    Ratchets are noisy. Have you considered a sprag clutch? They make them in very convenient ball-bearing style sizes and packages.

    The good news is you don't ever have to worry about branches or the trunk growing to be longer and making your cables not long enough. Trees don't grow up from the ground, and branches don't grow out from the trunk. Trees grow from the many tips of branches, and from the top of the trunk. They grow outwards by adding new layers of wood beneath the bark. So if you place an anchor of some sort in a branch/trunk, the tree will gradually grow around that anchor, but the anchor will never move on the tree.

    the ratchet mechanism would mean that you are only collecting energy when it moves one way. It works, but I would have probably fixed the reciprocating issue with a bridge rectifier on the output. Though this might be better, as it lets you reach higher velocity and likely convert the energy more efficiently. SO I don't know which would have better output.

    Have a look at a one way bearing. It would simplify the ratchet system and make it 100% print in place.

    Couple ideas, one if you can do this strategically where you are simultaneously bending, or training, the tree limbs to shape the tree in an efficient manner to further catch wind, that could be helpful over time; and two, if you could connect a mini generator to the blue ratchet part, you can capture even more energy.

    if you made the ice chamber conductive, but then isolated that area, you could discharge a capacitor through it to flash melt only the outside ice. This would give you an infinite hold time and very short lock time. It would be difficult to do all of that and ALSO have a short freeze time though. There aren't many materials that conduct heat well, but don't conduct electricity. Looking at the list of available materials that fit the bill, stuff like Boron Nitride and Beryllium Oxide...probably not in your budget range, but that would be a really cool setup. Perhaps a thin teflon coating would work? or a layer of kapton tape?

    This is such an excellent idea! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm curious about using a gravity battery for the energy storage. I would think that less energy would be lost to friction vs a flywheel.

    This is a fun idea. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, but similar to the branch growth issue, if a band is placed around a tree and the tree keeps growing, the band can cut through the bark all the way around, cutting off the supply channels and killing the tree. For this reason, it's important not to leave things tied around trees for extended periods. This can also kill distinct branches and should be considered for all attachment methods.

    Very good ideas. Consider mounting this to vertical poles with sails or pedal at the ends, each attached to its own drive cable. The poles must be flexible like pole vaulting poles, or stiff poles with tight spring coils at the optimal flex points. The sails or pedals can be designed to have optimal wind resistance, and the length can vary according to wind conditions in different areas. In this ways you wouldn't be dependent on the location of trees, and it could be mounted in a city or urban environment. Even on top of high-rise buildings. Good luck. Love your approach ❤

    You should have it store power in a spring with a clutch that allows it to spin when released. So it stores up power in the heavy spring by way of your ratchet system. Then it can be released spinning the fly wheel. Maybe a gear box that can switch once the spring is released that allows that ratchet system to put energy into the system at a constant rate to prolong the rotation of the fly wheel. Or maybe a gravity storage system might be easier. Make your ratchet system lift a heavy load that us attached to a gear box with the fly wheel. Once released it can give you constant power for the duration of the falling weight.

    Branches move with different speed. If you put all ratchets to one shaft only the fastest one will be able to output the power. All other would spin slower. To harnest power from all of them you need to add some mechanism to combine power of two schafts into one, like differential drive in car.

    I just wonder where you got that numbers. If I see correctly you use 8 pieces of 36mm bore cylinder aprox 25cm long. So you got aproximately 10kg of force on each cylinder or total 80kg of force. So you have aproximate 800 N force over 0.25 meter. That give storage capacity of 200 Joules. And you claim that you got 628J electric power from 200J available storage space? Or I miss something.

    My idea for consistent power output is to work the system like a grandfather clock. The power from the branches winds up a counterweight which is consistently pulling across a gear set which is driving the generator. Wintergarten had to solve a similar problem with consistent power output

    This is very interesting. I have thought about similar ideas to make a device that tree cutters could shoot to the top of trees that are to be cut down, such that a falling tree could be used to generate electricity from the potential stored in a large tree to be felled. For that matter store the energy of large branches as they fall after being cut.

Lekker bezig in ieder geval!

    What about also using the "return" motion of the branch to produce power? Use another ratchet mechanism in the other direction on another shaft, then mesh it with the primary shaft using regular gears so it will keep spinning in the same direction. Another way would be to mount it on the same shaft and using a planetary gears inverter in order to reverse the movement of the "return stroke". The down side of both solutions would be the increased friction due to extra gears, but maybe using movements in both direction can compensate, and even overpower it...?

  • @sanathacharya616
    @sanathacharya616 День назад

    Okey lets straightaway get to my observation 1. Right now for a single branch movement the energy is collected only in one direction, it would be effecient to collect energy using the motion of branches from both the side 2. if you have seen in the bicycle how free the back tire rotates doesn't get effected by the backword peddling in the same way imagine the tire as the flywheel where all the branches are exerting forces on the flywheel which is very freely rotating using baring. You are really out of the box thinker, were unique way to generate electricity KEEP IT UP

  • @secondengineer9814
    @secondengineer9814 День назад

    One quick thought on the ratchet mechanism, I feel like only harvesting energy when the branch moves in a single direction might be a bad idea, as it prevents the kind of "resonance" that might lead to more motion? Just a thought.
