It makes a lot more sense if you consider "alpha" to be just an early stage of development, like in video games. The "kiss your husband" patch has indeed not been installed yet. Ok so back in 2009, 2010 I was in the College Republicans at my university (big cringe, I know. I'm 31 now and have grown A LOT since then). This dude showed up at some local Republican events and most of the young people thought he was SUPER cringe. But some of the old people loved him for some inexplicable reason. This enabled the government to imprison and interrogate people (including their own citizens and legal immigrants) for years without official charges, evidence, or a trial - they stripped people of their human rights for even being suspected of knowing people that may have once met a 5th cousin of a person who 'might' have been terrorist.
I'm not defending terrorism. The problem was the danger people were in that even looked remotely 'middle eastern'.
