UPDATE 9/7/24 Two things: First, a while back both Mobile and coded were found and uploaded online! And turns out, Mobile is actually playable in an emulator! Right now!! I won't include direct links for obvious reasons, but gosh there sure are ways to play games! coded is not currently playable unfortunately, but I'll update here if that ever changes. Second, bad news: the Kingdom Hearts Union χ Dark Road app has been removed from "sale" on both the Apple and Google Play stores. Unsure how it works with Apple, but the Google Play page pretends not to exist unless you've already downloaded the game before. This means Dark Road specifically will be harder to play; luckily, as with Mobile, gosh there sure are ways to play games! On an unrelated note please do not break the law it is illegal to break the law my lawyer says you would be bad if you broke the law UPDATE 5/15/24: Turns out there's a major major major major mistake! It appears there isn't actually credible evidence Kingdom Hearts V Cast released in Japan, at all, and actually released a few months later. Meaning, it's the *third* Kingdom Hearts game, after Chain of Memories. --------------------------------- The Current Play Order Sheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vSFqq-F9ypDkXpQP5VilDoQOnmlAv8V1GWauVaAjK5UDksib3M3GPnlJIdkLOSC5y2zgToO0foaJWhX/pubhtml An important note, there was a major mistake in the video near the end regarding the ordering of Union; the spreadsheet is corrected.
Gamechamp you forgot to mention you have to read almost every single piece of mythology, almost every bit of religious text and all of stephen hawkings scientific papers as required reading material to understand the shin megami tensei series. This includes decyphering ancient texts that haven't been translated yet just in case they contain relevant information. Actually since the persona games include history lectures you also have to brush up on your history to. Oh and thanks to blazblue crosstag battle including persona characters you also have to play every single blazblue game, senran kagura game, arcana heart game, akatsuki blitzkampf, under night-in birth and watch RWBY. And since RWBY had a crossover with DC you need to read every DC comic. And every marvel comic since they have crossed over to. Oh and since death battle and RWBY were both owned by rooster teeth when death battle made the episodes featuring the RWBY characters and the battle of tifa vs yang was partially and ad for the 3rd season of RWB you have to watch every single death battle episode. Thankfully you've probably gotten a lot of the required reading material for at least some of the death battle contestants done by this point but that doesn't mean you can slack off on the rest so you have to read dragon ball (+z and super) and listen to every single justin bieber song released before the episode featuring him and friday by Rebecca black. Also also since they use links smash bros gear for his first battle vs cloud you do have to play smash bros after all. Only n64, melee and brawl though. So you don't have to play the one that has Sora in it. Honestly can't believe you didn't mention them.
You put the Final Fantasy VII spinoffs before BBS as prerequisites, but technically Cloud and Tifa’s Advent Children outfits appear in Kingdom Hearts 2, so maybe they should be prerequisites to KH2 instead? At least Advent Children specifically LMAO I also wonder if you should put Versus XIII Trailers as a prerequisite for ReMind… or just versus xiii, as “lost media” as a cancelled game
If we are strictly academic about it, a “true play order” of kingdom hearts would require not playing a single game in the series until you’ve gone through every single final fantasy game referenced and have watched every single Disney movie that appears in the story. If you fail to do so you will not be aware of plot critical lore and get confused when a hitherto unmentioned naked man and his gorilla friends show up. Edit: posted this 3 days before the premier, this is crazy.
As the rules state, this play order is a *play order*, meaning it doesn't include auxiliary content from things like the manga or hotels, but there's a very odd and quick little addition you can make to your play through if you want! On August 11th, 2016, Kingdom Hearts Concert -First Breath- was performed for the first time. It was of course an orchestral event but was billed to include the voice actors of Terra and Naminé at the performance. What wasn't informed in advanced was that it would include a fully voiced dialogue scene spoken in character between the two of them that has been deemed canon by route of word of god thanks to Nomura himself. The transcript isn't long, I'm not sure if there's a recording of it but it's quick to read, and it's deemed canonical in relation to Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep A fragmentary passage. If you want to add a little quick non-game engine rendered detour to your run, you can look up that quick little passage and through it in either release order (it'd go in between 16.99 and 16.991 in the list) or just read it before or after you finish Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep A fragmentary passage.
@@VSiFer Yep, that's in World Tour, but unlike in First Breath's case unless there's a full length video of the entire performance there's no transcript online as far as a brief google search brings me. There might be one in the Orchestra guide you could get during the performance, as that's also where a transcript of First Breath's dialogue is, but the wiki doesn't have anything new for World Tour transcript wise, it just says that there were canon conversations that were shown but doesn't actually provide a transcript for said conversations or where they become relevant in the timeline.
Nah gamechamp forgot to mention you have to read basically every single piece of mythology, folklore, religious text and piece of text stephen hawking has written as required reading material to understand shin megami tensei. Massive oversight to leave that out
@@appelofdoom8211 And, if you aren't going willing to read any religious texts, the quote "Even if there is no god or buddha, there is Kamen Rider" applies here. You have to watch ALL of Kamen Rider. Ichigo, Nigo, V3, Riderman, etc., including ALL spinoff materials, which includes watching all of Super Sentai and Ultraman with Kamen Rider vs. Ultraman and the Super Hero Taisen movies. Wait, there's more. Gigabash also has crossovers with Ultraman, meaning that you HAVE to play that game, and it ALSO includes a Godzilla crossover. You have to watch EVERY Godzilla movie. The original all the way to Shin Godzilla. If that's not enough, Ultraman was also in the Super Robot Wars franchise, meaning you have to play those games, watch all the series that comprise them, and- OH WAIT, YOU HAVE TO PLAY EVERY YAKUZA GAME, EVERY DMC GAME, AND WATCH EVERY SEGA SATURN COMMERCIAL, BECAUSE SRW IS IN PROJECT X ZONE. AND YOU HAVE TO SPECIFICALLY PLAY FROM 0 TO DEAD SOULS, BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY GAME THAT CANONICALLY GIVES KIRYU A GUN, WHICH HE HAS IN PXZ.
@@appelofdoom8211 well another one on the list of supplementary material due to that damned rhythm game is One Piece, in order to understand One Piece you gotta read Mencius's book titled Mencius because in Chapter 1096 (which isn't even released in the anime yet), Bartholomew Kuma who is based on Bartholomew Roberts chooses the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi (Literally a bear paw fruit) over the Uo Uo no Mi (The fish fish fruit) which references the metaphor of picking righteousness over death with the same examples which is in the aforementioned Mencius. And before any of that you gotta consume every piece of media that has ever been put out because Eiichiro Oda is a MADMAN who references every single piece of media ever put out by mankind and also you gotta read Oda's one-shot manga Monsters because Ryuma is also a character in One Piece. a minor oversight, it's just a few thousand chapters and uh probably everything because everything is derivative and nothing is wholly original without influence
@@PEARLSTOTHEPLAYERS also because persona was in blazblue crosstag battle along with RWBY you now have to watch RWBY and since RWBY had a crossover with the justice league you now have to read every single DC comic in existence.
Insightful video! My only critique is you forgot to mention the point I should watch a cell phone recording of the Kingdom Hearts Concert -First Breath-. As I’m sure you remember now, this included the spoken conversation between Lingering William and Naminé regarding Terra’s soon encounter with Aqua. As all of the tracks at this concert are from the Kingdom Hearts series, this is an extension of the game’s theatre mode and cannot be ignored.
The Lingering Will speaking is actually a mistranslation, the official transcript says the conversation is between *Terra* and Naminé. But yes, we love technically-canon lore exclusive to Japan-only concert intermissions
This has convinced me to experience the Kingdom Hearts series in a brand new play order where you play chain of memories and then none of the other games ever
Im playing through the games with my girl she never has before and we beat 1 and got to OG chain of memories and she is obsessed and prefers it to kh1 🤣
this is unironically how ive experienced the series because i found and emulated chain of memories when i was like 7 years old and then by the time i found out there was a whole series i just could not be bothered to play all of those games
I was talking to a non-gamer friend about this and I had to do a mental reset when he said "Yeah, to play kingdom hearts 3 I'd have to play kingdom hearts 1 and 2, and that just seems like too much."
When you started talking about X and Union X and Unchained X, I knew how fucking correct you were. When I was showing the Kingdom Hearts series to a friend of mine, while not to the same extent, I did start pausing the cutscene compilations and breaking out the whiteboard. 10/10 video!
but wait - if you want to watch disney's hercules, you must read the prerequisite material that the story is based on. enjoy legally purchasing and reading all of Homer, Ovid and Virgil before you can even think about playing kingdom hearts
In a strange twist of Fate, Disney's Hercules is actually non-cannon to Heracles, The classic Greek tale that was also featured in the Epic accredited to Homer. So you can actually skip that prerequisite material. (But almost none of the rest of Disney canon)
Before you start birth by sleep, you have to live for a year in a European castle to understand the importance of the stylistic choices behind the architecture. Before KH1 you have to spend atleast a week with thieves in the Arabic world in order to understand alladins struggle. Also helps to kiss a princess somewhere along the way. Of course this a no brainer we all agreed upon years ago, but of course you have to become a heart surgeon. I feel a bit silly for even mentioning something that obvious.
Sorry but unfortunately most of the actual originating material is lost media. All that you're suggesting is adaptations of adaptations of adaptations. Hell, Hercules could've been based on a real neolithic chief and centuries of evolution in the stories got to the "modern" version of the story set in mycenaean Greece.
358/2 Days being XIII is just a testament to the fact that this timeline is both a. divine and intentional and b. proof that the entirety of the heartsverse is seamlessly and flawlessly crafted in on itself to make every part of it not only important, but necessary
Also, the KH3, the game in which Xehanort finally was able to clash the 7 lights with the 13 darknesses to summon Kingdom Hearts, is the number 20. Nomura is a genius.
@@VSiFerI want to say "Gamechamp is e-girl Nomura" but I don't actually know enough about internet culture to know if that joke would be considered offensive. So instead I am explaining the joke instead of saying it to assuage the plausible guilt
Something I noticed with the Shin Megami Tensei requirement. The series features a lot of creatures, gods, deities and demons from a lot of religions, some not even appearing in the religion's respective reading material. This would require you to devote your life to each religion at least once to completely understand the references. In addition to this, there are plenty of Yo-Kai and urban legends that aren't tied to a religion. While it's definitely possible to encounter all of them, most players wouldn't be dedicated enough to track them down. A workaround is experiencing them through the Yo-Kai Watch series, which provides a clear index explaining their existence. Of course, Yo-Kai Watch didn't just magically appear into existence, it was released through different games, meaning the series is technically an episodic release. Persona also relies on a lot of Japan specific references. Through this, I've devised a pretty simple order to experience all of these. So first in your current lifetime, convert to a religion that has reincarnation as a major element, let's just say Hinduism for example. This would provide insurance, both so you can devote multiple lives to different religions but also as a convenience to let you play more Kingdom Hearts. Of course this would have to happen before playing Final Fantasy so you can have the maximum amount of time. Die while converted and try your best to reincarnate into somebody born in Japan in 1998. This would put you at the ripe age to experience Yo-Kai Watch and also experience Japan around the time Persona 1-5 were created. This is the life you'll play Persona and Yo-Kai Watch in. After you play those games, you want to die 3 times and convert to Christianity, Islam and Judaism (You'll need to be reincarnated as a Jewish person for this step). Finally, you'll want to reincarnate to Buddhism. I saved this step for last because it has the biggest time investment and it'll also be the life you'll experience SMT and more importantly, the rest of Kingdom Hearts with. Overall, it's not the hardest barrier to entry and won't take you too long if you know what you're doing.
@@philiphunt-bull5817 My guess would be one that is based on multiple religions, one of which is incompatible with Buddhism, so you can't devote one lifetime to each.
Uh, you do realize adding this would require you to add literally every single peice of media to ever exist to our current knowledge... *ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT*
this is one of my favorite videos on youtube. I have never played a single Kingdom Hearts game, and when I have time to sit down and spend a year of my life on a single game franchise, this list will be heavily inquired by me. thank you for this genuine work of art
This was not an April fools bit, it was quite a few days after. They were serious at the end when they said that this isn't a joke, the timeline gets a bit chaotic, but this isn't a bit.
If this is chronological, then my favourite bit will be when you have to play 358/2 and Chain of Memories both 1 handed at the same time for a bit. *Edit for those coming after: I made this comment before the video was released.
Actually, playing Chess is also required reading since they play chess. To play chess, required reading is the 6th century game chaturanga which chess was based on. Additionally, since rules were released episodically you need to play multiple versions of chess with slightly different rules (e.g. without en passant)
You also have to acquire google so you can get all the transcripts of the alphazero training data to further your understanding of chess to an acceptable level.
Truly, this is the most definitive, well researched, comprehensive and truly correct order to play Kingdom Hearts ever devised. It's also completely insane and I would never dare force my friends to jump through all the necessary hoops to follow it, but that's besides the point. Good job Champ you madwoman.
I wish I could mail you a photo of my face when you dropped rule 4 and I suddenly understood that you expect me to watch Disney Three Musketeers for my Kingdom Hearts superplaythrough
This made me think about which Disney movies/shorts relevant to KH I haven't seen yet. Off the top of my head Aladdin 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Bambi, and Runaway Brain.
Fun fact. There's two Fate musou games. Which means the entire Fate franchise is prerequisite reading material. Good luck playing the multiple 100+ hour visual novels, countless manga, several anime, numerous videogames and the mobile gacha game just to play the spinoff of the series that has a spinoff thats required to play to understand the series that spawned the epilogue to Kingdom Hearts 3
@bestaround3323 just gotta follow that other comment that said since you need to understand religion and mythology anyways, you just need to convert to a religion with reincarnation as one of its beliefs
Ah, no, luckily we were spared *this*, because Fate/Extella and its sequel, Fate/Extella Link are not games developed by Omega Force, nor games published by Koei Tecmo, and thus do not belong in the Omega Force Musou game series canon.
@EOCB As far as I was aware, the Fate series includes everything Fate including non-canon stuff, making it canon cuz Nasu is insane. At least that's how I understand it
Pre Video Launch: Oh boy. I just bought the All in One Bundle. I hope this makes it easier for someone who hasn't played the series yet. Post Video: Oh God.
I've been looking forward to this one since you started teasing it! I think that your videos were a validation for my release-order-only obsession much to the pain of my friends who just want me to play the third game in a franchise they love. As someone who has tried (with much less effort than you mind you) to do the same thing I wholly anticipated some breaking up of games mid-way and starting with others, but anticipated it more with cameo fights and new versions of games and less with games that I had no idea released episodically! I honestly thought your list was pretty tame and agreeable. I expected this to be an over the top joke going in to it with playing every version of every game on every difficulty or something, but I genuinely wish I could have experienced things this way too. I love the inclusion of FF, Disney and TWEWY as they are so integral to the experience of KH, love the idea of watching a Disney movie right before you play the world. The suggestions for people to play specific versions of specific games without demanding every single FM and original really rings true with the ones I have played. GBA Chain is so crucial to me personally after having skipped it over for years out of a dumb kid assumption that it was either the exact same (or similar) but on a cramped GameBoy. I would love to try out all the other (lost media) versions of games I didn't get a chance to play. I learned a ton about the history of the mobile entries that I skipped, and even some games that I played like 358, Coded and BBS being announced at once. The spoiler section... I had no idea... And now I am EVEN MORE jealous of Japanese super fans that got to experience everything as it came out. I didn't understand or retain any of the stuff I did see from those games so I will have to give your order a go when I have infinite free time. The rant near the end perfectly sums up how I feel with this obsession. There's always some new awesome thing that feeds from or into some other game/franchise/whatever else that you've never heard of before and you get to try something new just to see the lineage of it all. Kingdom Hearts rules for that exact reason as do a bunch of the other franchises that link to KH even just tangentially.
@SirJorb Well, because SMT had a cross over with the devil may cry. There is a connection to MGS. See the creator of DMC 1 went on to create the company Platinum Games. They did the gameplay for mgs revengence. As such, it's important you play all of mgs to understand kingdom hearts
And... I'm surprised that the Mario series isn't getting mentioned here. Link's Awakening had references to Mario and Kirby and others, which also makes the Kirby series relevant, and due to the smash ability and Master Hand and Crazy hand playing active roles in Amazing Mirror, this just reverses the decision regarding the relevance of the Super Smash Bros. series...
Story of every KH fans life "why the fuck is the sequel to Kingdom Hearts on the GBA?" "Why the fuck are the next three sequels to Kingdom Hearts 2 on PSP, DS and a Japanese PHONE???"
Oh, if you've been skipping the phone games because they're phone games, OH BOY let me tell you there's quite a lot of plot twists VERY PERTINENT to the overarching story, moreso than you can even imagine, this is not a joke! Seriously, as someone who considers himself to have a pretty solid understanding of the lore, i was honestly floored when i saw some of the cutscenes, and I'm willing to bet you will be too! Personally speaking, my preferred way to experience union χ and dark road are the fandubs made by "damo279" (as much as I'd love to throw you the links, for whatever reason I've been having trouble with my comments dissappearing, so I'm doing a hail mary and hoping the problem is me putting a link in it. Incidentally, if this comment appears twice, it is because i posted it before the first one appeared in any way i could see lol). Anyways, sorry for the inconvenience, hope ya enjoy the fandub!
started this video going "ha ha, great parody" and ended with a full salute. this is the first I've heard of the VR experience, I may claim to be a KH fan, but I am like an ant before your power and strength.
Literally nobody is going to see this, but I just want to say that Miss Gamechamp's voice is so distinct that after watching one of her videos I hear everything I read narrated in her voice for about an hour or so. I am completely serious.
For the True Canonical KH X experience, you must micro-dose Gamerchamp videos so that all the text dialogue will be read in her voice, as she's the canonical main character of KH X-Chi + Unchained X + Union X. It just makes sense
I have never watched a video that makes me scream "FUCK YOU" every 2 minutes, each time with growing incredulous joy, quite like this one has, well done!
Finally someone who was brave enough to properly order the episodically released games as frighteningly real life timeline accurate as possible. I can finally loosely attempt to recreate the experience of being a Japanese child who bought Original Kingdom Hearts in 2002 that was actually Final Mix pulled from slightly in the future, And religiously followed the series from there in every bit and piece released in any capacity. Of course I just have all the games on Playstation 5 and smart phone to watch the dubbed and edited together movies of the mobile games, I’m sure buying a few DS games on top of that and personally begging G-Mode to port og Coded won’t be too hard.
I mean, if you're *really* dedicated you should play the part of a Japanese kid who bought the original on release date and also played all the rereleases and read/listened to/watched/slept with/ate all the ancillary stuff and also do that for everything it references. And don't forget the time travel needed to see the original Main Street Electrical Parade! And really you should start at the beginning of the release order of predecessors so... how do you feel about experiencing all of human history prior to Kingdom Hearts?
And before watching Hercules, you must read *all* major literature on Greek Mythology. If it doesn't sufficiently bother you that they call Hercules by his roman name, but every other God by their Greek names, then you haven't read enough
@@kev1nno of course given how mythology develops, 99.9% lowball of media that are the basis for the versions of the figures we have now has been lost. You don't mind spending the rest of your life trying to recover each version of the Heracles story right?
39:15 Important to note that if you're going to play every Fire Emblem you're actually required to visit a Japanese 7/11 shop because Fire Emblem Echoes Shadows of Valentia had a japan-only 7/11 collaboration which gave you unique items and introduced a new NPC
"Gosh I'm getting into the KH series but I don't wanna miss super important beats, maybe I should follow her list" *mentions TWEWY as a KH game after RECOM* "maybe not"
I just got to the part where you tell us to play The World Ends With You, and I 100 percent agree that the World Ends With You is a Kingdom Hearts game. Hearing that music in the video made me very happy.
One minor correction/addition about the spiral of madness you enter at the end. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy isn't actually a Final Fantasy spin-off series. It is a spin-off of the Final Fantasy Dissidia series, itself a spin-off series taking place in a parallel universe to FF1 and connected to the timeline of that game. When you previously said to play all Final Fantasy games, you didn't specify that FF spin-offs would be included. But as required reading for Theatrhythm, Dissidia adds another 3 console games, one of which is a "remake" of a Japan-only arcade cabinet. This doesn't affect the rest of the sequence, only adds to it slightly. Or requires elaboration on what is referred to by "all Final Fantasy games."
One of my favorite game series was brought up in this video and I couldn't even appreciate it because I was too busy gaping in horror at the Kingdom Hearts Play Order.
I still can't process how every video ms. gamerchamp makes is objectively the best video I have ever watched in my life every time they are released I have never cared about Kingdom Hearts and will probably not play any of the games, but this was still an EXTREMELY funny video, there wasn't a single second I was not entertained. And it was a PLAY ORDER LIST. FOR 47 MINUTES.
i think you missed a crucial detail about smash brothers. you see, the reason why mario called sora over to the smash brothers universe is because he's the only one who can truly defeat galeem and darkhon, for galeem is a nobody and darkhon is a heartless.
But Tabuu exists as a spirit that has been stuffed inside some Smash Ultimate character in World of Light. What sort of shenanigans make Tabuu and Galeem/Dharkon exist at the same time? There is no time travel. There are no puppets you can transfer souls into even given that is the point of World of Light and Tabuu does not exist by Smash Ultimate because it was defeated in some weird world separate from the real world and World of Light’s worlds. Tabuu isn’t even officially split into Galeem and Dharkon.
I'm going to discuss the plot twist spoiler, so some blank lines: - Given that the games were released episodically and concurrently, I think it's quite likely that the plot twist that makes it relevant was conceptualized and developed after initial marketing for the remake. So, given you know the plot twist exists, it should be sufficient to play the remake up to the point that development decision was made, and at that point start playing the original. Since you're already acquiring Sqare Enix to be able to play the original you might be able to find out when that decision was made
@@cad97At the end of the story of the original game, an organization that a group of main characters are a part of escape a world ending war by entering a digital simulation of the real world. The original game basically ends in a somewhat happy ending as they enter the simulated world and escape death. (The player doesn't know they are entering a simulation at this point but know they survived) In the secret sequel that at first sight seems like a mobile port of the original... the same plot, events, cutscenes are happening word for word. This is because the leaders of that organization wiped the memories of everyone so they wouldn't have PTSD from the war. Obviously the player would have no clue. It's only really late in the new version where you start seeing the story diverge. Everyone in the story will talk about how a war is supposed to happen but then it actually won't happen and events will completely diverge. This is what the plot twist is about. If you only played the new version without knowledge of the OG the fact that the war doesn't happen won't seem like that big of a deal or the twist that it's all a simulation later won't register as hard. In a way you need to be tricked into experiencing the story twice to truly understand what the fuck is happening and enjoy the plot twists. Otherwise it feels like they are pulling stuff out of their ass when it's actually well thought out and mobile only players just don't have the context to appreciate it.

I was just about to go to bed when this video premiered, but I decided to give myself a little peek to know just what I would be getting into the next morning. Upon entering and immediately seeing her list The World Ends With You completely unironically, I knew I was in for a good watch.
The kicker about having to play all of Fire Emblem is that Fire Emblem has directly acknowledged Smash Bros, with the Robin amiibo unit in Fates saying that he was just in a battle where he was launching fighters and they were launching him, and Fire Emblem Heroes directly quotes Byleth's reveal trailer in a Forging Bonds event. Meaning you not only have to play Smash 4 before going into Fates, you also have to play all franchises represented in Super Smash Bros. And the fact that owning Melody of Memory unlocks a song in Smash Ultimate doesn't help that order.
And Ryu also appears in Fortnite. And Fortnite connects to *A lot of things.* This eventually leads into watching family guy to understand kingdom hearts.

I'm very glad you brought up that spoiler section because I found out about it in ONE video of the many "Watch this before playing KH3" videos before KH3's release and no one else brought it up despite being kind of important as to why certain characters act the way they did.
So basically, if you want to understand the 40-hour Disney/Square Enix advertisements dressed up as video games, you first have to understand the entire history of human storytelling. Cool, seems doable.
I love that this list is not "how to play kingdom hearts to understand the narrative arc" but "how to play kingdom hearts and understand the narrative, gameplay mechanics, and artistic progression of the franchise" this is the definitive list
This may be one of my favorite videos you've ever done, excellent job! My big takeaway is that Tokyo Mirage Sessions is secretly reading material for playing the Kingdom Hearts series. A surprise, but a welcome one. Also, if anything, I feel that at least Sora's Classic Mode route could be considered a play order release
And the yakuza games feature various toy cameos of other sega characters. This eventually spirals into *nearly every single sega game being required reading material for the kingdom hearts series.*
Shin megami tensei had a Dante cameo so devil may cry gets added to the list, devil may cry was supposed to be resident evil 4 originally so Resi is part of that now as well. Since sora is in smash you already have a good number of games to go through anyway.
ACTUALLY You can't play KH3 all the way through until you complete Union X all the way through because an important ending plot twist in KH3 completely relies on you to play through the whole Union X campaign while simultaneously knowing that there was a promotion to include the names of numerous active players of the game as important Kingdom Hearts lore.
Correction: not ALL the way through. Union X was still not technically completely finished when KH3 released, and arguably the Union X finale spoils KH3. You just have to play through MOST of Union X before KH3 for the necessary context
Wasn't there a 7 Eleven-themed Keyblade too? Do we need to travel to Japan and back in time so that we can get the preorder code to get the true authentic experience? 🙃
@@JG0NEYou don't need to go back in time. You just need to buy the company that owns seven eleven and re-release the codes. Shouldn't be a problem since you have to buy square Enix anyway so that is some good passive income. I just wonder, is there a official KH Twitter page? And did they ever deleted a tweet that might become important later? We might have to unintentionally create a monopoly here.
You heard of jan misali? He tried to determine how many games were in the Mario series, and is crowd-sourcing help for the 2.0 version of the video. The level of semantics and categorization is similar to this, and its one hell of a rabbit hole
Strictly speaking, I think this video qualifies as Kingdom Hearts fanfiction, so you're not allowed to watch it until after you've played every Kingdom Hearts game mentioned
Champ, I have to say it was a wonderfully good thing to hear that you emphasized that gameplay and gameplay progression is another thing to consider for a list like this, and that games that are hard to get still belong on this sort of list. With the way videogame preservation is nowadays it is good to hear those sorts of comments on why some games matter, even if they might seem like they don't.
"You are now caught up to this video's release date, and are now ready to play Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, releasing later this year" your optimism continues to inspire me ms gamerchamp
I really like this video! I learned about a few things here, like the pre-install episodes of coded. It’s interesting to think about what it means to be a Kingdom Hearts game and which games help people understand the story and the evolution of the gameplay. Personally, I am not going to tell my aunt who has never played a Kingdom Hearts game before that she has to emulate an unplayable mobile game if she wants to get into this series. There is this one channel I watched where a man nearly quit playing the series because he, at his viewers' request, watched all the unvoiced cutscenes in χ, unchained χ, and Union Χ before playing KH3. And how many times have people asked if they can skip Re:CoM after playing like two card-based battles? When I think about how a person can get an enjoyable experience out of this video game series, I think it's fine to skip certain entries or at least return to them later. That's kind of been my journey with KH - I played Dream Drop Distance on 3DS FIRST because that was the most accessible game to me at the time. I would not recommend a new player start there now, but it was what worked for me at the time. Sometimes things don't go as neatly as they could, and that's okay. I'd still like to play CoM on the GBA someday! I'd also love to play the Japanese PS2 games and BbS FM on the PSP. I'm also cool skipping whatever gacha nonsense will surely be in Missing-Link. I know what I like and dislike by now. But mad respect to anyone who plays all these games/watches all these movies in spreadsheet order!
@@thomasffrench3639 to my understanding, Final Fantasy 1-5 has no mention in Kingdom Hearts. Above are all the FF games that either have character representation or that are referenced in game. Could have missed a few though
I've also seen people argue that Garland from Final Fantasy 9 is the same Garland found in Final Fantasy 1, which would make 1 required reading before playing 9 (I think his character is simply an homage to FF1 Garland, however, I could be wrong.) (Plus, if the theatrhythm games are required reading for Melody of Memories due to MoM being a gameplay sequel to theatrhythm then that would make the other Final Fantasy games required reading in the same sense whether or not they are ever referenced in Kingdom Hearts. Just like all the musou games become required reader once you hit the first musou title.)
The sheer whiplash I got when I realized that ZEEBO EMULATOR is how you can play the Kingdom Hearts Vcast. Truly an almost Stop Skeletons from Fighting crossover. (I'm assuming Vcast was a Brew OS game?)
The craziest part is... I have played all of them. I even played the japanese final mix versions for PS2 and psp and unchained x for smartphones. Even emulated the japanese cellphones exclusive games. You young ones have it so easily. Back in the day we had to play KH x on browser in Japanese. Also, finally someone talked about the plot twist of unchained x.
You, ma'am are a madwoman and have built a Kingdom Hearts Dark Tower of madness. You play the part of the mistress kindly welcoming us in with your charms and promise of lost knowledge of kingdom hearts lore, knowing the madness that has consumed you and soon us. I have been shown a glimpse of the truth and must have knowledge of all things in order to properly enjoy Kingdom hearts as it was intended, luckily a homunculus in a flask outlined how to do this as part of the extended readings material. This is why I have been subbed for years, thank you for my ascension beyond humanity.
Just got to the part where she says playing TWEWY is required to play the entire Kingdom Hearts series and honestly? My only complaint is that she didn't take it far enough. Playing TWEWY should be a prerequisite for doing anything even vaguely adjacent to the idea of having a story. Day one of middle school language/literature and you're immediately assigned TWEWY as homework.
Great list, and im very happy to see someone else who remembers Dynasty Warriors: Gundam. It was one of my favourite games when i was younger, and very few people seem to know it even existed in the first place.
saying "no one deserves to have fun" within the 1st minute is perfect. thank you for getting across the proper tone for the average kingdom hearts experience
Okay, so I get that rule 4 is partially a joke, but it really does help to have experienced the movies that are adapted in the Kingdom Hearts game. There was one reviewer who I would watch on a regular basis and after enough people asked him to, he decided to play and review Kingdom Hearts 3. One of his biggest complaints was that he wasn't interested in the Disney worlds because he didn't have a connection to any of the movies or characters. So, for example, he didn't care about Baymax in KH3 because he hadn't seen Big Hero Six beforehand and the game just assumes that you've seen that movie.
Not even kidding, it took me like 3 seconds after you called it the "low depth edition" before I burst out laughing. Well done, ma'am. I salute thee. 😂
This order is inacurate because it doesn’t feature Damo 279’s incredible fandub of both Chi & Union Cross. This is THE way to experience those games now.
Personally, I believe the following to be the correct playorder: 1. Kingdom Hearts 3 - This has a lot of characters in it, and it's good to be introduced to everyone nice and early! 2. 358/2 Days - Following up mostly on Roxas, Xion and Axel who we met in KH3. This explains more of their backstory. 3. DDD - This will explain more about Riku, who was kind of mysterious in Days. 4. Kingdom Hearts 2 - Still more Roxas, which is good to get out of the way. Also explains what happened to most of the organization from Days. 5. Chain of Memories - Might as well follow up with the rest of Org XIII. 6. Melody of Memory - A good break in gameplay, but you really need to understand this story before continuing on 7. Dark Road - The perfect time to catch up on some background lore about Xehanort, before jumping right back into his story 8. Kingdom Hearts 1 - Yes, this was the first game to release, but you can't actually play it until you know Xehanorts story, as otherwise you won't understand who this Ansem guy is or what he's doing. 9. Final Fantasy VII - Follows up on Cloud & Sephiroth, who were important in KH1 & KH2. Note: Sephiroth, depsite having silvery white hair, is not actually a Xehanort yet. This will remain to be the case until KH6. 10. Birth by Sleep - It very much is now time to follow up on some of the other people from all the way back in KH3, like Ventus, Terra and Aqua 11. Union X - [The funny joke that connects this to the rest of this playorder has been discontinued and is no longer available] 12. 0.2 - The sexiest game in the franchise! (Mickey goes shirtless in this one!!!) 13. Re:coded - honestly I dont care about this games story. The game is good though. I assume KH4 will be somewhere in the middle
So, looking into this, it seems our first wall where this becomes literally impossible is V-cast as the 2nd chapter (Wonderland) is currently completely lost media. This is good, though, because that means we have a potential infinity inwhich do the potentially infinite required reading for Melody of Memories.
While I know it is considered required reading material and not a specific part of the play order, imagine having to read and/or watch One Piece in release order as well.
This is a genuinely very interesting video that revealed a lot of things I never knew about the kingdom hearts series but unfortunately all I can think about now is that a Kingdom Hearts Musou game would be peak
UPDATE 9/7/24
Two things: First, a while back both Mobile and coded were found and uploaded online!
On an unrelated note please do not break the law it is illegal to break the law my lawyer says you would be bad if you broke the law
UPDATE 5/15/24:
Turns out there's a major major major major mistake! It appears there isn't actually credible evidence Kingdom Hearts V Cast released in Japan, at all, and actually released a few months later. Meaning, it's the *third* Kingdom Hearts game, after Chain of Memories.

The Current Play Order Sheet:

An important note, there was a major mistake in the video near the end regarding the ordering of Union; the spreadsheet is corrected.
Awesome vid as always!
why is Neopets in that sheet? I don't think I saw it in the video
You really should have a chronological order imo
At least Advent Children specifically LMAO
I also wonder if you should put Versus XIII Trailers as a prerequisite for ReMind… or just versus xiii, as “lost media” as a cancelled game
Edit: posted this 3 days before the premier, this is crazy.
...you get a medal
Well damn, I guess you called it...
And oh baby that's just the START
The fact that you posted this before the video actually premiered and then were completely right absolutely brings me to live.

I think there's also a Xion's and/or a Kairi's letter in the second Kingdom Hearts Orchestra.
@@That_Emi_suffice all that to say that without a transcript we can’t truly ever experience the full kh experience, ever
This was a really great video, and I’d love to talk more about how I feel about it, but, you guessed it, this comment was released episodically
I'm super excited to see the next part of the comment and will be checking back
wheres the next episode
I'm super excited for episode 2
Three months later still waiting for episode 2
Mate, are you still cooking ep. 2?
I don't understand why people act like the Kingdom Hearts series is so complex and confusing, I find this video very straightforward
@@appelofdoom8211I do not comprehend
Nomura really said "let's hide some lore in a concert" and absolutely no one stopped him
glad someone brought this up, its very integral.
I've played KH for about 15 years now, and LINGERING WILLIAM is the single greatest thing I've seen so far
She doesn't bring it up because it's not a videogame
This has convinced me to experience the Kingdom Hearts series in a brand new play order where you play chain of memories and then none of the other games ever
me too lmao
Im playing through the games with my girl she never has before and we beat 1 and got to OG chain of memories and she is obsessed and prefers it to kh1 🤣
@@LOLPride ''My girl''? Disgusting. You dont own her.
this is unironically how ive experienced the series because i found and emulated chain of memories when i was like 7 years old and then by the time i found out there was a whole series i just could not be bothered to play all of those games
You forgot the story detail in the booklet for the board game
I was talking to a non-gamer friend about this and I had to do a mental reset when he said "Yeah, to play kingdom hearts 3 I'd have to play kingdom hearts 1 and 2, and that just seems like too much."
Man probably failed math as a kid😂
"you think that's too much?? YOU THINK THAT'S TOO MUCH??!??"
When you started talking about X and Union X and Unchained X, I knew how fucking correct you were. When I was showing the Kingdom Hearts series to a friend of mine, while not to the same extent, I did start pausing the cutscene compilations and breaking out the whiteboard. 10/10 video!
but wait - if you want to watch disney's hercules, you must read the prerequisite material that the story is based on. enjoy legally purchasing and reading all of Homer, Ovid and Virgil before you can even think about playing kingdom hearts
tbf it's not piracy if it's genuinely out of copyright lol
Thats the original. The translated versions are still under copywright laws@chocobofangirl
358/2 Days being XIII is just a testament to the fact that this timeline is both
a. divine and intentional and
b. proof that the entirety of the heartsverse is seamlessly and flawlessly crafted in on itself to make every part of it not only important, but necessary

I love this, but I'm now curious: what series do you think _does_ have the hardest barrier to entry?
@@philiphunt-bull5817 My guess would be one that is based on multiple religions, one of which is incompatible with Buddhism, so you can't devote one lifetime to each.
This supports my assertion that yokai watch is smt for kids, and conversely, smt is yokai watch for angsty teens
@@wowlookatthis.9433 if SMT is Yokai Watch for angsty teens, what is Persona then?

It's a good movie, you should watch it anyways

What about Runaway Brain?
But that means we also need to through the entire Nasu-verse, since Fate is just on of (I think?) 3 series in verse
I am not sure there is literally enough time in life to do all of the prerequisite material

Really thought I was gonna have to play all of Metal Gear for a second there
Me too, I was so curious to see the justification for why Metal Gear Solid is a Kingdom Hearts game
Link's Awakening had references to Mario and Kirby and others, which also makes the Kirby series relevant, and due to the smash ability and Master Hand and Crazy hand playing active roles in Amazing Mirror, this just reverses the decision regarding the relevance of the Super Smash Bros. series...
tbf you should play all the metal gear games anyways because theyre just good
Monster Hunter is a prerequisite for Final Fantasy XIV, and I have good news about what is a prerequisite for Monster Hunter!

The way I smiled from cheek to cheek at “I LOVE that.” near the end. HERE’S TO A MILLION MORE KINGDOM HEARTS SHENANIGANS FOR MANY YEARS TO COME!!!
Today I learned that I am actually very passionate about this subject, but I will reign in my thoughts to let Gamechamp share hers.
Literally nobody is going to see this, but I just want to say that Miss Gamechamp's voice is so distinct that after watching one of her videos I hear everything I read narrated in her voice for about an hour or so. I am completely serious.
Atleast 8 people saw this, congrats.
It's happening to me now, too. This is pretty neat, actually. Thank you.
For the True Canonical KH X experience, you must micro-dose Gamerchamp videos so that all the text dialogue will be read in her voice, as she's the canonical main character of KH X-Chi + Unchained X + Union X. It just makes sense
This happens to me too.
i didn't know anything about kingdom hearts before this video and now i'm afraid i know even less
10/10 video, another gamechamp banger
I have never watched a video that makes me scream "FUCK YOU" every 2 minutes, each time with growing incredulous joy, quite like this one has, well done!
You have to play "The Bouncer" as well. Because the game is referenced on Pence's shirt. You're welcome.
I love the part where she says "If you want to play all the Kingdom Heart games, you have to play all the Kingdom Hearts games"
But wait! Given the inspiration for Disney’s movies, you must also track down the original story’s versions from Europe or something!
39:15
Important to note that if you're going to play every Fire Emblem you're actually required to visit a Japanese 7/11 shop because Fire Emblem Echoes Shadows of Valentia had a japan-only 7/11 collaboration which gave you unique items and introduced a new NPC
Champ really went "to play Kingdom Hearts in the true play order, you must first invent the universe".
You forgot Einhander, the PS1 shmup that KH3 draws explicit attention to.
oh god, this is an ACTUAL mistake in the video!
It's in the Docs she sent, Einhänder, along with Final Fantasy Versus XIII as Prerequisites for KH 3
"Gosh I'm getting into the KH series but I don't wanna miss super important beats, maybe I should follow her list"
*mentions TWEWY as a KH game after RECOM*
"maybe not"
Except for outside stuff added to the list, if you're committed, this list is legit
update: upon request of a friend i'm playing TWEWY anyway before going into DDD, since apparently DDD spoils that game lol
@@NautyLust yeah it spoils a major twist
I like that in order to play the TWEWY series you have to play a lot of Kingdom Hearts stuff and their references.
Genuinely The World Ends With You is really good
I can’t wait for Gamechamp to inevitably explain why Melody of Memory should be first in the order.
Well it is basically a plot summary
I was wrong. But what actually happened was so much more insane, and so much better than I could have ever imagined.
Are we sure this entire video is not just a way for gamechamp to release all of her madness from her challenges over the years
I just got to the part where you tell us to play The World Ends With You, and I 100 percent agree that the World Ends With You is a Kingdom Hearts game. Hearing that music in the video made me very happy.
-Me: Looking at the video length, wondering when the insane shenanigans would begin.
-Miss Gamechamp: 4:35
This video should be included with every copy of KH media from now on. And I'm not even joking.
I still can't process how every video ms. gamerchamp makes is objectively the best video I have ever watched in my life every time they are released
I have never cared about Kingdom Hearts and will probably not play any of the games, but this was still an EXTREMELY funny video, there wasn't a single second I was not entertained. And it was a PLAY ORDER LIST. FOR 47 MINUTES.
i think you missed a crucial detail about smash brothers. you see, the reason why mario called sora over to the smash brothers universe is because he's the only one who can truly defeat galeem and darkhon, for galeem is a nobody and darkhon is a heartless.
they'll reference smash in KH4 and then he has to include it anyways
@@UnicornStormshe*
Goddamn you’re RIGHT!
They’re Tabu’s Heartless and Nobody!

I'm going to discuss the plot twist spoiler, so some blank lines:
-
Given that the games were released episodically and concurrently, I think it's quite likely that the plot twist that makes it relevant was conceptualized and developed after initial marketing for the remake. So, given you know the plot twist exists, it should be sufficient to play the remake up to the point that development decision was made, and at that point start playing the original. Since you're already acquiring Sqare Enix to be able to play the original you might be able to find out when that decision was made
Can you tell us what the plot twist is?
@@ChickenWrap3 I don't know any more than what was discussed in the video, sorry.
@@cad97At the end of the story of the original game, an organization that a group of main characters are a part of escape a world ending war by entering a digital simulation of the real world. The original game basically ends in a somewhat happy ending as they enter the simulated world and escape death. (The player doesn't know they are entering a simulation at this point but know they survived)
In the secret sequel that at first sight seems like a mobile port of the original... the same plot, events, cutscenes are happening word for word.
@@dooroflight4156I barely paid attention playing through Union χ Cross lol. So much content that it was hard to separate filler from valuable story content. The skip button wasn't helpful for making me invest in the story 😅
@@dooroflight4156not gonna lie, if this stuff becomes important in a later entry, they better make it widely available in some form. Idk make it a animated show or a remake or something. Just found out about the whole union X thing a few days ago and I'm still baffled why the no longer available mobile game has the biggest story in the franchise yet
And Fortnite connects to *A lot of things.*
This eventually leads into watching family guy to understand kingdom hearts.
I can’t wait to understand a lot of political jokes before getting into Kingdom Hearts proper!
This thread hurts my brain

@@zekromfuryWait, this is the description for sea salt ice? That means we also have to add the indie game "cross code" on the list since it has a ice cream consumable with that exact description and i just realized that it is a KH reference and therefore a kingdom hearts game.
Been actively playing the games in order and this video is so helpful! Thank u! ❤
I love that this list is not "how to play kingdom hearts to understand the narrative arc" but "how to play kingdom hearts and understand the narrative, gameplay mechanics, and artistic progression of the franchise" this is the definitive list
No one ever said this made the narrative any easier to understand
As a diehard fan, I can confirm that Gamechamp's order is the correct order
"If you already played all of Kingdom Hearts, you probably did it wrong"
Me playing every game at release: 👁👄👁
I’m definitely gonna call it “Buncha days” from now on
When you started talking about playing Coded in the episodic release order, I was filled with dreaded anticipation of X[CHI] and Union Cross.
About Fist of The North Star, it has a Yakuza spinoff game, you know what that means.
I didn't know that in order to prepare for Kingdom Hearts 4 I need to play Neopets: The Darkest Faerie.
To be honest that game is actually pretty good and a bit dark at times. Any more than this and I'm probably giving spoilers.
If we're doing that, we'd also have to play the Switch cloud version of KH3 just for the Advent Red Keyblade.

But mad respect to anyone who plays all these games/watches all these movies in spreadsheet order!
gotta love when the play order video is a compelling video game essay in disguise, I've never wanted to play kingdom hearts more than before
Totally agree Gamechamp that you have to play Final Fantasy 6,7, 8, 9, 10 and 13 before starting Kingdom Hearts. Glad someone finally said it 🙏
What about Final Fantasy 1-5? Those are essential entires in the series

(Plus, if the theatrhythm games are required reading for Melody of Memories due to MoM being a gameplay sequel to theatrhythm then that would make the other Final Fantasy games required reading in the same sense whether or not they are ever referenced in Kingdom Hearts.

This is educational policy I can get behind.

So, for example, he didn't care about Baymax in KH3 because he hadn't seen Big Hero Six beforehand and the game just assumes that you've seen that movie.
this video feels like a spiritual successor to the old "my goal in life is to play every video game that exists" gamechamp videos
“Wait, you’re telling me it’s all Musou games all the way down?”
Gamechamp: “Always has been.”
Not even kidding, it took me like 3 seconds after you called it the "low depth edition" before I burst out laughing. Well done, ma'am. I salute thee. 😂
This is the funniest mental breakdown i have ever seen
"But I decided not to be crazy today."
Miss Game Champ lied as naturally as she breathed.
This order is inacurate because it doesn’t feature Damo 279’s incredible fandub of both Chi & Union Cross.
This is THE way to experience those games now.
Personally, I believe the following to be the correct playorder:
6. Melody of Memory - A good break in gameplay, but you really need to understand this story before continuing on
7. Dark Road - The perfect time to catch up on some background lore about Xehanort, before jumping right back into his story
10. Birth by Sleep - It very much is now time to follow up on some of the other people from all the way back in KH3, like Ventus, Terra and Aqua
11. Union X - [The funny joke that connects this to the rest of this playorder has been discontinued and is no longer available]
12. 0.2 - The sexiest game in the franchise! (Mickey goes shirtless in this one!!!)
13. Re:coded - honestly I dont care about this games story. The game is good though.

So, looking into this, it seems our first wall where this becomes literally impossible is V-cast as the 2nd chapter (Wonderland) is currently completely lost media.
This is good, though, because that means we have a potential infinity inwhich do the potentially infinite required reading for Melody of Memories.
i know you specifically said that this isn't a joke but i still dont believe you
I'm pretty sure the "read One Piece" step takes as much time as every other thing mentioned here combined
While I know it is considered required reading material and not a specific part of the play order, imagine having to read and/or watch One Piece in release order as well.
