BLDC Motor Test with Propeller on Skyrider One

  • First test of the 12 kW Motor of my Skyrider One ( • Skyrider One - Very Fi... ). The Propeller is not matching well, so the input power is too low. I have measured approx. 150 A at 52 V = 7.8 kW. A propeller with more pitch gives the full power of 12 kW. The complete test took more than 10 minutes and the motor stays cool.

    thanks for showing winding and hall sensor wiring. looks very good. What have you used for a motor controller? Just an ebike controller?

    Your work is terrific and I wish you every success! I do find it a bit funny that while your motor has hall sensors for temperature you measure with "Fingers 1.0" ;) Are you able to source a better matching propeller? Good luck on this project.

      Thx! Step by step. KTY-84 thermistor is about to come. And I have already found a better prop at Helix Propellers. This footage was taken before the maiden flight of my Skyrider One. I am now working on the next prototype.

    You are making a paraglider? paragliders are good for getting up in the air, not good for going somewhere.
    Try instead a super small glider shape with only room for a reclined single person. Short skinny wings for relatively high speed take off. Electric drive. Super cheap, really takes you places.
    Another very interesting config is an upright single seater of similar shape. Two electric props, take off vertical and tilts into level flight. Vtol, cheap, fast and decent range.

      Yes, there are a lot of different ways to get into the air. I always hoped to get some support from you, building all this flying machines ;-)

      me specifically? :) what kind of support? my input?
      if you need financial support, you could do crowd funding of an interesting project. Patreon or something else. Your videos have a lot of views. I think a nice vtol light personal craft could spark great enthusiasm.
      I think it could be done fairly simply. Fiber glass I beam with 3D printed wing profiles and draped in a single sheet of fiberglass. Straight skinny wing. 3D print a shell hull and drape it with fiberglass. It requires very little strength. 2 very strong electric motors with turbine props so it can take off at 1.2+g. Agile like a drone.

    Wonderful engineering! I've subscribed to your channel. Good video production, although I'd vote to avoid the music background entirely -- you don't need it, and it's hard to modulate the volume between your talking (which I like) and the inherently louder music (which doesn't enhance your content).

      Ok, I will think about it. Some of my tutorial videos are without music. On others, like the Skyrider videos, you would only hear the wind noise and maybe some propeller sound. Thats quite boring.

      forschungsbuero I disagree about the "boring" aspect -- I much prefer to hear the sound of wind and the propeller, since both give me relevant and significant information about what you're doing. If there was a risk of me getting "bored" watching your videos, it would be because your *content* was boring, and I wouldn't be watching it in the first place. Your videos have great content, and they easily keep my attention just as they are. If I want to hear music, I have plenty of devices which play the music I want to hear. Just keep making your great videos about the exciting stuff you're doing, and let us enjoy the sounds of motors, propellers, and your voice. Vielen Dank von einem alten Deutscher hier in der US!

    hi, welche Drehzahl hast du jetzt bei vollast? wenn du mir die sagen kannst könnte ich dir vorschläge zum prop machen welcher dann passt bzw. welchen schub liefert. ( ich will dir nix verkaufen ) hab die letzten jahre einiges am prüftstand gehabt und testgeflogen. lg

      Ja, danke. Hab inzwischen schon den passenden Prop bei Helix gefunden. Drehzahl hab ich bei dem Test leider nicht gemessen.

      ah ok. dann passt es ja. nur tip: probier mal einen e prop der etwa die hälfte wiegt und leiser ist bei mehr eta.
