Big thanks to Corbin for the range use, Mk 12 fella, Henry from 9 hole reviews, Hgreg, Lenny, and finally safevest.org/ for providing the kevlar vest
I waited this so much papa Oxide is back :)
Thanks for ODST Reference Oh yea 🤣👍💪😀
Love it my dude
You have impressive friends
addd the music
Love the fact you put ODST music over the New footage of the Night vision equipment.
Yes ODST Is my fave Halo 😀😀😀
what soundtrack is that, cant seem to recognise it

I’ve personally seen two different guys in Iraq that took shots to the head to where the round penetrated, followed the contour of their head, and then exited the helmet (ACH). Both guys had nasty lacerations of the skin but nothing penetrated into the skull. (Both lived)
Admittedly, I do not know what they were hit with. Probably 7.62x39, possibly x54r. I’d be interested to see this test done with those rounds and with some facsimile of a head/skull.
Regardless, I love your channel ❤️
Might have to do a little small arms research to find out what they were using in Iraq.
Obviously the M855 used in this video was designed for this purpose.
Looking into the history of the M855, which itself is an FN SS109 equivalent _(adopted by NATO in 1979)_ might provide some useful data.
Those trials specifically involved firing at steel helmets at extended ranges.
It’s worth noting that the terminal ballistics of rounds like M855 have come into question, specifically because those trials optimized penetration over terminal effect on soft targets.
Well the terminal effects of the m855 becomes a problem when your firing it from a 14.5 inch barrel.
Since you're in touch with 9 Hole Henry, can you ask his cousin for a Dragunov?
He is probably busy with small business negotiations.
@@WaffleBomber Look at me cousin. I'm the captain now.
Or you could just use a mosin
the ODST music over the Augmented Reality footage was fucking amazing
New mombasa go brrrrt
Oxide be cultured man tho
Those helmets saved my life when a chuck of a blown up 240B hit my head. Had a massive chunk just stuck inside it. But I wish the Army could upgrade it
They are in the process of doing so
May I please ask why the M240B blew up???
@@laddicusprime1037 it looked like it wasn't clean properly so there was a fucking ton of residue in the barrel and it blew including cooking off the ammo box. It happened to my friend but I was close by and got hit by some shrapnel. Know warning anything, just a big boom and shit flying everywhere.

100mm tank shell on a ceramic plate when?
Fun fact, 100mm tank cannons are pretty much exclusive to russian tanks of the cold war era. Cant think of any non soviet tanks that use 100mm guns.
@@chost-059 some post war french tanks also used a 100mm guns, like the Lorraine 40t,amx 50 and the ca Lorraine.
@@aymanayad7230 oh yeah forgot about those, weird desing choices. Sticking with normal solid AP rounds while others were using APDS or HEATFS.
@@chost-059 I did not know they still used solid AP, but If they are not fired at the most modern armored vehicles, solid AP will still fuck up any light armored vehicles and still damage modern armored ones.
@@chost-059 Probably because they had them? France had just emerged as a battleground from WWII, so I presume some elements were done on a budget.
100mm is unusual for Western tank cannons, but has been used for decades up to that point (and decades since) on naval guns. And the shells were probably the same as those used on the naval guns, which had an AP shell for them.
Not unusual, given that a lot of tank cannons from that era were based on, or used the same ammunition as existing field guns, naval artillery, or anti-aircraft weapons. The US 3" M7 and 76mm M1 guns in WWII used identical shells albeit with different cases, the 3" directly coming from the 3" M1918 anti-aircraft gun, itself a modified US Navy cannon whose shells were in fact directly compatible with each other's, although using different cases. The German 88mm on the Tigers were based on anti-aircraft guns, and the 37mm on the FT was taken directly from a light trench cannon.
That ending statement: “pointless internet arguments” that on point. (Pun intended).
Most guys survive these headshots because frankly the human skull is extremely hard, so the velocity loss + deformation from the kevlar usually results in the round 'bouncing' off the human head, hence why there is usually a laceration still left on their head.
Needed something to waste time while waiting for my dentist appt, this did the trick

Hey Oxide, I've had a thought about making my own bastardized slap plate out of a titanium Sfera helmet. After seeing how well the ZSH performed with thin aluminum layer, I'd be interested in seeing the practicality of combining my LSHZ-2DTM helmet with the Sfera. Eventually when I get orders to head home from this deployment I'll work on seeing how much modification would be needed to combine the two. Being that you've tested both I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, and if the fitment works well enough and requires little machining I'd be more than happy to send over another titanium Sfera for testing with the remains of your Vulcan. Thanks for all the informative and entertaining videos you make and best regards.
hmm.... your idea seems very intresting would like to see it when you finish it.
Will you maybe upload a video when you finish it to your channel?
I too would love to see this masterpiece
@@AveragePTRD @anon Sure I could do that, Both the Sfera and the Vulcan are already at my house, I just need my relief to fly out so I can head home. I should be back state side by the end of July.
I’m interested as well!
@@zadamany9255 the plates fit well around the helmet, and can be easily attached to the face shield mounts. The helmet is already very heavy, especially with the aventail. They didn't give me a lot of time off this go around so maybe after my next deployment I'll be able to rig it all together.
dude, I absolutely love your videos! this content is expensive to make, and it is highly appreciated, keep it up tovarisch!
ODST FTW. A man of Culture
Amazing work Oxide!!! As always!!!

Knowing your gremlin gear sources Oxide I'm waiting now for the IHPS or ECH test. Interested to see how the 'next gen' will perform

@@Oxide_does_his_best I shall
Both are already commercially available iirc. At the very least I've seen the ECH on eBay, and some third party sites carry the IHPS, albeit at insane prices
The IHPS is just Avon’s F70 mid-cut btw. $1100 street price, I believe.
Will there be long range test with 7.62x54R or 7.62x39, it would be a good idea to test US helmets using theses calibers in combat these are used the most against these helmets
Theyll both go through as long as they have mild steel cores.
@@Oxide_does_his_best Not so sure about the 7.62x39, it loses velocity quickly at range and most rounds have a steel jacket but a lead core. Kind of surprised by this test since I remember hearing that at 400 or so helmets could stop rife fire. Great vid as always.
@@MrSnicker14 If the 762 round has a steel core it'll pen even subsonic. If it has a lead core it won't pen
@@MrSnicker14 Never seen lead core 7.62x39 in military service. Either mild steel, hardened steel, tungsten, and now tungsten-cobalt for the new AP round they are rumored to be making.

Good content as always! Thanks for getting this info out there.
Its time to start pointless arguments now that I'm armed with this info
It's amazing how you used to be a war thunder channel lol.
Here's a suggestion: even though you're into Russian stuff maybe try a few American helmets too, like a pasgt or mich and compare them with Russian ones. That'd be pretty neat to see.

Throw some ACH pads of your choosing into it and call it a day. It'll probably work better than the original liner
