Very Cool. However, in USA, adding that "Police" symbol would probably get you nailed for some kind of Law against Impersonating Law Enforcement. I hope it works "long term"... very creative btw! Hopefully no one on a bike drops it due to the "spray". It is a tricky thing... maybe just flashing lights? And have the spray shoot up, instead of "at"?
I understand what you mean indeed... And no one has been injured so far so that's good!🙌And the counter currently stands at 284 cars passed, of which 78 cars were driving 15 km/h faster than the legal speed limit🤓 And are your rules that strict?😮
@@ConceptCraftedCreations Enforcement varies. It is usually higher around school zones. 15 kmh is roughly 9.3 miles per hour over the speed limit, but if someone is in 15 mph zone and going say 25 to 30, it would likely get them a stop for traffic violation. We have signs that blink with your current speed if you exceed mildly, and if you exceed by a lot it blinks a lot with blue light. Usually the car speeding in front of me will finally slow down when that happens. Idea: Consider asking for "Rumble Strips"... in both directions around your area. These are very minimal bumps that cause the car to make a rumbling noise as they pass over them. It won't affect the car adversely, and it will almost definitely will cause them to slow down.
I was thinking the same thing about the police sign. Some popo would definitely want to cause trouble over that. Could make it say, "speed patrol" or neighborhood patrol or something like that though.
Cops here regularly drive above that here. The cops will say they can't catch people speeding unless they are also speeding. So this would definitely get set off on a cop then that's when the police troubles begin and end with the impersonating bit.@@ConceptCraftedCreations

Not sure what country you are in, but in the USA even though it is a great idea and seems to work very well, it would be breaking many laws, being on the edge of the road DOT would have a problem with that and shooting paint at a moving car/truck " even if they are speeding would not go over well, could cause a wreck. @@roboteen My point (about criminal damage, actually in another thread here) was that stickers and chalk on glass do _not_ damage property but are still categorised as damage in the UK. I love the concept , i think more ways to highlight speed and safety to drivers should be welcomed. The only objection is any method that can cause shock or damage to a driver while driving..and blowing paint at their vehicle deffo isnt advisable 😂 Love the idea and work you did.
How legal is painting other peoples cars where you are? Genuinely curious. This kind of thing is a criminal offense and at the multiples you’re doing it would probably mean jail time.
Does it look like it actually gets the paint onto the car? Seems like it fires far too soon and too small of a cloud gets produced to hit anything.... Probably mostly mists the robot!
@@SusDoctor I would rather he not break laws in the first place in order to get cars to slow down. Shooting paint balls at cars is vandalism and has similar consequences to throwing rocks at cars. He needs to find a better way to deal with this issue. Maybe he can convince someone to have speed humps installed. Also, people tend to ignore those moveable children at play signs because the majority of people leave them out 24/7 instead of only having them out when children are playing.
my man, I have been thinking about this problem for a while and had built a radar system for my street , I went to talk to the cops before installing it and they dissuaded me because people would damage my property. my goal was to capture picture and post them online to shame the drivers and make the design open source once I worked out the kinks so that everyone can install them . the city installed one right in front of my house some years later. I'm gonna reassemble it and install. I really love what you did. made my day !!!!!
For sure. Kids with a baseball bat, or adult with a gun! It wouldn't even be legal to put it up anyway. You can't just put whatever you want on the side of the road, especially if it's shooting stuff at cars!
in the states this breaks several laws, including impersonating police. Not to mention assault. I find it hilarious he "doesnt plan to pay for damages", just new paint jobs lol You are not the law, you do not have a right to single handedly decide and enact consequences. All that being said, pull that stuff in the US and the first car you splattered would have smashed this thing to bits and probably kicked your ass when you opened your mouth about it lol If it were up to citizens to enact consequences whenever we felt like it, and you splattered my car. . . I'd probably burn your house to the ground. Then you wouldnt have to worry about the speed of cars in the neighborhood. So, it's a good thing we have laws and official people to uphold them. . . huh?
Great idea & concept, but it interferes with complicated governments things and may lead to problems I swear building own Intel CPU is easier than to understand how governments work
Another option for dispensing/metering the paint is what is known as a "peristaltic pump". Also instead of acrylic paint, you could use Tempra Paint...pretty much the same consistency as acrylic paint but easy water cleanup even after the paint has dried. Tempra paint is also cheaper than acrylic paint!!!
Great idea, but you should use paintballs. The shell is made of gelatin and filled with food grade water soluble jelly. The shot and the impact is more likely to be impressing and it is way cheaper than the paint.
Well the concept is brilliant in it's design/looks. Although not acceptable from the safety point of view and possible mistakes. All because of the gun of course :) For all the bad things that can go wrong that I am aware of now: 1. Paint is fired, poor driver panics and runs over a mother, her four children and ends up crashing into your house, causing a fire and a gas leak, then everything blows up into inferno;) 2. Same as above, but driver hit's a car that was driving in opposite direction. 3. Misfire: robot spots a speeding car BUT a car from opposite direction also passes and is hit with paint instead of the speeding car. 4. Same as above, but the paint hits pedestrian or bicycler. 5. Paint hits motorcycle driver on his visor - driver can't see the road, panics and crashes into a tree. But, I really like the look of it:) PS Oh and additional flaw of this construction: you are using two detectors, horizontal to road - what will happen if there will be two cars in opposing directions? Wouldn't it create a false read of a speeding car?
Thanks for the feedback👌And the gun part can always be turned of of course! And i get what you mean about the sensor readings but the sensors measure from left to right (or right to left depending from which way you're looking at it) so they only detect traffic that is going towards Jake👍

It always baffels me how many people just can't wrap their head around the idea that speed limits and safe distance are rooted in physical boundries and not symptoms of our oppression
It’s surprising how many people don't realize that speed limits and safe distances are based on physical realities, not just arbitrary rules. They’re essential for safety, rooted in physics and human reaction times, rather than attempts to control us.

Does nothing for the locals, but for visitors it can slow them down a bit.cool idea, although I would go with taking pictures and recording the speed and time/date, rather than squirting paint. If you could do auto numberplate recognition it would be a public service, reather than a potential cause of issues. imagin an ambulance going to an emergency and getting sprayed with paint. not ideal. But a local website reporting vehicles travelling mor than 20km/hr over the speed limit would give material to report to authorities, and they could do "official" speed trap to encourage those people to drive more safely and within the speed limit.

Thanks👌Appreciate it! And the gears do not wear as they are used here because they are hardly loaded. The groove on the other hand will indeed wear more. Just to be sure, I put a little Vaseline on it, which will hopefully reduce it🤓
This is epic, but just so that you're aware, acrylic paint is actually a complete nightmare to get off of things. Using water alone definitely won't get it off once it dries, and it typically requires acetone or various paint strippers to remove, which would obviously cause damage to the car's paint job. There are definitely a lot of water-based craft paints out there that are easy to remove, but acrylic isn't one of them. Edit: I'm speaking from years of experience as an artist. After all, artists tend to select mediums that are permanent. Still love the concept, though!
Considering the road hazards if it got on the windshield, or if it caused a car to dodge what looks like an airgun/pellet gun/airsoft gun/paintball gun, good luck with the lawsuits and/or jail time if you actually intend to leave that up.
Great idea, even if you don’t raise enough interest for a give away, I wouldn’t mind to see if he could be purchased to be employed at my local school District in the US… Jake would make a great school zone officer here and an amazing aid to motivate our students in the many applications of science and technology. Also, adding to some of the other comments, the gun would be a little bit too much, I would hate to see Jake taken in handcuffs for assault, or bringing him batteries to our local county jail😋😋😋, but a camera to take plates numbers would really make him the perfect speeding officer here in Seattle. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and vision with the videos, it is really refreshing and help us keep our minds busy and away from the depressing and violent stuff for a bit, keeping us focused on constructive ideas instead of destructive ones.
I have a suspicion that a lot of contention around this sort of issue stems from a disagreement about the major purposes of what is being driven on. Is it a road or a street? Is it's purpose primarily to transport the people driving on it from some far off point A to some far off point B and people just happen to live next to it (in which case the drivers are using it correctly and the home owners should just "figure out how to live there safely")? Or is it primarily there to serve the home owners (in which case the owners expecting other people to drive slowly is correct)? Clearly, there are example of both, and for a lot of them it's clear to everyone which they are, but some cases are a lot less clear and thus as lot more contentious. Likely the biggest issues crop up when the answer to that question changes; it used to be a street, but changes somewhere else turned it into a road, or where new houses are built on a pre-existing road and the new owners decide that it now needs to become a side street. A more significant example of this conflict is where I've seen some transportation engineering/civil planning videos commenting on all the problems that pop up in small towns who's main street is also a highway and various things that can be done be done to make the people treat it like a side street and not as a highway. The problem is that in a lot of cases the strip of pavement is primarily valuable as a highway. If the town vanished, a lot of the people on the highway would never even notice. But if the highway vanished (or was re-routed because the drivers get tired of having to drive on a side street) the town would promptly die.

That is at least a misdemeanor charge to throw anything at a passing car. You are committing a crime.
And no one has been injured so far so that's good!🙌And the counter currently stands at 284 cars passed, of which 78 cars were driving 15 km/h faster than the legal speed limit🤓
And are your rules that strict?😮
It's a concept creation, he's not going to mass market with this...

@@battleframestudios8989 I'm no expert, but I think it has to do with the fact that the light has to go through the pipe wall twice. Through the front and the back. When filled with water, the whole pipe acts as a solid lens so it only refracts once, possibly?

@xxwookey ikr, sadly we can’t damage people’s property whenever we want
@@roboteen My point (about criminal damage, actually in another thread here) was that stickers and chalk on glass do _not_ damage property but are still categorised as damage in the UK. I think it makes more sense to categorise damage as actual damage, as they do in Russia for example: there is even a (small) value written into the law there.
Would be great if it just sprayed water 💧 if it sprayed paint on my ride. Jake would be my new target practice with empty GLASS bottles 😂😂

How legal is painting other peoples cars where you are? Genuinely curious. This kind of thing is a criminal offense and at the multiples you’re doing it would probably mean jail time.
Yup, and there's distracting traffic, must be a law against that. Couple of planning regulation violations there too, I reckon? 🙂
Does it look like it actually gets the paint onto the car? Seems like it fires far too soon and too small of a cloud gets produced to hit anything.... Probably mostly mists the robot!
It's definitely vandalism. There's also liability if an accident occurs because of this.
Would you guys rather a kid get hit or a small dap of paint on your car?
@@SusDoctor I would rather he not break laws in the first place in order to get cars to slow down. Shooting paint balls at cars is vandalism and has similar consequences to throwing rocks at cars. He needs to find a better way to deal with this issue. Maybe he can convince someone to have speed humps installed. Also, people tend to ignore those moveable children at play signs because the majority of people leave them out 24/7 instead of only having them out when children are playing.
That weekend tinker took off! I like it! Have you thought about having it at an event (no squirting, though) or someplace where people get in lines?

my man, I have been thinking about this problem for a while and had built a radar system for my street , I went to talk to the cops before installing it and they dissuaded me because people would damage my property. my goal was to capture picture and post them online to shame the drivers and make the design open source once I worked out the kinks so that everyone can install them . the city installed one right in front of my house some years later. I'm gonna reassemble it and install. I really love what you did. made my day !!!!!

Depends on the area. But I think he's novel enough they'd actually like him.
Soccer moms on the other hand.
For sure. Kids with a baseball bat, or adult with a gun! It wouldn't even be legal to put it up anyway. You can't just put whatever you want on the side of the road, especially if it's shooting stuff at cars!
in the states this breaks several laws, including impersonating police. Not to mention assault. I find it hilarious he "doesnt plan to pay for damages", just new paint jobs lol
You are not the law, you do not have a right to single handedly decide and enact consequences.
All that being said, pull that stuff in the US and the first car you splattered would have smashed this thing to bits and probably kicked your ass when you opened your mouth about it lol
If it were up to citizens to enact consequences whenever we felt like it, and you splattered my car. . . I'd probably burn your house to the ground. Then you wouldnt have to worry about the speed of cars in the neighborhood.
So, it's a good thing we have laws and official people to uphold them. . . huh?

@@ConceptCraftedCreations Right!!!
Well the concept is brilliant in it's design/looks.
Although not acceptable from the safety point of view and possible mistakes.
All because of the gun of course :)
For all the bad things that can go wrong that I am aware of now:
1. Paint is fired, poor driver panics and runs over a mother, her four children and ends up crashing into your house, causing a fire and a gas leak, then everything blows up into inferno;)
But, I really like the look of it:)
PS
Oh and additional flaw of this construction:
you are using two detectors, horizontal to road - what will happen if there will be two cars in opposing directions?
Wouldn't it create a false read of a speeding car?
Thanks for the feedback👌And the gun part can always be turned of of course!
And i get what you mean about the sensor readings but the sensors measure from left to right (or right to left depending from which way you're looking at it) so they only detect traffic that is going towards Jake👍

It always baffels me how many people just can't wrap their head around the idea that speed limits and safe distance are rooted in physical boundries and not symptoms of our oppression
Knowing that most people only care about gas prices, one can usually predict which monarch is going to win the election.
It’s surprising how many people don't realize that speed limits and safe distances are based on physical realities, not just arbitrary rules. They’re essential for safety, rooted in physics and human reaction times, rather than attempts to control us.

on a road I travel on occasionally someone has a manakin dressed with moterbike helmet and hi-vis clothing looking like it is aiming a speed gun at the road.
Thanks for your feedback👌

Great build and fun concept! Since the gears are 3D printed, do you generally find them long lasting given the amount of movements involved? Also the clever shaft for thr rotating weapon is guided by a scree in the groove, so would it wear out or make rhe groove too big over time?
Keep up the good work and thanks🎉

I appreciate your detailed feedback👌

That is at least a misdemeanor charge to throw anything at a passing car. You are committing a crime. If you want to slow down cars, you need to work with the city to put speed bumps or change the road design. This is not safe and may cause accidents, which will defeat your purpose. Cute as it may look, causing accidents by throwing things at passing cars is a crime, and you need to stop it.
Before getting all angry about i want you to think again.. What happens when you stick to the speed limit?
