"I've never been a fan of bosses being able to heal themselves"
Logically, it makes sense... We have access to restorative moves and items, so bosses doing the same can be interesting and catch you off guard... It's just HOW it's implemented that's the issue. Having ways to prevent it would make it interesting. That YX fight at the end of DDD.... yeah screw that fight
Yeah, fair. The YX fight actually reminds me of a fight from another series (Tales) that I probably shouldn't waste time talking about.
As for an example of a fight where the boss heals themselves that's actually kinda neat, I'd say Vanitas Remnant.
Yeah but bosses typically have deeper healthpools and more defense. Not to mention bosses a lot of times being able to bring you to near death in one or two hits.
Terranort is fine since he doesn't heal that much and you can actually fight him unlike Mysterious Figure.
@@etonasama Eh. I was thinking YX though. Not Terranort.
Another boss that can technically heal himself would be the final boss of Re:Mind. I was so frustrated that one time I actually emptied his health, but he'd stolen my kupo coin.
You can prevent it and if you fail he comes back with less health and the second time you reach the clock it has also less health. So even if you mess up you still make progress.
I honestly like his clock a lot.
My traumatic fight is Data Larxene from KH2. She literally just spams thunder until you die, and due to the small battlefield, it's basically impossible to avoid it.
Yeah for that one you gotta reflect after you hit her revenge value. Personally I had more trouble dealing with her clones
@@RubyRaggy well that too the lighting attacks are just the most infamous for me.
Same as her usual battles in my opinion 🥲
@@thatkingdomheartsguy9615I think with Max glide you might be able to avoid it but it's been awhile since I fought data Larx in non-rando. Reflect is also going to help alot with the Spam and also just using Limits like duckflare
That's weird because she was the easiest for me. Beat her first try
What I hate in a boss battle are when the boss attacks you and there is no way to impossible to dodge or not take damage, or when the boss is charging up something and they keep you away from attacking them like Sephiroth's heartless angel move.
i feel the same way about xemnas stupid release move in the first kh that drains ur health it’s fucking annoying esp since you lose more health if u hit the wrong button
You can actually jump and reach Zephiroth when he’s doing that
Master Xehanort fight in KH3 ReMind.
I could barely get a hit in.
@@northernlightz5319I mean kh3 is the bad boss battle altogether 😑
@RPGNoZero yeah just max out all the high jump and glide and you can attack him as he charges
fun fact about mysterious figure: during playtesting, testers said it was too tough, and nomura allegedly gave him an extra HP bar in response
That just BREATHES petty man....
Thing that aggervates me the most is when a boss only have a small window to actually damage them. Ursula in Rechain of memories is the worst because you'll have to start reloading your cards so the waiting period is even longer
Unless if you're playing as Riku, then the reload is instant. Lucky.
Break her cards and only attack when you are breaking her cards
Ansem in the first phase of World of Chaos
"Yeah you can beat the boss when hes *constantly* spawning lasers at you right?"
That's why I'll never play that shit. It's the only Kh game I didn't play and won't
Oogie. Boogie.
ALL FORMS OF OOGIE BOOGIE.
To be fair in regards to the young xehanort fight it technically only returns him back to only four health bars, as apposed to him having his full health in the very beginning if you fail to beat the clock before it resets
Mine had 1.5 bars left. Depends really on how much time there is left on the rewinding clock
I thought it depends on how much Damage you dealt to the clock before the reset happens
It returns him back to usually less than half his health and the next clock phase the clock starts out very injured already
Is he really that hard?
I always beat him on my first try... i never really had an issue with that clock move
@@marvin39195 in Proud he’s OK. In Critical he can be a pain
I heavily appreciate the DIO references with Young Xehanort here
But yeah, his fights in DDD and especially in BBS are just the absolute worst
Same I also like how it's the jojo but really fast version
Don’t you diss BBS like that!
At least in DDD, he was manageable enough(Though maybe it’s because I used Reality Shifts)
I literally accidentally beat MF as Terra. He was invisible and I guess I hit him enough times but I thought for like 10 seconds that he killed me because I was so used to dying.
It gave me anxiety watching the Ursula fight and Sora attacking her from the front
The way you described the Grim Reaper fight is actually the reason why it's one of my favorites, there is a certain rush I feel while managing MP and running around for the medals while dodging its attacks, it is a very fun fight that keeps you on your toes all the time, but still not being too hard, being quite mindless on Standard but decently challenging on Critical
Yea, this is actually a *good* boss, not too hard but different enough to present its own challenge while still being interesting.
I feel the same way!
Not gonna lie. I like the Grim Reaper fight 😬
Me too, not being able to find a missing coin is annoying but I liked the battle over all
I know I was more annoyed by the Barbosa fight cuz Jack kept dying and if he dies you lose the fight!
I like him too
Very easy
I’d argue it’s one of the better heartless bosses because it has a real interaction with the world
@@xpopups agreed
With how many fire boss fights we get in KH though, it's impressive that there aren't more horrible fights or fights that are worse than the ones you listed.
The amount of despair and PTSD I feel when I hear Dark Impetus play as some hooded dude twirling around blue lightsabers is pretty crazy.
Fun memory about Ruler of the Sky: I tried playing it in multiplayer as Demyx. The windup on the first hit of Demyx's basic combo is so slow that it's impossible to hit him.
Fun fact about Mysterious Figure, he was actually conceived and developed for the original Japanese non-fm release, but was cut due to the devs thinking he was an unfair fight. He would later be implemented due to story implications in the American release and later the Japanese Final Mix release of Birth by Sleep.
And then Young Xehanort had absolutely zero interactions with the Birth by Sleep cast at all outside of that game, making all of the pain and suffering completely pointless.
I don't know if someone else had personal difficulty with this one, but I subjectively had a lot of trouble fighting Captain Hook in BBS. I underestimated him and I instantly regretted it lol
I agree - that just made him a really fun fight for me
Fun fact: Mysterious Figure is the only boss battle that had to be nerfed for future releases. In the original PSP release, getting caught in his Collision Magnet was an automatic game over, since he’d follow up with an attack before the stun animation was finished. In the console releases, Collision Magnet became escapable with air dash. Not that it made much of a difference.
Vanitas Remnant has traumatized me so many times I now have PTSD whenever I look at an Oreo
I remember the ruler of the sky genuinely hurting my hands to play against on DS cause of having to hold the glide button and move the dpad, also this isn't a boss battle but a mission in 358days where you need to clear SIX bosses , 2 of which I believe are mentioned already, in a very tight time limit.
tbh 3D xehanort wasnt that bad considering that every time that he does rewind time, he has considerably less and less hp, so even if you couldnt stop it in time, it didnt extend the length of the fight TOO much.
I love Data Luxord in KH3. Really changes the pace of the fight, which helps a lot with the variety!
And there is little waiting around. As soon as one game is over the next begins. I like slowing the pace down a bit and using my brain. The only issue with the fight is not the fight itself, but how much Sora flails around with even a single melee press and you needing to be accurate. But that's just one of the several mechanic issues with KH3.
It's really good. Skyward just has a skill issue
My only issue is the auto target in the fight tends to make you accidentally hit the wrong card.
Forgot to mention with the Julius fight that if he hits you with charged fists, you lose a command bar.
Few of these are a bit incorect. For example YX in DDD only get's his full health back if you fail to do enough damage to the clock.
Also in the Luxord fight you don't have to run towards the cards. You can use shootlock to slow down time and then airstep to the right one.
I feel like few of these you just made hard for yourself lol.
I have actually never thought about doing this. Huh. Yeah that would speed things up incredibly.
I have an idea for a video, you know how each secret boss had theories on who they might be ? I think a video covering the history of each mysterious secret boss and the speculations around him would be fun.
Dude I remember like 13 years ago watching a vid of the secret boss from bbs, (black coat guy with blue sabers) and thinking it was somehow xehanort with time travel with the clocks. Then I played DDD and yeahhhh.
The phrase "Dance water Dance!" Still haunts me. To this day. I really despise that boss fight.
DANCE WATER DANCE
I never really had a problem with Young Xehanort in DDD. Mechanically speaking, the clock that resets the battle if you don't destroy it is just your standard time limit death, no different from Demyx. It just has neat flavour text and doesn't send you to the Game Over screen.
Been watching you since your KH 2 final mix let's play - this video is giving me throwbacks to the Golden Keyblade. Thanks for still making videos! 🥳
0:37 I screamed way louder when I finally beat that man :’D
Woke up the whole house ^. ^’
I feel like Skyward doesn't know that Data Luxord (KHIII) does have openings after pretty much all of his attacks.
I respected your takes but saying that data luxord is bad because you have to wait for openings is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. Idk if you played crit/lvl 1 crit but that applies for every data fight in kh3, and the fights are masterpieces because of it. The game forces you to pay attention and learn defense instead of mashing attack like most players are used to.
he has played crit since in some of the clips he had crit amount HP which i feel like makes this take more absurd
I like the concept of data luxord. It's more of a game than the kh2 version I think
Yea that take had me so confused. Especially when he said in the other kh3 datas you can be aggressive and attack them whenever while showing a clip of him trying to hit Larxene mid attack and getting the shit kicked out of him while dealing no damage. All kh3 datas have like 90% damage resistance while they're not open. Beyond just kh3 tho waiting for openings is the basis for like all well made kh fights. Thats just what you do in kh
It's definitely a hot take, but difficulty is subjective. It's obvious he did not know you could air step during the DM and he is right about Sora jerking too much during his combo starters. And while there is less waiting then he lets on (really there is no waiting, it's back to back games) it is definitely slower then the other ones.
@@MrMeowstic7 I still loved his dialogue in KH2. "Look who's on top of the game!"
Not having Terranort or Vanitas on here feels criminal, but seeing Leechgrave and Ruler of the Sky being so high is justified in my book
I find them a lot less aggregious then Data Riku. He is the only boss without a discernable pattern as far as I know and is more about reaction speed. I put all ez codes on so I could never die just to try and figure out how he works (really all combat based action games should come with a training setting) and I still could not do it. I beat him simply by mashing, you know the thing these fights are supposed to stop but he has the least HP if I'm not mistaken and one lucky run of last second healing and not getting destroyed while doing it is all you need.
@@PathBeyondTheDarkI actually just finished the Data Fights/Yozora on my Crit run, and with them fresh on my mind, I didn't like Data Riku that much because of how spammy he was. Probably the most frustrating Data Fight for me. The worst one? Nah, that goes to Xigbar/Luxord.
Also, Data Riku's patterns are tied to his explosive spawns. They spawn in horizontal lines, vertical lines, and circles, and each one of those give away what attack patterns he'll do. I can't tell you exactly what patterns are tied to what formation sadly, but someone more knowledgeable on the fight may be able to answer.
Was Terranort hard? I found him to be a hard, but 1st tryable boss. Vanitas wasn’t a bas boss either in my opinion. Curious of your reasoning?
Watching this video made me realize that the bosses in Days were pretty hit-or-miss. Leechgrave and the Ruler were mentioned but the Antlion only allowed toy amall windows of attacks after which you had to hit back its own explosives when it rose out of the sand, and getting those explosives to go his way wasn't easy.
Regular Demyx was a big enough pain in the ass. I'm glad I haven't tried DATA Demyx.
This reminded me of a time I was fighting Ursula at a friends house and I crashed out because I kept getting killed by that lighting. I was legit biting a pillow and screaming when his older sister walked in on me lol
I've never been more stressed out fighting a boss fight like Ursula before 😭
I had a glittch that happened to me against spellican , during the fight he just teleported under the arena where I could not hit him . And then I died .
I don’t know why I hadn’t subscribed to your channel. I jut did. Greetings!
9:25 From what I remembered from your previous version of this list, you had Trickmasters, Dustflier, Darkside & Zexion on there, since you did bring up Ursula, Spellican, Grim Reaper, Leechgrave & Ruler of the Sky already on that video as well.
My personal worst was the phantom. Between the weak point gimmick and the doom clock, I always dreaded facing him to get the stop spell upgrade.
I repeat, Melody of Memory's Dark Domination on Proud!
10:08 you dont have to destroy the tentacles I remember beating on the grave until I beat it but you have to be careful of the thing inside it because it will one tap if you get swipped lol
having a list like this and not including the secret boss from 358 with a million HP that spends most of the fight flying away is just criminal
Julius legit gave me ptsd as a kid, i thought balloon sucked so i never used it. Oh boy i made it harder.
I hated learning the grim reaper fight with no help cause as a kid I didnt understand the mechanic at all intuitively but after I figured it out it was ended up being one of my favorites
While I've never done it, I imagine the Unknown in BBS Final Mix is a pain because it constantly attacks you.
Don't. Fighting him is pure hell!
How bout “top ten pure fun KH bosses” where it’s just about how well the mechanics are incorporated, or how a boss utilized a certain gimmick to enhance the experience, or how epic the level design is, etc
Everytime I think about playing Days again, I remember this Ruler of the sky battle and give up.
Just seeing Ruler of the Skies, I became angry, frustrated, and felt like my time had been wasted for no good reason. Thanks for a great list!
Thank you for reminding my of Data Luxord of the Re:Mind kind, and all the pain thag came with that fight.
I also hated the keeper of the sky boss fight in 358 along with leech grave cause those two alone gave me all sorts of trouble
The Mysterious Figure was very annoying to beat. It took me 2 days just to try and beat him with Aqua and Ventus and 3 days with Terra due to some limitations he has like the way he dodges is different compared to Aqua and Ventus so I had to adjust my way in fighting this guy. And after beating him, I thought I hope he doesn't show up again.
Then Dream Drop Distance. I was fighting Young Xehanort and notice his weapon and the color and he is able to control time. And the first thing that came in my mind was : OH $#@%! NOT YOU AGAIN!
There is also that Vanitis Remnant (I think that is what he is called) who was also in Birth By Sleep. When you fight him, he has only one health bar which I thought was odd and found out magic doesn't hurt him and you have to beat him with only physical attacks, the problem with that is that he takes very little damage that way so it takes a long time to beat him and it is another fight that you also have to dodge a lot. You also can't uses cure in this fight because he copys you and heals himself so have to use healing items instead or some other way to heal yourself. Shotlocks can't hurt him either, but they are useful in avoiding some damage if you are having problems dodging his attacks like when he encases himself in a black orb and sends shadow clones of himself to attack you. And the funny thing is that you have to beat him if you want to fight the Mysterious Figure (Young Xehanort) later on.
I thought that too when I pieced it together in 3D. I was scared as hell till I beat him and thought, "Well.....that wasn't so bad...."
TIME STOP
You know what makes Ruler of the Sky worse? Your strongest physical keyblade at that point in the game only has a 2-hit aerial combo, and the second attack in that combo is the dive that's easy to miss as he just flies away.😅😤
Alternatively, just use fire with a magic keyblade and oneshot each segment. Even at level one each segment is a four shot. Days incentivises you to experiment with strategies and not just use your combos, especially against bosses.
@@IGSA101 Honestly I hated how they handled magic so much that aside from cure and a couple other exceptions I didn't really use it. Though that is interesting to know. Thanks
@@joeyjjmoore Some of the spells in days are ridiculously powerful, for instance thundaga hits twice, and both hits can jolt, so if the first hit jolts the second has tripled damage.
@@IGSA101 That was actually one of the ones I used (even though I didn't completely like the change they made to it). Honestly mostly used it to get some damage on Saix when he teleported to the pillar. Funnily enough if you do enough damage or knock him out of Berserk state he'll fall off. Also didn't notice the multi-hit or completely know how Jolt worked, so that's interesting.
I achieved Platinum on BBS yesterday on Critical Mode, and trust me. I will NEVER do that Mysterious Figure fight again. NEVER!
wait, wait, wait! You're telling me that Xehanort gets a Bites the Dust ability in Dream Drop and he has a literal Stand that acts a bit like Anubis with the Submit ability in KH1?! Did Square read a bunch of JoJo and decide that every main antagonist power should be featured in each game Xehanort exists in?
I will not tolerate grim reaper slander lol. Especially when Vanitas Remnant didn’t make the list 😭
I don't know what's going on, but RUclips keeps unsubscribing me from your channel, this is the 3rd time I've subbed to you.
So 358/2 Days. There’s a particular mission in Mission Mode that’s essentially a Boss Rush for every Heartless you’ve faced relatively up to now. After clearing the last boss, you could exfill…or there’s a special boss you gotta go find. You get to the train station, and you are met with the most BS boss fight in the entire game. The Crimson Wyvern. This boss fight was a paaaaiin, with such a limited field of movement, it can summon a meteor shower that can rip 1/4 your health as damage per hit. It’s body slam can cause Silence, negating all Magic(who’s system was either busted or garbage, depending on the spell or level of the spell), it’s tail slap can cause Confusion, inverting your controls for a spell, or THE WORST AFFLICTION EVER in game, Weighted/ over-encumbered, with not only slows you down, but also limits your jump and gliding ability, in an already limited amount of space. I tried so hard to fight it…I noped after the 6th attempt. To this day I never defeated it, that thing is so INFURIATING!
I've got a video walkthrough on my channel if you'd like to see how I beat the Dustflier.
Oogie Boogie
Terras final boss in BBS and the final boss for the final route in bbs were the worst. You basically have to rely on deflecting, because attacking as you combo’d to death. Took me ages
I remember hating the fight with mysterious figure primarily because he could take away your ability to attack. I also remember him using this one attack where he just kept summoning clones of himself to attack while his real body casually strolled behind them, like come on man.
Mysterious figure single handedly broke my Square button back on the 2.5 collection, having that platinum trophy for BBS is worth it and i got it again in the 1.5+2.5 collection
I spent an obscene amount of time Fighting Final Vanitas as Ventus (I later found out level 18 is not a level you want to do that fight at, and I had no leveled up links) I learned my lesson and Grinded Aqua to level 48 before fighting Braig on critical
i was pissed off when YX went back in time, but at the same time, IT IS SO COOL. Dude literally Bites The Dust you and I love it. He did it only one time to me, and that's enough to make me love the boss fight
Ruler of the Sky will forever be the bane of my existence.
I'm glad that both data demxy and data luxord were on this list (I hate fighting them) however re:mind luxord I actually preferred fighting compared to kh2 because in kh2 the ENTIRE fight revolves around timing which as a child I didn't have even to this day I have trouble with his DM but in remind it felt like an actual fight that had some timing parts also it's the only re:mind data fight I beat on my first try
I love what Joshscorcher says about Ruler of the Sky. "Long and boring boss is LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG and boring"
As someone who grew up playing BBS, i feel validated that others also find the mysterious stranger hard
Genie Jafar.
All versions.
Run to the smackable spot, stay there, get moved away, repeat.
The mole im dream drop drove me nuts having to fight it 2 times and it just kept running away from me
That an xigbar as a kid i literally couldn't beat his move where youre in a small platform and have to run in circles
The ursula fight in KH1 is basically the climax of a recent Dreamworks movie.....😆😆😆
Dance water dance is ingrained in my head
Ruler of the sky better be on here
I still remember as a kid playing kh2 on critical and xaldin and xigbar were the biggest pain
That 2nd Ursula fight was the bane of my existence when I first played that game.
You are meant to use air step during Luxord's DM. I find it the absolute easiest and least frustrating of the battles. You have just enough time to think before you are punished as opposed to the non-stop aggression of other fights, and it's more then just guard > counter to open up the opponent. I still love the other fights (aside from Data Riku) but Luxord is definitely the most fun for me.
The worst for me are two bosses: Data Riku and Data Saix, from KH3. Data Riku's entire gimmick is just filling the screen with AOE, turning the boss into a game of "find the one pixel of safe ground." But both him AND Data Saix have far too many particle effects. I have vision problems and so the sheer amount of explosions and particles means I can't actually SEE anything going on. The fact that mechanically they're the same dance fight we've had since KH2 just means I can't see anything AND they aren't fun to fight.
Say what you will about Mysterious Figure, but at least he had comedy value.
10:00 I remember getting walled here so I went and did every available challenge to 3 sigils and got all the mission crowns I could. Did a whole bunch of leveling. Used a str based blade and tanked hit after hit, used my limit attack to shred that mother clucker.
Also, Grimm reaper 2 is a really good fight if you set it up. Shortcut thunder and reflect, give doland thunder and only let jack use his throwing knives. Thunder spam while jack throw knives, making it drop mp orbs to replenish us. After the dm go matter form and just spam Thunder in a circle around the reaper, it will go down no problem
Mysterious Figure is really cool but holy shit the devs were losing their minds making him.
Giving him orbs that shoot the player from all directions literally impossible to block(unless your Aqua)
Giving him a doom attack that gives u 5 seconds (FAST SECONDS MIND YOU) to mash out that gradually starts at a lower time the more u get hit
Rewinding and punishing u for attacking
Back in the psp version version the rope attack usually lead to u dying(iykyk)
The invisibility making him impossible to lock on to
His ai will instantly use invisibility if u try to d link
He can interrupt and cancel his attacks in RESPONSE to your block
Seriously wtf were they thinking
Please do your top 10 best boss fights in KH next bc its only right that since you started with the hardest ans worst boss fights that you do the best boss fights Skyward also I really love your KH3 story rewrite vid it makes the story so much better compared to the we actually got.
There’s a glitch I found out when fighting Demyx yesterday (for the first time. I did not have fun) After the first wave of water clones and when you defeat them all. If you hit him with like 5 empty ground hits (not fully finishing a combo) then do a full air combo. then get one full ground combo off. He will start doing his move that activates Sora’s reaction command. I don’t have the full recording but I have a 30 second clip on my switch of him just repeatedly doing it over and over again. I found this out after I lost 10 times the previous day then like 6 yesterday. Also you can’t use any drive forms
I mute my TV every time I play a song mission in Atlantica in KH2
Yeah I think I just thunder surged the mysterious figure. This man was just spamming 😭
The ruler of the sky fight is the bane of my existence. It is so slow and when it goes berserk he does a lot of damage. It's still hard for me to believe that I beat this guy on the hardest difficulty. Took forever but I did it
Blasting lingering spirirt with aeroga was fun. :P
the twin bosses from wonderland from 358/2 days not being here is criminal.
Bro I remember fight young xehanort in DDD, all I needed to do was hit him one more time and I would have won, but then the fight reset and I was this close of throwing my controller out the window
My nightmares are with Terranort (Xehanort in terra's body) at the end of terra's campaign of BBS, but im still discovering the kingdom hearts games so that may change.
Before I say anything, I love you’re content and I enjoyed the video 💗
Imma be real, I think putting Grim Reaper and Data Luxord on the same list as Leechgrave is kinda crazy. Like the days bosses are a whole new breed of terribly designed and miserable to do. At least Grim Reaper staggers and can realistically be beaten in a timely manner if you’re careful (unlike every days boss).
I remember when 100%ing birth by sleep, I beat unknown (young xehanort) with all 3 characters on psp where when you get caught by his tether you can't dodge out of his attack. Took like 90-something tries but I perservered.
I didn't know that Young Xehanort had the world for a stand!
for some reason i had a lot of trouble with the trickmaster back in kh1
Yup, this list is pretty on point. I wouldn’t put ruler of the skies quite that high, maybe the secret boss from days.
that water guitar guy, i used to hate him but once i learned the swing tech that fight became stupid easy
Honestly if I had to chose a boss from KH2, in the second visit of the worlds, I'd go with The Experiment instead of The Grim Reaper... The Experiment Fight is scary to me, especially on LV1, oh my god xD
Other than that, great list !
Honestly, I thought that the final battle with Marluxia (Re: Chain of Memories) was a difficult boss fight. Not only it's a card game, but he also has this annoying ability to scatter all your cards around the arena, and you scramble to get them back to respond to his one-shot attack.
Have you forgotten Dustflulier from 358/2 days? He has a shit ton of health, a high Defense, attacks that are almost instanta kill. The best way to beat him is to follow a specific pattern that will bore you to death causing you to slip up and die and have to start all over again.
There isn’t one game that has all the kingdom heart games ever to be released is there? I would love to play them all over again.
Someone actually thinks grim reaper is bad? Now that is a hot take.
OK now that you’ve done the worst you have to do the best kingdom hearts, boss battles
I'd swap Grim Reaper with Anti-Black Coat, personally. The Grim Reaper isn't a great fight, but I can think of worse.
