    I often wondered why they separated the saucer but I think I know why they did they the reason why is because captain Picard witnessed first hand what the Q were capable of and he didn't want the families onboard to have to witness what the Q were capable of or be put on trial he truly did care about everyone onboard his ship. Making captain Picard my favorite Starship Captain ever.

      Other captains didn't have saucer separations or families aboard. It seems very irresponsible to put families on a vessel that is often sent into combat and war against horrible, cruel enemies.
