What do you think about a giveaway?😎
Because Jet Jake won't stay in my street forever and because it would be a shame if he ends up in the corner of my shed and then just collects dust, I thought it might be a nice idea to give away Jet Jake, but I'm just curious how much interest there is in this?
(The gun part can and will of course be turned off in that case🤓)
Let me know and if there's enough interest i will update this pinned content on how to participate and have a chance to be able to see Officer Jet Jake in action in your street!

Get the Police to charge the owner of the bot with impersonation! And then shooting things at vehicles is unacceptable. Here in the USA no one may do that for any reason. The only time something is shot at a vehicle is when the Police shoot a sticky GPS tracker onto a vehicle that is trying to flee. Honestly shooting things at vehicles can cause accidents and is also vandalism if it leaves ANY mark on the vehicle of any kind. Really it reminds me of a thing that some people do and that is throwing cheese at vehicles. It could damage the paint or cause an accident. It is another one of the stupid things people do on TikTok. While TikTok is not all bad it does cause certain unsafe and illegal behaviors.

    • @TheFatVeganOne
      @TheFatVeganOne 3 месяца назад +21

TBF, the easiest way to solve the speed problem is to add big planters, or some kind of restriction that makes people feel like the road narrows. This is why a lot of countries use tree canopies, big planters, bits of pavement that jut out making it easier to cross for pedestrians, but also restrict the road, making people slow down because of the restriction, without the need for electricity etc.
Not just bikes has a lot of good videos on this.

      @marcfruchtman9473 3 месяца назад +6

@@ConceptCraftedCreations Enforcement varies. It is usually higher around school zones. 15 kmh is roughly 9.3 miles per hour over the speed limit, but if someone is in 15 mph zone and going say 25 to 30, it would likely get them a stop for traffic violation. We have signs that blink with your current speed if you exceed mildly, and if you exceed by a lot it blinks a lot with blue light. Usually the car speeding in front of me will finally slow down when that happens. Idea: Consider asking for "Rumble Strips"... in both directions around your area. These are very minimal bumps that cause the car to make a rumbling noise as they pass over them. It won't affect the car adversely, and it will almost definitely will cause them to slow down.

Saw some comments about this but not enough talking about safety. I'm in the USA and this would be dangerous and illegal for a few good reasons.
    1. As other have mentioned when you spray paint at someone's car it has the potential to cause damage, even if unintentional. It could also hit a pedestrian or motorcyclist.
    2. Even if they are going over the speed limit, you are not law enforcement, and are not allowed to make up your own punishments then enforce them onto people who you decide are breaking the law.
    3. This poses a major accident risk in several ways. It could distract drivers who think it's cool, or don't know what it is causing an accident. It could reduce visibility for drivers or motorcycles who get hit by the paint and cause an accident. Drivers might see the rotating barrels and think the weapon is real, then swerve and cause an accident.
    4. It could be damaged by the weather, or a passing driver and parts could fly into the road damaging people's vehicles or causing an accident.
Legally you would be responsible for any damage, accident, or death that results from this. Also I do not think you want to have to try and sleep at night knowing that you are directly responsible for someone's death even accidentally.
I also dislike people who drive dangerously, and this is a fun video, but there is a reason that there are long complicated process for getting road signs/signals approved for use.

After it happening to one of my friends twice his dad got pissed off and took a 12ft piece of square steel tube, buried and made a thick cement base 5ft wide and filled the tube with concrete too. Then he made a veneer and glued it on so it looked like a normal wood post for a mailbox.
Well a week later we heard a loud bank and low and behold the front end of that truck was curled around that mailbox.😂

Just imagine a motorcyclist with their helmet visor open and getting paint sprayed into their eyes. Just absolutely irresponsible!
You're also not the one to uphold traffic law, that's the job of police officers and they'll handle speeding infractions. And on a personal level, if you sprayed paint at my car, I'd press charges and have you pay for cleanup and any damage.

i think it'd be a good idea to hold a raffle to decide who gets jake, it's a very cool concept and honestly it'd be great if law enforcement actually adopted the idea, perhaps made their own version which is more carefully compliant to the local laws and would be able to help intelligently enforce speed in "problem areas" (ideally ones where theft isn't too big an issue either, depending on how securely the bot would be mounted) but yeah, maybe adjust it to spray water, perhaps with an easily washable blue dye in it? would probably be pretty effective and i mean, c'mon, it doesn't get much more harmless of a warning than a squirtgun, y'know? if people were to try to sue or something for it (i live in US) then no judge or jury would ever take it seriously so even if someone tried it'd get dismissed immediately lol

A fantasy idea I've had is a setup where ultrasonic (highly directional) transducers would aim a 'tire screetch' sound at the speeding car's front window.
This would be along with a laser projection along the car's immediate front road surface to 'slow down'.
If it were accepted, such a projector could indicate if pedestrians are ahead, and flash the speed limit, esp. good when speeds change at different times of the day.

Well the concept is brilliant in it's design/looks.
Although not acceptable from the safety point of view and possible mistakes.
All because of the gun of course :)
For all the bad things that can go wrong that I am aware of now:
    1. Paint is fired, poor driver panics and runs over a mother, her four children and ends up crashing into your house, causing a fire and a gas leak, then everything blows up into inferno;)
    2. Same as above, but driver hit's a car that was driving in opposite direction.
    3. Misfire: robot spots a speeding car BUT a car from opposite direction also passes and is hit with paint instead of the speeding car.
    4. Same as above, but the paint hits pedestrian or bicycler.
    5. Paint hits motorcycle driver on his visor - driver can't see the road, panics and crashes into a tree.
But, I really like the look of it:)
    PS
Oh and additional flaw of this construction:
you are using two detectors, horizontal to road - what will happen if there will be two cars in opposing directions?
Wouldn't it create a false read of a speeding car?

Something I've been contemplating for years, but nowhere near such a cool design ;) Also I think even I would slow down if I knew there were paint to be sprayed at my car =) At least if it wasn't so easy to get rid of. I think it should be considered for cross-walks where cars don't stop to let people over, as well. I don't live in a place where I could set it up, but the give-away is a good idea, and it could be on a schedule - one person keeps it for 2 month and then pass it on to someone else (hopefully before it gets destroyed or confiscated by the authorities).

on a road I travel on occasionally someone has a manakin dressed with moterbike helmet and hi-vis clothing looking like it is aiming a speed gun at the road. Does nothing for the locals, but for visitors it can slow them down a bit.cool idea, although I would go with taking pictures and recording the speed and time/date, rather than squirting paint. If you could do auto numberplate recognition it would be a public service, reather than a potential cause of issues. imagin an ambulance going to an emergency and getting sprayed with paint. not ideal. But a local website reporting vehicles travelling mor than 20km/hr over the speed limit would give material to report to authorities, and they could do "official" speed trap to encourage those people to drive more safely and within the speed limit.

    That is one brilliant build!
I can imagine that printing out all those parts, especially the body parts, had to take weeks!
    Nicely done!
There is one thing, however, that is a VERY BAD IDEA! That is, the PAINT spray!
It doesn't matter if it will wash off with water, that's not the issue.
The issue is that it could easily spray right onto a driver (like that motorcycle driver) or through the window of a car, blind the driver as it gets into the eyes and causes an accident!
Guess who gets charged, sued and pays for all damages! GUESS DAMMIT! LOL
    ✨😅😂🤣😁✨
Two suggestions there. First, get rid of the paint. If you MUST spray something, just use water or a smoke generator to produce light smoke.
But the best thing is to add a "flash unit" like on a camera.
When someone is speeding, just flash the light to make them think that they and the car's tag are being photographed! That will make most people slow down!
How do I know this, you may ask? Around where I am, they have installed these large speed monitor "signs." If you are near or over the speed, it flashes your actual speed at you.
When you are over the posted speed, they flash bright white LEDs, like the flash on a camera.
People do think that their picture has been taken and immediately slow down.
    I've seen it personally.
Also, those behind the speeding car, also see the "photo flash" (sure, it's fake) and THEY TOO slow down.
The bright white "flash" would be the easiest to add to this project as you already are using Arduino and adding this would be so simple.
But yeah, that paint thing... I don't know about where you are, but HERE, that would be illegal anyway.
But the idea of a cute robot is awesome.
As a designer of electronic gadgets, I really appreciate the word you've put in. You are clearly very creative and have the ability to think outside the box!

I have a suspicion that a lot of contention around this sort of issue stems from a disagreement about the major purposes of what is being driven on. Is it a road or a street? Is it's purpose primarily to transport the people driving on it from some far off point A to some far off point B and people just happen to live next to it (in which case the drivers are using it correctly and the home owners should just "figure out how to live there safely")? Or is it primarily there to serve the home owners (in which case the owners expecting other people to drive slowly is correct)? Clearly, there are example of both, and for a lot of them it's clear to everyone which they are, but some cases are a lot less clear and thus as lot more contentious. Likely the biggest issues crop up when the answer to that question changes; it used to be a street, but changes somewhere else turned it into a road, or where new houses are built on a pre-existing road and the new owners decide that it now needs to become a side street.
A more significant example of this conflict is where I've seen some transportation engineering/civil planning videos commenting on all the problems that pop up in small towns who's main street is also a highway and various things that can be done be done to make the people treat it like a side street and not as a highway. The problem is that in a lot of cases the strip of pavement is primarily valuable as a highway. If the town vanished, a lot of the people on the highway would never even notice. But if the highway vanished (or was re-routed because the drivers get tired of having to drive on a side street) the town would promptly die.

Also, adding to some of the other comments, the gun would be a little bit too much, I would hate to see Jake taken in handcuffs for assault, or bringing him batteries to our local county jail😋😋😋, but a camera to take plates numbers would really make him the perfect speeding officer here in Seattle.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and vision with the videos, it is really refreshing and help us keep our minds busy and away from the depressing and violent stuff for a bit, keeping us focused on constructive ideas instead of destructive ones.

The best deterrent I've seen to slow down speeders is a large speed bump or two. You'll likely need to get it approved by your local government as they'll need to put up signage on either side warning drivers of the speed bump. People learn very quickly how much damage a well constructed speed bump can cause to their car if they refuse to slow down.

FYI, acrylic paint is water based, but once dried, it does NOT readily clean off with just being made wet again or even just rain, it is actually classified as 'water resistant' once dried..
Sucks to be a speeder then! (but don't get sued)

    • @xxwookey
      @xxwookey 3 месяца назад +1

Painting speeder's cars with stuff that's hard to get off seems very fair (unfortunately I don't think this robot has enough range in practice). StopXam does a great job with their big stickers in Russia which produces the same effect (a hard-to-remove reminder to behave better). Unfortunately a lot of places will side with the speeders over this and call it 'criminal damage' (the UK declares even chalk 'paint' criminal damage, for example, which greatly restricts the populace from actions that might improve behaviour/reduce danger overall, so we can't do the stopXam sticker thing here in the UK).

@ConceptCraftedCreations in the Australian country the white post used to be made of timber, but people would just run them down for fun and then the council would put painted railway iron in occasionally with the normal reflector of it. After many cars were wrecked then someone died they replaced them with fibreglass ones with a rubber base so they would bounce back up. And none of them told people off or shot paint at them...😆👍🏻 Love your technical skills and would love to see police versions at school zones with electric water pistols 🔫😉
