ❤
I don’t have a junk drawer… I’ve never understood it! I don’t have junk! Pens go in the office, hair ties in my dressing table etc!
Ive learned how to go thru the stuff to keep and trash the junk
Microwaves aren’t bad. They simply reheat water molecules in the food.
Batteries, pens, pencil, tape, small scissors, paper ,screw driver set small. Keys.
I honestly do not have a junk drawer. I have one that has a lot of household tools, etc. but, it’s organized.
Looks great! Hugs Em ❤❤❤❤❤
Great job!!!!!
Just today, Clutterbug on RUclips talked about paper clutter and how to organize it. Worth a listen!
You’re lucky Nice big kitchen i don’t have a junk drawer kitchen too small …
sow i put keys with the other keys everything like pencils markers paper clips in a drawer near my computer
and the tools nails screws in a small tool box.
Gift cards on a Board on the wall to see and use it.
Thank you for this video and for the motivation 😁
