I don't understand the argument of, "If he was guilty he wouldn't still have followers". Hollywood has shown time and time again that that's just not true.
I’ve seen that from people, and that type of thinking, really boils my blood. Like seriously! So many celebrities have gotten away with the bullshit that they do. And it is a crime. If any of us normal people did half of what these celebrities were doing, we would probably be in jail for 15+ years.
I am so sick and tired of celebrities saying “Everyone makes mistakes! It’s only human!” Like yea, everyone does make mistakes. I made a mistake this week by forgetting to call my doctor to get my prescription refilled and now I’m gonna have to wait a few extra days to get it. His mistake was sending unsolicited nudes to minors. Let’s play spot the difference, shall we?
It's trying to convince people that all mistakes share moral equivalent. And since nobody is perfect, all the criticism is invalid, and the person critiquing you* should feel ashamed of themselves, and more importantly: stop talking about what you've done. *You as in, a person, not you directly

No. When you make a really horrible mistake, you have to literally prove with your actions that you intend to do better going forward. I love your example though! Because it’s true. They always say that we all made mistakes crap when it’s like a huge mistake that should be shunned.
@frankisnot1148 that's a great point. It makes me think of how in church, I was taught "all sins are equal in the eyes of God"....which I'm starting to suspect may have been taught for sinister reasons
Maybe I'm alone in thinking this, but I doubt it: we should value and judge intentions more. Some things are usually done after thinking about them. That's why premeditated assassinations have a harsher charge (can't remember proper legal terms atm). And we should welcome nuance in our lives, too.
I think regardless of sexuality if you have so much trouble finding love that you have to be creepy towards minors and people who aren't into you then maybe you're the problem.
He could easily have any gay man he wants; he's conventionally attractive and rich, and he lives in LA, an area with a huge LGBT population. He's purposely going after only boys because he's a creep.
And if the entirety of your efforts to get to know and court others fails in person and means you “have to” turn to online attention and can’t use the typical pathways there, it’s awfully suspicious in many ways. Grooming is the disgusting outcome, but the reality is that this is someone that people don’t get to know and see as a potential partner for their friends and loved ones. People don’t meet him and use the opportunity to get to know him more intimately unless it’s social climbing or parasocial. As an adult who was groomed and assaulted as a child, who has gone through so much therapy for abusive patterns coming from family and their ongoing issues, and who knows intimately how these things go - he’s not sending up red flags, he’s sending out jarring, massive flashing blue and red lights. This is an adult man that “has to” turn to forms of communication that adults use only sparingly in comparison to teenagers to get sexual attention? Creepy in ways that suggest why he’s unsafe to date overall.
Once his influence career finally goes up in flames, if he doesn't immediately get thrown into jail, he should definitely go into marketing and sales, because if he was able to get so many people to buy that shitty, chalky overpriced palette he truly had a talent for it lol
I was sexually taken advantage of by an older man on the internet when I was a young teen. He wasn't a celebrity, he was just someone I was friendly with, and I can't even describe the pressure I felt to stay in that relationship and the terror that came from finally leaving. I was in one of the worst mental spaces I'd ever expected. I cannot even imagine how I would have felt if that man was also a global celebrity. What James did was too horrible for words and it disgusts me that he's still out there "having friends over and playing Mario and mine craft" or what have you. He should be in jail. I'm so sorry to the survivors of his abuse, and I hope they're in a better place mentally and physically, and I hope that they have genuine, loving relationships with friends and family to fall back on for comfort and support. All of you young men are so strong and wonderful, and you deserve so much better. Be safe and be well.
@eclipsemoon2008 @charliethemcflurry thank you both very much. There are good and bad days for sure, but overall, I'm in a much better place now than I was then, and I have wonderful friends and siblings who have helped me.
The prison system is ineffective as a long term solution and doesn't help anyone, it makes my blood boil when people just toss it around like they know the best outcome. He should be forced to directly face the consequences of his actions, not locked up in some cell where the state will treat him like cattle.
People should be offered a chance for redemption; after all, aren't we all for prison reform/abolition? But he definitely doesn't deserve to be a millionaire/public figure anymore.
@@6MillionPesoManRehabilitation. But no, he's still doing the thing! It's definitely just excusing harmful behavior if you're not even requiring him to stop it before you advocate for letting him off the hook.
Framing the article as James talking about "fucking up and trying to move on" sounds less like he sexted minors and more like he made an oopsie. They shouldn't normalize his behavior by underplaying its severity. No matter how many times this happens with celebrities, I'm never going to accept it as okay or forgivable. James clearly doesn't take it seriously and never has.
I was going to say that he should check himself into a psychs office (I did similar shit when I was 18 with a 17 year old but took responsibility and cut contact after only a couple months), I decided to get help by self reporting and talking about my feelings and concerning behaviours with the relevant authorities. Difference is I don't see him doing any of that, I don't see him actively doing anything to combat or control his criminal behaviours, he does realise that attempts to control his behaviour will help him even if he ends up in court doesn't he?
James Charles is gross and I’m constantly disappointed with how easy it is for those who are “cancelled” to return to their platforms. Also his hair looks like shit in his apology video.
it's wild when people scream about "cancel culture" when so much of the time when someone gets cancelled it ends up just being them being in trouble for a bit then in a few months they just return like nothing happens, hell people like shane dawson have been "cancelled" multiple times but that cockroach refuses to die like,, i know very little content creators who have been "cancelled" that haven't managed to bounce back and yet people who cry "cancel culture" act like you have to walk on eggshells to avoid ending your career, when really you just have to not be a shitty person, and it sucks bc so many people don't deserve the audience they do also his hair looks like shit all the time, so there is that
Shane Dawson still has a platform, Jake Paul moved over to boxing and David Dobrik still has deals and has a massive platform even though he’s a predator as well with multiple victims.
I do however think it is a good way to refer to something happening that you are not informed about yet. It does have the benefit of maintaining the neutral tone to avoid judging and slandering someone who might end up being innocent. Here it is weird since it is now very clear he was guilty. Everything is clear now so this should not be reffered to as drama anymore this is ridiculous and minimizing what he did.
Again, it's about profit. His 23 million subscribers translates to millions of dollars a year for youtube and Google. They're not going to give that up over him being attracted to underage boys. Look at how fellow RUclips cash machine Brent Rivera molests his sister on camera and RUclips still won't take him down.
I've always hated "everybody fcks up" as an excuse bc NOT EVERBODY GROOMS MINORS. and its so easy not to. no one's perfect but that doesn't make everyone equally bad.
Everybody makes mistakes is usually a phrase you use when someone else like a child does something wrong. Like “Oh don’t worry about breaking a glass everyone makes mistakes” Not “oh I’m sorry I did weird things to children everyone makes mistakes”
If someone called me sister I think I'd wanna hit them 😂 idk why it just feels gross. Same with girlie or worse girliepop...idk it might be a gender thing or just an ick but it just rubs me the wrong way completely 😭
I was a high schooler in Albany at the same time as James Charles and even going to a Catholic school I can tell you that it is a complete lie that he felt like there was zero gay community aside from him. Albany is the damn capital of New York. He went to Bethlehem high school, which has 300+ students per grade. If there were other queer people in my measly class of 50, I promise you there were more in public school.
Even if it was true and if he's actually only used to talking to people online, there's plenty of spaces when he can do just that on a burner account. In a way that wouldn't get him "canceled."
The only thing more disgusting than this Cosmopolitan article is James Charles himself. He's still a free man living in a mansion bringing in millions of dollars via millions of views on all of his social medias, including RUclips. His channel is still up and monetized. He's coming out with a brand new makeup line that the article is blatantly advertising. He's playing the victim while changing none of the behavior that got him cancelled in the first place. He's still running wild in DMs and if he were truly going after age appropriate people, he wouldn't feel the need to ask for ID at all. He's a Groomer, a Predator, a Loser, and most of all, he is a Criminal that got away with it. BYE SISTER.
im not defending him but there are some people, me included, who are of age but still look to be under 18 so asking for ID is fair enough even if he has no right to. I do hope he rots in jail, as unlikely as it would be though.
It is so disappointing that he will not receive any actual punishment legally as he is too rich to be thrown in jail. What he did was a crime and its downright condescending to everyone and his victims that hes "just so sad bc he cant do things to earn more money". If that's not a victim complex idk what is.
@@alex_runarinI've never had to ask any men for an ID because I look for my partners at social places like bars, or on dating apps where only adults can be, not on social media platforms that are rampant with teens like a weirdo. Srsly, it's really easy to not "accidentally" be sexual with a minor as long as you avoid spaces that are full of minors. Not to mention it's super obvious when someone is a minor; you can practically smell the insecurity and immaturity coming off them.

The internet will never forget what James Charles did to Ethan who was a vulnerable 14 year old CHILD. It's not drama it's dangerous. James is right he shouldn't be cancelled HE SHOULD BE JAILED.
@@dailyremindertoshutup3670 Ethan was one of the first victims to expose him but he got dogged on and called a liar. That was a while before the other victims spoke up. He never got an apology
It’s honestly so sad what happened to Ethan. Treated as a liar because he was one of the first to come forward. Not to mention one of the youngest. I feel like James goes after these boys who have a little bit of a following so when they try to expose what a creep James is, he can just say their lying to get attention. Ethan was literally ran off social media and treated horribly. No one would ever put themselves through that for followers 🤦♀️
I admit, I hadn’t heard of Ethan‘s story either, but that is very tragic, and he deserves so much better than that. Also, to the original commentor, the Internet forgets all the time. That’s why he has such a huge audience on multiple social media platforms, even though he’s an actual predator. Either that, or I guess they just don’t care since it doesn’t really affect them.
It's really really gross how James Charles sexualizes and borderline harassed men he likes on the internet... no one should be making gross sexual comments to people on public platforms that's really uncomfortable
Reminds me of when one of the teachers in my high school was caught sending creepy messages to sophomore girls and the principal was like "we can't fire him,he's the math teacher, math is too important" and another one of my teachers started dating a student when she was only 17 and he was 26🤮
This whole article really feels like the author doesn't like James Charles and just had to write what she was payed to write but wanted to get in as much subtle "he's still frickin rich, he has not faced real consequences" as she could while still getting it past Charles' pr team
That's exactly how it reads to me. Its killing me that these commentary channels (who I like) are pointing out the glaring inconsistencies without considering it could be on purpose. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but it seems painfully obvious that the author was protesting writing this article in the article. On purpose.
The vibe I get from the article is that the author also doesn't like him. She keeps going back and forth from mocking him to downplaying what he did, to mocking the fact that he's able to just come back. It reads like someone whose boss forced them to write this piece, and is trying to interject with what criticisms they can get away with. I could be TOTALLY off base, but that's how it comes off to me
Right?? I see so many literal children defending this grown man. 🤢 the worst is when people just try and dismiss what he’s done because they don’t bother to look into the allegations for themselves. James admitted to these actions and they still wanna be like “our king is innocent 🙏”. It’s absolutely disgusting.
The main reason James pisses me off is because as a gay man myself, his actions not only harmed his victims, but they also perpetuate the stereotype that gay men are predators. I was assaulted as a child so as a victim myself, I hope he gets locked upon
I think Jame’s brother is paving the way for how we as a society should treat James; cut him off and properly allow him to think about his actions without giving him any platform.
If he can't find a mature gay man for a serious relationship in many different ways, maybe he's the problem here. Especially if the alternative is contacting children.
They went far and wide to find a definition of grooming that they could work with. Grooming doesn't have to end in the SA of the child, it could just make them more susceptible to it. It's still grooming.
I'm a chronically online millennial who engages in regular grass touching for balance. I'm so irritated by these journalists publishing these puff pieces in defense of the trash of the influencer science. It's not hard to find the information on James' behavior at this point. Come ON.
him saying “oh if i go on dating apps, people will screenshot our conversations” and then not elaborating when told that people on instagram can do the same.. that stuck out to me. it sounded like “younger people will keep us a secret if i ask them to” im not sure how else to word this lmao
The sad part to me is he doesn't claim you either unless it benefits him. You have to be a hung 6'2+ masc musc stud to exist to him. I remember being that shallow and immature like a decade ago too....
It’s astounding to me that he keeps “accidentally” hitting up minors. Like James, STOP COLD CONTACTING RANDOM FANS WITH SEXUAL MESSAGES AND THIS WONT EVER HAPPEN. He still does this!
hasn’t James had like multiple redemption arcs already??? i do feel so bad for James though, living in that million dollar mansion, barely any repercussions, oh poor James💔 /s
Literally though, at this point I’m not even surprised whenever another content creator turns out is a groomer like is this an epidemic? Are they spreading like a disease wtf??? Why are there SO MANY?
one more thing that makes this even more frustrating is that as a very well known gay man, he just adds on the stereotype that us queer people are groomers. its just really annoying that now we have someone like james as a representative (not saying he should be, but since hes so famous its almost inevitable that he is one)
what i’ll never understand is that there are so many queer individuals in L.A the state of california literally has more residents than the entire country of canada theres no excuse for preying after children when the adult dating pool is so large james is a criminal
It’s so funny when influencers or celebs describe how awful their life is because they’re cancelled and it’s it’s still wildly more luxurious than the average persons life.
James needs to be in jail, he committed literal crimes. Even if some of them did lie about their age (which I highly doubt) he still shouldn't be messaging fans because that is a huge power imbalance. His behavior shows a clear pattern and you can't justify going after minors. Why does he STILL have a platform?? The man is a predator.
The fact that the article mentioned James saying that his brother hasn't talked to him in 2 years due to what happened doesn't support him and they make it out like the drama ruined his relationships when it just shows that there's truth to the situation because his brother cut him off.
James is guilty, and it’s not up for debate. The man is a grown adult influencer who spoke inappropriately with fans. He did *not* verify ages, because if he did, he would’ve at the very least asked for ID (which a child would not be able to provide). He was in a position of power, and what really solidified everything was that there were MULTIPLE victims.
If you abuse power over others and cause harm, you don’t get to just say “Sowwy, I was just sad and lonely 🥺” and be forgiven. You don’t get to just come back and pretend like nothing happened, and have that power again, because you proved, pretty blatantly, that you could not handle it responsibly. (Or, at least that should be the ideal to strive for. Unfortunately, too many awful people are not stripped if their power/influence, when they really should be.)
I hate how being canceled (as a big RUclipsr) is basically a vacation to them. Not filming or tweeting for a few weeks/months, moping in their million dollar mansions, sounds unbearable /s The victims of these RUclipsrs don't have that luxury; they have to go on knowing that someone who hurt them will still have a loyal fan base regardless of what they've done, that they won't struggle financially or lose sleep by having to step away from the internet. Instead of going to major publishers/podcasts/what have you to beg to get in everyone's good graces, *CHANGE YOUR BEHAVIOR, AND PROVE IT.*
i remember one (1) retweet by James Charles. A dude posted a horny pic with the caption “pov I’m the babysitter”, James retweeted with “pov I’m seven and my parents are out of town for weeks”, and the first guy replied “pov I’m not a babysitter anymore” he was always fucking weird
bro the way he was like “just cause somebody fucks up, their whole life and career is taken away?” like YEAH his *career* was what *gave him the opportunity to do this in the first place* so yeah, *obviously* he shouldn’t have that platform anymore
One of the crazy things to me is that even if his claim that he didn’t know they were 18 was true, that still means he sent unsolicited nudes multiple times and asked for them in return when being told no. like that alone is sexual harassment and (in my opinion) more than grounds enough for being “cancelled”
Two things. Firstly, call me an old fashioned boomer, but how about people don't send unsolicited pics of one's genitalia *ESPECIALLY* when there is even the remotest possibility of the recipient being a minor. Secondly, "They looked 18" is afaik not a defence. At least it isn't here in the UK. I'm amazed Charles hasn't had a word in his shell like from the LAPD.
6:01 his hair looks kind of like a rainforest from above, like the leaves making it look like a plain green color when viewed from like a plane or something 💀
🎉🎉It's not only disheartening but terrifying that big name celebrities and popular, big name content creators like James are being vindicated and kept safe because they make other people money. He's a predator. Point. Blank. Period.
Completely agree, it sucks. I hope there comes a day where it doesn't happen, or at least isn't publically accepted as something that "can't be helped." :/
the whole article is just very back and forth of condemning him but justifying him at the same time, however it eventually leads to the victimization of james and we are encourage to sympathize with him
I just don't understand oversexualizing strangers. He used to just ask for nudes- now he asks for ID and then asks for nudes. Um- there's still something fucked up with the way he treats people like objects only around to please him and do what he wants. I hate that guy.
I honestly think we can’t blame the writer too much in this. It’s obvious that James paid for this entire thing so the author literally could just be doing their job without trying to get fired… but hey that’s just me giving them the benefit of the doubt 🤷♂️ the real problem here (besides James) is Cosmo itself. Why they thought it’d be a good idea (well we all know why) idk but they didn’t think this one through lol
@@alexanderreynolds6018 yeah but we don’t know the living situation of the author or the office situation they’re in. There are a number of reasons for the author to have wanted to write this article like financial reasons (like they need money to get out of a messy situation) pressure from their superiors etc. who knows. This chick could just think James is innocent. However the fact that she mentions how rich he is and his PR team kinda indicates that she’s sorta mocking the fact that he HAD to pay for this article.
i want to believe that people are capable of change but this is a repeated behavior from him so he's just gonna have to either suck up the backlash and keep it pushing, stay out of the public eye and/or off social media, or just change professions entirely. cause you can't complain about being cancelled while you actively have a platform.
It's interesting hearing from people that didn't take this article sarcastically 👀 I read this article with such a different tone than a lot of people. I thought she was making fun of him most of the time. The way she argued "would a cancelled person have a 9 million dollar home and new makeup drops?" Either way, I agree they shouldn't have platformed him in the first place
Its prolly bc their ego is the size of jupiter so they think they can get away with anything. They believe their fanbase will love them no matter what and will always be there for them ( I mean there are fans like that). It could be bc they are just so desperate for more money and recognition that they mightn'd care abt the "hate". This is me just spit ballin tho
they're so entitled they think that they're owed a platform even when people just reasonably don't like the scummy stuff that they've done, and then they guilt trip you for not wanting to support them. like, you should be grateful, because if you weren't famous you would be in jail, not just 'canceled'.
Okay, honestly thank you for saying he doesnt deserve a redemption arc, ive seen too many other lgbtq+ individuals say "its hard to find someone to date as an lgbtq+ person, ofc he was desperate but he doesnt deserve to get hate" like... girl.... no??
it may be hard to date as an lgbtq+, but avoiding dating minors is a **piece** of **cake.** james needs be fucking for real, and his fans need a smack and a long and involved lesson.
69th like 🫶🏽 ps. I literally can't comprehend the fact that he is legally allowed on the internet at this point 😭 also congrats on the annamarie like 🫶🏽
James has such a hard time dating because he wants a straight teenage boy who will "turn" gay for him because James is just soooo special and hot that even straight guys want him. He could easily find a gay man his own age who might want to date him, but he refuses to narrow his dating pool and just tries to force underage straight boys into sexual situations so he can feel like he has control over them.
Will never understand why people commit serious offences and then say stuff like "people should be given a chance to learn from their mistakes and grow" like the vast majority of people don't need to make the mistake of sexting minors to learn that it's wrong, that's usually common sense lol
I love how you're not letting the cosmo writer off the hook. The piece has no integrity and I would not be surprised if it's an advertorial. Edit: 31:27 ooh, I didnt know that, that feels very telling somehow
Tati said all that and the response was, “Girl, aren’t you like, 40?” She’s no Angel either, but the fact that she was trying to alert people to the danger that James was and having it disregarded due to her age is alarming and sad.
There's def valid things to call her out for but it's very telling much of the hate was directed at her and not the 3 men who all have histories of concerning behavior towards kids and/or animals. I wish cancel culture worked because a lot of people would be safer without Jeffrey shane and Charles abusing their platforms to take advantage of others.
The quote that killed me was “it’s so hard to find a famous gay guy celeb that’s between the ages 20-25” He basically said sounded like a teacher that hangs out with their teenage/early 20s students that see outted on the local news when he said that in the article. 💀
I absolutely love the choice of words when it comes to celebrity being trash human being, he's not a pedo just naive, he didn't groom those kid he was talking to his fan and was being a little desperate , he don't harras people he's flirty and quirky, it's not a crime it's called drama, it's not the consequence of his own shitty action it's cancel culture
Ummmmmm I'm Generation X. 54 years old! I know what he did, I'm aware! I think he's dangerous, stay away from my kids James. You would not want to meet me in an alley after meeting or texting with my kids, James.
I really wish kids were socialized from a young age to be immediately weirded out by any celebrity/influencer tries to private message them. Add it to the 'Stranger Danger' curriculum.
32:53 you hit the nail on the head. How extremely tone deaf of him to complain about taking time off from his luxurious career, that *he* caused damage to, to reflect on himself. Meanwhile, I have friends who hold down two to three jobs and never take vacations so they can just get by. Thank you for taking the time to really dissect that line, because that in particular made me soooo irritated.
Even if he didn’t mean to message minors, it was still absolutely some form of grooming, he was going for fans, people that would be excited to have him talk to them, to get sexual favours from them
I mean, dating is actually difficult for a lot of people, but it’s certainly not an excuse to commit literal CRIMES wtf. Most romantically unsuccessful people don’t resort to harassing children, they find a hobby, learn to deal with it, or go to therapy :/
I'm glad someone said this. An f'er like EDP445 can get caught once looking for a "cupcake" and is run off the internet, but James Charles just keeps movin along, even being "redeemed." Smh.

Everything is clear now so this should not be reffered to as drama anymore this is ridiculous and minimizing what he did.

James needs to be in jail, he committed literal crimes.
I wish cancel culture worked because a lot of people would be safer without Jeffrey shane and Charles abusing their platforms to take advantage of others.
The quote that killed me was “it’s so hard to find a famous gay guy celeb that’s between the ages 20-25”
He basically said sounded like a teacher that hangs out with their teenage/early 20s students that see outted on the local news when he said that in the article.
Why are literal crimes considered mistakes or cancellable sins when he has had like no repercussions?
32:53 you hit the nail on the head. How extremely tone deaf of him to complain about taking time off from his luxurious career, that *he* caused damage to, to reflect on himself. Meanwhile, I have friends who hold down two to three jobs and never take vacations so they can just get by. Thank you for taking the time to really dissect that line, because that in particular made me soooo irritated.
The only person I've ever seen canceled is MGK when he tried to step up to Eminem. Dude changed entire music genres after that.
Is that why he’s a rockstar now? 😂😂😂😂
And the Chicks in the early 00s for calling Bush out (but they're finally back now so that's a good thing!)
there's nothing LESS relatable than putting your Oreos in aesthetically pleasing glass jars on your marble countertops.
james charles is the topic of discussion today frr😭
Even if he didn’t mean to message minors, it was still absolutely some form of grooming, he was going for fans, people that would be excited to have him talk to them, to get sexual favours from them
the dating scene is only hard if you prey after children JAMES 💀💀💀
I mean, dating is actually difficult for a lot of people, but it’s certainly not an excuse to commit literal CRIMES wtf. Most romantically unsuccessful people don’t resort to harassing children, they find a hobby, learn to deal with it, or go to therapy :/
James’s “im desperate” walked so Colleen’s “im not a groomer just a loser” could run
I wonder what the next catchphrase will be
"I did an oopsie"
I'm glad someone said this. An f'er like EDP445 can get caught once looking for a "cupcake" and is run off the internet, but James Charles just keeps movin along, even being "redeemed." Smh.
39:54 is the same energy as someone murdering someone and then saying “hey guys instead of arresting me you should let me grow and learn while keeping my job”
That last part is literally what the cops do sometimes 😭
@@alim.9801 no cuz facts they be on something
He needs to be stripped of all his social media platforms and access to these young fans. Also...was he ever ACTUALLY cancelled?? He never faced any actual consequences or actions. Uggh can't stand him.
Ikr? He legit says that he’s still grooming in the same article.
@@Dave102693 for real. Still doing the same behaviors, on the same platforms, prob in the same circles of boys smh
B-but, his apology video was the least liked RUclips video that week 🥺 hasn't he suffered enough? /s
These super wealthy celebs always get off scott-free and it sucks
@@jordy_muhnordy Can you even imagine the anguish he's been through, the poor guy 😭 LMAO I agree, I totally despise these super-rich, out of touch, 'super influencers'. Uggh
@@mscardina poor Shane Dawson bought a second home in the midst of his cancellation, a punishment worse than death I reckon 😭
I feel so terrible for the young men he went after. Having someone older than you show interest might seem super flattering when you’re that age but it’s a massive red flag. The fact of the matter is that no matter how mature you might be as a teen the adult hitting on you is super immature for his.
